Life is weird. One day, you’re in the garden, tending your tulips and growing your flower farm business, and the next, your doctor is handing you a prescription for synthetic blood and signing you up for vampire support groups.

Hi, I’m Piper Edwards, and I’m pre-vampiric. Here are a few things I didn’t know a month cute guy who visits my flower stall at the farmer’s market every week is a vampire. And he’s not so cute. He’s a stalker. Vampires have a lot of food options. If you don’t like prescription synthetic blood, there are subscription services that will deliver exotic animal blood to your doorstep every week. Organic, free-range, wild-caught—the options are endless. The government requires all infected individuals to be assigned to a conservator. Mostly, they hang around to help their pre-vamps learn the ropes and navigate their new diet. But if you’re a really lucky pre-vamp, your conservator will be a wicked-hot, recently demoted hunter who will hold your hand at doctor’s appointments and track down your stalker, bodyguard style.
In case you’re not sure, I got lucky. My conservator’s name is Noah, and this is our story…

When your bookstabesties tell you to read a book, you read the book. For real, I had to be sold on vampires, but sell me they did—and I am SO GLAD. This story was a riot. Banter, flirting, suspense, and fun the whole way through. I am so ready for the next one in the series!

Short answer: I had a blast. The banter had me shaking with laughter. The twists were a perfect delight. 🤣

Longer rambling:

This is the third book in as many weeks that I’ve read with a MMC named Noah. 😂 No offense to the name, but when your little bro shares the name… yeah, it gets a little trippy on the romance front. I’m going to need to start reading blurbs to check for character names over the few weeks to catch a break, LOL.

Part of why I enjoyed this book so much was of the environment I read it in—picture this. You’re at a family reunion for the day with people you haven’t seen in 15+ years, half of whom don’t even recognize you because you’re not 10 and dorky (okay, maybe still the last part). Chronic illness & a dead social battery catches up with you, so you (& your pasty vampiric skin) retreat from the broiling hot outside to the broiling hot truck to lay down and then get to offered your great aunt’s bed in the cabin to chill out on. So, your girl obviously went inside, read banger of a book, and listened to two great aunts and uncles have dinner & discuss the outrageous price of potato salad in Safeway, the appropriate levels of doneness when cooking steak, and why you never salt your meat until after you cook it for *moisture* reasons.

Yeah. This book will always make me remember that time. 🤣🤣🤣

Content: some innuendo; strong attraction/desire (little more than my personal preference)

p.s. the audiobook is a DREAM! 🥰😂

Ms. Tapscott is an auto-buy author for me, I didn't even bother reading the synopsis before diving into this one. Which made this extra fun because I wasn't sure where things were going. I ended up really enjoying this one and spent Thanksgiving evening curled up next to my Christmas tree reading the night away.

I really loved the new take on vampires and the new mythology around them. I liked the characters a lot, the romance was good (slow-burn!) and set up for future books. I did think the stalker aspect could have been played up a bit more, but overall I thought this was a really fun and entertaining read. If you like Urban Fantasy you'll definitely want to give this one a try!

Blood and Buttercups is a fresh take on vampires. This book was nothing like what I was expecting. I absolutely loved this book. Urban fantasy is not my usual genre, but I’ll read anything that Tapscott writes. This book deals with some heavy situations, but manages to keep a lighter, fun feel. Be ready to have a goofy grin on your face because of Noah and Piper‘s banter. I really enjoyed all the side characters too!
Blood and Buttercups is fast paced with swoony romance and a touch of suspense. The ending leaves me so so so excited for the next book!

*Reread to prepare for publication of Book 2. Loved it again! Some of the best banter I have EVER read. Excellent, funny writing.*

4.5 stars

Plot- The plot was great! I was completely engrossed. However, I was very disappointed by how quickly the climax happened, after all the great lead up. It was all way too easy. They escaped easily, the stalker was subdued off-page, and there was no angst or drama. I’m taking half a star off for the wimpy ending and waffling on whether I’ll round down or up. I mean, I LOVED every minute of this book, even deciding I wanted to add it to my all-time faves and buy myself a hard copy, right up to the weak climax. Now I’m not so sure. But truly, 92% of the book NAILED it… and the ending wasn’t BAD, it was just… not difficult, not scary, not earned.

