A Lancaster Amish Christmas is a beautiful collection of Christmas Amish Romances. There are four novellas
in this collection written by four well known Authors of Amish fiction.
Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam - Anne Blackburne
A Bird in Hand Christmas - Amy Clipston
Christmas Lilly - Amy Lillard
Leaving Lancaster - Mindy Steele
Each story is filled to the brim with sweet Amish romance and topped off with the Christmas Spirit. All novellas have
happy endings. Amy Clipston shares a Pennsylvania Amish Glossary at her stories beginning. Mindy Steele shares
a recipe for a delicious Christmas jam. If I had to pick a favorite novella from this collection I would be unable to do so because
I loved them all. I choose this collection for my Christmas in July book and it didn’t disappoint this reader! You don’t
have to sit by your fireplace with a warm throw and a cup of hot cocoa to feel the Christmas Spirit when you read this book.
I read this collection in my air conditioned apartment and felt like it was Christmas as the characters celebrated the holidays
I highly recommend this novella collection to readers of Christmas Fiction, Sweet Amish Romance and Christian Fiction.
This book is scheduled to be released on 9/1/24.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are solely my own.

With three Amish authors I enjoy and one new-to-me author in the mix, it was a no-brainer for me to read the A Lancaster Amish Christmas collection. Plus, this officially kicks off my Christmas reading for the season, which makes me very happy. (Side note: I read Christmas books year round because I love them but I begin to do so in earnest around the beginning of September, so this book is right on time!)

The collection kicks off with Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam, a touching story from Anne Blackburne whose books I haven’t yet had the pleasure to read. But I will definitely have her on my ‘to-read’ list from now on because I found her characters layered and engaging. I especially appreciated the inclusion of Lucy’s little sister Millie (whom she’s raising as a daughter) with Down Syndrome and the warm affection that Lucy – and Amos – shower on her. Millie is such a sweetie, and the fact that Amos recognizes her worth & Lucy’s right away endeared him to me just as quickly. The glimpse of the additional issues that go along with a Down’s diagnosis in an Amish person was eye-opening to me, too, and a couple of unexpected conflicts gave the story further dimension.

A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston also melted my heart with a little one, specifically with the precocious and adorable Lukas. He is so stinkin’ cute… and so is his endearing adulation for Wyatt, which of course adds all sorts of delightful tension to the romance since Lukas’ mom Makayla and Wyatt used to be in love. Before she abruptly left a few years ago, got married, became a mother, lost her husband, and got engaged to her late husband’s best friend… Needless to say, a lot has happened since Makayla and Wyatt last saw each other, so it was sweet to watch them get to know one another again. And I enjoyed getting to know them in the process and rooting for their second chance at true love, though I had a difficult time understanding Makayla’s extreme reaction in leaving Wyatt in the first place.

Amy Lillard’s Christmas Lily is a fun forced proximity romance between a struggling single dad widower and his young son’s pretty teacher… two people who get off to a comically bad start before 7yr old Jacob and nature give them a friendly nudge in the right direction. I love snowed-in romances (especially if they happen over Christmas), I love teachers in fiction, and I love single dads who are domestic disasters, so this story was right up my alley! Simon and Lily Kate are great characters with well-defined personalities that draw you right in to their story and keep you invested in their progress toward a happily-ever-after. Not only that, but Lillard’s writing voice is always entertaining, and Christmas Lily is no exception.

The final story of the bunch is Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele, and it centers around a family preparing to move their deer farm from Pennsylvania to Kentucky – an impending life change that motivates some shifts in relationships for the family’s three oldest sisters, Louise, Beth & Leah. Namely, it lights a fire under a couple of young men to finally act on their feelings, and I do so love it when a romance hero is panicked into action. It lets all those repressed emotions begin to surface, which in turn sets free some fun sparks and delivers some swoonworthy moments, and Steele does a wonderful job of capturing those weighted tensions. I also enjoyed that she switches perspectives between Beth and Louise, allowing us to get to know both sisters individually while we’re also getting two sweet romances for the price of one! I wonder if we’ll see Leah again in the author’s future Amish novels – I hope so!

Bottom Line: A Lancaster Amish Christmas is an entertaining and cozy collection of Amish romances with a dose of holiday spirit that makes you want to break out the twinkle lights, hang some pine boughs & berries, and bake lots of yummy cookies. Each novella reflects its author’s unique writing voice, allowing readers to get a nice sampling of whichever author(s) might be new to them, and all the stories feature layered, engaging characters and sweet plots that point to faith, family, and true love. This was a great book to kick off my Christmas reading season, true, but it can also be enjoyed any time of the year with its timeless romances and relatable family dynamics.

I don't know why it took me SO long to pick up this book and read it, but I am so glad I did! I won't share was synopsis since the stories are short and I don't want to give anything away.

Every single story was wonderful!
To be fair, since it was a collection, I'll rate all of them separately:

Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam: 4 stars
This story is incredibly sweet, I just felt it wrapped up quickly near the end. All in all a sweet story.
A Bird in Hand Christmas: 5 stars
The ultimate second chance romance. I loved this story!
Christmas Lily: 5 stars
A snowed in, forced proximity story that just had me binge reading to find out how it ends.
Leaving Lancaster: 5 stars
This story tells the story of more than one romance and I loved BOTH couples stories!

