The mage trapped by a magical shield has been my best friend for nearly a decade. But he doesn't know his destiny is to kill my family. Or that he's my mate.
Baldr
I met Mist the day he arrived in Fenris. It's hard to ignore magic like his when I thought I was the only mage in town. We became fast friends and it wasn't long before I realized he was my mate. But he's being held captive by the enemy, and tortured so that he can be used as a weapon against me and my family. I want to be with him, to tell him I love him. But I've seen the future and my visions are never wrong. Mist will be the one that gets me killed.
Mist
I've been trapped in this magical bubble for almost a decade. Stolen from a home I can barely remember and tortured by a crazy werewolf to do his dirty work, I'm all alone in this world. Except for my best friend, Baldr, who makes it all tolerable. Being a witch too, he understands me on a level nobody else can. But recently I've been realizing how much I care for him. In fact, I think I love him. I'm not sure if it's because I don't know anything else or because he's actually the guy for me. All I know is that I don't want to ruin our friendship. If he leaves, I'll be all alone again. However, I'm a danger to him. I still can't control my magic and it's only a matter of time before it consumes me. When that happens, I want him as far away as possible.

I was really looking forward to this book but in the end I just couldn’t connect to it. I felt like everything happened too quickly between Baldr and Mist and other than the pull of being mates, there wasn’t much that made me feel these two were even a good match. Plus it was just kinda weird and icky how fast everything happened for a character who was imprisoned for basically his entire life. He definitely had some trauma and deserved some scenes of being overwhelmed or needing some time just to learn how to live freely.
The storyline itself felt really dragged out and the end was a bit weird to me. It felt kind of lackluster and I didn’t like the twist with Baldr and his lineage.
Plus why was nothing ever said again about the dad having a human lover? It was such a big deal in the last book but in this one it was basically deleted and didn’t fit with everything found out at the end.
Meh.
Tropes: Fated Mates, First Times, Dual POV, Wolf/Witch Rating: ⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Spice: 🌶️ 1/5 Relationship: MM
I’m still annoyed with the way book 2 ended. Loki and Heimdall were my favourite and I’m irritated that their book ended abruptly to facilitate this book which didn’t even give as good as Loki and Heimdall’s book.
Not gonna lie, I wanted more from this book. I was so excited about the magic aspect, but it never was really well-defined. And I was so excited about the friends-to-lovers but we never really got to see Baldr and Mist as friends. As for the lovers part, I had two big issues with Baldr: how the mating went down without any prior discussion or Mist giving his consent; and the it never really felt like Baldr loved Mist. For the mated aspect, I found it super distasteful and it was just brushed off so casually. And Baldr never even apologized. Of course Mist was cool with it and was just like “let’s get dressed” but at that point, neither of them had said they had feelings for each other, let alone that they loved one another. And then the whole time, I felt the love emotions from Mist towards Baldr, but Baldr’s feelings were portrayed much less deeply. And so despite Baldr saying he loved Mist, I never really got those love-y feelings from him.
Kindle says this book is just under 250 pages. It did something weird for me. It was all at once a lot happening so nothing ever got the chance to be fully explored while at the same time not a lot of significance happening and also feeling like a much longer read because of how it dragged in the middle. I didn’t like that it felt like a repetition of what happened in book 2 in that the MCs were stranded alone in a dangerous place with it being just them for the majority of the book. Not to mention that in book 2 I missed Thor, Flynn and Baldr, and now in book 3 I missed Thor, Flynn, Loki and Heimdall. I need the previous MCs too! Like we didn’t get to see Thor and Loki make up. And we didn’t get to see Heimdall deal with the murder of his father before his eyes. Even with the current MCs, we didn’t see Baldr process the fact that his mother is a goddess who left him when he was a kid (was it ever explicitly stated that she had no choice about when she left? I don’t think so, in which case couldn’t she have waited a few more decades?). And same with them not really addressing the fact that Mist might be a god/of divine descent. The confrontation with Tyr that this while series has been building up to lasted all of a few pages. We didn’t get to see the packs be merged or the resort get back its feet… All this to say that too many pages were wasted on alone time.
The magic didn’t have rules. I still don’t understand how Tyr was able to wield it. To get into the dome he could’ve been given an incantation that drew its power from Mist himself. But where did he get the magic that cast the spell that “killed” Baldr?!?? Having well-defined magic rules is magic storytelling 101.
There were some editing issues with spelling mistakes, or where Mist learns the same fact three times, or where the wrong word was used changing the entire meaning of the sentences (eg “with” instead of “without”). But I could look past those and always understood what was meant to be said. The biggest inconsistency for me was the non-instinctual knowledge that Mist possessed when he had no memories from before the dome and no experience of certain things inside it. He wasn’t a realistic abductee and prisoner.
As for the sex, each book has now featured more and more werewolf involvement. I wasn’t really digging that. Too bestiality-adjacent for my tastes. The limited use of lube (slick wasn’t a thing here) and lack of prep (here and in book 2) was… a choice. And because I also didn’t really feel the love from Baldr to Mist, I ended up dreading those scenes.
