I never expected my broken heart to lead me into the arms of Cody Banks, my best friend's enigmatic brother and my teenage crush turned rival. As my ski instructor at the resort where I'm spending my would-be honeymoon, he's the last person I want to see. He forgets we’re enemies slipping back into my life with his cocky grin and laid back-charm. I've got deep scars, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to face them.
Thaw My Heart is a story of love, friendship, and second chances. A best friend's brother romances with all the enemies and lovers in spicy scenes. Join Darcy and Cody as they navigate a blizzard of emotions and discover that sometimes, love is the only thing that can truly thaw a frozen heart.
The perfect short romance book for beach reads 2024.
When she’s not getting lost in vivid daydreams about her next book boyfriend, you can find romance author Lola Lockhart devouring or writing yet another swoon-worthy novel, going for a hike to fuel her imagination, or planning her next cozy café writing session (caffeine is a must).
This passionate Brit loves the UK, but her heart will always remain wherever the sun shines brightest – AKA, she tries to escape the cold weather as much as possible.
Lola has been hooked on sweeping love stories since childhood, when she could often be found secretly reading under the covers long after bedtime, flashlight in hand. Now she gets to share that obsession, serving up steamy new couples destined to melt hearts.
This was super cute and a first for me by this author. It was also a first ski romance I’ve read or seen which was different. I grew up skiing every year so I loved being able to read a romance about it. This character development was good. I love how even after all those years, the feelings Cody had for Darcy never fully went away. Once they were finally able to move past what cause the tension from all those years ago, and actually communicate, they realized they just needed to stop fighting it and accept they were meant to be.

★★★★☆/5 🌶🌶
This was the cutest wee read ever 🥹 I love reading about a broken/troubled MMC, and Cody was such a good character.
I loved the dual POV, where we got to see both sides of the story. Both Darcy and Cody are very complicated and hurting in their own way, which only makes the comfort they find in each other that much sweeter.
This book was so cosy, set in a snowy mountain resort. I loved the more in-depth steamy scenes in this book compared to the last couple of books by Lola. They defo kept me feeling even more invested in this couple 🔥
Maya was such a lovely side character. She is honestly the type of friend everyone needs in their life, and I was rooting for her and Louis the whole time 🤭
Overall, this was another fast-pasted steamy romance. As usual, I love the way Lola writes, as you're bound to instantly fall head over heels for the characters when the book has barely even begun. I can't wait to read more by her in the future 🫶🏼
Thank you so much for this ARC and being in your team in general @lolalockhartauthor 🩷
It has been a while since I have completed a book in one sitting, but I did with this one.
Lola wrote this book of was effortless to read. The pacing was fabulous, there was enough humour, drama and detail without getting to bogged down that it flowed. I think that's why I found it so easy to read.
The Maya and Darcy friendship was wonderful, and I loved it wasn't all rainbows and they were brutally honest with each other.
What happened with Cody's past I did not expect, but I loved that layer to the story.
Oh my precious Cody!! I just wanted to wrap him up in my arms and hug him and tell him everything is going to be ok... But damn was it scarily accurate to how some guys handle trauma. Not all, but definitely some.
Overall, it was so very well done. Lola did a fabulous job and I can't wait to read more of what she writes.

