Surrender is a series of four interconnected novels. Each book can be read as a standalone.
Completed Series Broken - Book 1 (Novalee & Conner) Unrequited - Book 2 (Fatima & Quentin) Reticent - Book 3 (Yasmine & Hunter) Covetous - Book 4 (Skylar & Victor)
Tia Sirrah loves to create interracial contemporary romance stories about flawed people and their unfiltered journeys that eventually lead to their happily ever afters. An introvert at heart with an overactive imagination, writing has been a hobby of Tia’s since she was a little girl. Her love of reading and writing led her to attend California State University Hayward, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. She currently resides in Northern California with her husband, their two children, and a cuddle-bully cat.
I have conflicting views about Skylar and Victor's story. First, Esme was entirely wrong. Knowing that Skylar and Victor had feelings for each other, she chose to keep it a secret so she could pursue Victor. Playing dirty seldom ends well, and she got caught in the most unfortunate way. As a best friend, she was a major disappointment, and she had no right to be upset when Skylar and Victor ultimately got together.
I wish Skylar had grown more, especially as she began to notice Ian's selfishness and narcissism. The Ian and Esme train wreck was clear from the outset, and it seems to me that they had already been there before their pathetic attempt at revenge. Skylar and Esme's friendship effectively ended when Esme pursued Victor despite knowing he had feelings for Skylar. While Victor dealt with Ian appropriately, Skylar should have defended herself more, especially after Ian spit on her. Overall, I'd rate this story 3.5 stars.
This was a hard one for me to review. I have mixed feelings about this one because it was love and hate, like and dislike. I don’t wanna say it was bad but it gave me ‘it ends with us vibes’ without the domestic abuse part to that extent.
I truly understand that Skylar was an introverted soul and didn’t have the typical childhood most do with drug addicts for parents, and I remember her cross over from the previous book with her sister Yasmine. However, it’s with a heavy heart that I say I didn’t like her weak character and lack of backbone. Victor sounded like a man without substance yet she loved him without end.
It was all good when they got together because their chemistry was unmatched but I would’ve loved to see more of their love blossom, because the ending felt slightly rushed.
I typically love Tia Sirrah books, yet this one was a HUGE disappointment for me. Skylar was beyond pitiful, lacking self-esteem by allowing her so callous “best friends & fiancé “ to talk down to her & never standing up for herself. Her best friend of seventeen years was slimy AH, yet Skylar would take the blame when her bestie Esme felt she was being wronged. I can’t stand weak female leads with no backbone & that was Skylar, too focused on what others would think of her or blaming her parents for her childhood. After the incident with Esme & Esme secret was revealed, she acted like she forgot Esme joked about trapping Victor. I’m sure for the money. Esme wasn’t a true friend, she was deceitful from the beginning & manipulative. She admitted to sleeping with the man she knew Skylar liked since high school & didn’t care because she was selfish. I think she was jealous of Skylar. This book is also a very SLOW burn.
So where to start? This book was complicated and I am not sure if 4 stars is the correct rating, and if you ask me why let me explain. Well first of Esme, I think she was the worst friend in the world and I would have thought Skylar would have seen through that. Skylar, where was her backbone? I found her to be very immature and I didn’t really see any growth. Any mature adult would have understood that Esme was in the wrong. Liv, not a great friend either and I would have thought she would have understood but she picked sides. Victor, never got his side of the story so it wasn’t easy to get a grip of him as a character. Overall there was just not really a love story until the end but compared to the other books in the series, theses was the least developed characters and the story was unfortunately not developed as well. However I did enjoy reading it but it could have been better. 3,5
I really wanted to like this book. Spoilers ahead...
The premise was really good but pieced together in a weird way. Skylar was way too soft compared to her other heroines. Esme, there is no way this woman was your best friend and said those things to you. Heat of the moment or not. You have been harboring those feelings and that ain't cool.
Ian...there is no way her friends should have let that go on as long as it dud without saying anything. Wild I tell you for this sisterhood!
The ending. So predictable. We all knew she was going to be pregnant (even though he always wore a protection) or she would unalive. Surprise! We got both. It didn't need those two things. Just let them part as friends no more and grow up with their decisions.
It was my least favourite book. I was looking forward to read Sky and Victor, we already read glimpses of them in the other books, it was lacking more background and context to better engage and understand their feelings maybe a few Victor chapters of him telling his side and feelings. I never knew how Victor really felt and how he developed feelings for Sky back then. It just felt like we were drop in the middle of the story.
Esme well sad how it ended but ladies you cannot change feelings and if a man doesn't want you, more important you know and are friends with the person that man has feelings for, move on and maybe help out. She was never a good friend or person, the trap talk! was just her soul as a person manipulative and evil.
I enjoyed this story, it was hard to read in some places where but it’s actually made me want to re-read it.
The book could have been at least another 100-150 pages longer for me, so we got more of Skylar and Victor’s moments, the build up in their relationship and character growth. I would have also liked Skylar to have been stronger in standing up for herself. Esme and Liv weren’t the friends Skylar made them out to be as Esme knew that Skylar and Victor had feelings for each other the whole time.
Even though I wanted more from the story it was still a 5 star for me as I really enjoy Tia Sirrah’s writing.
