Secrets, Lies, Deception …Betrayal

One of the things I’ve always liked about this author’s books is that he’s not afraid to tackle hard subjects. This book is no different. It deals with death, infidelity, family strife and one time devout believers who have lost their first love. Tough subjects are handled with integrity, including secrets, lies, deception and betrayal.

Small town Cedarwood Creek has changed. The town Ryan Fitzgerald grew up in was no longer the same. They had lost their way and had become a bunch of self righteous, vindictive and meddling people. Oh, they still attended church services… religiously. Ahhh, but being a pew sitter does not make a believer, and neither does being a deacon. Actions speak louder than words and that’s plain to see in Cedarwood Creek. Well, maybe I said that wrong because the gossip in Cedarwood Creek, right or wrong, spoke loud and clear.

If you’re anything like me, the people in this book will have you grinding your teeth, especially one named Bill. Can’t go further without giving spoilers. Let’s just say if Bill was presented with the scripture of ‘Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone’, Bill would be turning around and running away.

It was good to see a town full of self righteous and vindictive people finally look in the mirror and see the full picture ... who they were, who they are and who they can be once again.

🤔OBSERVATIONS

✒︎ Emily wasn’t very understanding. It takes time to grieve and Emily’s expectations seemed selfish. Also, she should have understood the need for support. Tiffany was 15, child support is a given and easily could have been court mandated had that been requested.

✒︎ Appreciated how tough subjects were handled in a clean and wholesome way.

✒︎ Wonder how ‘Roni’ will feel when she comes back from her sister’s to her home? Especially with ‘Linda’ working at the grill. I often have heard that it’s easier to forgive than to forget. Also, I wonder if Linda knew of Frank’s marital status when they started dating. Both Frank and Linda were old enough to know the consequences of their choices

Another inspirational novel that is so impactful and life changing. I normally read more non fiction books cause I like my reading to matter and I want to learn from it so that is changes me. What I love about this author is that while it is a fictional story, as a reader you are challenged as you get to do life with the characters. And you do not leave unchanged but as a reader your perspective and your life are forever changed in an eternal way. I love how this book deals directly with grief, marriage and family drama, imperfect families, community, and love. But most of all I appreciate how all problems and challenges are brought to God and resolved in His way and His timing. Another great book by this author. I’ll end with this great quote from the book, ‘I don’t think He brings the pain, but He allows it and then uses his own purposes to shape us more like His Son.’

Excellent book

This was another incredible book from T K. Chapin. Losing my own dad 4yrs ago, this book tugged at my heartstrings, but in a good way. Realizing that our parents are sinners just like the rest of us and being thankful for the good they do/did bring to our lives. Trying in our faith to get us through the hard times.... Praise him in the storms. Don't rely on your own strength or the strength of your loved ones to get you through. Rely on God.

I have been struggling to move on after finishing The Seven Sisters series which left me in a huge book hangover. So, I decided to rely on one of my go-to authors and give his latest book a read. This book is dedicated to the author's father after he passed on, so felt it fitting to read after the passing of Pa Salt. I had to pause this story though as I was not mentally quipped at that time. I will definitely get back to it though.

A heart wrenching story of loss, deception, and how through faith and trusting God’s plan, things work out for the best. T. K. Chapin is a remarkable Christian story teller. This story covers death of a parent, uncovering a long held secret, the typical small town gossip ring, and the way in which through God it all works out in the lives of this family and community with Him at the helm

I did not feel this was up to Mr. Chapin's best. It wasn't as realistic as most of his other books. Too many unhappy events, the number of which would not be likely to happen to one family over such a short period of time in my mind. I did not connect with his characters as I usually do. Having said all that, I still did enjoy the read and could recommend it as inspirational and encouraging.

Excellent book!

T.K., this is one of your best books. I love the Bible verses applied to their lives. But mostly, I love the message given throughout the story about the love God has for us. We are imperfect people, but God loves us still. You have hit a winner with this book. Thank you for some enjoyable reading and inspiring words.

New to me author!

Nice to see couples with issues may separate but with God's guidance they stay together and work things out and end up helping others less fortunate! Besides, losing a loved one can really put a strain on a marriage!
I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author!

loving through loss

Loss can really change a person. That becomes even more problematic when that person has a spouse. Everyone around him or her can have a hard time accepting the changes brought on by the loss. With the Lord as our guide, we need to learn to love and grow. Well done!

Ryan and Emily's family is in for a rollercoaster of emotional ride as soon as the story begins. This story runs the gambit of emotions, dealing with grief, secrets, family issues, community issues, and making the decision to draw closer to God. No one and no family is perfect, and Ryan and Emily are trying their hardest to navigate through everything. A wonderful read. Great narration.