Writing The writing was fabulous! The banter was some of the best I have ever read. Honestly, it was deliciously funny! I would say that the banter, resulting sky-high sexual tension, and the engaging plot carried this book!
The only time in the entire book that I felt the writing was juvenile was when the FMC started asking silly questions in the middle of the interrogation, following the climax. That misplaced silliness pulled me out of the book. Besides that one instance, every interaction and scene was written with perfect execution.

“We need to talk about sleeping arrangements,” he says.
I narrow my eyes. “I sleep here, and you sleep in your parents’ basement like the cool guy you are. Moving on.”

“You want to get the flowers out of the back?”
“You mean the flowers that cost as much as a security system?”
I bring my finger to my lips. “Shhh. The hired help doesn’t get opinions.”

“Favorite zoo animal?”
“Starting with the really important questions, I see.”
“Instead, you could tell me about your deepest, darkest fear and how you plan to overcome it.”
“I like monkeys.”

Characters- The FMC was delightfully witty and relatable. She was quick to smile and respond to Noah’s flirting, and she was smart enough to obey the trained fighters when they told her to stay back.
The love interest was a fabulous balance of broody/mysterious/hard to get and flirty.
I highly recommend the two short bonus scenes from Noah’s POV available via the author’s newsletter. So good!

The side characters were okay. Ethan wasn’t as villainous or as competent as I had hoped he’d be (I wanted him to be a worthy opponent for Noah and Cassian but he wasn’t), Cassian started out being aloof, dangerous and powerful but kinda turned soft, and Olivia giggled too much. But that’s just nit picky for a book that was SO ENTERTAINING!

Romance- Chemistry was high! Again, they had AMAZING banter. Very swoony!

Content-
Language- no swearing
Spice- clean. some kissing. The characters have high morals.
Cover- good
POV- single POV
Cliffhanger- yes, but not painful. I’m super excited to read book 2, so that makes me realize it deserves to be rounded up!
Format- KU

How I rated the series-
Book 1 - Blood & Buttercups - 4.5 stars
Book 2 - Vampires & Violas- 5 stars
Book 3 - Hunters & Hydrangeas - 3.5 stars

Cute new series

This was such a fun take on vampirism! The main character, Piper, becomes infected with some sort of vampire virus that makes her pre-vampiric (sort of like pre-diabetic) which means she has some stereotypical vampire symptoms, but not all and to a lesser degree. I just kind of love that it was treated as a medical condition. You still get some of the more classic angsty mentally unstable vampire stuff, but it's not treated as sexy which I whole heartedly approve of. If there were a handsome, rich, seemingly kind and doting vampire that started basically stalking you SHOULD be creeped out. Being handsome, rich, charming, and immortal shouldn't give you a free pass!! Haha, anyway...

I really liked the characters, both main and side. They felt realistic and lovable, which I appreciate in a cozier sort of story like this one. Piper is a vegetarian flower farmer, which I just found to be a fun contrast to a typical vampire book heroine. I'm not exactly sure what genre it would classify as, maybe a "sweet" paranormal/urban (maybe more like a town) fantasy romance? Whatever it was, it was fun.

At first, I couldn't decide whether to give this 4 or 5 stars, but I was so surprised by the little twist at the end that I probably should have seen coming but didn't expect at all that I decided to bump it up to 5.

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When reading a series I always wait until all of the books are out to actually start the reading process. Always. Or so I thought. I was planning to wait until the last book in this series was available. Novels by @shariltapscott are my weakness, however, and I gave into impulse. I’m so glad I did but I’m also devastated. Now I have to wait for answers. 😭

Tapscott’s characters are always top notch. I love the banter and the romance is the best. Situations can be dire and still have the perfect sprinkling of humor. Piper and Noah are a great duo with amazing chemistry and hilarious banter. Their scenes together always left me wanting more. The side characters had me wanting to know more about them. Cassian, Olivia, and Max added so much to the story. The stalker was a creepy character and I can’t wait to learn more of his and other backstories.

