Ummmffff... I haaaaaate to DNF Nyla's books. But I think I have had enough here.

I think I will leave this one in January. Look. Like I said in my update, maybe I just don't get it and that's fine, this book will appeal to other audiences and be received fantastically.
I hated them both. I low key disliked Tate from Push. Now I also really don't like Lance. He broke Tate's heart and soul and stamped on his ego for good measure 15 years ago and now he is back to claim him as his with his D. And he gets it done.
Everything is so unrealistic, OTT, the whole book so far has been this schematic on repeat:
Meet - dick down - one of them runs - inner monologue for chapters on end - some flash backs - chase/pine - repeat.
I got bored. I know it's a HEA. But Nyla can do loads better as evidenced by her other 5 star work.
(The spice was HAWT - the car scene as always, perfection). Everything else - not so much.

Wow!!! Tate and Lance have completely captured my heart. Their epic story of second chances, forgiveness, and undeniable love is such a beautiful story that I could not put down. Tate and Lance go on quite a journey in their story with moments ranging from complete love and adoration then complete shock and surprise.
At times I was not quite sure if these two would survive their complicated past and present, but their devotion to one another never ceased. Such a powerful story that I could not get enough of and cannot wait to see more from these two complicated and lovable characters. I could not get enough of their hilarious banter, obvious chemistry, and strong primal desire for one another. Such a beautifully intense read that I could not get enough of it.

It just wasn’t holding my interest. I wanted to keep reading, so I could figure out the end, but I’m not that strong. I skipped to the end to find out if I was right, and I was. Also I LOVE when the word baby is used as a term of endearment in books. Like it’s my kryptonite, but I didn’t like how much it was used here. That’s all.
PS: I just read the trigger warnings. I went in blind, so I could be surprised, so I wasn’t aware of what they said. My point is, she left a whole lot of triggers out. So anyway.
PS X2: So maybe I wasn’t right with the plot twist?? I was close but whatever. Too much is going on!!!!

