*4.5* Jake (32) is an ex-con doing a favor for his bff still in prison. His best friend just happens to be the older brother of Kit (40), the fmc. He visits Kit at her bar and offers to help be her cook until she can find a replacement.
Kit is a very strong fmc, she knows exactly what she wants, and sets out to get it. When she receives bad news from the fertility clinic, Jake happens to overhear, and offers his services.
“Just…jerk off, okay? And then…put it in.”
He huffs out a sound. “Seriously?”
Kit tries to keep distance between them, but Jake has other ideas.

This was a 5 star right up to the last quarter of the book. It was wrapped up too quickly and what happened to the ex?! I need to know how miserable he was with his infantile baby mama.

I came for the sexy times (there be breeding, dirty talk, praise kink!), and stayed for the palpable chemistry between Kit (a prickly restaurant owner who wants clear boundaries and a baby) and Jake (an ex-con who offers to give her a hand in the restaurant and with the getting pregnant thing).
There was a lot of spice (as advertised), but the sex scenes were very much part of the emotional/relationship arc. It went from clinical but weirdly erotic to downright carnal. Jake had a filthy mouth and yet somehow the hottest line was “That’s it…” 😯🥵. But the part that made me melt was when Jake oiled Kit’s door hinge… not a euphemism, just a crass guy revealing himself to have major caregiver vibes. 😍
I was trying to decide if I rate this 4.75 stars (because of the plot point about Kit’s ex-husband) but in the end I went with 5 stars because, despite the story being built around a breeding kink, the characters’ emotions and actions felt very grounded — which is what I loved most about the book.

so the premise is fmc is 40 years old, she always wanted kids but her cheater loser ass husband puts it off then cheats fmc with 20-something year old and gets her pregnant. They divorce and fmc starts ivf by herself, doesn't work too much money enter mmc who is her brother's best friend from prison, he hears how ivf didn't work volunteers (he wanted fmc as soon as he saw her for the job at her diner).

MMC is an ex-con in town to do a favor for his prison buddy. He's supposed to check on his sister who's going through a bad divorce and trying to keep a restaurant afloat. Kit is feeling her bio clock ticking away and she wants a baby. Like really bad, bad enough to agree to let her brother's prison bestie knock her up.
This was absolutely delicious! I am absolutely trash for a big,mean tatted ex-con who's just a big softie at heart. Jake carried this whole book for me and it's lucky I'm hero centric because Kit was pretty annoying for about half the book. I have zero patience for FMCs who are intransigent to the point of stupidity or in this case cruelty. I get that she was afraid of getting hurt but the push and the body betrayal went on way too long. In any case she eventually got her head out of her rectum and grew on me about halfway through. The spice was spicy with just the right amount of kink, the dirty talk was on point and there was enough angst to give me the flutters. This book came close to five star territory but in the end, I thought the pacing was a little wonky, the ex husband situation wasn't resolved well and the FMC and her body betrayal was irritating. But Jake was top tier book bf material and I highly recommend him 😏

i thought i was prepared for the level of dirty talk and eroticism (i mean, right there in the title implies it) but oh my i was leveled in ways i couldn't even have expected. whew.
this right here is one excellent dirty talking hero who is INTENT on helping our heroine have a baby because he wants her that bad.
talk about "touch her and die" he does literally threaten murder on her doofus ex-husband (who was NOT sympathetic to her miscarriage in the past and then went and knocked up a far younger woman). I did knock a star because i got stressed about the ex-husband's motivations and when the hero was filmed punching the man who CHOKED the heroine in the parking lot (jerk diner at the restaurant) and i never felt those plot points were resolved beyond they happened and then were left dangling.

God, this book hit so many of my soft spots, a big, grumpy, protective ex-con with a hidden soft streak? Yes, please!!
Jake walks into Kit’s life like a storm she never saw coming, all rough edges and quiet care and I was immediately obsessed.
He’s just in town to do a favor for her brother, who’s still locked up but from the second he steps into her diner, the tension is on. Kit’s overwhelmed, stubborn and so done with life handing her scraps. She wants a baby, not a man, not a messy relationships, just a child to love and call hers. And Jake? He’s not looking for forever. He makes it clear he’s not the guy who stays. But he’s also the guy who can give her what she wants most.
So they make a deal: no-strings-attached baby-making sex, all on Kit’s terms. Lights off. No talking. Just clinical, mechanical, get-the-job-done stuff.
…Except Jake’s not built that way.
The man praises her like it’s his full-time job. He breaks her rules slowly, with care and heat and that protective alpha energy that turns every scene into pure gold. Watching him try so hard to hold back when all he wants is to care for her? Whew. He fixes things in the diner before she even knows they’re broken. He watches her work herself to the bone and starts doing little things , cleaning, protecting, making sure she's seen. He sees her in all the ways no one else ever has, and it's no wonder she starts breaking her own rules, too.
Was Kit a bit frustrating? Yeah. Especially in the first half. That whole emotional whiplash thing , the push and pull, the “this is just sex” while her heart's clearly involved, dragged on longer than it needed to. And I get it, she’s scared of being hurt again, but it did border on self-sabotage sometimes. Still, once she finally lets her walls down, she becomes this layered, vulnerable woman who just wants to be loved on her terms. And that was beautiful.
Also, the spice? Was spicy. Kinky enough to keep it fun, emotionally charged enough to keep it from feeling hollow. The dirty talk, the tension, the way he made her feel wanted even when she was trying so hard not to, all of it worked for me.
The pacing was a little off at times, and the subplot with her ex could’ve been handled better. But honestly? Jake carried this whole thing. He was top-tier book boyfriend material. If you love a tattooed, quiet, dominant man who wants to give you everything while insisting he’s nothing you need, this one's for you.