On to the story. This is one part of three, meaning there is much more to come. As a start, Blood and Buttercups was an entertaining and sweet story. It was a bit cozy and has a strong plot incoming. There is promise of sooo much more romance and danger. Honestly, I’m so excited to continue the trilogy. Just a few more months. 😭

Such a delightfully quirky and fun read! Hilarious banter, swoon worthy romance, and an entirely unique approach to vampires. I just loved every minute of it.

This is one of my favorite authors and always an automatic read for me. Every book is clean (which is so hard to find in combination with it being enjoyable to read) and has the perfect blend of humor, action, and romance.

Fantasy is by far my favorite genre to read and because it’s a total escape from reality you don’t tend to question characters reactions to encounters with non-humans. However in this story Piper is not the least bit excited to have to deal with the reality of what it means to be a vampire, in fact she’s completely freaked out by all of it. When you think about it though, that’s the reaction that any of us would have. It was refreshing to find a story where she’s not enthralled by the dark and mysterious vampire.

There’s so many things I want to say about the story but I try my hardest to not give away any spoilers, even tiny ones. I’ll just say that this was a perfect light and fun fantasy read and the beginning of what promises to be a highly entertaining series. How can you expect anything less from a series titled A Vampire’s Guide to Gardening. I’m really looking forward to the next book!

Loved it!

The mystery, the vampire lore, the flower gardening, it all was so good!

I loved Piper and Noah. Noah is the big grumpy bodyguard and I adore his protectiveness, meanwhile Piper is feminine and I love that she embraced it and doesn't turn into some kick butt girl. it's so nice to have an FMC who is purely feminine and doesn't desire to change to become a great warrior. She's awesome.

Very excited for the next book.

This book was AMAZING!! I finished it in less than 24 hours because it was SO HARD to put down! The characters have so much chemistry, and there were so many things going on at all times! I laughed so many times, but my heart also skipped a few beats here and there. I just absolutely ADORED this entire story, and I'm already dying for the next book!

CLIFFHANGER?! *SCREAMS INTO PILLOW*
Though I am thankful that its a baby cliffhanger. The main plot points are wrapped up.

And this was an amazing book. I love the blend of vampirism being a medical thing while also still having lore and princes, and castles and what not.

But sheesh! I cant wait until MARCH!

This review is mostly me complaining.

I don’t think I’m spoiling the story when I say the main character Piper gets a very unexpected bite from her date. Understandably, she’s upset and runs away from him. But incomprehensibly, she doesn’t report this assault to the police. She thinks about it. But she somehow believes that the police will laugh at her bite. I don’t know why she thinks this way. If a stranger came up to me and bit me hard enough to draw blood I would absolutely make a police report while checking myself into the ER. What if this clearly crazy person assaults someone else? What if he has HIV or any communicable disease?

Piper just wants to go home and disinfect the wound. Just imagine. Going home to put neosporin on your rabies bite. The fact that she immediately starts feeling unwell and vomiting doesn’t prompt her to go to see the dr either. She attributes her reaction to bad food, which may be somewhat reasonable-ish for a week…but A MONTH?? That’s willfully dumb and doesn’t make sense for any average brained person.

Well. Next she’s told about her pre vampiric condition and that she needs a conservator named Montgomery who will show up at her house to give her more info. At the specified time, her somewhat-friend Noah shows up at the door and Piper is panicked that the two will meet. She sends a text to Montgomery and a second later Noah reads a text on his phone. He replies to his text, and a second later Piper gets a text on her phone from Montgomery. Now, we already know from the synopsis that Noah is her conservator. But I think any person of average brain or better would say, “Did you just get the text I sent? If not - wow, what a timing coincidence! You…wouldn’t be Montgomery, would you, Noah?” The incredible thing is, Noah doesn’t bother explaining. He plays into her misunderstanding for the campy humor it’s supposed to bring the story…

I can’t enjoy a story when there so much that bugs me. Unfinished.

