Love Triangle by Brenda Barrett is a novella told from the perspective of three people, a husband, a wife, and the husband's mistress. A quick read, the story allows the reader a front row seat to the mental, emotional, and physical consequences of having an affair. Lust and lies confront a Christian couple, forcing them to put their faith and devotion to one another to the test while another woman's happiness hangs in the balance.

Let me begin by saying that this novella is a page turner and demonstrates the great potential of this author. She delivers a story that is engrossing from page one; I finished the book in one sitting. I love her written voice and her presentation reflects a natural talent for storytelling. With that being said, there were some issues with the story that slightly distracted this reader. Although the story is written from the point of view (POV) of all three characters, there is an inconsistency with the narrative in that sometimes the POV is written from the first person perspective (I or my) and other times it is written from the third (he or she). There is also inconsistency with tense usage. The story takes place in Jamaica which is wonderful, however, the reader is not completely aware of this until four chapters in. The ending also feels slightly rushed and I would have liked to see more of the wife's process to coming to her final decisions.

I know it may seem as if with these issues, the book should not be a 4-star, but the story is really good, so much so that the issues do not turn the reader off or take away from the developing plot. I only offer this much detail in pointing out the issues because I believe this author has great talent and with the help of a good editor, could really write amazing books. I would definitely recommend her work and look forward to reading other books by the author.

Upfront, I got this as an e-book from Amazon, listed as a Christian fiction. I knew I was taking a risk with an unknown author and the subject matter. I was very surprised considering my history, to find that I found myself drawn to most of this book. It was a very new way of telling a story by having each chapter be told from a different Character's point of view as you work through the story. So you are seeing and hearing all three sides of the "triangle" and what they are thinking and feeling and going through.
This was unique. There were some unnecessary cuss words in it that added NOTHING at all to the story. Not because I don't like cussing, but because there were only 3 or 4 in the whole book and they were tacked on at the end of a sentence like an afterthought. Almost as if the Author had to work at putting them in. They stood out like a sore thumb.
There isn't a lot I can tell you about my opinion of each character's actions without giving away the book. But here is the best I can do. The wife's shock, anger, fear, and insecurities are so well written, trust me, true in every sense of every word! Even the extreme turnaround, as a Christian wife...also a true to life reaction.
Husband, this one is hard for me. I would like to think that a man in that situation FIRST wouldn't, but if he did, would respond in this way. But from what I have seen of the world, usually this is not the case.
Other woman...what can I say? She is the other woman and true to form.

I found that this story had potential but badly lacked depth and understanding. It jumped to quickly from situation to situation without giving depth of emotions or realistic explanations. I did not believe in his guilt. I definitely didn't FEEL his remorse. I did not feel his love for his wife nor have any understanding or depth of why he did what he did. Even if it was just because he could, there was no depth. I did not feel the wife's pain nor her forgiveness (I know she forgave him but we never got a depth of emotion to feel the forgiveness nor deep enough story to see the transition). We never really saw the OW pain or rejection.

No depth. Little emotions.

3.5 plot
1.5 writing - lacking depth and emotions
1.5 angst - lost due to lacking depth and emotions
2.5 Characters - lost points due to lack of dpeth and lack of emotions and therefore lack of growth but they too had potential

I liked the concept of having the three different sides to the story, usually it is just one-sided however it was badly written. The other woman is extremely hard to sympathise with and seems one-dimensional. The man having the affair doesn't seem like he truly understands what he is doing at all nor even an explanation to give. The wife's side of the story was very realistic however I was disappointed with the decisions she made at the end. She took her husband back and even was comfortable to strike a relationship with her husband's love child.

Altogether, this story had a good concept but needed to be thought out better.

I really enjoyed this read. I don't think I've ever read a story told from all three perspectives of a love triangle. It was very interesting to see what the wife that was cheated on has to endure. I thought Marie was at her breaking point many times, but she really turned out to be a very strong woman and that was admirable. Karen was your usual mistress, but in the end it seemed like she got herself on track. George really surprised me. Although he did his dirt he fought to keep his family together and took care of his other responsibility. Overall a really good read.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought the realistic depletion of how a wife faced with her husband's infidelity would react. I truly enjoyed getting the story from each person's point of view, this allows you to get to know each character. This my first book by this author and I look forward to reading another one.

