Curse and Whisper is the second book in the Nightwalker series.
When Tizzy stepped outside the Suradian gates with Aleth that fateful day, she had no idea the terrible secrets she would uncover about herself, or the part she was to play in the Convent’s shadowy games.
Now Tizzy has found herself torn. When she reunites with Aleth, everything finally seems right… but she soon learns he’s not who he seems. Are their goals for survival just too different?
Meanwhile, the kingdoms of the Mirivin Mainland are advancing their political agendas. If Queen Allanis doesn’t keep up, House Hallenar and the town of Suradia will be swallowed up by a nefarious plot. But whose plot is it, exactly? And can she really trust her closest allies?
Holy rollercoasters! AJ somehow makes this fantasy world even better!
I loved book 1, Wish & Mercy, and couldn’t wait to start book 2. I joked in my W&M review about how many characters there are so I had a good laugh about halfway through this when I realized how many more there was to follow along with.
Everything I loved about book 1 only got better with book 2. I found myself losing chunks of time in my day (night, let’s be honest) because I was so drawn in with this story. Although it’s hard to choose from everyone in there, I really think Allanis’ character development has been my favorite to watch evolve. There’s still so much going on with everyone else too and I’m even begrudgingly liking some characters that I decidedly did not like in the last book.
As this series is not complete, there are still unanswered questions and I cannot wait to get my hands on book 3. I would absolutely recommend this series.
“Tizzy was going to leave her mark on the world, one way or another.”
Curse & Whisper is book 2 in the Nightwalker series. You need to read the first book to understand what is going on. This book deals with taboo topics; please read the trigger warnings.
I’m still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster that this series has brought me on. I read this book in under 24 hours, and I couldn’t believe the ending. I hope that there will be more books in this series.
This book continues to reveal the Hallenar’s secrets from Book 1, Wish & Mercy. Just when you think you know what’s going on, more secrets get revealed, and you start questioning motives. As you learn more about the siblings, you try to piece together how other characters are involved and what “powers” they have.
The whiplash this book caused was immaculate. The love, the affairs, the secrets, and the betrayal. It was all *chef’s kiss*. I felt myself caring for all the characters, even Rhett, by the end of the book. Some things the characters had coming, and some were a series of unfortunate events.
None of it mattered in the last chapter; the pain of saying goodbye to what felt like your friends was tough. Especially when there are still questions that need to be answered. I do have a few theories as to what might happen, and I’m excited to see if I'm right.
Curse & Whisper continues to follow the Hellenar family. They are running out of time and must decide whether to protect themselves or their family. With secrets coming to the surface, will they be torn apart or come together and fight the storm; or will they run out of time?
Favorite Quotes: “I have to see something bright in the bleakness ahead, or I’ll have nothing.”
“You’re perfect.” “Why would you say that?” “Because someone should.”
“He needed this, needed something. He needed her.”
“I would love to run from it all with you, but for now, I’m going to use what I am to fight for us.”

This is the second book in the Nightwalker series. You should definitely read the first, Wish & Mercy before you dive into Curse and Whisper. The series revolves around a group of very different siblings and Curse & Whisper continues their story. While we are initially introduce to the Hallenar siblings in Wish & Mercy, we see them really start to develop in this book.
I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series. As with most fantasy stories, it takes a good deal of world building at the beginning so that the reader can understand the world in which the story takes place. Because of this, the beginning of Wish & Mercy was a little slow to start. But this book doesn’t suffer from that. The story is intriguing and engaging from the start.
I really enjoyed reading about Queen Allanis. You can see her develop from the young queen who was thrust into the role, to a strong powerful leader who will fight for her kingdom. Of course I appreciated the development of Tizzy and Aleth’s relationship and enjoyed their story.
It can be difficult to follow along in this world because of how complex it is, but it was definitely an enjoyable read. There are trigger warnings which you should look at before reading but if you enjoyed Wish & Mercy you should be okay with the triggers in this book. This book was enjoyable and a complex, intriguing world that you can lose yourself in.
As soon as I finished Wish & Mercy I knew I had to read C&W, to see what came next for the Hallenar Family! You definitely need to read Book 1 to understand things and book 2.
I’m amazed by AJ Gala’s writing and world-building again OMG! So many characters to love to hate? Everything I loved in Book 1 continued in book 2. AJ has a way of writing that draws you in that you don’t want to put this book down at all. You’ll be reading every chance you have to find out what happens next. Characters development is next level!!! Just when you think you know what’s going on another secret or tidbit is revealed leaving you questioning everything. It’s an emotional rollercoaster but a good one haha.
Curse & Whisper continues to follow the Hallenar family, time is ticking and they have to decide whether to protect themselves or the family. If you’re into Dark Fantasy,Epic fantasy, magic and unique worldbuilding with lots of betrayals, secrets and twists this book, and series is for you! Yea this book is chonky, but it’s so worth it.
I can’t wait for book 3, to continue along on this Journey, and into the NightWalker world. AJ’s twist and turns have you questioning everything you know. I highly recommend this book, just be sure to check out the Trigger Warnings before you start!
Thank you to AJ Gala for writing this amazing world!

Curse & Whisper is book 2 of the Nightwalker series. I liked it better than book one, personally. The story immediately picks up where book 1 left over. The Hallenar siblings are broken, and yet some are closer than ever. Queen Allanis, who's my favorite character, has come into her own and is learning the power games of being a Queen- and most of those games are within her own own house. Tizzy and Aleth are a mess, in my opinion and I have no idea what they're doing other than giving in to temptations. Rhett... well Rhett's the same jerk he's been lol. Lazaraus has show a dark side that I'm curious about how it'll continue to play out. One sister is literally on her death bed and 2 remaining siblings are just there this book.
I definitely think this series is written as an epic fantasy. There's so many characters, side characters, side plots, that right now, you're like what's going on? But I know when it's time for it to come together, it's going to be explosive.
4.5/5 First, I would like to thank AJ Gala for the advanced copy of this book. Thank you for trusting me with your work!
I can usually see a plot twist coming from a mile off, but this one led me on a wild chase! I loved the twisting, spiraling tales that came together to form one incredible picture that got incrementally clearer with each perspective. The last 10% had me on the edge of my seat, desperate to take it in as fast as possible! If you’re into mythical/paranormal creatures, family secrets escaping to haunt a royal family, intense political intrigue, and multiple POVs woven together to create a chaotic tale that will blow your mind, this is the series for you. Full disclosure: this series has an element of taboo romance between full siblings. If this is a trigger for you, please read with caution.
I still can't believe I completed this book in such a less time.. This is the second book in the installment and continues with the Siblings and their journey. The secrets, the struggles, fight of survival and all the things in between, it was amazing to read them and how wonderfully it was written. Tizzy was my favourite, but I do like others too. I can't wait to read the next book. Definitely Recommended.