All in all, I want this in print! Thank you netgalley for this early copy. The review wasn't required and it is all my opinion.

Perfect Christmas Reading

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam was a delightful story about loving your family regardless of their challenges. I loved the thought of Millie being God’s little sunbeam. What a joyous way to look at the difference God gave her.

Bird-in-Hand Christmas was a sweet story reminding us we do not know what others are thinking and we should always ask others the truth before believing gossip. More times than not what we think may not be the truth.

Christmas Lily started with a funny kismet that turned into a healing love for everyone.

Leaving Lancaster was the most beautiful love story focused on an entire family. My heart was full by the end of the story.

All four stories felt much longer than a novella and I loved that. Sometimes I think novellas don’t give me all the things I need but these did. I had intended to read a story a day but I just couldn’t put the book down.

A Lancaster Amish Christmas is an anthology with four romances, all set in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. I had read books by three of these authors, but Anne Blackburn was a new one for me.
Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne is the story of Lucy Beiler, who stepped in to raise her little sister, Millie, when her parents died suddenly. Millie has Down's Syndrome and when Lucy's previous beau found out she was going to raise her, he moved on. Lucy is happy living
in the dawdi house on her brother’s farm, but when she runs into the hardware store owner, Amos Fisher, sparks fly. He connects with Millie right away, but is he interested in helping to raise her?
A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston Makayla Hertler is told that her boyfriend, Wyatt was seeing someone else, so she packed up and moved to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, not wanting to remain in Bird-in-Hand and see him with someone else. Makayla marries and has a child and is living a happy life, until her husband is killed in a construction accident. Her son, Lucas, is 5 YO, and she wants him to have a father. When her husband's best friend, Jacob asks her to marry him, she agrees even though she doesn't love him. Her mother writes to her and wants her to bring Lucas home for Christmas. She reluctantly agrees. When she arrives, she finds out that Wyatt is working for her father, and is still single. Lucas bonds immediately with Wyatt and Makayla realizes that she still has feeling for him. Can she break things off with Jacob and try to make a go with Wyatt? Is she getting a second chance at love?
Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard Lily Kate Troyer is the substitute teacher in Lancaster, who is planning to head home to spend Christmas with her family. One of her students, Jacob Bontrager, is trying hard to find a wife for his lonely widower father. Jacob has already fallen in love with Lily Kate, but will his father. When Jacob leaves his mother's scarf at school, Lily Kate knows she should take it to him before heading home. She heads out as a storm builds and she ends up stranded at the Bontrager farm. Lily Kate steps in making meals, building snowmen and even receiving Christmas gifts. Will these two lonely people see the feeling they have for one another and make a family for Jacob?
Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele The Wicky sisters didn’t expect their father to sell their thriving deer farm with plans to move them to Kentucky. Oldest sister, Louise, plans on going with the family to help care for her younger siblings, but wonders what will happen to her growing jam business. Twins Beth and Leah have mixed feelings. Leah thinks she is in love with Connor and wants to stay behind, but only if he asks her to. Beth is always up for an adventure, so is planning to go, until she realizes that she has feelings for Daniel, a local that she worked with. Marcus, is their neighbour, who is in love with Louise and needs to step up before she leaves with her family. With only one Christmas left in Lancaster, can God deliver a Christmas miracle for all three?

I enjoyed all four of these romances. They were all novellas, so we don't get a lot of character development, but all the characters had known each other for years, so it wasn't instalove. The stories are set at Christmas and there is definitely Christmas magic at work, but the Amish don't have huge festive celebrations. Each of these stories is full of faith, love, family and miracles. If you enjoy Amish Fiction, I recommend you pick this one up. Rebecca Gallagher narrated this book and does a very good job with the various character voices. I enjoyed her storytelling, her accents and her expression.

A Lancaster Amish Christmas: Four Romance Novellas by Anne Blackburne, Amy Clipston, Amy Lillard, and Mindy Steele is a sweet collection of novellas that are is filled with sweet Amish romance involving the Christmas Spirit.

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne brought tears to my eyes. When her parents suddenly died, Lucy stepped into the mother role for her infant sister with Down’s Syndrome. But Lucy’s boyfriend wasn’t interested in a readymade family. Living in the dawdi house on her brother’s farm, Lucy is happy with life; until she literally runs into the hardware store owner, Jacob who returns after the death of his brother, and desire for romance returns.

A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston is a second chance story for widowed mother Makayla who leaves her home and returns to her family for Christmas. In leaving she also leaves her fiancée which was her passed husbands business party whom she does not love but wants her son to have a Dat. She discovers the man whom had broke her heart and made her flee in the first place, Wyatt, is still single and working for her father. When her five-year-old son instantly bonds with Wyatt, Makayla starts to hope for a second chance at love.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard is an enemies to more story for the Amish. Lily Kate Troyer moves to Lancaster to be a substitute teacher for a short period of time. She meets Simon when he saves her from being hit by a car, not that she believes she needed to be saved. Seven-year-old Jacob Bontrager is working hard to help his lonely widower father, Simon, find love again. He believes his pretty new teacher who has just moved to the community is perfect, but none of his matchmaking works until a snowstorm hits and strands Lily Kate at Simon's farm; being in forced proximity things begin to shift and Jacob’s wish has a chance of coming true.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele is the story of a large family uprooting themselves to move in order to expand the family deer farm. The Wicky sisters didn’t expect their father to sell their thriving deer farm with plans to move them to Kentucky without their input. Always obedient Louise fears for her growing jam business. Beth cannot wait to start a new adventure while her twin, Leah, is running out of time for a happy-ever-after. They have only one Christmas left in Lancaster, yet G-d is busy delivering Christmas miracles for all three
Anthologies like this offer readers a chance to experience different writing styles and storytelling within a common theme. If you enjoy Amish romance or inspirational fiction, "A Lancaster Amish Christmas" may provide a delightful reading experience with its collection of love stories set against the backdrop of Amish life.

