A dead-end job disappears. Unemployment payouts soon to cease, Katie is overcome by anger at life’s circumstances. Nothing and no one to fall back on in tough times.
Until the offer.
They’ll pay her ten thousand. It’ll be like a vacation for thirty days. No complications. No worries.
So Katie agrees.
But things are not as promised. The vacation soon becomes a veritable imprisonment. Too late she realizes they’ll only release her if she succumbs.
Katie’s life forever changes when she agrees to join…
Life is filled with tragedy and Ms. Bale's writing reflects this reality. However, there is always a silver lining...even if one must spend their entire life searching for it.
In her previous career, Ms. Bale traveled the United States as a Government Relations Liaison, working closely with Congressional offices and various government agencies. This experience afforded her a glimpse into the sometimes "not so pretty" reality of the political sphere. Much of this reality and various locations throughout her travels make it into her writing.
She dreams of the day she can return to visit Alaska.
i really enjoyed this book but was soo disappointed when i reached what i thought was a sample so i ordered the book. i was astonished to realize that it ended the way it did. it was very short anyway. But i really love D.A. Bale , just really surprised at the ending. is there going to ne a sequel? On another note when can we read the next book in the Piercing the Darkness series, absolutely loved this set!!!!! thanks for your extraordinary imagination. looking forward to anything else u write. thanks TammyinKY
For 10,000.00 Katherine could easily agree to give up about 30 days of her time to participate in a sleep study. Her definition of “sleep” apparently was not the same as theirs. After some time, she discovers she’s there on their terms.
A novel idea though the ending seemed rushed and had me wondering whether I'd missed something.