My second foray into this author and overall, it was really good.
It took me a bit to really get into Lance and Tate together, but once I did I was in it with these two.
The sex was so well done in this. Just like with For the Fans, the sex lived up to this author's standards for me. Like whew, I needed a fan after reading those goodies. (Although, towards the end I do think there was becoming a bit too much after almost 600 pages so I did skim about two of their sex scenes at the end)
The story kept me invested. And yes, there is Lance cheating on his wife with Tate in this. And he does it without knowing the shit she herself pulled. Like yeah, we find out that she's pretty terrible herself, and she can fuck right off, so in the end I didn't feel too bad about the cheating, but before that these two are going at it like bunnies whenever they meet up, so they're pretty shitty people for a long while.
But the forbidden nature of it all was of course so hot.
But if you draw the line even at the MC's cheating with each other, do not read this. I saw another review getting angry about that and I had to laugh, because it's in the blurb that Lance has a wife...and in the CW on her site...like you had all the warning in the world, so don't get mad at the book you willingly picked up knowing it had cheating in it. The no-cheating tag is, of course, for these two not cheating on each other.
I think, overall, this book did a great job of building these two and their connection, and makes you want to root for them.
I saw others hating Lance, but I didn't. Yeah, both he and Tate make shitty decisions, but I knew going into it that he would.
And funnily enough, Lance actually had the most natural and understandable reaction to the reason he left Tate all those years ago in college in the first place.
Like...they are apparently . So why WOULDN'T Lance react that way? Like yeah, keeping a secret was wrong to do, I think. But also understandable for where he was at, how young he was, how scared he was of ruining things. The burden for this secret shouldn't have been on him. Also, he owned up to how he treated Tate as well. He never tried to deflect or make excuses for his behavior. That goes a long way in helping to forgive him for making a wrong choice.
Although, after 15 years he basically came to the conclusion he didn't care and was going to was probably the most fucked up thing he did, in my opinion. Although Tate doesn't even get mad at him for that, but...Tate should have had that choice too. So at the very least, when they met up 15 years later, Lance should have told him what he knew before they did anything together.
This also did fall prey to the "holding onto the secret way too long" thing, which I personally don't altogether like that much. It made sense for a time, but Lance had several instances where he could have said it - even with Tate trying to change the subject - and he chose not to. It was all just to save it for the dramatic climax and I just think it should have been revealed much earlier, and then had them deal with the fallout from then on. Have them both decide "fuck it" and continue on anyway. I mean, they do do that ultimately, but it was a very fast choice on Tate's part shoved in near the end.
Like they still could have found out the second twist near the end, and that could have been a dramatic reveal for then. And then they'd could deal with the fallout of finding out and how to wrap their heads around that after going so long thinking they were. I mean, Lance has to deal with that, but not Tate because he didn't have to think they were for long.
Also, it didn't make much sense to me why Lance's mother wouldn't tell him the truth his whole life. Like...okay, .
I mean, all the parents except Tate's mother sucked. Especially the father, but also Lance's mother, and I feel like they shouldn't have been given a second chance. Or at least, YEARS should have gone by before either of them started to try to forgive them. Idk, what they did was so supremely shitty that that doesn't deserve forgiveness almost right away. I mean, Tate doesn't really, but Lance does pretty quick...and idk, I didn't like it. Yeah they're "still your parents" and all, but they still need to face real consequences for their actions.
I dunno, I think the ultimate climax and the fallout wasn't something I was too fond of. Hence my star off. I think if it had been executed better, I would have given this book 5 stars. But after a pretty solid like...85% of this book, I just didn't like the the climax, mainly. Also it finally starting to feel too long at that point, especially once the dust settled, that's when I skimmed a few of their sex scenes.
But this book gets a solid 4 stars for almost the whole rest of the book. It was sufficiently juicy, sexy and entertaining. Their chemistry was very, very good. It kept me engaged and in the story for practically the whole book. I did enjoy their HEA at the very, very end as well. It was very sweet.
It was just about...10ish% that I was not happy with. (Also, while this book did a good job of not trying to lecture or sermon at you with the religious stuff, Lance continues on as a religious...preacher or something like that on social media and he has this inner monologue that felt very lecture/sermon like and soap-boxy. It was very short so it is a very, very small part of my star off. But I was like...why are we getting all lecuture-y all the sudden? My eyes started to gloss over. Like it felt like a preacher - no mater how progressive and modern and open-minded - trying to get me to believe in God or have some belief in a higher power so I was like...mm, no thank you, I don't like this whole page or two)
So yeah, overall, a great book. Definitely a solid outing from this author, and that definitely means I'll give her more chances in the future.
It just could have had a much better climax and fall out, in my opinion.
Otherwise I enjoyed the fucked up characters and their fucked up decisions and their hot as fuck sex.
Can't wait for my next read by this author!

This was a 600 pages long disaster and I should have just stopped reading after the first 50 pages but here we are.
Cheating is just a hard no for me. Makes the whole story and the love feel icky.
And the audacity of Lance was unmatched. What a poor excuse of a man. It gets a bit better at the end but wow, did I hated him.
Don’t even get me started on the sex talk because that was just nasty and cringe. I actually had to laugh out loud because it was so bad.
But at the end I’m crying in 600 pages of it.
I actually skipped a lot of the sex scenes because I just couldn’t with them but still: I’ve read enough. And I wish I didn’t.
And I’m not even talking about the plot twist. I refuse.
The one star is for the two times I actually had to laugh additionally to the (horrendous) sex scenes and because I can’t give zero.
My conclusion: I’m not gonna read another book of that author ever again. We just don’t vibe.

Тут було дуже багато нелогічних речей, я так і не зрозуміла для чого було Ленса робити одруженим при тому що він гей
Вплітати сюди Дезіре, вона мене максимально бісила хоча вона була ніяка по характеру, щей куча фігні натворила
Батьки Ленса вони теж максимально токсичні, я навіть виправдовувати їх не хочу

2 stars because... i don't like tate. and not because he was a key player in the cheating fiasco, but more like he was so comedic/humorous when the majority of his scenes were dramatic and serious. his personality cheapens this supposed-to-be painful story. i can't take him seriously. and because i didn't liked him, i didn't swooned for both of the mcs. so major red flag right there. i can imagine tate and lance in a fucking comedy sitcom where theres a tape of laughter from the audience. or in a like a marvel movie. cringe overall.
as for the twist, it was definitely a roller coaster. if the said twist, however, was the main theme of this book, i'm singing a different song for sure. i still love nyla k though.