I haven’t read many second chance romances yet, and I am so glad this was my introduction to them! As someone who lives in Colorado, I squeed when the Colorado Springs airport was referenced, as well as the two hour drive up into the mountains. I had to get out Google Maps to sleuth around which resort Cody was working at! Darcy and Cody have a very interesting dynamic, to the point you could almost give them the enemies to lovers trope as well. You can clearly understand how their relationship got to the point it’s at at the onset of the story, and I love how the various flashbacks throughout provide important background information about the events that cause their rift. In the same vein, you could also almost give them the miscommunication trope, but since their falling out happened in their teen years, when you don’t always understand what’s going on in your own brain, let alone someone else’s, we can give them a pass. Both characters are well written, and they feel like people you could know in real life. They have excellent chemistry and suit each other. The setting of the ski resort adds to the overall story, and Cody’s interactions with entitled patrons made me laugh. Overall, this story has all of the best elements of a second chance romance! I highly recommend you check out this book. It is out on July 19th!!!
This was a really wonderful book! I liked the characters so much. Everyone had their own story and you follow everyone's story both separately and together in the book. I always think it's great that they write from both perspectives. I would really like to have a band like Darcy and Maya, friends for life and are always looking out for each other. Love Darcy and Cody. So sweet how they take care of each other and go for each other. I found the storyline of the book very entertaining. There was also humour in the book that I laughed out loud. In the story you read are beautiful life lessons and messages that make you think about it. I sympathised very much with the characters and felt like I was in the world of the characters. A beautiful story and definitely recommended!
this book was such a wild ride ! the history and trauma we unpacked was insane my heart was not ready for it ! these characters felt like real people trying to find themselves and i really enjoyed that
cody is so protective and the sweetest soul 🥹 i loved darcy and her friendship with maya they are true ride or dies. cody and darcy’s banter and character development was everything !
Cody & Darcy: Best friend’s brother/ childhood friends-crush to enemies to lovers/ Ski romance: Love, friendship, and second chances. Loved the banter between Cody and Darcy. Great storyline and characters.
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers Best Friend's brother childhood best friends second chance ski resort forced proximity Dual POVs
Thaw My Heart follows the POVs of Darcy and Cody. Darcy's fiance cheated on her, so her best friend, Maya, convinces Darcy to take a girls trip- on what should have been Darcy's honeymoon. The trip is at a ski resort where Maya's brother, Cody, works.
Cody, Maya, and Darcy grew up together and were close friends. Until middle school and one game of spin the bottle changed everything. Now, Cody and Darcy are sworn enemies. Both are fighting grief of past relationships, and forced proximity- thanks Maya!- causes them to not only look at themselves, but their relationship too.
I thought Thaw My Heart was a cute story. I love that it took place at a ski resort- you don't get that venue often in books and was nice! At first, I wasn't a fan of Maya. I felt she left her bestie in a time of need to go off on her love-scapade. Then I felt she was harsh on both Darcy and Cody when she hadn't even been around. BUT when you think about real life relationships- she's been there for them both before this trip and you have to take that into consideration. She's probably ready for them both to move on and she needs a break too.
So Maya, go get your man!
Cody is definitely a protector and Darcy just needs to shake her ex off her shoulders and let loose! Overall, give it a read!

Final Rating: 4/5⭐️
This one was so cute!! Loved the story line, but it did lose a star for me because I feel like the plot could have been fleshed out a little bit more. There were instances that the characters kinda just grazed over an important topic when I thought it was something that needed a bit more communication However, overall it was a very enjoyable read! I liked the characters and there were big moments I was not expecting! Also, loved the way Maya (and just her character in general tbh) supported them throughout the whole thing!! Will definitely read more from Lola in the future<3
read heartbeats and hashtags and loved it. this one? not so much. i tried. i really tried. i did finish it (although it took so long when i read books of this length in an afternoon) but it just wasn’t for me. it looked really good but i didnt particularly enjoy it.
mainly because i found darcy insufferable 90% of the time. she treats maya so unfairly. “oh my fiancé left me so im gonna be a bitch about it to my best friend and ruin our trip even though she’s done everything to support me and i can’t do this one thing for her. oh also yeah i hate all men now”.
^that’s basically darcy. i get she’s been hurt very badly by milo but multiple men have done way worse things to me than milo did to darcy and i don’t have that stupid ‘i hate all men’ attitude. and darcy keeps promising maya she’ll stop being a whiny child but not even a page later and she’s sulking and taking her issues out on everyone else.
plus i feel bad for cody. he could’ve done so much better. maybe it’s because we didn’t get a proper insight into how they were as kids but i just didn’t see the chemistry at all. also they were together for like 5 pages. right at the end. all they’d done is fucked before and danced around feelings.
plus can we talk about maya and louis’ ending?? i thought they were cute. until louis shows up at the airport apparently fully in love with maya and no longer a huge playboy when they’d known each other for like five days! plus she didn’t even spend that much time with him during that time either!!
These three characters are all really annoying and immature and selfish.
Darcy’s inner monologues are so boring and usually goes in a circle of some sort, and it’s such a waste of time.
Maya completely abandoned her best friend for a boy on their first full day there and that’s a pretty awful move when said friend had funded the trip since it was supposed to have been her honeymoon and Maya’s the one who convinced Darcy to go in the first place.
Cody is actually severely depressed, thinking things like, waking up is the biggest disappointment of his day. He’s isolated himself from his family. He really isn’t trying to heal…he runs away from everything.
And they all are just so irritating when they contradict themselves. It’s like they have a personality disorder, ranging from normal to depressed to angry at the world in seconds. No build up, just crazy, extreme reaction. They say or think one thing and then they say or think the opposite immediately after. Take Darcy and Cody after they sleep together for the first time, Darcy tells Cody she knows it was just a one-night situation, then the next morning she’s thinking how Cody was supposed to be different, how the fact that he left made her feel like it was a one-night stand. Wtf, girl! You just said…ugh!! I give up.
I definitely do NOT recommend this mess of a book. Like what month is this set in!? Cody mentions how it’s almost been a year since and that was supposedly in October. So how are they skiing and how is it snowing if it’s summer/fall? It’s very confusing. The story is full of holes, the characters are awful and unlikeable, and the romance isn’t believable or actually romantic. I wanted to quit so many times but forced myself to bear the burden and finish. It doesn’t get better, the end is just as nuts as the characters.
The end revealed, so you can save yourself the pain if you want to know, but seriously, just go to another book:
Please save yourself the pain and time waste, do not read this mess.