Book 1 has ended up being my favourite. I wish that formula had been retained, rather than trying to expand this world so much more than there was space to really explore and develop it. But at the end of the day, I did read the entire series and there were moments of enjoyment at the start of this book. I just wish the potential and my expectations were met. Book 1 was an enjoyable light read; the others, unfortunately, not as much.
Here's Blake R Wolfe's "Baldr's Secret Mate." It's the third novel in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series.

Oh. My. Goddess. Yes. All the yes.
I loooved these two! They were so cute and protective and adorable and all in. They just wanted the best for people and a happily ever after. They wanted freedom and family and love.
We also got the finale to the whole series in this novel. The heroes finally won, and the villain was finally defeated (spoiler alert??).
I now gotta add Blake to my Author To Binge list..
Trigger Warnings: kidnapping, manipulation, kidnapping, animal death, and more.
I loved this latest volume in the series. Like the previous volumes, this story is full of twists and turns, epic adventures, action and werewolves... But in this volume, it's the mages who are in the spotlight, with Baldr's abilities hinted at in the previous volumes, while here we discover all his power and understand the immense power that Mist also hides. And on top of all this, there's another beautiful love story and some hot and lovely erotic scenes. A beautiful story that the author offers us once again! I'd love to read more of Baldr and Mist's adventures and discover Mist's true power, which is only hinted at in this story.

This BOOK!!! It’s the third and final book in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series and, although it’s an awesomely good read, I’ll admit, I was tempted to put it down a time or two. Not because it wasn’t good, like I said, but this one was so much more suspenseful and heartbreaking at times than the two previous books. Several times I would be reading and start talking to the author out loud, “I can’t believe you’re doing this to me,” and my husband would look over at me like I’d lost my mind 😄. Seriously, from just before halfway, I started watching the percentage and time left obsessively, trying to gauge the likelihood of a victory. I mean, I KNOW it’s a romance and we’re SUPPOSED to always get an HEA but, I promise, once you read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
I’m not sure how it was classified but to me, this isn’t a standalone, you really need to read all three books in order to be able to follow along but, trust me, it’s no hardship. I’ve read and enjoyed all three books, especially the Norse mythology woven throughout. I read romance exclusively and this is only the second book I’ve come across with it. I thought it was a nice change of pace—werewolves AND Viking gods? Seriously? I’m in! 5 stars!!
I received a copy of this book for free but this is my honest opinion.
Baldr's Secret Mate, book three in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series brings the series to a satisfying ending. A very satisfying ending. This book has everything you could want in a paranormal romance. Two strong witches, an adventure filled journey, and lots of sizzling steam. Baldr rescues Mistilteinn from the magical prison that Mist has been trapped in for a decade. They escape to the Asgard realm, abandoned home world of the Norse gods. Asgard is as dangerous as it's beautiful. It's there that Baldr's wolf mates Mist, creating a bond. The story was pretty exciting and fast paced until the mating. Then it was exciting, fast paced and fan your face steamy. True mates, they can't keep their hands off each other. Their adventure is interspaced with lots of sexy intervals. There's also a high level of angst and bite your nails tension. Baldr has envisioned his death many times over the years. But as his death will save his mate and his pack, he accepts his fate. The story climax was a bit unexpected. Very, very thrilling. And also a bit of fun. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and this is my review.
This third and final volume in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series is a surprisingly terrific ending to the trilogy. The plot closely resembles that of the second book, Loki’s Enemy Mate. However, it also provides a stunning conclusion to the conflict between the three brothers and Tyr, the maniacal leader of the rival pack. I was impressed by the imagination of the author and his ability to incorporate Norse mythological concepts besides the characters’ names. Yeah, it’s still a spicy M/M romantasy, but it transcends the mundane for an exciting climax. It almost relies on a deus ex machina. I won’t explain how because of spoilers, but I will say that the conclusion is more powerful than I expected.
A brilliant finish for this series of books, such a beautiful descriptive journey between realms to find the answers to help the Haiti pack win the war that Tyr has waged upon them for far too long. The three brothers may not have worked together through most of the series but in this final edition their individual parts comes together in the most spectacular way.
Baldr and Mist have both loved very different lives but since they first met they've been each others rock, giving them a guiding light to get through all the tribulations of daily life on their mountain, when they find a way to release Mist from his prison their epic journey of discovery is about to begin.
Baldr's Secret Mate is the third and final book in Mated to de Viking Alpha´s series .
In this book Barld, the third brother is the main character. Barld is half witch, half werewolf. Always, because of his powers, his life has been conditioned by his visions, among them, that of his own end. Apart from the romance with Mist, a warlock trapped in a bubble, he follows the storyline of the war against Tyr, the leader of the other pack in the territory occupied by the Hati.
In this one there is more magic, since the two progatonists are witches. It's full of action, romance and good spicy scenes.
Book three starts where we left off at the end of book two, but we follow Baldr’s journey with Mist.
I liked that the characters and their development felt different than the ones of the previous books, each character in this series so far has their own quirks and I like that.
Overall I recommend this book and trilogy if you’re looking for something fairly light, paranormal with sweet hot guys and steam!
