“When I learned to open my life and heart to unexpected possibilities, I found my own happily-ever-after.”
From a very young age, Molly Carter felt like she didn’t belong in High Valley, Montana. In fact, since she was eight years old, Molly wanted a city life. At the first chance she gets, she leaves for the big city and works hard to attain the life she always wanted.
Unfortunately, she overlooked what achieving her dream would cost her.
When she returns to celebrate her mom having a double Thanksgiving wedding with her fiance Shane and her brother, Bryce, with his fiancee, Carrie, Molly feels like she’s a failure. In her drive to accomplish, Molly sidestepped love and a feeling of belonging, leaving her wondering if she really belongs in Atlanta. Is returning an option? Is she a failure if she chooses a career as a rural nurse over her dream job now as a city researcher?
Unbeknownst to her, Troy Clayton, her high school sweetheart, is back in town having bought Bitterroot Ranch and now involved with local business dealings. Can he avoid Molly and Tall Grass Ranch for eight or nine weeks? Will his presence influence Molly’s decision?
“Changing your mind doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It means you’ve grown and changed like we all do.”
I enjoyed: ✔️ the examination of the different kinds of happiness and the reminder that what makes us happy at one point in our life, may change as we mature. ✔️ considering that following our dreams doesn’t always mean following our heart ✔️ the exploration of real security not being found in making money ✔️ the encouragement to unravel and discover what’s truly important ✔️ considering my definition of ‘home’ ✔️ second chances
Despite not reading previous books in this series, I was able to enjoy this uplifting story about the bonds of friendship, family and community as a standalone. I’d consider making time to catch up with the previous three in Jen Gilroy’s backlist. This is the fourth and final title in the Montana Carters miniseries by Harlequin Heartwarming.
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This sweet second chance romance was a great way to return to the Carter family in Montana. If you haven’t read the previous three books in the Montana Carter series, that’s fine. All of them can be read as stand alones, too. The author does a great job of creating an extended family that feels so welcoming. The small town setting of friends and neighbors makes it a place that is fun to read about.
In this story, both Molly and Troy have returned, however, Troy is back to stay and Molly is only in town for a couple of months. It is definitely difficult for both of them, as they had a summer romance right before Molly left for college and she broke Troy’s heart right before leaving. I really felt for both Troy and Molly. They were two people who had been successful and achieved what they had both set out to do, however, they also had trouble realizing that there could be something more important than a goal reached or success achieved.
Both Molly and Troy grew a lot as the book progressed. They both had a lot to think about and a lot of feelings to process. Things from their pasts also impacted decisions they made and once they both faced some of their fears, they were able to move forward together.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
a sweet second-chance romance with the montana carters!
molly's life is in atlanta, just as she planned when she left montana years ago. now, before her new job starts in the new year, she's home to celebrate some big events with her family. of course, she didn't expect to have to face her first love, too... as molly and troy inadvertently cross paths and spend time together, they decide they can temporarily indulge their old feelings, knowing she will soon have to return to atlanta—but love is never quite that easy.
a rancher's return is a heartwarming read. molly and troy have some obstacles to overcome as they rekindle friendship and romance. around their story, there are fun glimpses of the other couples from the series, along with holiday moments and overall country charm.
for readers of heartwarming contemporary romance, this is an enjoyable book.

considerations: —language: none —spice: kisses only —faith: none —content: ranch accidents, mentions of parental loss
Molly Carter is back home in High Valley, Montana for the Christmas holidays before she starts her new job back in Atlanta. When she runs into the one she’s never forgotten, Troy Clayton. A boy back when he worked on their ranch. He turned into a very handsome man. Molly and Troy fell for each other but kept it a secret. She left him and went off to college because it was her dream to leave the ranch. Was it a mistake? It hurt him but Troy moved on and became very successful and is wealthy now. He promised himself that he would succeed to take care of his family after they lost the ranch. Can the two see each other and not bring up the past? They both have matured and changed. Can they get along? Will the hurt resurface and cause problems? Troy is investing in her brother’s new adventure for the ranch. The characters are wonderful. They both had reasons to mistrust but will they let go of the past to move forward to their duty? Molly is now wondering if Atlanta and her new job is where she belongs. The longer she stays in High Valley at the family home, the more she realizes that this is where her heart is. Troy also feels like this town is the home for him too. What will they do? I was rooting for this couple. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily. Thank you Just Read Tours.
I enjoyed the back story and the second chance trope. Molly and Troy had a summer fling many years ago and when they meet again, the sparks fly.
While I really liked the characters, this book lacked enough tension to keep me engaged in the story. I was looking for more drama earlier in the story. Instead, it reads more like a slice of life story. I know many readers will love that aspect.
I also liked catching up with some of the characters in the previous books in the series. I would recommend reading them in order as this story makes a lot of references to the characters from earlier books in the series.
I think fans of clean, sweet romance will find this a wholesome and enjoyable read.
Romance: Squeaky clean

