Kate is a book worm, dog mom, and world-builder, living on the banks of the Hudson River in NY. Her #lifegoal is to be kidnapped by the Fae or stumble into a portal and be transported to a magical land.
A lover of mythology and fairy tales, Kate writes YA Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. Her first novel, "The Wood Witch's Daughter," just launched on April 20th!
She has since thrown herself into the chaotic mayhem that passes for her writing process in an attempt to write the sequel.
What's really sad is that, for an author who openly and proudly uses AI to write her books, they're so bad lolol Like, fuck. At least try. This is why human creativity matters.
To be disgustingly proud of yourself for farming out creativity, and then blaming trad as if that excuses it. AI is a horrible, terrible thing to be using for both creative reasons but also environmental. All because you're too bad of a writer to do it yourself. How depressing.
Another author on the NEVER BUY FROM list. What's sad is if she hadn't posted the video I linked literally bragging about her AI usage, I might've been willing to read more from Seger, but alas, I prefer to support people with talent, not people who literally steal from other people (which is what AI does...)
This one took me by surprise in the best way! Beauty Awakening is a beautifully written retelling with just the right mix of romance, magic, and mystery. Kate Seger really knows how to weave a world that’s both lush and haunting.
The chemistry between the characters? Chef’s kiss. 🤌🏼✨ The slow burn kept me hooked, and I loved how the relationship grew in a way that felt natural but still gave me butterflies! Plus, the twists along the way? Didn’t see them coming at all.
It’s a gorgeous story that gothic fantasy lovers will devour. Definitely recommend if you're into retellings with depth and heart. 🖤
I would actually give it about 3.5 star. I was throughly enjoying this book, more so then the first one until the Whisper reveal. Darius kind of gave off vibes he wasn’t over Eliza in the first book but this is just. Wow. As soon as he found out Whisper has Eliza’s essence he was like ‘Beauty who?’ And then completely forgot about Beauty and then in his dream he wanted Eliza and got told, no Eliza or you will suffer consequences and essentially just chose Beauty because he was forced and threatened. If he could he would swap Beauty for Eliza in a heartbeat and that’s heartbreaking and really made my opinion of Darius go down. He kept calling Whisper (Eliza)- his love, his Eliza, pretending the fur was her hair, calling her his heart’s twin, his heart, and his North Star. It just got kind of weird. We do learn that Eliza was his first love and wife (later on) thankfully towards the end it started to not feel as weird. But for the first 1/2 of the book it made me feel bad for Beauty. I am glad we got to see how Darius was able to ‘repent’ and grow as a person from his past mistakes. I also couldn’t believe the abuse he put Whisper through after losing Eliza. But I guess he was also willing to put his hands on Beauty in the first book. Thankfully we see a new better version of Darius in this book, I thought it was sweet that they got their happily ever after and I wish I could read Kora’s story because I feel like I would love hers but I don’t have KV, hopefully it gets turned into an actual book at some point!
The quest where Darius goes to the Underworld is well done and interesting, the author does a great job of describing everything and making you feel like you’re kind of in a fever dream with Darius. I enjoyed the quest. Let’s talk about how Whisper/Eliza was the real MVP here, sacrificing herself so her husband and only love could have a second chance at love. Wow. That was beautiful and she is a much bigger person than me. I hope she found her peace in the afterlife and I hope things aren’t complicated when Darius and Beauty get to the Underworld since he has two loves hahahaha.
I felt like my opinion of this book went from great to horrible to great again, I was tempted to ditch this book but I am glad I stuck it out and got to see loose ends tie up and see Darius and Beauty have a beautiful fulfilling life together.