I’m done with this shit! DNF @35%. This book makes no sense. The drama is shallow and forced , the motivation behind the MC’s behaviour is nowhere to be found, the inner monologues were so long winded, exhausting, boring, repetitive and pointless I ended up skipping through a lot of them, the dialogue was stilted and hollow (if there was any dialogue at all) and there was no consistency in Lance’s character. Like at all. This guy was flat as pancake, toxic AF and a giant walking talking red flag. No redeeming qualities. No real connection with Tate. Good premise but really poor execution. I’m really sad cause this had such a great potential and ended up being one giant letdown.

This book is AWFUL. It’s soooo long for absolutely no reason and I hate everyone in this book. It’s over 600 pages of a buildup to a big (and terrible) reveal only for it to be ret-conned making this entire book pointless. Tate and Lance are two guys in their mid-30s acting like they’re 20. Why not just make them 20? Why do they do and say the most childish immature things the entire book.
Also, I LOVE - no joke - when book characters use the word ‘baby’ as a term of endearment but good lord is it overused here. I mean multiple times in the same scene by both characters. Too much of anything is a bad thing. I was so disappointed by this book tbh because I loved ‘For The Fans’ but this was so underwhelming.
Throughout this whole book I just couldn’t understand why they loved each other so much. The entire book is a lot of them telling us how much Lance and Tate love each other without showing any of the reasons why. There is truly no chemistry between these two characters outside of the bedroom, and even that is a stretch.

THIS BOOK IS SO PRO INCEST ITS WEIRD. I cannot believe that them being brothers is the twist. I know that it ends up not being the case but it doesn’t matter tbh. There’s a whole sex scene of them roleplaying still being brothers because it turned them on that much. Ew.
The fact that they and everyone around them is just like “well love is love”. No. No, love is not love when you’re related! Are you trying to tell me that Tate doesn’t need some time apart after finding out he’s in love with his brother??????? What? Lance is so messed up for keeping this to himself for so long. Lance literally slept with his ‘brother’ multiple times to get Tate to fall in love with him thus making it harder for him to leave when the truth came out. Do you not see how fucking manipulative that is?
Lance is a TERRIBLE person. We’re supposed to feel bad that he has trouble lying when that’s literally all he’s been doing to every character in this book. And I feel bad for his wife! I know she ends up not being the best but that doesn’t change the fact that he lied and cheated for so long. And the gaslighting???? Sir? That scene was awful. The way he tried to convince Des that she was crazy. I hate him. He’s the worst.

Like I said, this whole book is a buildup to a reveal that is taken back relatively quickly. There’s no point. The dialogue is cringy, the characters are annoying, the romance is non existent, and the ending is boring.

There is truly no chemistry between these two characters outside of the bedroom, and even that is a stretch.

THIS BOOK IS SO PRO INCEST ITS WEIRD. I cannot believe that them being brothers is the twist. I know that it ends up not being the case but it doesn’t matter tbh. There’s a whole sex scene of them roleplaying still being brothers because it turned them on that much. Ew.
The fact that they and everyone around them is just like “well love is love”. No. No, love is not love when you’re related! Are you trying to tell me that Tate doesn’t need some time apart after finding out he’s in love with his brother??????? What? Lance is so messed up for keeping this to himself for so long. Lance literally slept with his ‘brother’ multiple times to get Tate to fall in love with him thus making it harder for him to leave when the truth came out. Do you not see how fucking manipulative that is?
Lance is a TERRIBLE person. We’re supposed to feel bad that he has trouble lying when that’s literally all he’s been doing to every character in this book. And I feel bad for his wife! I know she ends up not being the best but that doesn’t change the fact that he lied and cheated for so long. And the gaslighting???? Sir? That scene was awful. The way he tried to convince Des that she was crazy. I hate him. He’s the worst.