If you like Second Chance romances, a ranchers romance and a small town... this is the one for you!
Molly and Troy have a past. They fell in love one Summer when they were kids , dreaming of a future. With so much uncertainty, Molly was afraid to stay put and not pursue her dreams, so she broke it off. He made it over the years into a total success, as did she as a nurse. They achieved a lot separately... all except love, neither had found it again. When they run into each other again, all the feelings from back then come rushing back! But she's only home for a few months, and he just moved back home for good. Once again, it looks like all they have is borrowed time. And they constantly go back and forth, wondering do they soak up this small moment together, knowing it will have to end? Or do they save themselves the heartache and back away, so their next breakup isn't as painful?
Sweet, sweet story! I felt the chemistry from them from the very beginning I knew their plans to avoid each other wouldn't be possible. They are drawn together, and you can see why. But both have things that happened in their pasts that have them still trying to prove themselves. And while they do that love keeps getting pushed on the back burner. Will they make time for love? Take this risk once again?

Sigh... What a sweet read "A Rancher's Return" was...
I think I fell in love with High Valley, Montana and all her inhabitants.
The extended High Valley family was amazing. The town's people, the Carter family and all the children, and the town itself was perfectly written.
I also loved Molly's and Troy's history together and the back story the author, Jen Gilroy, created. It was so fun reading about a young love that took years and separation to come back around as if time and distance were nothing.
The book takes place from October through December so now was the perfect time to read it. From dressing up for Halloween, to Thanksgiving, to snowstorms, to a tree lighting and Christmas parade, this book was so much fun!
This is the first book I've read by Jen Gilroy, but I've found yet another great new-to-me author. I look forward to reading more stories written by her.
This was a sweet, clean read.
I am very excited and thankful to review this book today!

A RANCHER'S RETURN is a good name for this story where a man comes back to his hometown after making something of himself and finds the girl he once loved is back home for a time as well. It's a story of second chances, family, and romance set in small-town Montana. Recommended to fans of the author and this line of heartwarming romances.
I liked both characters from the beginning as well as the family dynamics. The small-town setting added an extra layer of coziness as well as some fun moments. I like stories where there's a pre-established relationship between the two love interests as that lends a layer of genuineness to the story, so that definitely worked for me here. I liked the goofy side of both of these characters that created some entertainment. There was a sweet dog that I adored and some little kids as well. The romance was sweet with a bit of complexity that ended as expected.
There were also a few things that didn't work for me. Some reactions felt off to me or overdone, such as Molly;s and her family's reaction to Troy when something didn't turn out. Some other things, like Molly being so concerned about anyone knowing she liked Troy or was dating him, and in the same breath complaining about him not including her as she thought he should be, was contradictory and didn't sit well with me. There were some places that felt a bit slow too.
In the end, was it what I wished for? Overall, this was a sweet and heartwarming romance that fans of the series and line of books will enjoy.

A Rancher’s Return is a second-chance-at-love contemporary romance by Jen Gilroy full of hope, humor and heart.
Molly Carter leads a busy life in Atlanta and she’s just returned to High Valley, Montana for a breather at the family ranch before she goes back to the city. Molly had hoped to find some time to rest and recharge, however, she ends up feeling far from relaxed when she learns that her former childhood sweetheart Troy Clayton wants to buy the ranch. Molly knows that she should be furious at her former boyfriend, however, that is proving slightly harder than she had anticipated because she immediately finds herself drawn to him all over again!
Molly thought that her life was in the city. But being back home and spending time with Troy has made her realize that maybe her happy ending has been right under her nose all along. Could Montana be where her heart has always truly resided? Dare she take a chance on a future with Troy at High Valley? Or should she let bygones be bygones and instead focus wholeheartedly on her new life in Atlanta and forget about Troy and High Valley for good?
Jen Gilroy’s A Rancher’s Return is the perfect book to cozy up with in the cold fall/winter months. An emotional and uplifting tale sprinkled with pathos, wit, intensity and drama that will keep readers hooked until the end, A Rancher’s Return is a wholesome, enjoyable and feel-good contemporary romance from Jen Gilroy that is delightful and irresistible.

