⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 — “Secrets, Scandals & Love That Hits!”
Charisse Carr delivers a gritty, drama-filled rollercoaster with *A Romantic Entanglement Series*, and I was hooked from the very beginning! What starts off feeling like a familiar urban romance quickly transforms into a deeply layered story about family trauma, female loyalty, and messy, magnetic love.
The story follows cousins Candy and Autumn—ride-or-die besties who are navigating chaotic lives, fractured family dynamics, and complicated love interests. Candy is loyal to her jail-bound fiancé Rah, while Autumn is outspoken and bold, dead-set against him and hiding a dangerous secret that would shatter Candy’s world. When the cousins cross paths with brothers Knowledge and Kane at a mysterious mansion party, sparks fly—and so do the secrets.
📚 What I Loved:
The short chapters and quick pacing made this such an easy, binge-worthy read. There’s a strong sense of family** throughout, even among the chaos. Whether it's Candy and Autumn’s cousin bond or the way Knowledge embraces Candy’s family, Carr paints a rich portrait of chosen family and emotional healing. Knowledge and Autumn’s relationship was the unexpected gem. What started as a no-strings hook-up slowly unraveled into something deep, honest, and beautifully flawed. Watching them grow from surface-level intimacy to genuine love was everything. The reveal-heavy structure—from paternity twists to family betrayals to blackmail and abuse—kept me turning the pages. Uncle Peteabsolutely stole the show in the best way. His comedic timing and "bout-it" energy was the perfect balance to all the drama.
⚠️ What Gave Me Pause:
Around 80% in, the violence began to feel excessive. It was like reading a live-action "Love & Hip Hop" episode with all the punches, stomps, and jumps. While it added tension, a little went a long way. The story's foreshadowing, made some plot twists feel predictable. Still, that didn’t stop the story from being compelling.
🎭 The Vibe: It’s urban romance meets street drama with heart. The narrative pulses with secrets, betrayals, and street loyalty, but at the core is a story of redemption, vulnerability, and love that’s worth fighting for. Fans of gritty romance with real stakes, layered backstories, and evolving relationships will feel right at home here.
✅ **Would I recommend it? Absolutely! If you're into books that mix hood love with suspense, female empowerment, and deeply flawed but lovable characters, this one’s for you.
I loved this story the second time around, I forgot a lot had happen with the family. I'm happy she gave us a update on the kids, but the update was only about Kyle. That's okay though, they really had a happy ending and that I'm happy about. They got rid of all the snakes that were around them, I'm glad I read this story again. The first time I borrowed the books, but this time I purchased it. Great job!!! I loved this author's work.
What a rollercoaster ride. Everyone got what they deserved. I’m happy uncle Pete was able to get out. Peanut mom was really crazy like her. I did bad for Jade, but she shouldn’t have played both sides. Everyone needs a friend like Keisha.
From the beginning to the end this book had me feeling all kinds of ways. I couldn't stand Keelie with her evil self and Peanut too they had me hot!!!! Overall it was a great book and I enjoyed it a lot.
