This story starts with the main character, Denn, being knocked over by a bus. Having picked himself up from the street and 'feeling lucky', Denn continues on his way. But the story's main theme is how Denn finds himself dragged into gambling and loses his friends.
Peter Murray Hautman is an American author best known for his novels for young adults. One of them, Godless, won the 2004 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. The National Book Foundation summary is, "A teenage boy decides to invent a new religion with a new god."
He was feeling lucky, so he decided to play poker and gamble with his friends.
Now he was stuck in this invisible force that he wouldn't stop playing poker, which he was quite adept at.
Slowly but steadily, he is desensitised to losing what he really cared although he was winning tons of money instead and steps in a new world where gambling and only gambling was what he could think of.
It was an okay book. I didn't really feel anything after reading it but it gave me some knowledge about the unseen unravelled darkness of gambling.