I'm a fan of at least three of these authors, so I knew I would likely enjoy their stories. I love anthology books, and I especially love the ones centered around Christmas, so this one was a win-win-win for me - great authors, more than one story, and Christmas!

Each author takes a unique look at falling in love at Christmas time. Each young Amish woman has a different issue - one is the caregiver for her youngest sister who has Down's Syndrome, one returns to Lancaster after being widowed and reconnects with the boyfriend she thought cheated on her, one is a teacher with a 7-year-old student who wants her for his "Maam", and one has her life upended when her father sells their farm to move the family to Kentucky. Never mind that she - and one of her sisters - just started seriously dating their beaus...

I enjoyed each of these stories. I especially enjoyed that I could read one in a pretty short amount of time, so I got through the entire anthology pretty quickly. If you're like I am and you enjoy Christmas stories, you'll want to add this one to your reading list!

I’ve read all of Amy Clipston’s books so I’m very familiar with her, but I don’t think I’ve read anything by any of the other 3 authors, so it was exciting to discover new Amish storytellers!

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam (Anne Blackburne) — 3.5 stars

I really liked seeing a character with Down’s Syndrome in Amish fiction, and the bond between Millie and Lucy was very sweet. Amos was a good man and I liked that he knew Millie and Lucy were a package deal. This is one of the few Amish books that had a “villain” of sorts from within the community, so that made the story interesting. However, this story has almost nothing to do with Christmas, so that let me down quite a bit. I like seeing the Amish Christmas traditions and while there were a couple mentions of gifts being made, Christmas wasn’t really a focal point of the story.

A Bird-in-Hand-Christmas (Amy Clipston) — 4 stars

Amy Clipston’s story was the one I was most looking forward to reading. I love all of her books and stories! This one was very sweet and cute. I also loved all the Christmassy elements, especially the sleigh ride they took to look at Christmas lights. It sounded so fun! This was a very cute second chance romance. Wyatt and Makayla were well rounded, likable characters. I especially loved Wyatt’s bonding with Makayla’s son Lukas. Lukas was such a sweet little boy. Overall this was an adorable second chance romance. I just love Amy Clipston!

Christmas Lily (Amy Lillard) — 4.5 stars

That was so cute!!! I loved the enemies-to-lovers vibe (which is not something often seen in Amish fiction). The two characters really get under each other’s skin at first and it was really fun to see them interact with each other. I also love snowed in stories, especially when the characters don’t get along. There were so many cute Christmas things too! They baked cookies, made a snowman, played in the snow, and it was so fun and made me want to do all of those wintry things! The little boy was all kinds of cute too. Truly a lovely, feel good Christmas story.

Leaving Lancaster (Mindy Steele) — 3 stars

Definitely my least favorite of the collection. Putting multiple romances in a short story means that none of them were developed well. The family situation was somewhat convoluted and confusing. I did like that the family owned a deer farm. I’ve never heard of that before and it was interesting to read about. While not terribly Christmassy, I did like learning about Second Christmas.

I was well pleased with all four of these romance novellas that left me wishing they were longer as I didn’t want them to end. I know they are supposed to each be a quick read but I enjoyed them so much that I was like more please. I don’t want to elaborate on each one separately as it would spoil them since they are short but I found each compelling for different reasons. I loved that Lucy was raising her Down’s syndrome sister and held out on romance until they could be a package deal. Makayla and Wyatt are an example of how important it is to have open communication so that assumptions and lies don’t cause unnecessary pain and confusion. I loved young Jacob and how he helps his dad find love again. I wanted to be a part of the Wickey family as I found their deer farm fascinating. All in all this is a great collection that gives you that warm fuzzy Christmas feeling. I highly recommend adding to your Christmas reading list as soon as possible. You will be glad you did.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!”
Lucy Beiler paused to listen carefully, hoping for a clue as to where her baby sister, Mildred, was hiding. She’d been solely responsible for Millie’s care since their mother died giving birth to the child on Christmas Day nearly three years before. And while she loved the tiny little girl, a special gift from Gott delivered into her hands even as their maem was delivered into Gott’s, at times Millie’s love of games tested her patience.
“Come on, liebling, we need to go to the hardware store so I can caulk the shower.”
Half an hour later they were exploring Fisher’s Hardware in Bird-in-Hand.
He quirked an eyebrow and grinned back at her. “Ja, didn’t I tell you? I’m Amos Fisher. My family owns Fisher’s Hardware. That’s how I know I won’t get into trouble for spilling the paint. Well, as long as my dat doesn’t find out.”

Makayla flipped through her cookbook and hummed to herself. She needed to decide what to make for supper. She came to the casserole section and found a pizza casserole. She smiled, knowing her five-year-old son would like it. She’d have to check the pantry and see if she and her mother-in-law had all the ingredients she’d need.
Wyatt is still single and is now working for Makayla’s father on the farm.