Tate and Lance were everything!!! This book had me swooning like crazy and also panting like a dog in heat 🤣 This was a second chance romance done incredibly well. It hit all of the marks! High steam, lots of pining, and romance that will fill you with butterflies! These two characters were developed beautifully. Total opposites, but they fit perfectly together. This book was long (about 620 pages) but I hardly felt it. The pacing was on point. This story grabbed my attention and refused to let me go until I was done. There was so much going on in this story. Things I least expected! I was shook at some of the things that were revealed! I read this book in 2 days and abandoned all responsibilities. This is for sure a top read of 2023 for me. Nyla K is one my fave MM writers! Her writing and storytelling abilities are unmatched. I highly highly recommend you read “Trouble” and the other books in Nyla’s catalog.

This was a bloated story with unlikable characters.
Tate is a successful finance dude, but despite everyone implying that he's the smartest man around, his entire personality was based on getting f*cked. Where was this intelligence? On the floor?
Lance is actually the worst character. He treats his wife with indifference and cheats on her. His excuses for getting with her and staying with her don't make sense to me. His being a pastor doesn't make sense to me. He jerks Tate around constantly in his attempt to figure his life out...eating his cake and having it, too. It just doesn't make sense to me. Any of it. It's giving me a complex. Am I making any sense? Probably not.
Other things:
1. the "twist" is messy and makes Lance into an even bigger jerk and seem so f*cking immature for a 35-year-old
2. the sex scenes are overwhelming in their occurrence and I understand it's two people finally sharing their passion for one another, but after a while it became less erotic and more of a chore...and I have a headache tonight, honey
3. if you're going to have a dog in a book, at least make him have a personality...it's said that Sunny is a wild boy, but is his wildness just in being a voyeur?
4. maybe it's me, but the use of "baby" made me gag towards the middle of the book and the Trouble/Sunshine nicknames made me sigh. It's just too much.
5. so many daddy issues and not fun ones, either
The best parts of this book revolve around the characters from Push/Pull: Ben, Ryan, and Jess. Their appearance was nice, but the rest of the story was not great.

Nyla K. Is truly a versatile author, every book I’ve read from her has been distinct. Trouble is high heat with some angst and a few morally ambiguous themes. It tells the story of two men who’ve loved each other but can’t be together giving this delicious tension to the whole tale.
Only Lance has an idea of the why and they are wrenched apart quite suddenly, pining and broken and then living numbed and adrift until 15 years later chance sets them back in each others path.
Tate and Lance are both amazing and strong characters and the author creates an intimacy with them opening up their inner thoughts without judgement - their defensiveness and their vulnerabilities and their love laid bare. Their chemistry is off the charts hot, they are pulled together unable to keep their hands off each other and they are propelled into fighting for their HEA.
The first half of the story is just phenomenal where the author takes us back and forth in timelines, chemistry layered in angst as these two reconnect, with Lance unwilling to let go of this second chance.
I think for me it breaks down a bit in the second half, I started struggling with their motivations and also a bit of their dithering, by this time you are quite aware of the twist that is coming up, the author leaves enough hints for you to pick up and I was very keen to see how it would play out. I felt disappointed in how it did and then the continuation sort of ratified that for me. I also think the characters worked well in isolation but I couldn’t really reconcile their inability to see their impact on the secondary characters not only key points in the story like Lance’s marriage (from the relationship itself to the reveals they definitely added to the layers of the Lance and Tate’s story but it never became personal or emotional) but also in smaller things for example like how the twist is revealed by Lance who is now in his thirties and aware of how this would impact not just who he considered the wrong doer but everyone else.
I’m still very much a fan of the author’s work though and am very happy having read the story.

Okay idk whether to rate this 4 or 5 ⭐️ cause it’s firmly somewhere in the middle I’m just not sure where.