ARC REVIEW 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25
Thaw My Heart HAS MY HEART!!🥹 Thaw My Heart was such an amazing love story that was emotional and fluffy and just such a feel good book that made me feel fulfilled at the end!🫶🏼 ALSO - THE DEDICATION?!?! I cried for 10 minutes.🥹
Ater finding out her High School Sweetheart, Milo, cheated on her; Darcy decided to call off the wedding. 6 Months later, Darcy is still getting over her cheating ex and brings Maya along to her supposed-to-be honeymoon at a Ski Resort!🗻 Maya hasn't seen her older brother in years and it just so happens her older brother works as a ski instructor!⛷️
Growing up all three of them were attached at the hip! But then middle school and high school happen, and... you're just gunna have to read the book yourself! 😉 BUT, after years of confusing emotions, and pent-up resentment, Darcy and Cody start thawing their hearts for one another.🩷
One thing I ADORED about this book is how real the friendship was between Darcy and Maya. Their friendship is one of my FAVORITE friendships in a book I've read now.🩷 They're brutally honest with one another but also love each other so deeply.🥹👯♀️
Thaw My Heart has topics are grief that could be tough for some readers but the way Lola wrote it and represents it, is downright beautiful.🥲🫶🏼 Darcy and Cody are absolutely the sweetest and love every part of each other so deeply, the good & bad. They also show each other that they can love again even if the past is hard to work through.❤️🩹

DNF at 60%. I wanted to love this one but I just couldn't. Besides the writing just not vibing with me, the characters were generally unlikeable, especially the MCs.
RANT INCOMING...
I knew this book was going downhill for me when it came to the skiing content. I am a skier and I work at a ski mountain, so when I read about it in books I like it to be accurate. Aside from the fact that none of the ski content made sense (going to a lesson without any equipment or ski gear, a beginner lesson not taking place on a beginner hill, picking up the sport in a matter of minutes, DINs being too high for skis to release when falling, ski patrol NOT being called for an injury), the fact that Cody, as a ski instructor, was downright rude to his customers had me upset. You don't teach a sport or keep your job by being snarky to your students and dismissing them early from a paid lesson. Idk why this part bugs me so much but how am I supposed to root for a character who is downright disrespectful? Don't work in the industry if you don't want to share it with others.
Also - don't write a book about a ski resort if you don't know anything or can't be bothered to do research about snowsports.
END RANT. Back to the story...
The pacing and tone of the book were all over the place. The MCs were hot and cold toward each other for seemingly no reason at times. Despite their rough pasts, it doesn't excuse the toxic behavior that they both engage in towards one another and other characters in the book. They deserve each other I suppose.
This book was absolutely adorable! It’s July in Texas so getting to read this cute little winter romance in Colorado was exactly what I needed!