Spoilers ahead….. I really enjoyed this book. I love this whole series. It was hard to love this one as much only because of the messy love triangle. I think Esme was wrong for going after a man that she knew was settling for her and who she knew her best friend had already fallen for. I did think it was unfair that Sky be left with all the guilt in the end. It wasn’t fair to her. Also it was a bit trifling of Victor to be hooking up with the best friend of the girl who he really wanted to be with. Overall great story line and I can’t wait for the next one.
The story is well written, just a boring at times. I think if the story dealt more on Victor & Skyler instead of her boring boyfriend and friend Esme it would been better. It dragged in places to me. I have enjoyed other books by Tia Sirrah and will continue to read others.
Even though I though Conner and Fatima’s story to be the most memorable and fascinating, this one by actually enjoyable. Skylar was a bit passive at times and she cared too much about what others thought about her decisions in life, but being a Gen Z, that’s expected. I recommend the book though.
This was an awesome book with very entertaining characters. The chemistry between Victor and Skylar was smoking hot and intense. Esme was a good best friend, but she had an addenda, and that was make Victor her man. Ian had emotional problems that even his mom knew it. I highly recommend this book to my fellow romance readers you will not be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this book! Skylar and Victor’s love story really lit up the pages. I couldn’t put it down actually and read it in one day. Excellent writing and storytelling is what you can expect from a Tia Sirrah book, is what I’ve come to learn. Hot love scenes and characters that you can actually relate to. The Surrender series is a must read series. Highly recommended!
Omg I stayed up all night reading but at the same time I didn't want to finish. This is a must read story. I had read all of Mrs. Sirrah books and she never disappoint.
Be ready to use lots of tissue. This story is heart wrenching. To find your true love and simultaneously lose a friendship has a way of stealing your joy. A sad, but enjoyable story.
Tia Sirrah is such a gifted author! I’ve read all her books, and this one also delivers angsty, tangled relationships and swoony chemistry as well as bitter betrayal. Sheesh!
This story is well written. I loved it. The loss of her best friend was absolutely heartbreaking, 💔 😢 However, Sky and Victor's love ❤️ for each other is amazing. Just 1 click. I highly recommend it 👌
Disappointed in how she let Esme do her, was fair and she should have been standing up for herself and to let someone spit on her, really made it hard for me to want to finish reading.this book was hard to read and couldn’t really enjoy it.

This book was the first I have read from this author and Ms. Tia did not disappoint. This novel had all the spice, a little sweet and some very sad moments . I was in it for it all. Good read
I’m sorry not sorry about Esme. She was the villain in my opinion because she knew her friend had always had a thing for Victor and still chose to do the deeds. That was never a friend! All in all good read!!
This book is very well written. I enjoyed the cast of characters and the storyline. I enjoy books written in the 1st person and would have liked to hear a bit of the story from Victor's perspective but overall it was very interesting.
I really enjoyed this book. The FMC & MMC both experienced growth and heartbreak ❤️🩹 However, they also gained unconditional love. This one was a tear jerker but definitely worth the read.
First time reading a book from this author. It was great. Had me in my emotions. Would have like more background about the mmc family, but besides that. Loved it.
Another can't put down until finished. Tia never disappoints. Her stories are full of realism and the characters are believable. A must read for this series.
This book was so good and sad. Esme and Ian were not my favorite people but what a great read. I really enjoyed this series and that the characters are messy, human, flawed and their love is never easy having its ups and downs but worth it in the end. SPOILERS: I know there will be a lot of readers upset about how the characters got together and the "cheating" but truthfully Victor was always Skylar's and vice versa. Yes, they hurt people before they were with each other but one of Skylar's truer moments with herself was the realization that none of them were innocent and they all played a part in what happened. I felt bad for Skylar she was young trying to find out who she was and trapped in an abusive relationship feeling like she had nowhere to go and Victor or no Victor that relationship was escalating and was going to get more violent there was a reason the first fiancée/girlfriend left Ian-he needed therapy and had issues of abandonment and distrust in women but what he did to Skylar after the way he had been treating her and how he betrayed her with Esme was unforgivable. I also do not understand Esme a so-called friend that knows of Skylar's long held crush and feelings for Victor and yet she still moved in not taking the hint that after Victor found out about Skylar and Esme’s connection, he quit talking to her for a while- she knew he still had feelings for Skylar. She was Skylar's friend but competed with her and got mad when Skylar won. Victor said to her that he had always had it bad for Skylar and he did not want to commit to Esme. Esme was a frenemy I know she got hurt but did she really? It was like an ego competition, and she even said she was not in love with Victor but could get there but a large draw or her attraction to him seemed to be he was rich and loved Skylar. Yes, Skylar should have been upfront with Ian and just broken it off, but she was really struggling and scared but when Esme attacked her family and said Victor had forgotten Sky when they had sex the first time, I am like she was doing too much and with malicious intent. Had she lived I can only imagine what kind of games she would play with the couple. I felt sympathy with her sad news but then with her mom's reveal and the flashback to her words to Skylar-I must wonder what revenge she was planning we already saw she could be petty when hurt. I would have liked to hear her thoughts just in one chapter at the end to redeem her a bit, but I still do not know if that would have made me like her.