Amish fiction is one of my favorite genres overall, and I've come to adore these lovely novella collections, especially the Christmas themed ones.

I basically picked this one up because Amy Clipston is one of my very favorite authors, and while I also enjoy Anne Blackburne's tales, the other two authors were new to me, and I was looking forward to giving them a try. This sweet and heartwarming collection was even more than I was hoping for, and it left me with a big smile on my face and happy tears in my eyes.

Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburn:

This was such a delightful story that pulled at the heartstrings and introduced some concepts that I don't often see within Amish fiction. It was wonderful to have a character with Down Syndrome be such a big part of the story, and also an original concept that showcased how the Amish culture deals with crimes outside of involving the local law enforcement. The romance was adorable, and I enjoyed both of the main characters. I loved the emphasis on family and friendship, and how the community all came together to help out in certain situations.

Final Rating: 5/5.

A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston:

Not surprisingly, Amy Clipston's ended up being my favorite of the four, and I truly adored this lovely story that had me glued to the page right from beginning to end. This one was a wonderful second chance romance, and I thought Wyatt and Makayla were both likeable main characters, and had me rooting for them to find their way to happily ever after. I also loved the way that Makayla's young son played such a part in getting them together, and I also loved that this one was probably the most "Christmassy" of all the stories.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard:

The enemies to lovers trope isn't something I typically see in Amish fiction, so that made this story both wonderful and original. The two main characters seem to take an instant dislike to each other and it provided a lovely backdrop to an eventual romance, but also lots of comical bits along the way. I also enjoyed Amy Lillard's writing style, and the emphasis she put on the importance of faith, family and community.

Final Rating: 4.5/5

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele:

I didn't end up enjoying this one quite as much as I did the other three unfortunately. With it being about three sisters and their corresponding stories, it didn't give enough time to develop the story fully within the novella word count. That being said, there were still lots of moments to love within this cute and sweet story, and I did really enjoy Beth especially and her whirlwind romance with someone she never could have suspected. It was also a fun addition that the author chose to include her recipe for Christmas jam at the end, since it played such a big part of the story itself.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Overall, this collection is a delightful and heartwarming treat that I couldn't possibly recommend enough, and I think it's the perfect book to curl up with your favorite hot drink in front of the fireplace this Autumn or Christmas season.

Final Rating: 5/5.

Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne ~ 4 stars

A delightful novella. A sweet story about a little three-year-old girl and her loving sister. And a man who chooses alcohol and seeks to ruin other people's lives while he trashes his own. There are some wunderbar scenes, BUT ... the title of this set is "A LANCASTER Christmas". Lancaster, Pennsylvania is primarily Old Order Amish, and readers assume Old Order unless the author states otherwise. In one scene, a man wants to go look at quilts in the afternoon. He is considering expanding his business to sell them. The problem???? The day is Sunday. I doubt even the progressive Amish would even suggest doing that. In this case, looking at quilts equals business. Sadly, that wasn't the only scene that did not fit Old Order Amish. The story itself is enjoyable and I loved reading it.

A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston ~ 4 stars

Again, remember the title "A Lancaster Christmas". I found the lead female's name, Makayla, to sorta sound Hawaiian. But after a bit of research, in Hebrew, it means "who resembles God?" You will enjoy this novella as much as "Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam". Engaging characters. Nothing left hanging at the end. But ... please authors writing Amish stories, if your characters need more "freedom", please, please, PLEASE indicate they are not Old Order. Zippers!!!! Old Order do NOT use zippers. Zippers are hochmut, proud, not "plain". Again, the story is lovely but errors like this jump out at me. It stops the flow of the story.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard ~ 4 stars

I loved seven-year-old Jacob Bontrager's character. He thinks his new teacher is perfect. A perfect teacher and would be perfect as his new mamm. It's a cute story. My problem is a key plot development. What happens when the teacher ends up spending several days at their house? Despite a good reason. BUT nothing is said or done by the bishop and ministers. And there certainly would be. This novella didn't grab me and keep me reading like the previous two. You'll still enjoy it, I think.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steel ~ 5 stars

The last novella started a tiny bit slow for me; but, it just got better and better. No errors involving Amish doing something they wouldn't do. Let's just say the move to Kentucky wakes up some semi-plodding young men. And two sisters. By the way, there is a recipe at the end for Christmas Jam called "Winter's Delight." It would not be that hard to make.

All four novellas are an enjoyable read. A wonderful, I should say wunderbar. read for Christmas. And despite the issues found, I recommend this tetralogy (not a 'quadalogy'). Tetra is Greek meaning 'four'.

A LANCASTER AMISH CHRISTMAS is the compilation of four fabulous FIVE STAR novellas. Each novella is a complete and satisfying story that will touch your heart and will put your mind into the Christmas season. The underlying faith thread in each will give you reason to pause and to remember the important things in life.

LUCY’S CHRISTMAS SUNBEAM by Anne Blackburne is the story of Lucy Beiler, who was thrust into the position of being the parent of a newborn little girl with Down’s Syndrome when her mamm died after giving birth to her sister Millie. When her daed died, that responsibility increased. Lucy, in her heart and mind, is Millie’s mamm. When it meant choosing between her sister or her fiancé, the choice was easy and made with love. Is it possible that there is a man out there that is willing to accept them both? Dare she open her heart up again with the chance of being hurt?