Darcy and her best friend Maya decide to turn a bad situation into a fun one by spending Darcy’s would-be honeymoon together instead of letting her ex-fiancee win and lose the trip. Unfortunately, that means Darcy has to spend time with her best friend-turned-enemy, Cody, who works at the ski resort they are staying at… and who happens to be Maya’s older brother. The three of them used to be inseparable best friends until things changed in school and Cody outgrew their friendship. They’ve been enemies ever since and avoid each other at all costs.
Cody is dealing with his own issues and trauma not realizing that his world is going to get turned upside down when Darcy and Maya come into town. He is fully planning to be civil with Darcy for his sisters sake but that proves to be harder than expected when Darcy shows up and is still the sassy, fiery red-head that he used to be so close with.

A very cozy fun and adorable read. I was rooting for all the characters and made me feel like I know them personally.
Darcy & Cody’s story takes you through a roller coaster of emotions that will keep you engaged. Each person’s Character decelopment, history with each other, and past traumas were written so well and effortless to follow and understand. Cody’s inner thoughts and his journey through dealing with the trauma is so well written and made me realise that men’s mental health is not often discussed in books a s real life (it broke my heart!!!)
Darcy & Maya’s ride and die friendship is so heart warming to read and it really makes you cherish all the people / friends in your life who are “like family”.
Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this book. Its fast paced, easy to read and follow the story from start to end. Loved the steamy scenes in “This Cold Weather” (Get it hahaha)
Thank you Lola for giving me this opportunity to be a part of your “ARC team”. I am so grateful and I cannot wait to read more of your books in the future ❤️💕🫶🏼
I literally never give a book a below 3* rating until now. This book did not sit well with me. All the characters had unlike able qualities and flaws and the main male lead was such a wimp running away constantly even before his ex died in a car crash. For example the best friend who was there to support her friend on the trip due to cheating fiancé totally ditched her within the first day of getting there for a guy - that’s not how best friends should treat each other especially when one is struggling. The build up between Cody and Darcy seemed really random and not believable. There was a lot of self reflection on both their parts but it was lacking in the actual conversation department to make the development between the two characters more believable before the steamy scene. There were a lot of holes as well - sometimes Cody and Darcy would start hanging out without any mention of where the best friend would be during that time. Generally when best friends travel together and stay in same hotel room they actually spend time together as a default or at least communicate when they don’t and there wasn’t any explanation of why that wasn’t the case. There was at least a happy ending!
Thaw My Heart is a steamy, childhood friends to enemies to lovers, girl gets her best friend's brother, second chance romance. Darcy is on her would-be honeymoon with her bestie Maya after she called off the wedding when she found her ex cheating a few months ago. Cody is a hunky ski instructor, and Maya's older brother, who will be working at the resort while they are there. The three were very close growing up. Darcy had a crush on Cody, but they grew apart, and when, what I feel, is a misunderstanding, drove them apart, they became enemies. Both characters have some serious baggage and have been hurt. My heart ached for Cody. I just loved him so much. The bestie relationship with Maya and Darcy was amazing and so real. This couple had such amazing chemistry. The banter was hysterical, and the ending was happy, but it was quite a roller-coaster to get there. I really loved this story so much.

this was my first ever ski romance and i really loved it! i can't wait to reread this book during winter.
thaw my heart was super cute and the character development was so good. if you want a winter romance then this book is for you!
i loved that even after all these years the feelings cody had for darcy never went away. i also loved cody's snappy comebacks to the patrons.

