Owen Tanner was no one’s ideal uncle. Lucky for Jesse, his uncle didn’t care.
Jesse’s parents wanted to give their son a taste of the great outdoors, but the boy got rotten weather, cabin fever, and his no-fun Uncle Owen instead. A quiet, reclusive man with a mysterious past, Owen prefers the storm and the porch’s rocking chair to the tempests and tantrums inside.
When Jesse’s boredom turns to heart-pounding fear, he and Owen must team up to save their family. To Jesse’s surprise, he soon learns his dopey uncle is far more resourceful than he could have imagined.
Owen Tanner might be a lousy uncle, but mess with his family, and you’ll regret he ever rose from his rocking chair. For Owen, merely getting even is for amateurs.
The Shepherd is a gripping and often humorous and touching tale of adventure and redemption.
Benjamin writes fun, genre-bending novels that inspire, uplift, and entertain. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, he has traveled widely and spent a large chunk of his adult life in Japan. He can now be found sauntering through the maze of narrow, stony alleyways in the ancient and legend-rich town of Safed, in Israel’s upper Galilee.
If you like original, life-affirming stories with characters who stay with you long after you’ve put down the book, please give one of his novels a try.
The plot draws you in and you don't want to quit reading for any reason!! The characters are so real, if somewhat unusual! Great for young adults as well as more mature folks, except for some cursing which was necessary for the characters. Very exciting and well written!!
I typically don't read survivalist fiction, but this blew me away. The two main characters are not the heroes you would normally see in this type of universe. The protagonist (Uncle Owen) is an older man and the deuteragonist (Jesse) is a small child, but they manage to get the job done.
