The Death Whisperer #3

Of Wind and Terror

Rate this book

The devastatingly wicked princes don’t just want my powers…

They want my mind, body, and soul.

After a brutal attack on Gaia’s temple, I find myself turning to an unlikely ally for help. Only he can save me from this new threat.

But past and present collide when I reunite with the very princes I once feared. They no longer want to cage me away.

No, these villains are determined to see my soar…and they’ll kill anyone who gets in their way.

Survival won’t be easy when we discover we have to travel through a forest full of unspeakable horrors and face threats we never knew existed.

The clock is ticking, and every moment that passes brings us one step closer to the end of all we know.

Death has whispered to me for years now, and I’ve finally learned how to listen.

Of Wind and Terror is the third book of a reverse harem series (but NOT the last book). It contains strong language, sexual situations, violence, and scenes that some readers may find triggering. Please read the author’s note at the beginning of the book. The story will end with a cliffhanger.

Be warned—in this book, you’ll find psychotic villains obsessed with their girl, an extravagant world, and a surplus of plot and character development. The series will get steamier as it progresses.

Definitely a solid 4.25 for me. Now I really want to talk about this with someone and that's always a mark of a good book/series.
I'm really enjoying this. All the love interests are unhinged and worthy of hate in the beginning... Well, maybe besides . The character growth is really satisfying without ruining all that unhinged energy.

I think I’m tired of reading about guys stumbling in love with naive girls that can’t/don’t speak.
This was also just another fluff fest.

I mostly skimmed it.
There are so many actively repeated sentences stacked on top of each other in a simulated insinuation of panic that it’s actually insulting to pretend they’re intended for anything but filling up space.

First repeated sentence:
“He’s __ _____ _ ____ ____.” x9
(I won’t spoil an already anticlimactic reveal, but nine times back to back? We get it, man)

Second:
“I need to die.” x7

Third:
“I’m sorry.” x5

And these were just from two sequential chapters.

If this were turned in for a grade, the professor would scoff and return this draft face down on the author’s desk with a look.

This world also apparently has cancer, Stockholm syndrome (which isn’t a real thing, it was manufactured to explain why hostages took the bank robbers’ side over the police, who openly expressed they didn’t care whether the hostages lived or died), and top hats, too.
Whatever.

She never remembers her dream walking, but suddenly recalls everything without explanation or questioning it.

There’s a blip of spice, but it’s the kind where he does the minimum and she erupts in ecstasy. Give me a break.

The ending is an effective cliffhanger, I just wish it didn’t leave us dangling over an inevitable pit of nothing.

Truly disappointing with all the potential the idea initially had.

Katie’s Done it again!!

Of of all Katie’s amazing works the death whisperer hands down is my favorite. The plot, the men, the humor! I’m a sucker for morally grey men and Kassy definitely has a lot to go around. Omg that CLIFFHANGER WAS CLIFFY. It could have been worse but it has me jumping out of my seat for the next book. I’m curious how all these fae princes will agree to share her haha. But I’m loving watching their relationship strengthen. Plus Kassy has some great Friends in her side. We learn some very important information about Kassy and I can’t wait to see how she fares in the next book.

This book was crazy!!!! She gets marked by Chaos and learns the history of Chaos. She finds out that Aleksander is an elf and the have to travel to the land of Imogen to see the bone weaver, he can remove the mark of chaos from her. Draven is really Sylvan the day prince. Using a magical cuff he was able to take the real Draven’s powers and his appearance. He also has a cuff on Calan, because Calan saw that Sylvan had a room full of portals. Kassandra confirms that Blaze, Treyton, Calan, Aleksander, Sylvan and Draven are all her mates and she finally knows. Treyton is the one who weaponized the fae plague but he changed his mind, but his dad unleashed it. Treyton, Blaze, Aleksander and Kassandra make it through the creepy forest to the fall court. Her mark lights up and starts to destroy the castle. Runt shifts into a fae that Treyton recognizes, but i don’t know who. Draven escapes his cuff and frees Calan. Kassandra gets a visit from Gaia and finds out that Gaia and Thanatos created her and her twin brother. Her twin brother is the one who marked her and is trying to awaken Chaos.

I loved this next book in the Death Whisperer series and reading more about these characters and their story is intoxicating. I adore how the main female character is finally learning to be a little less scared of the world and admit her feelings for the guys. I am also very happy that the guys seem to be on the path to getting along (or at least not killing each other). This book also sheds a lot more light on the main characters' background and the history of the world they live in. I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens after that cliffhanger.

Fairly good

I enjoyed this book, I found it to be extremely slow the first half. It was frustrating to read how they refused to tell her they were her mates. We got to read the guys point of views so the reader knew why they were so possessive and protective of her. It took her saving them from Mitcha. I still don’t understand what exactly happened there. It bugged me that she was separated from Calan and how we finally got to learn who Raven was. I really liked the end, it shows there’s something positive to look forward too!