thank you lola lockhart for sending me this arc to read and review!
I absolutely loved reading about Darcy and Cody. While there were a few moments that I felt seemed rushed or where I personally didn't feel the emotional aspect was quite there yet, the overall story / feel of the story was amazing.
I am trying to keep this spoiler free - so.... yeah.... - I HATED the way Darcy was acting about Claudia before she got the full story, but I 100% understood why she felt the way she did. I made a note to myself that said "If someone doesn't tell this woman the truth about Claudia I am going to go crazy!" LOL
The other part that REALLY stood out to me was the vulnerability of Cody when trying to understand certain things that happened regarding Darcy and his feelings on things with Claudia - THE CALL WITH HIS DAD - THAT BROKE ME!
• This book was a total emotional rollercoaster. Let. Me. Tell. You.
• Both of the MCs have dealt with their own, stuff, either together or apart. The progression and growth within the characters is awesome to watch. She’s a total spitfire and I adore her. He’s a total hot mess, but also so incredibly sweet.
• Their story makes you love the banter, the big emotions, the MCs, and the overall ride. It made me smile, shake my head, happy, sad.. all at once. I loved it!
• I absolutely recommend this read, although you may thing it’s on the shorter side. I promise there’s so much going on within those pages.
Ok this book was so much more than the fluffy romance books I am obsessed with. On top of Cody and Darcy’s relationship there was so much more- family love, depression, guilt, trauma, but most importantly, healing. Both Darcy and Cody were healing from loss and dealing with what came to them, differently. Reading the two of them learn to communicate and come together despite their deep wounds, really made this a great read for me. Spice was probably a 2/5 but the story, although sad, was a 5/5 for me. The character development and the ending was so much more powerful, after reading their story and getting to know Darcy and Cody (and Maya - I want her as a BFF!!).
But I feel like some tropes were missing… such as mourning/grief and self-loathing. There are flashbacks/details to an event that is truly heartbreaking and really affects one of the main characters.
I am also confused why it was considered "off season" when the FMC went to the ski resort but she was having ski lessons/there was a lot of snow everywhere… then there was also still enough snow for ski lessons ski 6 month later. Winter is not 6 months in Colorado. (I live in Rocky Mtn. area)
But be aware that it also includes conversations about depression, grief and substance abuse.
I enjoyed the story as such but when will writers learn to mention safe sex in the romance books? Or at least acknowledge that main characters aren’t even asking each other whether they’re on the same page about using protection? Is it a well known stereotype in American romance novels?
I mainly picked this novel because it was supposed to be about skiing vacation? Vacation it was indeed but barely any skiing. It felt briefly glanced over as a subject.
If you’re looking for an easy, fast read and if you’re not afraid of above mentioned trigger warnings, then this is a good example of a book that might help you get from a reading slump.
I think there might be something wrong with me, because I don’t understand how this got such a high rating. It’s a charming story that explores grief and second chances in various ways. Those things took me a little bit by surprise. But I think the things that urked me were the dynamics between the characters. Did anyone actually like each other? Maya was often annoyed and frequently absent. Darcy was so self-involved that she couldn’t see past her issues, and Cody is so wrapped in trauma that there is no way he should even be entertaining the thought of moving forward until he’s ready. Maybe it’s been a while since I read it, but that’s all I can remember from it. Overall, I liked the ski resort location and the plot to a point.

Review: Oh my goodness! You guys this book had me in an emotional rollercoaster!!! I cried, I laughed, I fought hard, but oh my goodness!!! This book is so adorable and I’m sure you’ll all fall in love or with Darcy and Cody as much as I did!!🩵 This book has a lot of trauma each MC sent through and they both learned and fought through it in ways they didn’t think they could do it. And on top of all that, this book takes place in snowy mountains!!!! Highly recommend!!
“So what if her older brother and I have a complicated, messed up past?”This best friend’s brother, enemies to lovers story was an enjoyable read. The characters had a lot of history together, which helped inform the story and the relationship development. The interactions were engaging and entertaining. The setting of the ski resort was an interesting backdrop. I liked the characters. The romance had good intensity. This story includes elements that involve death, car accident, and grief. This is an open door, romance with innuendo and strong harsh language.

If you like enemies to lovers, best friend's brother, forced proximity, and childhood friends/crushes I'd recommend this book. This book is also very emotional and I was not expecting it. It was certainly a heartwarming book with both main characters facing very difficult situations.
*what I like: I loved the friendship between Darcy and Maya- they were very honest and real with each other. *what I wanted more: I purely wanted more-more tension/more build-up and more moments with both of the main characters.