Also, please report physical assaults on yourselves. At the very least, go to the hospital immediately, especially for a bite.

4.5 Stars! =D

Look, I have been eyeing this book up and down since the day it was announced when I saw that gorgeous cover. I have heard great things about Tapscott’s writing in the past and thought this would be the perfect book to pick up. (especially since I’m on my urban fantasy kick right now). And it did not disappoint! This was a super cute, cozy vampire romance. I burst out laughing more than once. Cassian is my favorite character, no questions asked. I really liked how the author had the element of a vegetarian who is self-employed in the flower business. It was something I don’t think I have ever seen before, and made this book sooo good.

Well...

The book offered a lighthearted reading experience with several genuinely amusing moments. While entertaining to some degree, the overall narrative lacked substantial or memorable qualities that would elevate it beyond a casual, forgettable read. The comedic elements provided some entertainment, but the book did not leave a lasting impression or stand out as a particularly remarkable work. At this moment, I'm seriously on the fence about reading the next installment of this book series.

I’m not gonna lie, this book was addicting! It was so hard to put down. It had a super unique take on vampires, and I loved the banter!

But the innuendos! Oh boy, there was so many, and the kissing /near kissing was steamy, and this is only book 1. So that’s why the three stars. Well plus it felt like Noah and Piper’s relationship was mainly focused on physical attraction.

The rest I loved. Super interesting worldbuilding and plot.

Content: steamy kissing, innuendos galore, some violence, nothing gory

Picked this one up on a whim and absolutely loved it! It was an interesting premise- flower gardener turned vampire- and featured a swoony romantic lead. The action/mystery of it combined with the romance kept me hooked. I did guess the twist at the end, but I'm still excited to read book 2 and see where we go from here!

Different in A Good Way

I enjoyed this one way more than I thought. I got a little annoyed because the FMC is constantly talking about how hot every guy she meets is but other than that character flaw she’s pretty good. The story itself is fun and intriguing, a different take on vampires.

I have not literally laughed out loud with a book in a long time! Noah and Piper have the quick wit I wish I was blessed with. The original story was a fun read. Great pace kept it moving, answering some questions and opening up so many more. Clean language, some swoony kisses all kept very PG-13, and an ending that has me thinking book two cannot come soon enough!!!

First the heroin is bitten and then she jokes about vampires but at the same time doesn’t realize what happened to her. All this world with a vampiria b infection was not well introduce for me.
Then there’s Noah. It’s so obvious what he hides from her…
And finally Ethan who is supposed to be the bad guy but I felt sorry for him more than anything.
Ah! And when Piper explains what happened to her brother Max who immediately call her best friend Olivia…
The only thing that made me want to read the following book is the revelation made by Noah at the end of the book but I hope I will find a good spoiler instead!

Reader’s Notes:

-this is the first in a series & needs to be read in order

-this is told from Piper’s point of view

-Piper is unwillingly bit by a vampire; due to this she has to drink a prescription of blood (synthetic) & (in the beginning) eat steak (she is a vegetarian prior to this)

-there is some violence (mainly defending themselves from attacks using guns/stakes; the few mentions are brief)

-some it is mentioned that the characters make noises during some kisses (moans/groans)

Review:

This was such an interesting take on doing vampires! I loved the explanations on how the different aspects of being a vampire came into how things worked and how everything specifically ended up applying to Piper and her way of life. I loved the reactions to certain characters discovering that vampires are real. 😂 I also loved how vampirism was handled in this world, it added to the disbelief Piper was trying to hold onto and the fun for the reader. I can’t wait to find out what will happen with Piper & Noah in the coming books and where this journey will take them!

