How was I supposed to know my new boss was the owner’s nephew? Now, I’ve been fired for speaking up about his roaming hands. And if that isn’t bad enough, I get home early to find my boyfriend bumping the girl next door!
With nowhere to go, I decide to join the Starlight Lottery. The promise of fresh air and a job on an alien planet where no one knows me sounds just about perfect. I’m ecstatic when I’m accepted immediately.
But when I arrive at Aquaria, it’s not a job as a marine botanist that awaits me, but marriage to a triton! Cetius has a powerful tail and an upper body that puts the best bodybuilder to shame. But there’s a catch.
He doesn’t really want a wife. He just needs me to pretend to make his aging grandsire happy in his last days. After, I can choose between a pampered life under the waves or trying my luck on a small human settlement at the surface.
Too bad not everyone’s happy with the arrangement. Some would rather I end up as sushi for the sharks of this planet. And worst yet, I think I’m falling for my pretend triton mate.
Welcome to the Starlight Brides – where luck is optional, but the hot alien is guaranteed!
Lynnea Lee is a recovered serial monogamist who now lives in her forever home with the man of her dreams. Still hopelessly addicted to the feeling of falling in love she now feeds her habit with a routine prescription of romance novels and rampant imagination. When she is not dreaming up fantastical stories of love, lust and romance, her hobbies includes talking to her plants, putting on a full face of makeup to stay home on Saturday nights and hugging her dog longer than is appreciated.
Seeking a better life, the characters sign up for new jobs. However, what they receive and what they expected are two different things.
This sci-fi paranormal tale follows Earth women as they discover their fated mates in the most unexpected places. It features humor and a longing for love that we can all relate to.
The series is written by different authors, each contributing their own unique spin on the concept of fated mates with unusual alien creatures.
3.5 stars I enjoyed that Vera was a botanist and that she shared a passion for exploring and learning with Cetius. They were cute together, but I wish we’d gotten to see more of them getting to know each other. Or that we got to know them better. Or both.
Spice: 2/5
Triggers: violence, attempted murder, hunting, poisoning, kidnapping (not by MC), near drowning, mentions of parent death, mentions of mass death via poison
"Maybe this setup wasn’t so bad after all. A hot merman husband, a gorgeous home, and all the plants I could ever hope to study. What could possibly go wrong?"
Can I have that setup too? Please? This was a really cute alien romance. Interesting world building, little meet cute, some angst and family drama, rich merman, and of course the swoony romance. I was cracking up when Vera described Cetius as a sexy, scary, merman ken doll. But she soon discovered he wasn't as Ken like down there as she thought. 😏 Vera's personality was very fun to read.
I really enjoyed Lynnea's humor and writing and I am definitely going to look up more of their stuff.
Thank you to the author for allowing me access to this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my favourite in the series so far! For a novella, the balance between world building, romance and drama is great. The mermaid-like species called the Thalassonian is very interesting and I definitely wouldn’t mind more books set on their planet. Cetius and Vera are good characters, well matched with their interest in aquatic fauna.
It was my first Lynnea book and definitely not the last!
I received an arc for this book and must say it was a pleasure to read! My review and opinion are honest and my own.
The characters were well developed and the world building was colorful and interesting. The story was so sweet and well put together. A little excitement and mystery and a good amount of spice.
Lynnea is a wonderful author so I was excited to read this one and not at all disappointed!
This was a solid 4.5 stars for me and so far is my favorite in the Starlight Brides series! This story had really unique worldbuilding that was fun to explore. I loved the whole concept and reasoning behind the external gills that Cetius had made for Vera. The whole humans living under water concept was just really well thought out! I also loved how sweet the romance was between Cetius and Vera. The spice was a little bit lighter in this one compared to the other Starlight Bride books, but it was still well done. This one has some special Trident shaped equipment in it to spice things up.
There is a little bit of family conflict at the end, but it was wrapped up nicely. The ending felt slightly rushed, but overall this story was well written and enjoyable!
Thank you Lynnea Lee for the opportunity to read this ARC! My thoughts and opinions are my own in this review.
__________________________________________ "Alien Triton's Prize" is a science fiction novel that takes us to a future where humanity is seeking new horizons in space due to the pollution of the Earth. It can't be true! Humans breathing underwater without SCUBA gear?
Vera is a human who joined the Starlight Lottery program. Earth has become so polluted that it is deemed to be uninhabitable. People are being sent to emergency colonies and space stations.
Vera was a botanist working for Agricore Inc. Her new manager had gotten handsy, and when she rebuffed him, she also left him with a diabolical parting gift. Only then did she learn that her new manager was the nephew of the owner. As result, she was fired. Then she returned home to find her fiancé going at it with their beautiful, younger neighbor. Could this day get any worse?
When she signed a contract with Starlight Lottery, she thought she was signing up for a new job as a marine botanist. Boy was she wrong!
She'd been dropped off on a beautiful beach and had been told to wait for her contact. Then she would be settled on the planet. She noticed in a nearby tidal pool there was a Thalassonian. They are underwater inhabitants of this planet. He looks like what humans would call a merman. The top half looks humanoid, only with a silvery purple-bluish tinted scaly skin. He has small fins instead of ears and a mouthful of sharp teeth. He introduces himself as Cetius, her new husband!
There's no way that Cetius wants a wife! But his grandsire, Cetion, is old, and it would make him happy to believe that Cetius has a wife and a chance for spawn. She argues that she signed up for a job lottery, not to be a bride. She shows him her signed contract. But before their eyes, the words on it change. Lottery becomes Bride. They were married the instant the contract was signed. They agree that she'll stay with him until his grandsire dies, or one planetary year, whichever comes first. Then he'll return her to the surface, or she can continue her stay in Coral's Deep.