Molly has become a city girl in Atlanta with the career she had always dreamed of. But the one thing she hasn't found yet is love. So when she heads back to Montana for the holiday's and a double wedding it seems that all she is reminded of, is what she doesn't have. Everyone else has been married, is getting married and most are also well settled with houses and kids. But is that what she wants? When a past love is back, and back for good since he bought a local ranch, Molly isn't sure how she feels about this. Determined to avoid Troy at all costs, she figures it won't be that hard with everything going on the next few weeks. But it seems with every event he has some reason to be there, and it seems others are also trying to push those two together. But no one knows their past and both are afraid to lose the other once again. It was heart ache for both the last time it happened, and maybe it's safe to just stay friends. Love has a way of getting what it wants and so the two must decide if they want to give it a go and possibly have a long distance relationship or do their best to just remain cordial and friends while Molly is back. Being home has Molly really contemplating everything in life, and maybe coming home is just what she needed to find what she really wanted after all. I really enjoy Harlequin Heartwarming books. A Rancher's Return by Jen Gilroy is the latest book that I have read from Harlequin Heartwarming. It is Book 4 Montana Carters series. I have been anxiously awaiting this book release as I have been reading the series from the beginning.
The 2 main characters are Molly Carter and Troy Clayton. Molly and Clayton had a relationship at one time, but Molly moved away from High Valley, Montana after she finished High School. She wanted to achieve the "big life" in Atlanta. She comes home for THANKSGIVING holiday and a Double Wedding. Molly is constantly running into Troy and she isn't sure she really wants to see him. Troy is back in Montana for good. Will there be a spark in Romance with Molly and Troy? Will Molly decide not to go back to the "big City?"
I jumped right into the book and the storyline was great from the beginning. I really enjoyed this book and I think I can it was the best in the series. I really LOVE that Molly and Troy run into each other. Molly was realizing that she may have achieved success, but she was lonely, never having fallen in love after Troy. Troy is also single. I really LOVE when they reconnect and realize that they never fell in love again because they still had feelings for each other. The book is about Second Chances, Life Decisions and honest feelings. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Clean and Heartwarming Romance books! FANTASTIC BOOK!
A Rancher’s Return is a small town second chance romance and the final book in The Montana Carters series, one of my recent favorites! Though this novel can be read as a standalone I would highly recommend reading the series as a whole. This close-knit family is so enjoyable to be around and once you’re done reading you’ll feel like family.
The chemistry between Troy and Molly is palpable, with stolen glances and an attraction that is undeniable. Not to mention the fact that they’re both such great characters individually, but together they’re a dynamic duo. This is a slow burn, which is something I normally love in a clean romance, but I do feel like their story could’ve been sped up just a tad.
Seeing how Troy is with Molly is great but seeing how amazing he is with the children in this novel is positively swoon-worthy and all of the wedding and holiday festivities were my favorite moments. Who doesn’t love all of the gatherings and hullabaloo that happens leading up to a wedding and the holidays?
This was such a sweet series and A Rancher’s Return was the best finale. I’m going to miss the Carters so much and hope that they’ll pop up in a future series sometime.

Welcome to a second chance. I feel like I should say Second Chance Ranch but it’s not! This book is about coming home and finding your second chance.
Molly didn’t want to be a farm girl. She wanted to be in the city. So first chance she gets she leaves the ranch life behind. Along with all the people there. People who care for her and she cares about. But I mean she’ll still visit, she just doesn’t want to live there. Or so she tells herself.
Somehow Molly put everything to the back of achieving her dream. So when she comes home, yes she’s achieved her dream but she’s not truly happy. Not like her mom or brother and their significant others. She’s let love go by the wayside.
But enter Troy. He’s her high school sweetheart and he’s still around the old farm area. Will they get together? Any chance of a happily ever after?
This is part of a series but it does read as a stand-alone novel if you wanted to read that way.

A Rancher’s Return takes us to High Valley, Montana where Molly and Troy bump into each other. Good characters, well developed and likable, these two have a history. But can they have a second chance? Do either of them even fit in High Valley any longer?
I’d love to visit High Valley and get to know the Carter family. They are so tight knit as a family and seem as if they would be great to sit down and have a cup of coffee with. Or maybe go for a horseback ride with them on one of the ranches.
If you enjoy contemporary ranch stories with second chances, healing, family, and lots of horses, do give A Rancher’s Return a read. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
Book 4 in the Montana Carters series, A Rancher’s Return can be read as a standalone. But I highly recommend reading the others. Not only are they good, but the same characters show up throughout the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Molly Carter is torn--between the new research job she's been offered and remaining near her family after coming home to attend not one but two weddings: that of one of her brothers, and her widowed mother. Making matters worse is the presence of neighboring rancher Troy Clayton, whom she loved when they were in high school. Now he's a tech entrepreneur who's purchased the neighboring ranch and struggling to get his life more balanced between work and home/play.
Can he manage that when his mind keeps turning to Molly? Each of them dares not to reveal their feelings for the other. After all, that was all back years earlier when they were teens. Can they now just be friends? Or will that end in heartbreaking ruins again?
I thought this was a sweet second chance at love story. I liked how we saw both of the main characters struggle with finding where they belonged but how they were able to help each other find their place. I liked that they each found their feeling of home. I liked the romance between them and that it took dealing with their past and realizing who they are now in order for them to be together. I also liked that we got to see more of the characters from previous books and saw how they have grown and see how they helped the main characters to follow their hearts.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