• MM romance • fated mates • friends to lovers • first times • fast paced • werewolf/witch + witch • norse mythology inspired • knotting + a sprinkle of breeding kink • vers • HFN • 1st person pov • dual pov
A lot happened in this book—too much for the author to explore fully it seems. And with both of the main characters being unexplainably powerful mages it felt like there was little tension. I don’t feel like these two had quite as much chemistry as the prior couples in this series, though their spicy scenes were frequent and enjoyable. I wish we got to spend more time with the prior cast; this book felt a lot like the last, with the characters trapped away from everyone else—but Loki and Heimdall never really got to fully resolve their story because of this. Overall a disappointing end but enjoyable enough to read.
4.5 stars There is a long journey for Baldr and Mist to travel, one that has violence and deception, learning and evolving, seeing some mysteries solved, twists and turns, super steamy sexy times, intensely powerful emotions, and a hard earned HEA. Both Baldr and Mist are delightful characters, and despite their vastly different backgrounds, the more time they spend together, the deeper their connection becomes on so many important levels.
I received an ARC from the author, this is my honest opinion.
Baldr and Mist, the power couple that the packs needed. Loved their journey and story. Honestly if you didn't dislike, as hate is a strong word, Tyr before now, well he gives you all the reasons why you should. I mean I guess in some way he line of uniting the packs was a good one but how he went about doin it was the problem. Though the end battle was a bit quick it did leave me wanting more with the epilogue. Like they need their own little books for them traveling the realms, maybe even finding others in them to have some more Norse inspired books.
Wow! What a final. This whole series was amazing. After the things that happen in book 1 and book 2, we're getting to the final with Tyr. What a ride. The plot is absolutely thrilling. Action, love, and heat are perfectly balanced. I loved Baldr since the first time he showed up. And Mist was a character I immediately liked. All characters and the world-building were well-developed. Loved the pack-dynamic! Don’t miss it.
This book is filled with action ,adventure and love! Mist a Baldr are definitely fated mates! You can feel the chemistry and connection bursting from the pages. Baldr is on a mission to save mist from Tyr when things go off the tracks and set them on a journey to unknown places and discovery’s that will leave them forever changed. Well written, steamy, fated mates, and an epic conclusion to this series. Or hopefully 🤞 maybe we will see more from this world!
I love this series the ongoing action of these 3 books is awesome - yes I know I use that word a lot but I can't think of what would be.greater!!!!!!! Also the passion from all 3 brothers is so hot you see the flames - as said the ongoing action & war against the enemy is very thrilling but each brother & their mate is also very thrilling but very different from each other Thank you - Lori
Love these bothers and their mates. Wish there was a follow-up. Each story goes in a different direction. My only problem with this book was due to editing problems. There were errors that I could not ignore. Example: In one paragraph there is important info concerning "red berries" and "blackberries". In the next paragraph the " blackberries" were suddenly "raspberries" while the "red berries" were still "red berries".
I liked Baldr and Mist. Secretly they have known each other for along time. Mist being imprisoned by Tyr and Baldr just happened to stumble across the magic bubble. Their story was interesting, angst, violence, a lot of inner dialog and a HEA.
... but it took me forever to wade through it. I don't want to say it was boring, but for me to labour over a book is unusual. That's just me, though. Perhaps you'll love it.
Baldr was the most interesting brother since the beginning and his book is definitely the best. Both MC are likeble and they have the strongest bond. Overall, the book had it s moments that dragged just like the rest. Them away from the pack, in Asgard took too much time, I got bored on that part.
Great finish on the short series. Werewolves and Witches seem to work out quite well. I believe that I have read all of Blake Wolfe's books that he has published. Can't wait for the new ones coming out!
Out of all three in the series, this was my favorite. Maybe, because of the following of the first two. This book enveloped all three in a wonderful way. Loved the HEA and how it ended. Gods, this was a great series! Highly recommend with just enough spice not to distract, but added, to the story.
Loved every minute of this trilogy. Full of action, adventure, fated mates, anticipation and twists you don’t see coming. Truly one of the best trilogy’s I’ve ever read.
“Baldr’s Secret Mate” marks the third installment in the enthralling Mated to the Viking Alpha series. Following the cliffhanger ending of the second book, this new chapter immediately plunges readers back into the gripping narrative of an impending war between rival wolf packs. While I felt disconsolate after the previous book’s unresolved ending, this latest release transforms that disappointment into excitement as the story unfolds.
This book introduces Baldr, the third brother of the Hati pack, alongside Mist, a powerful witch destined to become his mate. The journey for Baldr and Mist is not merely romantic; it intricately weaves elements of magic and their shared destinies within a supernatural realm. Although Baldr carries both werewolf and witch traits, the focus on magic in this narrative piques the reader’s interest and expands the series’ thematic depth.
Blake Wolfe, the talented author, continues to deliver a potent mix of thrill, action, and heated moments throughout “Baldr’s Secret Mate.” His intelligent storytelling and imaginative plot development engage the audience, ensuring that each character’s journey is fully realized. As with its predecessors, readers can expect an enthralling blend of excitement that leaves them fulfilled and yearning for more.
