This Is Not A Sad Book is truly not a sad book! It's actually a practical, compassionate guide full of strategies and ideas to support yourself or someone else through grief, loss and hard times. In some parts you might even find yourself smiling. Most importantly of all - the stories, tips and advice in these pages are a reminder that even in our darkest hours, there is a way through. A Children's Book Council of Australia Honour Book 'When the world seems dark, sometimes a book is the most gentle and compassionate of companions. This is a beautiful roadmap through difficult terrain.' - Megan Daley, author & award-winning educator
I absolutely loved this book. It’s an easy read and you can finish it in just 2-3 sittings. It feels like a warm, cozy hug. As a society, we don’t talk about grief enough, so this felt like a self help book within the specific genre of grief, but one that approached the topic with generosity and honesty. I especially loved how short the chapters were: just 2-3 pages each, which made the messages clear and accessible. Honestly, I also loved the small, animated-style drawings. They were so simple yet incredibly soothing. Because of that, the book didn’t feel overwhelmingly serious, even though the subject matter was deep.
I can’t recommend this tender-hearted beckon of tutelage highly enough. Whether it is you, your child or someone close to you who has lost their shine, please incorporate This Is Not A Sad Book into your self-help, feel-better library because … it really is OK to feel sad.