A BIRD-IN-HAND CHRISTMAS by Amy Clipston is the story Makayla and Wyatt. Taking the word of another as truth had Makayla leaving Bird-in-Hand ending what she had hoped would be her happily ever after and crushed Wyatt. Makayla married and had a son – Luke. When widowed, she comes back at Christmas to visit her family. Her intentions of avoiding Wyatt were foiled when she finds out he is working for her father. Luke becomes Wyatt’s shadow on the ranch. Is it possible what Lucy had been told was wrong? Did her insecurities play a part in it? Is it possible there is hope for a second chance?

CHRISTMAS LILY by Amy Lillard is the story of Lily Kate Troyer – substitute school teacher, Simon Bontrager - farmer, and Jacob - Simon’s 7-year-old match making son. When all Jacob’s efforts seem to be missing their mark, a sudden and unexpected snow storm prevent Lily Kate from leaving town may be the answer to his prayers. Is it possible that Lily Kate and Simon find what they didn’t realize they were looking for?

LEAVING LANCASTER by Mindy Steele is the story of preparing to move the Wickey family to Kentucky in order to allow their deer farm to grow. The problem is the Wickey sisters, Beth, Leah and Louise seem to have hopes for other plans. Dare they break up the family unit and stay? Leah is hoping for the words she’s longed to hear come? Beth is all for adventure, but is that in Kentucky? Louise, who thinks of herself as precise, not picky, loves the home she’s grown up in and her jam business that’s become a thriving business. What will happen is she has to leave it all or is there a way she may not have to? Could her future lay as close as what she’s had eyesight on her whole life? Who will leave and who will stay?

A Lancaster Amish Christmas
4 Romance Novellas
by Anne Blackburne; Amy Clipston; Amy Lillard; Mindy Steele

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Ann Blackburne

Lucy is Surrogate mom to her younger sister, mildred. Lucy and Mildred‘s mom died in childbirth, and Lucy assumed the role of caregiver of Mildred, who has down syndrome. Lucy‘s fiancé refused to have anything to do with the child And left them. Lucy had given up all hope of marriage and a family until Amos came into the picture.

As the story progresses, we see the evils of the spoken word, in the form of gossip. We also see how God can make lemonade, out of lemons.

Ms. Blackburne tells a great story around realistic characters. And as always leaves us wishing for more. She is a wonderful author.

A Bird-in-the -hand Christmas by Amy Clipston

Makayla fled from her hometown years ago with a broken heart. She now as a widow and had a son. She was going home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but would return after Christmas to marry her husband’s best friend.

This story is well written, and brings home the point that we should depend on God for answers to our problems and never make a decision without asking his guidance. It is possible for God to offer second chances.

The story is well written and you will love the realistic characters. Mahayana and Wyatt are great, but her son, Lucas, steals the show.

Ms. Clipston writes a wonderful story, and keeps you turning the pages.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard

Such a cute Christmas miracle story. Lily Kate had come to town to be the substitute teacher. She just needed to get away from home.

She really had no idea she would be thrown together with her student Jacob and his widow dad for a surprise Christmas.

Simon, Lily Kaye and Jacob are such adorable characters. Each one so unique they add their own special flavor to the story. As the storyline develops you can’t help but see God’s hand in events.

Ms. Lillard tells a really good story. You can’t wait to read the next page.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steel

Again, we have a wonderful story, Leaving Lancaster, from Mindy Steele, who tells the best stories ever.

The Wicky family is moving to Kentucky and two of the girls are made keenly aware of what they might be leaving behind. We follow them as the family prepares to spend one final Christmas in Lancaster.

The characters are perfectly described and makes them very realistic.

The plot and storyline moves smoothly and keeps you wishing for more.

As in all of Ms. Steele’s stories, the perfect life plan is accomplished by following God’s plan for our lives.

This collection is 5-stars all the way. Thank you Barbour publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this wonderful Christmas collection. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Amish romances are my favorite, and when you add Christmas, it makes them so much more magical. This collection features four novellas, each with a unique approach to the stories. In 𝓛𝓾𝓬𝔂’𝓼 𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓶𝓪𝓼 𝓢𝓾𝓷𝓫𝓮𝓪𝓶 by Anne Blackburne, Lucy takes on the mother role for her infant sister with Down’s Syndrome following the death of her parents. This was a special approach to a Christmas story, and I thoroughly enjoyed every part. When Amos, the local hardware store owner, enters the picture, it makes your heart melt. There was a bit of suspense with Lucy’s ex-boyfriend, who had left her because he didn’t want an instant family. Just a great read!

Amy Clipston wrote 𝓐 𝓑𝓲𝓻𝓭-𝓲𝓷-𝓗𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓶𝓪𝓼. Widowed and returning home for Christmas, Makayla discovers her ex-boyfriend Wyatt working for her father, and as her son quickly bonds with him, she begins to hope for a second chance at love. All the misunderstandings in this one! I could relate to Makayla and her quick reactions to things, so I understood how she ended up where she was in her life. The ending on this one was so great!