Ugh, swoon.
I went into this not expecting to like it to be entirely honest. I wasn’t a big fan of Push and so I thought this would be similar, even though I’ve liked some of Nyla’s other books. But I absolutely ATE THIS UP. I found it almost un-put-down-able, and that’s even considering the multiple and extensive typos (seriously, this will never not irk the shit out of me. Edit your shit!!!!!) But I just didn’t care about it because this book was so funny, so hot, and so enthralling. I truly had no idea what the fuck was going on half the time but it was very fun for me to be along the ride and find out. And what a ride it was. Looking back on this, SOOOO much stuff happens. It’s actually wild.
TW: absolutely do not read if cheating (not between MCs) icks you out. It is v heavy on the cheating.
Also, I’ve figured out that Nyla K writes books like musicals. There’s a part I and a part II after intermission. Because the books always feels done about half way through and then you get slammed with a whole second act you didn’t know was coming. I was initially perplexed by how long this was, but all in all it makes sense. The involvement of part II of the story makes sense when you consider all the fucking crazy reveals (I won’t spoil). It is a bit wordy and a bit long and drawn out in parts, but again, I didn’t really care because I liked the characters so much that I actually enjoyed what they had to say.
This book made me LOVE Tate. In Push I think I found him to be vapid and annoying, which he kinda was, but this gave him SO much life and character without completing rewriting him to be a different person. He is pretty much everything I love in a character. A bit traumatised (lmao sorry Tate), closed off, but secretly wants to be loved. Snarky, sarcastic and so, so funny. Like seriously, he’s SO funny. Tate’s banter is outta control and I loved it. I wanna be just like him when I grow up.
And WOWWWWWW. Lance? LANCE?! The pastor is NASTYYYYYY. I didn’t see that one coming tbh. It was a little bit jarring in the beginning, to see him say and do the things he does. He’s pretty 0 to 100 tbh… I mean 🥵🔥 but as the story progresses and you find out more it all makes sense in the end. I also just fucking LOVE religious themes where the religious person does things they most assuredly are not supposed to as a person of god or whatever else bullshit, and boy does this deliver on that front. So. Many. Scenes. Bonus points if they desecrate the house of god. Yum.
And the church pew scene? Say less 🙏🏼
There is soooooooo much voyeurism in this book so if you’re not into that don’t bother lmao, basically all the smut at least has the threat of being exposed in some way. One of my personal faves was the elevator scene:
“I’m so desperate for you, Sunshine…” he whimpers. “I want your big cock in my ass right here. I don’t care who sees.”
“Well, that’s good.” I rip open the lube with my teeth, pouring it onto my hand. Peeking up into the corner, I stuff my wet fingers between his cheeks and rasp, “Say hi to security.” Tate is dazed, panting and quaking as he waves at the camera.

On a slightly unrelated note THE DINNER SCENE. WITH THE WIFE. AND THE FOLLOWING SEX SCENE. MADE ME SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I ALMOST DIED.

To be critical, I could have done with a few hundred (not exaggerating) less “baby”s, “trouble”s and “sunshine”s. I just don’t care for nicknames that much, and I didn’t particularly like any of these ones, and when they’re so overused it really just gets annoying.
I also would have loved to have seen some more scenes from Tate and Lance’s past to show them being in love/besotted with each other and hiding it etc to lend some more weight to the whole “I’ve always been in love with you and I still am 15 years later” schtick. 15 years is a long ass time and I’m gonna need a compelling as fuck argument for that one. As it was, we really only got two or three scenes from college, and it wasn’t really ✨enough✨ for me.
The epilogue sent me into a tailspin and I did not for a second think this book was gonna make me cry but the scene at the end with Tate and Charlie was the sweetest gd shit I’ve ever read. I’m OBSESSED w the Tate x Charlie dynamic. Simply dying for a novella just so I can read more about it. Lmao.
All in all I do recommend if you wanna laugh, be turned on and thoroughly shocked.