Summary:

People have horrible dates all the time, but can any of them claim that their date was a vampire who bit them thinking they wanted to be with them forever?

Piper is a flower farmer who loves her job of blooming flowers and selling them at her stall in the local market. But after she had the misfortune of getting bit by her apparently vampiric date, she has to figure out a new way of getting what she loves done. It doesn’t help that said date is now stalking her in hopes of convincing her to ditch her mandated conservator who’s showing her the ropes of being pre-vampiric in favor of joining him. Though Piper supposes it helps that her new conservator is a handsome guy who is bent on also doubling as her bodyguard against the guy who bit her.

But with their growing feelings for each other and the clues to her stalker’s identity coming to light, things are certainly more complicated than either of them could have expected…

Overall, this was a really great book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I debated between giving it 4 or 5 stars, but that had more to do with my personal preferences than the quality of the book itself. The writing, plot, and characters were all excellent—my hesitation was mainly because the themes (especially the vampire aspect) aren't usually my favorite.

That said, I loved the plot and the characters. I was suspicious of the main villain from the beginning, and I was so happy when my suspicions turned out to be right! The romance was really well done—clean but still intense, which was a refreshing balance. And the banter? Absolutely incredible. I was laughing out loud so often I think I might have worried my family a bit!

The FMC (female main character) did make some questionable decisions early on that had me internally yelling "why?!" before anything even went wrong, which was a little frustrating. Still, I liked her as a character overall. She's not a fighter—she never really saves herself in a physical, sword-wielding kind of way—but she’s strong in other, quieter ways, which I really appreciated.

I also really enjoyed the unique take on vampires and the creative way turning was handled. It brought something fresh to a trope I usually avoid.

Final thoughts: I ended up giving it 5 stars because, while it’s not totally my kind of book (I don’t usually enjoy vampire stories), it was so well done that I couldn't justify rating it lower. I only picked it up because I’ve read other books by the author—and I’m so glad I did. I’ll definitely be recommending this one.

a new take on vampires

It took me a moment to get into the story but I’m glad I did! It’s a new take on vampires and I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s well written and I can’t explain how happy I am about the location in the book. I grew up in the Glenwood Springs “valley” my home town being New Castle. And the mention of Strawberry Days was amazing! Strawberry Days is a 3 day festival held during Father’s Day weekend Friday-Sunday, lots of amazing booths, music, and food. The first day they have a parade and the last day they have a Father’s Day breakfast which usually is pancakes with strawberries and ice cream topped with strawberries. I no longer live there but my grandparents still do so I go there a lot and I wish to be able to afford a house there at some point, to be able to raise my own kids in the town I grew up in going to the schools I went to. And I know everyone will wonder why there was no theater in Glenwood, there used to be one located in the old mall that unfortunately is becoming very worn down but we would have to go to a town between Carbondale and Basalt where the theater is if we wanted to see a movie. But I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to visit to go in the summer between May-July, visit the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, Iron Mountain Hot Springs or the Glenwood Springs HotSprings Pool, the Iconic Glenwood Hotel that’s “haunted”, they also have amazing restaurants downtown located around Main Street near the bridge.

I just loved his book!!

First I really enjoyed how the whole vampires in the real world was explained in this one. It was really unique, interesting, humorous, and in some ways, and I say this loosely, almost realistic. You just have to read it to find out why😉

It was full of so much humour and I was laughing constantly throughout. Not only was it in the banter though, no it was in the writing style, the inner monologue it was just so good!

Their was action, suspense, and it was never boring or slow. It's fast-paced, but not rushed. I was hooked from the start and didn't want to put it down!

The romance was witty, sweet, swoony, and I love their relationship! They are so cute and got the whole grumpy/sunshine vibes going on! I am here for it and can't wait to see where it goes from here.

It has amazing side characters! I'm a sucker for side characters and this one has plenty and with their own amazing personalities 🤭 I love it.

Small cliff hanger at the end and I kind of need the next one now!!! But have to wait😭