In 𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓶𝓪𝓼 𝓛𝓲𝓵𝔂 by Amy Lillard, seven-year-old Jacob Bontrager's attempts to match his widowed father with the new schoolteacher seem to fail until a snowstorm unexpectedly brings her to their farm, making him wonder if fate is finally on his side. This one was my favorite of the group. I jumped up and down and clapped my hands in several spots. Lily Kate, Jacob’s new schoolteacher, and his father, Simon, had a falling out almost as soon as she arrived in town, so it was fun to see this story unravel.

The last story was 𝓛𝓮𝓪𝓿𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓛𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 by Mindy Steele. The Wicky sisters face an unexpected move from their beloved deer farm to Kentucky, each grappling with their dreams and uncertainties as they hope for a Christmas miracle in their final holiday together in Lancaster. This was a different approach to a romance novel. Instead of the usual male and female points of view, the story was told from the perspectives of two female characters, so you have two romances in one. This did not work for me, especially in novella format. Just as you were getting into a storyline on one of the main characters you were interrupted by the other love story. Overall, this story also had too many characters. I could not keep up with the secondary characters and was flipping through trying to remember who each of them was. About halfway through the story, I gave up and just ignored the secondary characters. If there were fewer characters to keep up with and each of the love stories were independent, I think I would have enjoyed this story much more.

Overall, I thought this was a great book that certainly captured the Christmas spirit!

Thank you Barbour Publishing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

5 stars, Delightful

A LANCASTER AMISH CHRISTMAS: 4 ROMANCE NOVELLAS
by Anne Blackburne

This delightful collection of novellas are just the thing to put you in the mood for Christmas, no matter the actual time of the year.

LUCY'S CHRISTMAS SUNBEAM by Anne Blackburne

Lucy Beiler, age 21 is raising her baby sister Millie, age 2. They have lots of other, older siblings, but Lucy feels called to raise her precious sister.

Amos Fisher, age 28 and his family own a local hardware store. He's busy working in their store and visiting with the customers.

I like the believable way these two loving Amish people come together against all odds. This is a novella, but you feel like you are there experiencing their lives with them.

A favorite quote: ...she's one of Gott's (God's) special sunbeams...

A BIRD-IN-HAND CHRISTMAS by Amy Clipson

Makayla, a widow and her five-year-old son Lukas are getting ready for Makayla's marriage to Thomas, the business partner and best friend of her deceased husband Markus. Makayla doesn't love him, but she believes the feelings will develop, with them spending the rest of their lives together. But, there are exceptions.

Wyatt Mast is Makayla's first love, but they split up years ago and Makayla doesn't want to revisit the past with him.

Makayla and Lukas travel to her childhood home to visit her parents for Christmas. All kinds of things are likely to happen.

CHRISTMAS LILY by Amy Lillard

Lily Kate Troyer moves to a new town to become their fill-in school teacher for a few months.

Jacob Bontrager is enamored with his new teacher. He just has to convince his father Simon that she is someone special.

Simon Bontrager is a widower and knows that he needs to remarry for his son's well-being. He simply can't bring himself to meet new women and find one that he likes.

Cute quote: ...the sassy jaywalker...

LEAVING LANCASTER by Mindy Steele

Louise Wickey , age 25, a single woman who lives at home, and has a jam and jelly business. Her parents have sold the family farm and are moving and would like all of the children to go also.

Daniel Fisher, a single young man who has had his eye on Louise for many years, which is convenient since she lives right next door.

Memorable quote: ...had so many spices in it, I had to drink two cups of milk to make it go away.

Highly recommend.

Thanks to netgallery for the chance to review the ARC for a Lancaster Amish Christmas.
2 guilty pleasures in one. My super soft spot for Amish romance and Christmas mixed together 😍
This book consists of 4 stories written by 4 well known authors and each of these stories were sweet and had beautiful moments.

Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburn
This sweet story brought many tears to my eyes. Lucy raising her sweet Downs syndrome sister after her mamm died during labour. Jacob returning after the death of his brother.
This story has a few interesting moments that I had never read in my many Amish stories, which was a nice surprise. This story is a reminder of God's plan for us. My favourite quote in this story is "she suddenly felt optimism flood her soul and knew that Gott was so very gut, and With him, anything at all was possible"

A Bird-In-Hand-Christmas by Amy Clipson
Widowed mother Makayla leaves her home and returns to her family for Christmas. In leaving she also leaves her fiancee which was her passed husbands business party whom she does not love but wants her son to have a Dat. She returns to her family home and the man whom had broke her heart and made her flee in the first place.
There were so many moments to love in this book. Heartbreak, meddling mothers, hope, new best friends and my favourite being a man who connects with a child on a delightful level bring all kinds of feels. Fabulous story.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard
This lovely story is an enemies to more story for the Amish. In this story Lily Kate moves to Lancaster to be a relief teacher for a short period of time, she meets Simon when he saves her from being hit by a car, not that she believes she needed to be saved!
Simon is a widow raising his son Jacob, Jacob is praying for a new mamm. Things take a turn when a snow storm hits and strands Lily Kate at Simon's farm, being in forced proximity things start to shift.
This story was fantastic and fresh.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele
This is the story of a large family uprooting themselves to shift counties so the family deer farm can expand. In this story we see several stories running which gets a little confusing at times with so many names! In saying this there are some lovely moments in this story
"family is life and safety. It can also be an adventure"
"he was a master of tricks, and with each new touch, with each new compliment, he was ruining all her plans"
"there were moments in life when a woman had to make bug decisions. Sometimes they were scary, often times easy, and sometimes they changed the course of everything"

