Get Started in Stock

Rate this book
In the updated second edition of this book, you will find all the learning I have gained since I started with stock photography in 2007. Armed with this knowledge, you can confidently start to make money from your own photos. How much can you earn? A recent survey of 700 stock photographers reported that the average income was $17000 with the highest reported being $900,000! The median (the income of the 350th photographer if you ranked everyone by sales) was $3000. My aim is to get you above that point, as quickly as possible!

What are my qualifications for this? I am just like you; a competent amateur who enjoys photography. In just over four years, I have built my earnings from nothing to around $15,000 a year by following the steps in this book.

The early chapters cover the stock industry, how it developed and what you will find now – some bad news and some good. Then, you will find an overview of how to get started including a full step by step workflow to efficiently manage your images and get them online on the major agencies. I then describe each of 20 microstock agencies and the pros and cons of uploading to them, adding any tips that will help maximize your earnings. Finally, in the later chapters, I delve deeper into keywording secrets and how to try to get your images displayed ahead of the rest to the buyers.

Why wait - your photos are only gathering dust on your hard drive - make a start now in Stock Photography!

I have followed the author's blog online for the past year and I wanted to get his in-depth advice on how to get started in stock photography. His book provided insights into the various stock agencies and how they operate. In addition I learned tips on how to prepare the images for stock. There are still questions that have come up. But overall, I am very happy to have read this book.

Sounds helpful

Could be a good partner in sales. Not that deep into the market but still could be an useful tool.

Great insight from an experienced stock photography seller

A great intro to stock photography with details about the different sites available to sell your pictures. I found it extremely helpful that the author included sales figures from the past several year. He clearly is experienced and had a lot of good knowledge to pass on. Although I am done reading this book, I will still refer back to it for reference.
