This book follows the younger days of Warren Stone as he recounts the story of his life. He’s a cowboy who’s been hardened by trials as a child and even more with the aftermath of an accident. Through his story, he discovers what it means to wrestle with God, find love, seek forgiveness, and realize people and circumstances aren’t always what they seem.
This is such a wonderful story filled with deeper themes and messages, faith elements, grit, and love. This was my 3rd book by T. Bell, and I believe this is her best book yet.
I loved how equine therapy was incorporated, how relatable the characters were, and the romance between Mildred and Warren… T. Bell knows how to write chemistry and banter!
This book also made me laugh out loud so many times; there are so many hilarious moments. I loved the three friends and cowboys, the 10-year-old with spunk, and the demon pig, Hammond.
T. Bell is a great storyteller and shows the realistic ways in which characters navigate hardship and pain. I’ve never been in an accident like the one portrayed in this book, but I could deeply relate to Warren with my own struggles, and I think many others will be able to as well.
If you are a fan of T.I. Lowe, stories with deeper themes, faith elements, a beautiful romance, and great side characters… you will love this book!💕
Content Discretions: No spice (kisses only), struggles w/ alcohol, bar fight, bull riding accident, 5-6 uses of the H word, threats, death of a parent, dementia
Quotes from the book: “Life is bigger than the picture that God lets you see because if we could see it all, we wouldn’t learn the lessons we need to.”
“Bravery was learning to face the things you couldn’t change head-on, even if you made mistakes during the battle.”
“It’s funny how sometimes the worst parts of our lives are how God leads us to the best.”
“We must rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance.”
Why do T. Bell's books ALWAYS make me cry? She packs so much emotion into her books that there's always a little bit of a book hangover when you're done with them.
Warren is the quintessential cowboy, who has known more than his share of hardships.
Mildred is a cowboy's daughter, holding everything together.
In this book that's a little reminiscent of Louis L'Amour's writing, the journeys Warren and Mildred's lives take them on will stick with you for a long time.
Caveat: there is some mild language in this book.
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.~
This is not a perfect book, but like it was a perfect book, ya know? The male protagonist has sooo many flaws and is stubborn as all get out, but I enjoyed his POV and I think the author retained the feeling that a story is being told. A story within a story if you will, and what a story this was!
This has a ton of grit, that I was totally there for because when it softened it was such a reward. Warren's character arc was really good. This man was changed. This was the most cowboy, cowboy romance I have ever read.
I thought the faith content was okay. My only complaint is that it felt a bit forced toward the end. I'm super picky about faith content in fiction though. The ending was great and made me feel like I left these characters in the past. I think it had the effect the author was going for. Ask me if I cried like a baby? I did.
In this book: male protagonist, broken cowboy, grumpy x sunshine, animosity to more, off-limits, forced proximity, found family, 1950s western aesthetic
Content guide: romance = clean; language = minor & infrequent; violence = mildly described; faith = light amount
Warren + Mildred I’m wondering how I put into words how I feel about this book? I’ve read every T Bell book and I honestly don’t know how she does it but once again she has blown me away. Warren is a broken man physically & emotionally. He can’t get his Angel with the gray eyes out of his mind after his accident. He goes to work at Haven Ranch and is met with those eyes from his dreams. I was ripped apart and put back together and loved every minute of this story. This one runs so DEEP. She has a way of pulling you in and not letting go until the last page. Thank you for gifting me with this ARC!
This is a he falls first cowboy romance with found family & faith themes. This is Book 1 in the Stone Haven Ranch series. This book will have a surprise release date but there is a special edition you can pre-order now! I can’t wait to get my hands on mine!
—Quotes ✨Heat soaked into my skin, and if I had been standing there for any other reason, it might have been peaceful. But it’s hard to find peace when you’re always on the edge of crumbling. ✨But I couldn’t give her this—not because I didn’t want to. I did, but this was the only way I knew how to save her. And I wanted that more. I wanted to save her, even though it meant doing something that would kill me inside. ✨I didn’t dare look up. I might’ve been able to deny being a coward anywhere else, but right there—with her— that’s exactly what I was. ✨I’m a selfish man, Mildred, but for you—I’d do just about anything.” ✨I think I used that stick as more of a shield than anything. I felt safe with it in my hand. It was the realities that I had to face without it that scared me. ✨She reached up, tucking the hair behind her ear, a soft smile on her lips. And I marveled at the way a man could survive with his heart outside his chest. ✨Sometimes, it’s about calling out to God in our hardest moments so that he can be the light that shines us to our best.”

She has out done her self!! This book was well written, thought out and developed. I absolutely loved all the characters. Bell did a great job tying biblical truths into a beautiful story of forgiveness, grace and a testament of true love. I definitely recommend adding this one to your TBR along with a box of tissues. This is one that’s going to stick with you for years.
Thank you T.Bell for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tearjerker! Every book T Bell writes is so real and raw and relatable! She doesn’t shy away from the pain and sacrifice that comes with loving someone with your whole self. Another fabulous heart wrenching and heartwarming story.
T Bell always writes the best stories. If you love stories of redemption with sweet romance her books are for you. More than dirt is no different. Warren is flawed but you can’t help but love his story. I also love the western theme of this book. This is a story of hope and love. Warren is telling his story to his grandson so he knows why his history. Warren is stuck in a place he doesn’t want to be with people who aren’t fond of him. Or are they??? Unwanted places are the best places for God to work. Read this book!
Another amazing book, every time I read one of T Bell’s books I say it is my favorite. This one definitely is my favorite. The story is what I remember life like as a kid when my grandmother and great grandmother would tell stories of their life when they were younger. The book was hard to put down(took me a long time to read because of holidays) and it left me wanting more stories about Stone Haven Ranch. Great book!!
I went into this blind from TikTok and while I wasn't expecting the amount of religiousness within (which had I taken 2 seconds to read about the book or the author I wouldn't have been taken aback) I really enjoy the story.
I wouldn't have picked it up if I had known about it but I would have missed out on a really good love story and a story about people that feel real, flawed, sick, and human.
T. Bell has a way with words. This book hits home for me. Makes me smile, makes me laugh, all while crying. I love how she incorporated REAL life struggles and tied them to her faith in the lord. 100/10 my favorite author
What a lovely book! This story definitely pulled at my heart strings bringing back memories of growing up on my grandparents farm. The idea of a grandpa sitting down to tell his grandson all of this warmed my soul.