Ooooh it’s getting so good! I love this series, this book was full of surprises! I’m so excited for the rest of the series! I absolutely love Kassandra & hate everything she’s been through! But thankfully the mates she’s with now are finally doing right by her! Alexsander is my favourite I think, he’s so insane in the best way possible 🤣 Blaze and Treyton have grown on me! And now we have a Calan & Draven duo, I’m so excited to see what they get up too! I have sooo many questions most importantly who the hell is runt? 🤣🤣 As always Katie May’s writing is addictive and amazing to read!

This series is one of my all time favourites of Katie’s, so original and so so good! This book picks up from the last beautifully and finally we are discovering exactly who’s who in Kassandra’s inner circle soon to be harem.
Plenty of action, the smut is HERE! And it doesn’t disappoint, a beautiful slow burn build up nearly reaching its peak.
I’m team Aleks- that’s all I’m saying, Katie writes the best hot damn, crazy sexy stabby psycho’s EVER! 🌶️ 🌶️ 😈
I need more stat! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was phenomenal, and I could not put it down! I loved this latest addition to Kassandra and her mates! Brilliant writing kept this book very entertaining! I loved the characters and how they were obsessed with Kassie. I'm loving the direction of this series and very much appreciate the little recaps in the beginning of each new book! That ending was intense, though and my heart broke for the characters.

Great one

I love this series and I really want to know how this ends haha, but it's the journey that counts and i know that, but still that cliffhanger is killing.

I love to see how the men learn to..... tolerate each other, it's the best way to describe it, tolerate, and how Kassandra is growing not only in her own mind but also in the way she dares to "speak" up.

I need book 4!

Oh, prepare for a book hangover. Lots of secrets are revealed and the groundwork for the revelations to come are laid. I like the guys even as I hate them. Flawed, brutal, irredeemable? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

solid third

This is a great continuation of the series. I enjoyed all the male POV instead of just the females as we got to understand how they all are better.

A few inconsistencies however.

I really enjoyed the first 2 books and couldn’t wait until the next one. I was a little disappointed about this one but still enjoyed it. Still a slow burn with her mates and I wish there was a little more romance. Can’t wait until the next one.

Waiting for the next book!

Lovely story with guys you want to thump in the head and hug all at the same time! Great leading lady. Small but spunky. Can't wait to see what cones next in the plot.

cannot get enough

Just when you think you have an idea where this story is going, a curveball ( a brilliantly written one) gets thrown at you. I was prepared to hate a lot of these characters but I totally love them (most) all now! Can’t wait to see where this series ends up!

3 ⭐️

Disclaimer: I’m going to review it without spoilers at the top, then create a line and anything below that line will be spoilers. Do with that what you will.

Not all 3 ⭐️ books are created equally. Sometimes, I rate a book a three because I enjoyed it, I just didn’t love it. Other time, I’m disappointed in a book that had so much potential…hence the three. This one is somewhere in the middle of those 🤷🏻‍♂️

What I liked:
- The plot finally started to pick up the pace! We’re seeing things happen, feelings being explored, etc.
- The boys are slowly starting to become men
- Redemption arc…but not? (I’ll tell more in the spoilers)
- A man that cries 😍🫠
- World-building/lore that develops in this book.
- The author makes side characters you really love.
- The chaos that Aleksander brings to the Cayetana
- The last two chapters were absolute gold.

What I didn’t like:
- The way this author is handling (or not handling at all, actually) Kassandra being raped in her past. How has she not told a single one of her men!?
- The three phrase repetition. Over and over and over again. We get it. But not everything needs this emphasis.
- Some of the best side characters (Cayetana & Serena) are just MIA

This is a very short list because everything is a spoiler in this review for what I do and don’t love.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
————————————————————

What I liked:
- Treyton’s redemption arc, but also him falling from his pedestal at the same time. Him showing emotions, admitting feelings, showing true remorse, growth, etc. THIS IS HOW A MAN SHOULD OWN UP TO THINGS! 👏🏼
- Again, Treyton sobbing. It’s just so heartbreaking but cute at the same time. I love this pink haired fuck.
- Blaze improving at least somewhat. I’d like to see him own up to things, apologize, etc. more but we’re getting there.
- Twin brother?? This popping up in the third book and not making Draven the villain potentially has been confused but intrigued at the same time?
- The ending! Both Runt’s and Draven & Calan’s endings. I can’t wait.

What I didn’t like:
- Least favorite quote: Blaze has done nothing in all the time I’ve known him to earn my trust. He kidnapped me, used me, and treated me as a pet. Yet… // This being during a steamy scene just pisses me off even more. You were RAPED. And you continue to not trust him but you’re letting him get you naked and finger you??? And you start thinking about all the women he has been with and that doesn’t make you halt the foreplay??? I’m so fucking lost. This author had so much potential to address something series and it’s just illogical and stupid. Like Kassandra barely has reservations.
- Draven fingering scene. Although this was kinda hot with him loving her taste, WTF. He’s like the worst character and barely any development and again, the rape victim is just like oh neat, he’s fingering me and I love it?
- The begula being a dagger…fucking COME ON. I was so excited that her weapon was uncommon (whip) and then you give the girl the go-to “girl” weapon for her elite weapon form? That’s just sloppy writing. So close and then just fumbled it.