A Lancaster Amish Christmas 4 Romance Novellas
A Lancaster Amish Christmas is four sweet stories by four well known authors of Amish fiction. They all take place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I love the Amish romance stories and the extras: a recipe, a glossary
Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam -- Anne Blackburne
Lucy is the sister of an infant with Down’s Syndrome. When her parents died suddenly, she stepped into the role of motherhood. Her boyfriend wasn’t ready to be a father, so he bowed out of the relationship. She and her sister live in the Dawdy house on her brother’s farm.
This is such a sweet story; the bond between Millie and Lucy is heartwarming. Amos knew to love Lucy also meant he must love Millie. While this story takes place at Christmas time Christmas is not the main theme. The best part of this story is discovering how the Amish Community feels about children with disabilities and how they deal with crimes without involving the local law enforcement.
A Bird-In-Hand Christmas -- Amy Clipston
When Makala discovered her boyfriend Wyatt was seeing another girl she moved to a different community and married. After the death of her husband, she returned to her parent’s home for a Christmas. Wyatt is still single and working for her father. Her five-year-old son and Wyatt quickly become friends. Could she and Wyatt have a second chance at love?
This heartwarming tale is very Christmasy, there are Christmas Lights, sleigh rides as well as a Christmas romance. The characters are likeable, especially Lukas.
Christmas Lily -- Amy Lillard
Jakob Bontrager’s father is a widower. The seven-year-old wants his father to be happy and is trying his hand at matchmaking. Jakob has decided his new teacher, a nice and pretty young woman would make a fine wife and mother. But so far, his matchmaking attempts have not been successful. A snowstorm leaves Lily Kat Troyer stranded at the Bontrager’s farm. Could God have a hand in bringing two people together?
How sweet, a young boy matchmaking for his father. Lily and Jakob’s dad didn’t hit it off at first. They didn’t really like each other. When they were snowed in it forced them to get to know each other.
Leaving Lancaster --Mindy Steele
This story is a bit confusing. In Leaving Lancaster we meet the three Wicky sisters and we read each ones story. Their father owns a successful deer farm but he’s decided to sell it and move to Kentucky. Beth is looking forward to an exciting adventure. Louisa is concerned about her thriving jam business. For Leah it could mean a broken hear.

I absolutely loved this book! Reading during a sweltering hot summer made it even better for this Christmas and book loving reader. Each novella is wonderfully written starting with Anne Blackburne's, Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam. In her story we are introduced to Lucy, a young woman who has stepped into the role of mother to her younger sister who has Down's Syndrome after their parents pass away suddenly. Lucy cares for the child as if she was her own and lovingly finds way to communicate with her. Lucy has a boyfriend who does not want a ready-made family but when Lucy meets the local hardware store owner her life might just go in a direction she didn't expect. This is a heartwarming story of family ties, love, and finding happiness when you least expect it.

Amy Clipston's novella is a very heartwarming story of a second chance at love. When it was told to Makayla that her boyfriend is seeing someone else, she moves away and marries and has a son. When her husband dies, she decides to go home for Christmas after years of staying to help her mother-in-law.
Makayla wasn't expecting to see her old beau Wyatt working for her father on their farm and she really didn't' expect her son to take such a quick liking to him. Could there be a chance for love these two?
This a very sweet story of misunderstandings and finding the truth.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard is a wonderful story. What is a little boy to do when he is trying to play matchmaker for his dad? Jacob Bontrager knows his dad has been lonely since his wife passed away and wants to help so when he decides his teacher might just be the one he sees Katie as a strong contender. When his plans continue to fall through it might just be that a snowstorm could work its magic along with divine intervention.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele has three sisters in quite a stir when their father decides to sell their profitable deer farm and move them to Kentucky! One sister likes adventure, another is running out of time to find love, another is worried about her jam making business that is taking off and another might just leave behind a broken heart. This one will keep you busy right up to the end discovering what happens with each sister.

I received an advanced review copy of this book from Barbour Publishing through Net Galley and was under no obligation to post a review.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW ON MY BLOG: https://bookreadingtic.com/2024/09/17... AND PLEASE FOLLOW ME, THANK YOU!

Merry Amish Christmas!

Enjoy four Amish stories that take place during Christmas time.

The first tale is, "Lucy's Christmas Sunbeam." Lucy, although young, took over raising her infant sister, Millie, after her parent's deaths. Millie has Down's Syndrome, and because of that, Lucy's boyfriend dropped her like a hot rock. She hasn't thought of romance since. Lucy loves Millie more than anything else, but now someone is trying to take her away. Perhaps Jacob, the new owner of the hardware store, can help Lucy.

The second book, "A-Bird-in-Hand Christmas," features a young widow, Makayla, and her small son, Luke. They are spending the holidays with her parents; the first time Luke has gotten to do that. As soon as they arrive, Makayla runs into her former boyfriend, Wyatt. He broke her heart years ago when Wyatt began dating someone else. Now, he is working for her parents, and wants to worm his way back into her life. Makayla will not let him, despite Luke loving Wyatt.

"Christmas Lily," is the third installment. Little Jacob would like a mom for Christmas, specifically, his new teacher. But his dad, and the teacher, Lily, have not gotten off to a good start. In fact, Lily doesn't want anything to do with him. But then a Christmas snowstorm threatens to strand her with Jacob and his dad.