Love Triangle - 3 sides POV still unsteady tripod

The story is told from 3 perspectives. The MMC isn't a likable person but he does demonstrate remorse over the affair. Still he deliberately chose to disrespect his wife, dishonor his marriage and family and abuse an innocent younger woman. He did not show any real growth, any real depth nor conviction in trying right his wrong and the circumstances of how it ended were horrendous. The story opens and ends with Karen. She's young, naive, and in love with George. That emotion never goes away throughout the entire story. At the end of the story, she recognizes that she needs to move. My heart went out to Marie. She gets the crappy end of the deal. Her hurt feelings are downplayed and ignored. Her family, his family, their church encourage her to forgive the husband and stay but honestly it came with a heavy price tag of self sacrifice and I'm not sure he husband was worth it not appreciated the cost. The story introduces the affair child but really doesn't address how Marie was able to accept this relationship and Co parenting with Karen. George doesn't respect Marie even offering Karen a house that belonged to Marie. He doesn't practice any safety relationship measures when he goes to help Karen with the nursery or baby's birth. He just seems to expect Marie to trust him when he's doing nothing to rebuild that trust. His children are just side notes, unidimensional, and their role in this sad triangle is never expressed. I finished the story rooting for Marie to break free of the strictures imposed upon her and hope she finds a way to stand up for herself and become a stronger person. I wanted her to put George in his place and I wanted George to fight for his family. That's not in the story. I gave it a 3 star though because the author had a great way of capturing dialog and I could hear the characters voices as I read.

A good read, but Needed more....
Let me start my saying, I believe Brenda Barrett is an extraordinary gifted and talented writer. One I rank at the top by her writing style. I stumbled upon her books by Goodreads. The first book I read by her , Private Sins was a great read. Then I found this one and let me say that as I soon as I started reading this book, I was immediately drawn into the storyline of a husband who is a bank manager and starts cheating with a woman who works at the bank. She knows he's married, but still pursues him anyway. The husband eventually realizes he has to end the affair after a year because he still loves his wife and his wife begins to suspect him of having an affair, the other woman starts nagging him to leave his wife and he is dealing with guilt of the affair. After his mother tells his wife that he has been bringing this woman to her house, the wife later confronts him once he arrives home and he confesses. This book gives us the different views of infidelity from the wife, husband and the OW. I was deep into this book. The problem I had was that the ending was too abrupt. I was expecting more of the story. We needed to see and feel the angst of the wife discovering her husband had betrayed her. More of the 5 stages of grief emotions play out. After the wife meets with the OW and tells her she forgives her, I turned the page and it said: "Epilogue" and then goes 5 years into the story an ends. I just felt she should have given us more on this story. When I got to the end, I felt unsatisfied, but it was still a good book and definitely recommend it.

Mixed Feelings

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I can understand Marie forgiving George for having an affair with Karen but on the other hand having a constant reminder, in the form of a child, wouldn't be easy for me to get over. Marie had to really seek God not to leave George and think about what it would do to her young children. Women like Karen REALLY discuss me because why would you be okay with a husband breaking his vows to God and his wife to be with you and then you want to be hurt and upset when he won't leave his family. I'm still on the fence about George because he had everything in a wife and for a whole year, she wasn't enough until he got caught. He didn't end the affair because it was the right thing to do. He ended the affair because he got caught.

George is a married man with the children at home, but risks it all for a woman he meets at work. Now, he's in jeopardy of losing it all.

Marie is devastated to learn that her husband is having an affair on her. Will she be able to forgive him, for the sake of the family.

Karen has fallen in love with her superior at work, and believes that he is going to leave his family for her. Now, she's fine herself in a predicament that will change her life.

This was my introduction to the author, and now I'm hooked. I love the way we heard from all three parties involved. I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎read.

This storyline happens more often than not. I can never understand how a younger woman could think that being the side chick will gain her the entire man. At some point, she will become distraught when things don’t work out as she hoped it would. What starts out as being flirty and not caring that he’s a married man, ends with an innocent child being involved. The torture this causes for the wife could have ended tragically. I didn’t know how this story would end. You will definitely find this an interesting read.

