Secrets in the Attic

Rate this book
Old Mr. Berkshire hasn’t opened his attic in years. So long, in fact, that the door is covered in cobwebs. But why is it locked? To keep people out or to keep something in?

Holly is certain Mr. Berkshire has a mysterious secret hidden away inside, and he doesn’t want it to escape.

When the lonely, old man admits to being haunted by what’s behind that door, and he accidentally lets it free, Holly and Jordan set out to find the ghost from Mr. Berkshire’s attic. No one is allowed to haunt Holly’s friends, and she plans to catch this rude ghost and tell her so.

Finally I read the new CC Warrens new middle grade Secrets in the Attic. I love CC Warrens writing. Even in this short Middle grade it had me invested from beginning to end. I’m so ready for another Holly adult book, but this one held me over. Such a good book and I will sing CC Warrens praises. This book definitely worth the 4.5 star rating. If you haven’t tried CC Warrens books, whatever are you waiting for!!

Holly and Jordan are back for another adventure! This time, while helping out their neighbor with some chores, they begin to think that he may have a ghost living in his attic. After some strange events and talking with their neighbor, they begin to investigate, trying to track down this mysterious "ghost". But what they find may not be a ghost at all but a chance to reunite some old friends.

This is the second book in the Mysteries, Mischief, and Marshmallows children's series and I think I may have liked this one even more than the first one! This one had another great mystery for Holly and Jordan to solve, foreshadowing their working together in the Holly novels. It was cute to get their young perspectives and misunderstandings as they try to figure out what's going on. Like in book one, I really loved the character development with Jordan and how he's been shaped by his own father and Holly's father in different ways. The scenes with Jordan and Holly's dad were my favorite. I'm glad that Jordan had Mr. Cross to rely on. There were a few parts that made me sad, knowing what happens in the future regarding their friendship. Young Jordan is so afraid Holly will go away and my heart just broke for him. All in all, I really loved getting to visit with my favorite characters again and see their character development. The mystery was cute and great for children with little lessons built in as well. I would definitely recommend for kids and adults alike.

Another cute children's book from C.C. Warrens! As a huge fan of her adult series, I have loved these glimpses of Holly and Jordan as children before trauma entered her world. This is the second book in the young Holly series (also known as Mysteries, Mischief and Marshmallows, which is super apropos). I would recommend reading these books in order. Though the story in this one stands alone, it is helpful to have read the first one to understand who Mr. Berkshire is and how his story relates to Holly and Jordan. The familial and friendly relationships also build over the whole arc of the series as well. In this tale, Holly and Jordan become intrigued by Mr. Berkshire's locked attic. When he tells them that he's haunted by what's up there, imaginations run wild as they search for ghosts, which only brings more trouble to our favorite little mischief-maker. I love the innocence of Holly, Gin and Jordan as they have their adventures and I adore how the author weaves a fun story with both adventures and faith lessons that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. I look forward to more in this series and can easily recommend to fans of mysteries of all ages.

Fantastic story weaver!

I have officially read every book C.C. Warrens has written as of this review.
The plots and the characters have become as tangible to me as if they were living just down the street. Mrs Warrens has a way of writing that draws you in and keeps you going because you “just have to know the rest”.
I have never inhaled a collection of books as rapidly as I have every single book by her. From the Holly novels with Marx’s series debut in the middle to The Cherry Creek series to these, the Mysteries, Mischief and Marshmallows series. And am hoping and praying that each set has new novels coming because somehow the characters have become intertwined into my daily routine so much now that i MUST know what happens next for them…. Even though, each of the series did end in such a way as could be considered finalized….
Amazing books. Amazing author. Absolute gold nuggets in word form. You wont regret losing sleep while lost in these books!!

Loved this story as Holly and Jordan set out on another adventure. Holly's imagination is vivid as a nine year old, and she is loyal and protective of Gin and Jordan. I enjoyed the scenes between Jordan and Holly's dad as Holly's dad helped shape Jordan to be the man he would become later on in life. There are differences between how Jordan's dad and Holly's dad interacted with and treated Jordan.
Secrets in the Attic also has valuable lessons, a faith thread, and misunderstandings that need to be cleared up.

wonderful imagination

This book brings out the special relationship that Holly and Jordan had as children. You can already see that Holly will be eccentric.

Didn't love the ghost theme, but the friendship between Holly and Jordan and the relationship Holly's parents and the kids were well done.