In "Leaving Lancaster," out-of-the-blue, their father announced he had sold their home. They will all move hundreds of miles away. Louise has a thriving business, and is worried about being successful in the new location. Leah doesn't want to leave her long-time boyfriend--who has never gotten around to proposing to her. The sisters feel that they have no choice but to follow their father's plans. But both are filled with dread about this move.

All four of these stories make a nice Christmas escape. They are clean, charming tales that will bring a smile to your face. This five-star book is just the thing to bring in the Christmas spirit for Amish fans, and everyone else.

Thank you, Barbour Books, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review.

All 4 stories were sweet Amish novellas centered around Christmas and wintertime in the Amish communities. I have read most of Amy Clipston’s books and a few Mindy Steele and have loved all that I have read. This is the first sampling I have read from Anne Blackburne and Amy Lillard.

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne
I really loved the bond between Millie and Lucy. Even though Millie had health issues, Amos knew they were a “package deal” and didn’t shy away from the responsibility of helping Lucy with Millie every chance he could. Christmas was not a strong theme in the story.

A Bird-in-Hand-Christmas by Amy Clipston
I love the second chance romance trope and all the Christmas in this story-especially the sleigh ride! Widow Makayla and her son, Lukas, visit her parents for Christmas. Wyatt is still single and is now working for Makayla’s father on the farm. Wyatt takes Lukas under his wing and they form a fast friendship. The bond between the two was truly special. All of the characters were very likable and well rounded.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard
This one was my favorite of the 4 stories! Lily Kate is the new teacher in town. Simon Bontrager is still grieving his wife. Lily Kate and Simon have a few unpleasant run-ins, but Simon’s son, Jacob thinks that his pretty new teacher is perfect. After a little matchmaking and huge snowstorm, Jacob’s matchmaking might just be working. There are so many cute Christmasy moments in this story-baking cookies, playing in the snow and building a snowman. I loved the enemies-to-lovers trope in this one!

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele
This one was somewhat hard for me to follow with multiple love stories. Beth, Leah and Louise’s father has sold the family deer farm to Marcus, the neighbor next door and they are moving to Kentucky. Louise is sad to leave her jam business and the farm she has always loved, but Marcus has suddenly caught her eye. Beth is excited for a new adventure, but will her adventure lead her to Kentucky with her family or keep her in Pennsylvania? Leah is heartbroken, and has to come to terms with her breakup and listen to God’s plan for her. The story was wintery but not very Christmasy. I wish each sister’s story could have been a little more developed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy. All opinions are my own.

Great Combo

This is such a great combination of stories written by some wonderful authors! Each story shares the themes of Christmas, romance, and faith. However, that's as far as the common thread goes. Each explores those themes in a different and unique way.

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne
This story is such a unique blend of themes. Aside from the romance and faith, it has a little touch of intrigue thrown in. It also includes a sweet and very special child who adds a very important element to Lucy and Amos's story. It is an incredibly sweet and endearing story.

A Bird-in-Hand Christmas by Amy Clipston
Assumptions are never good, are rarely accurate, and their repercussions often carry a great price. Such is the case for Makayla and Wyatt. How they recover from it all is a beautiful story of second chances, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard
I've often thought that child psychology is more about what the child does to impact the behaviors of adults. And I fully believe that little Jacob Bontrager is a master of it. His innocent and well-meaning meddling was just the right push to get Simon, his father, and Lily, his teacher, on the right track. That special touch made this enemies-to-more an exceptionally sweet story.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele
What do you do when the future you thought you had gets thrown out the window? Such is the case for the Wicky sisters. Their parents' announcement of a move to a new state has just totally rocked their world. It's also done the same for a few others who realize that keeping their thoughts to themselves was not a good thing, and time is running out. As the moving day approaches, Louise, Leah, and Beth begin to see things they had missed that were there all the time. The result is an endearing friends to more story that is sure to touch your heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

I enjoy Amish fiction, and this collection contains some of my favorite authors. And I love reading Christmas stories anytime of the year, So this is a perfect combination. Topics include tragedy, friendship, and love. Readers will be hoping for a Christmas miracle in each story.

Lucy’s Christmas Sunbeam by Anne Blackburne: I really enjoy the fact that there was a character with Down Syndrome, as it is not often seen in Amish fiction. There is a nice balance of lighthearted to serious moments. While there is a minimal amount pertaining to Christmas in the story, I did enjoy mentions of Amish Christmas traditions.

A Bird-in-Hand-Christmas by Amy Clipston: This story was full of Christmas elements. The sleigh ride to look at Christmas lights sounded delightful! If you are a fan of second-chance romances, this is one you will likely enjoy.

Christmas Lily by Amy Lillard: This is an enemies-to-lovers story, which is not often seen in Amish fiction. Interactions between the main characters is fun to read. A number of Christmas related plot points add to the charm, such as making cookies and building snowmen. It may make readers long for the chance to do this, too.

Leaving Lancaster by Mindy Steele: This story felt a bit less developed than the other ones, as there are multiple romance lines and a few confusing plot points. I grew up near a deer farm, so I really appreciated that part of the story.

If you're looking for a nice collection of sweet Amish romances, this is one to add to your TBR list, as you can't help but root for the characters in each story.