Enjoyed

Interesting story about infidelity. I think Marie was a loving and forgiving person, because if my husband cheated on me for a year and impregnated the cheater. Forgiveness will come along with a divorce.

Ambivalent

The narrative was well written however, the meaning escapes me. The point that stood out was the wife's forgiveness. I am not a supporter of cheating.

I really liked the idea of seeing the affair from the three vantage points. That was kind of cool. But I do think there were some omissions

I do feel like the previous reviewer that something was missing. I would say that two things were missing in this book. First, more needed to be said about the physical relationship. I ain't asking for explicit sex, but something is missing when we jump form a first kiss and then the next thing we hear about is that they had been sleeping together for a year.

Another thing that was missing is the journey to be willing to forgive was not explored well enough. The book didn't make forgiveness easy, but it still could have spent a bit more time exploring how the character got into a position to forgive others....

After having said that, I think it was better than OK...We can't expect a full scale novel in a short story..

I really enjoyed reading Love Triangle. I connected with the characters and I sympathized with what they all were going through during the story. Infidelity, especially when it produces a child, is one of the toughest situations for a couple to deal with and rarely does real-life run as smoothly as fiction under those circumstances. I would have loved for the author to expand the psychology of each character so that we could get into their "heads" a lot more. This also would have given greater depth to the characters. I wanted to know more about the changes of heart that occurred in the women as well & a greater explanation of their transitions. This could have easily been a full length novel, but is a good read just like it is. I would definitely read more of the author's work.

Love Triangle is a short book about the aftermath of a man's infidelity told from the perspective of the man, his wife and his mistress. The characters are developed in a manner that makes it hard to put the book down. You come to know how the illicit relationship is experienced by the trio and ultimately how the each resolves to move forward. There are moments of sadness, shame, anger, forgiveness and great strength of character. There is no excuse for the behaviors displayed by the man and his mistress but as you come to know them you at least begin to care about the outcome. This is an interesting book club selection for women. The story is likely to illicit strong opinions one way or another. You will ask yourself 'what would I do more than once?

This was my first Jamaican novella of this nature. Based in Mandeville, (The capital Parish of Manchester) the protagonists trapped himself between two women, his wife and sweetheart and only after the fact did he realize that he indeed love his wife and cannot imagine what his life would be without her. This was an easy read from start to finish with a very shallow plot that I thought had infinitely more potential.

A love triangle, each person has their own feelings, fears and regrets. This story expressed those feelings from each angle. This was an excellent read. All of the characters were developed enough for the reader to imagine their true feelings with in the relationship.

The story wasn't so much about the sexual relationship but more about the hurt, pain and consequences of the actions taken by each person.

Great Read

Wow, this was like the shortest short story I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and while I found the topic of infidelity interesting, for me it was just TOO short. I wanted to know more about the relationships between the characters, but it seemed like the story was all over before it really got started.
I can't say that this book excited me, but it didn't bore me either as I kept reading to the end. I just wish there was more...

Could you forgive your husband if he had a year long affair with a co-worker and the result is a pregnancy? Take a look at Karen, Marie & George Cameron and the hurt that infidelity causes. I really enjoy novels that deal with real life issues and this one did not disappoint. Hats off to Marie she was a real woman as far as I'm concerned. I did enjoy this novel and will be reading other books in the future.

This book was very entertaining. It displayed all sides to the story. Also it's showed how strong the wife was. Synopsis of the story:George was being a man. He met this young thing & gave her things & played on her stupidity. Karen was not a gold digger just DUMB. Does he really want to leave his wife Marie? Then there's Marie, who holds all the cards. Remember this: a cheater NEVER leaves their wife!

If there is Love forgiveness is a big part of growth.

In all situations we must sometimes learn to forgive those we Love. The hurt that is caused seems unforgivable but we must learn that forgiving helps the heart heal. Being the bigger person helps you deal with the situation better knowing GOD has forgiven us and he still loves us unconditionally no matter what the situation is.

I loved this book. Nobody understands the little word forgiveness until they have to forgive. I loved Marie's character the most. So strong even when she felt like being weak.