In a few words: The bad boy and the pastor, who first meet in college and become best friends. But after a drunken hook up, they don’t speak for 15 years until a chance encounter at pride that involves a glory hole 🕳️
And here we go… There is cheating, bi-awakening/gay for (only) you, second chance, chasing, smutty filthy stuff in a church, a plot twist Nyla style but also so much passion between Tate and Lance that you might burst into flames just reading it 🔥 (Well done Miss K)

I'm pretty sure this book is long, just for the sake of being long. And I don’t like any of these people.
The first 300 pages were just smut with the same recycled words over and over, about how much Lance regretted leaving Tate 15 years ago, without giving any reasons as to why. And how broken and sad it made Tate. (although, there is some aggressive hinting early on in the book about what the reason might be, so you get a good idea of where the story is heading.)
Oh, and the fact that they were supposed to be two 35-year-old men is truly baffling to me. They both acted more like they were in their early twenties. (I'm being generous.) The dialog between Lance and Tate was incredibly immature and cringy. I did not feel or believe in the romance between these two at all.
Lance is the most unlikable dumbass I've come across in a while.
When he reconnects with Tate and starts an affair with him. He goes on and on about how unfair it is to his wife (inner monologue). They have been together for 15 years, she is so perfect and blah blah blah.
Fast-forward a bit and things are blowing up for dumb and dumber. Desiree (Lance's wife) feels like something is going on with her husband (rightfully so). She saw some messages on her husband's phone from Tate that were mildly incriminating. I felt kind of bad for the wife earlier on in this book. But NOT after that scene. Turns out she's an awful human too. Everyone in this book was just plain awful.

I'm pretty sure this book is long, just for the sake of being long. And I don’t like any of these people.
The first 300 pages were just smut with the same recycled words over and over, about how much Lance regretted leaving Tate 15 years ago, without giving any reasons as to why. And how broken and sad it made Tate. (although, there is some aggressive hinting early on in the book about what the reason might be, so you get a good idea of where the story is heading.)
Oh, and the fact that they were supposed to be two 35-year-old men is truly baffling to me. They both acted more like they were in their early twenties. (I'm being generous.) The dialog between Lance and Tate was incredibly immature and cringy. I did not feel or believe in the romance between these two at all.
Lance is the most unlikable dumbass I've come across in a while.
When he reconnects with Tate and starts an affair with him. He goes on and on about how unfair it is to his wife (inner monologue). They have been together for 15 years, she is so perfect and blah blah blah.

She saw some messages on her husband's phone from Tate that were mildly incriminating. Tate. The man that you are 🥵 Tate is hilarious, intoxicating, complicated, and sexy. This love story is like no other. And the twist at the end? Iconic. Nyla K has me hooked.
“Some might call me a slut… But to those people, I would smirk and murmur, “Jealous?”
“Fucking kismet at pride.”
“Aw. Poor thing. You should never be stressed when there’s a glory hole nearby.”
“I don’t do this. I don’t do… boyfriends. I do other people’s boyfriends.”
Just had to throw in a couple Tate quotes because I just can’t not! He is fucking fabulous.

It was just okay, not quite what I expected.
There was a plot twist on the first plot twist that had me laughing, and not in a good way.
There are many secrets between all the characters and the explanations when some of them were revealed were weak.
I'm disappointed but that's just me. I think I'm the odd one out.

Trouble is a standalone M/M second chance romance by Nyla K. Although it does take place in the world of Push/Pull, it can absolutely be read to a standalone. Nyla does have content and trigger warnings on her website, however, I would recommend going into this as blind as you comfortably can. There is a major plot twist in this book, and for that reason, I’ll be keeping my review as vague as possible so you can enjoy the ride! Here’s what you can expect from Tate and Lance:

Lance Hardy is living the quiet life he believes he’s always wanted. He has a devoted congregation and a loving wife. He surely doesn’t think about his best friend from college that he walked out on after a night of blurred lines.Tate Eckhart lives his life out loud. He’s a self-made investment banker living in the fast lane. After his best friend broke his heart in college, he doesn’t do relationships or attachments. Until the Albuquerque Pride festival. When his world collides with Lance’s once again. Lance is married, and Tate really doesn’t do relationships. But when they’re together? Neither particularly practices what the preach, and nothing else seems to matter.
This is my second book by Nyla K. and once again, she’s knocked it out of the park. I haven’t read Push/Pull, but I can confidently say you don’t need to to enjoy this amazing story. I first met Lance and Tate in the Worthy Pride Anthology, and was ecstatic when I learned they were getting a full-length book. Their short story in the anthology left me with more questions than answers. As I said above, please try and go into this story as blindly as you can and avoid spoilers (and spoiling it for other people). The plot twist had my jaw dropping, and that’s my favourite feeling when reading!
Although there were times you couldn’t help but be frustrated with one of the main characters, I think that’s just a testament to Nyla’s gift for storytelling. This book was emotionally charges, steamy as hell, and a beautiful love story. As frustrating as Lance and Tate can be, you’re rooting for them to find their way to one another. Life is determined to make that difficult, and the last 30 percent of the book was a rollercoaster and I just couldn’t put it down. When I read the novella from the anthology, I could’ve never predicted their story ending the way it did and it was absolutely perfect for them. The overarching theme of found family in this book was just the icing on the cake. The characters were complex, perfectly imperfect, and incredible together (seriously, who knew that Lance was hiding that under his quiet, reserved exterior). Their epilogues were just so sweet that I had to go back and re-read it again the next day. I loved this book, and can’t say enough good things about Nyla K.’s work. Take a chance with this one, and I promise you’ll have the best time with Trouble and his Sunshine.

Where do I even start?
This book absolutely wrecked me (in the best possible way). I was giggling, kicking my feet, throwing hands, screaming into my pillow - literally every reaction known to mankind. I can't put into words how much I enjoyed it.
I'd only read one review of Trouble that mentioned plot twists. And oh mother, let me tell you - IT. HAS. THEM. Why is this not talked about more?? Every time I thought, “Okay, surely it can't get crazier now,” Nyla said watch this and swung. I had to put the book down multiple times just to process what I had read.
“This is how I get to fuck you, baby,” I growl, sinking deeper into his body. “Only me... watching your face while you fall apart.”
The sex scenes are phenomenal. So well written, detailed, hot, swoony - and the dirty talk from both MCs?? I was very well fed (and so was Tate). Some of these scenes easily run 10+ pages and not once did it feel excessive.
I also want to point out how beautifully Lance's beliefs are portrayed. They add so much depth without ever feeling preachy - which was honestly a concern I had going in. Instead, it was thoughtful and genuinely enriching to the story.
For a book that's almost 500 pages, it doesn't feel long. This might sound weird, but despite the length, not as many events happen as you'd expect - yet there’s nothing missing and nothing extra. Everything is detailed, balanced, and never boring. It’s like the book read itself.
Also, can someone explain why I expected Lance to be the bottom lol. I was fully prepared for “pastor becomes a whimpering mess” energy - excuse me here :').
5***** stars. Would recommend even if you wake me up at 3AM while I'm half-asleep.

2.5 stars. This book was LONG. Like, seriously and unnecessarily long. I found so much of it repetitive and circular, with endless internal monologues about the same shit over and over. This resulted in quite a lot of skimming in places.
The story revolves around Tate and Lance, best buds from college who have one life-changing night together and then don't see each other again for like 15 years. In this future, Tate is out, proud, promiscuous and materially successful and he dgaf what anyone thinks of him. Lance, on the other hand, is the son of a preacher who himself becomes a pastor and settles down with a pretty woman and tries to live his white picket fence life. They bump into each other (ifyky) and end up in an outrageous sexual relationship basically immediately. Things moved at lightning speed (which is just ridiculous for a book that's 600+ pages). I will give it to Nyla K that she kills the sex scenes, those are wild. But the romance was just a mess. Also, everyone knew Lance was married, but they were just cool with it? Be fucking for real.
Then there's the drama of the 'plot twist', which the author urges you to go in blind and experience first-hand. And, okay, it was pretty twisty and dramatic. But you know what else it was? It was dumb. It was just so stupid and ultimately pointless, it added nothing to the story for me. A married pastor cheating on his wife was more than enough, we really didn't need the added fireworks display, nor the cop-out counter plot twist that happens afterwards.
This could have been a much tighter and better read if some of the extraneous, soap-opera shit was cut and it was 200 pages shorter. There's also a lot of plot gymnastics that happened so that the MCs keep our sympathy in the end, but I'll be honest - I disliked both MCs a lot. Tate was shallow and narcissistic, and Lance was a bit pathetic. I mean, it's not the worst book in the world, but it's left me feeling a bit sour.
