Black Seas of Infinity: The R'lyeh Cycle Book Two

They called it the Event.

The Event changed everything. The earthquakes came first, including the Big One, shattering the Pacific Rim and plunging the world into chaos. Then the seas came, the skies opened, and the never-ending rain began. But as bad as that was, there is something worse.

The Rising has begun.

Providence is flooded. An agoraphobic artist watches from his window as the sea takes the streets. But the ocean has brought more than storms, as the presence of something alien prods and grasps his mind. Can he find the courage to flee, or will his mind and body be taken by the storm and the creatures within?

Even as the skies open and the streets fill, an international art thief takes one last job to steal from the legendary Miskatonic Library. His mission is the Incendium Malificarum, powerful enough to end the world, or to save it. But is he simply a pawn of powers greater than he knows?

A young mother, separated by flood waters from her family, grieves and dreams as the world and the people around her begin to change, to become something else. But what dreams may come when the world has already ended?

But how did this begin? A disgraced college professor makes a Faustian bargain and discovers a conspiracy older than man, and a Key to unlock the fate of the entire human race. Can he save himself, can he save anyone, or is this predestined since the Great Flood?

And in the Pacific, He is rising.

In Black Seas of The R’lyeh Cycle Book Two, authors Curtis M. Lawson, Brett J. Talley, Gemma Files, and William Holloway have created a timely and uniquely modern reimagining of the Cthulhu Mythos.

I enjoyed the anthologies of these Cthulhu-type creatures causing different apocalypses. Some stories were very graphic and some I wish went into more specifics. I listened to the audible version and Nicholas Selker did a great job narrating.

Black Seas of Infinity: The R’lyeh Cycle Book Two continues the epic Eldritch Apocalypse horror that began in The Abyssal Plain. Herein are four more perspectives of what they called The Event and how it changed both the face of the world and life as we know it.

“And the Whole of Reality Shall Crash Upon Me” by Curtis M. Lawson takes us into the life and mind of an artist trapped in his apartment building, where ghastly nightmares exacerbate the chaos around him. This is a poignant and gruesome tale of torment and terror with subtext regarding the changes wrought in people trying to survive.

“The Innsmouth Look” by Brett J. Talley reads like a Lovecraftian thriller and follows a high-end thief who embarks on a final heist and discovers more than he could have imagined. Full of intrigue and suspense, this compelling story takes us deeper into the mystery and horrors surrounding The Event and gives us a peek at what’s to come in the aftermath.

In “The Ghost Map” by Gemma Files, a woman is separated from her family and trapped in her apartment, surrounded by the chaos of the changes to the land, to the people, to herself. This is a disturbing combination of psychological horror and body horror, a fight for mental and physical survival in a horrifying and spiraling situation.

The volume ends at the beginning with William Holloway’s “Clavis Perfectum: A Prelude.” This is the dark and compelling origin story, the Prelude to The Event. It’s a gruesome and evocative tale of desperation, terror, and grisly Eldritch horrors. With vivid characters and intense storytelling, Holloway takes us to the monstrous house where the evil catalyst awaits.

This incredible and immersive second volume in The R’lyeh Cycle continues the epic rise of the Lovecraftian mythos in ways both new and true to the origin stories. One can only hope a third book is forthcoming. A highly recommended read.

Like the first volume, this is a 4-novella collection of 4 authors - like variations on a theme. Bill Holloway’s end-cap novella here, Clavis Perfectum, takes the cake here for me. Brett Talley’s The Innsmouth Look, as the second novella, was a close favorite and a new author for me as well. The first and third entries, were by Curtis Lawson and Gemma Files, respectively. The latter was not good, and the former was a decent story, but did not have the Lovecraftian genre feel I was looking for - rather, it could have been any apocalyptic horror story. I’ve read other Lawson books, and they are worth checking out.

A collection of 4 short stories based on the Cthulhu Mythos.
"And The Whole Of Reality Shall Crash Upon Me" & "Clavis Perfectum" stood out to me as the best of the collection, but they were all overall good Stories.
I was excited to read this second book in the Series, but was sadly a bit disappointed. When compared the first book "The Abyssal Plain" Bleak Seas of Infinity is left wanting.
Unlike the first book where all the stories loosely tied together to create a dynamic atmosphere, these stories we all unrelated and didn't seem to fit well into the collection.

I really enjoyed Book 1 : ''The Abyssal Plain'', so when i learned about this i ordered it immediately. It took me three days to complete and it really stands out from the tons of modern 'Lovecraftian' stories that are out there.I heard that Mr.Holloway is assembling material for a third book, and i really hope that he makes it....
Recommended to all, who want to read quality Mythos stories.

What a great series of tales, like the first book all of the stories take place in the same world where "the event" has taken place. The writer knows the mythos well and the event is essentially R'lyeh rising and star wormwood shooting beams of insanity all over earth. Lots of creatures, cults and stories in a doomed world. Lots of familiar names, places and beings and of course and abundance of dread. If your a fan of the mythos I definitely reccomend this and the first book in the series.