This was probably the least sexy story I have ever read. I am dumbfounded by the 4 and 5 star ratings. The absolute ONLY redeeming quality was the level of the MMC dirty talk, which brought the book from zero stars to two. DNF at 63%

I just loved Kit and Jake. They stole my heart and this romance was just exactly what I needed.
Jake is an ex-con doing a favor for Kit's brother since he is still in prison. From the moment Jake walks into Kit's diner there's attraction between the two of them.
“Seriously. Are you, like, watching over me or something?” I let my gaze flick down to that pouty little mouth and back up again. She looks soulful. Pissed. Fucking beautiful. “Someone has to.”
Kit is down on her luck and desperately wants a baby, she is invested in being a mother by herself. Jake wants to help her getting the thing she wants most but he makes it clear to her that he's not a family man and he will leave within six weeks.
They are both scared of being in a relationship for different reasons and watching the character development of these two was wonderful to watch.
I loved how strong and independent Kit was. She had a lot of things going on and she was also tired of having so much on her shoulders. All she wants is a family of her own and when Jake wants to give her a baby by having no-strings-sex she is all for it. But only if she sets the rules. She is fearful to let herself feel but of course that's not possible for long.
Jake was such a steady and protective man. He wants to take care of her especially when he sees how much of her energy goes to taking care of the diner but not herself. He makes sure that there are no threats to her at home or at the diner, he fixes things that could cause her to get hurt. He doesn't care much for Kit's rules to keep the sex clinical with no lights on and goes about breaking Kit's rules. The way this man praises her was just beautiful and so hot.
I just loved every scene with these two. I really liked that this was so emotional but sexy at the same time. The way these two grow and open up and love each other was wonderful.

The angst is angsting, Kit just turned 40 and she's going through a difficult divorce with her asshole ex (may he die badly), she longs for a family, a kid, affection and hopes for something good to finally happen to her. Her brother is in prison for a non specified cause? (it's hinted he killed someone but he had a cause and even if not i'm #1 Frank supporter he did nothing bad) and he sends his former cellmate to check on her hehe 😏 Jake offers to stay and help her run her restaurant but OBV the two of them have sizzling attraction and basically become fuckbuddies with no string attached.

This book was a completely wonderful surprise! I was expecting something light and kinda silly and what I got was a truly fabulous read that was both angsty and emotional. The smexy times were super hot, but it was the fantastic chemistry between the characters that did it for me. I hope we'll be getting stories for some of those side characters! This is definitely an author I'm going to keep on my radar ❤

Holy fuck.
I was not expecting this to be such an emotional read.
I was expecting hot smut with little plot.
Which was delivered.
But it came with a HEAPing pile of angst. Fuck.
The whole beginning was so hard to read. And especially from Jake’s POV, because he was down bad for Kit from the start.
That ending was so cute, but I wish there was a tiny bit more of that sweetness beforehand. Because it was mostly just a bunch of fucked-upness clashing against the walls.

I don't know what happened but I grew distracted as the story moved forward. The breeding kink is kinky but it was pretty clinical. I devoured this! The heroine, who is newly divorced, has always wanted a child but her ex said he didn't want children...until he had an affair with his assistant and got her pregnant. Kit is now trying to have a child on her own via IVF, but is unsuccessful and facing the possibility of not being able to have her own kids, since she's just turned 40.
The hero, Jake, became best friend's with Kit's brother while in prison and is now passing through town on his way to his next job as an underwater welder. Kit's brother asked Jake to check in on her, so he does, and quickly realizes that she needs his assistance. Kit's restaurant is in need of a cook, so Jake agrees to help out...and then he also offers to help Kit get pregnant. Kit tries to keep things clinical and emotionless by having a list of rules (such as no kissing, lights off, and no more touching than necessary) but Jake slowly and surely breaks down her walls (and her rules) one by one.
There was a ton of breeding kink in this book, and Jake had a dirrrrrty mouth 🥵 While pregnancy is probably my least favorite trope in romance, this book really worked for me because it was a lot of spicy times and breeding kink, but the actual pregnancy didn't happen until the epilogue. There was also more emotion in this than I originally expected, and I was rooting so hard for Kit and Jake to both get their much deserved HEA!