These beings may not be humans, but they have families, friends, and enemies just like humans. Treachery isn't unknown to them either...
I received an ARC of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily leaving this review.
Gleeful Goblin Review: There aren't enough merman romances in my opinion and I'm so thrilled that this book has joined those small but mighty ranks. The underlying premise of the Starlight (Brides) Lottery being a job opportunity but secretly a marriage contract is the commonality between all the books but seeing how the different authors turn out such wildly different and fun stories is a blast every single time.
I LOVED how the author solved the issue of seeing and breathing underwater for our human FMC and I'm super jealous of her experience. Both the male and being underwater! Our MMC is honestly such a sweetheart and I think this part of the 'omg what is happening' conversation our main characters have when they meet illustrated that beautifully: “Be calm. I will not force you to stay with me if you don’t wish. How about we make a deal? Stay with me and pretend to be my bride until my grandsire leaves our world. He is very old and does not have long to live. He’s why I went to Starlight Brides. He wishes to see me happily máted before he goes.” Vera stopped struggling. “You got a mail-order bride because you wanted to make your grandfather happy?” “Partly, yes. But also because we do not have many females left. And I do not wish to spend the rest of my days with the ones who remain.” It wasn’t that I didn’t catch the attention of our remaining eligible females. I most certainly did. But it wasn’t me they saw, but my family’s fortune. At least with Starlight Brides, Vera had signed the contract without knowing what I was worth. Well, technically, she’d signed the contract not knowing she was going to be a bride at all. But it was too late to fix that mistake now. “Be my wife, just for now. After we put my grandsire to rest, I promise I will bring you to the human colony on the main island if you do not wish to stay with me.”
The way that we go from this shaky ground with temporary partnership to the Happily Ever After they so richly deserve is deeply satisfying. I'm so happy to have been able to read this love story. 5/5 Stars
After a series of events leaves her jobless and homeless, Vera applies to work as a marine botanist on an alien planet through the Starlight Lottery. Unfortunately, when she arrives on Aquaria, she discovers that instead of the job she thought she had, she's been selected as a bride for the Triton Cetius. Cetius is just trying to make his grandfather happy and avoid the gold-digging actions of the available females. As Vera clearly isn't looking to become a wife, they make an agreement. Pretend to have a marriage for one year, and if Vera wants, she can leave to live on a human colony. But as they get to know each other, they start to appreciate each other, though others are upset with their attachment.
I enjoyed Vera. She is fairly practical, and more than willing to go with the opportunities that she encounters. While she's upset with the underhanded switch that the Starlight Lottery pulled on her, she's open to new experiences. Her willingness to experience completely different living conditions and her flexibility to go with the flow is admirable. In comparison, I had a harder time appreciating Cetius. He seems to be somewhat wishy-washy on what he wants in regards to Vera. I think he was supposed to be changing his mind gradually as the story went on, but it failed to come across that way. I would have liked a more noticeable change in attitude to have occurred to really cement Cetius's growing feelings.
Alien Triton's Prize is a fun alien romance novella within the Starlight Brides series. It was a fun, quick read, with lots of fun descriptions of living in the ocean.

Vera has been living on a space station since earth has become unlivable. But when she finds herself unemployed and homeless she applies to the Starlight Lottery Program for a job. Surprisingly, she has an offer the next day and leaves. But when she arrives at the planet Aquaria, where her job as a botanist is, there is only one man there, a Thalassonian. He is one of the native underwater inhabitants of the planet.
Cetius has requested a bride from the Starlight Brides company. His grandfather doesn’t have much time left to live and his one wish is to see Cetius happily married. Since there are very few females left on his planet he is forced to look elsewhere. He is very pleased when he see’s Vera, until he finds out she is there for a job, not as his bride. When he finds out the company is tricking women with fake contract’s he is very displeased. But he and Vera work out a deal. She will live with him for one year to please his grandfather, and if she wants to leave after a year, he will take her to the small colony of humans on one of the few inhabitable islands.
These two are very cute together. Learning to adapt to living underwater is a challenge for Vera, but Cetius is there to help every step of the way. And her natural curiosity as a botanist has her very interested in everything there. Maybe the Starlight company knew what they were doing after all! But when danger comes calling, will these two be able to survive long enough to really get to know each other?.

Earth botanist Vera (h) wins the chance of a lifetime through the Starlight Lottery. Expecting a new job on the aquatic planet Aquaria, she’s shocked to learn she’s been sent as the contracted bride for Cetius (H), a Thalassonian, an alien merman-like native of the planet. Bound by a mysterious contract that changes before her eyes and unable to return to her old life, Vera agrees to stay with Cetius for one year to allow him to make his grandsire happy that he's finally married. Cetius, burdened with family obligations and a business to run, finds himself falling for Vera, despite their relationship starting as a practical arrangement. As Cetius helps Vera adjust to life in her new underwater home, their bond grows deeper and things heat up between the two. But dangers threaten their future, putting both Cetius and Vera in the crosshairs of a scorned female and Cetius's own family. The heat between Cetius and Vera was so very intense and quickly built, though Vera did wonder if there was anything there for to work with and she end ups realizing that he had more than what she needed, though poor Cetius kept thinking he had to hold back. The "sweetheart gills" was such a lovely concept - a part of Cetius would sustain Vera and always be with her. Loved that Cetius and Vera could build a life that allowed them to share adventures together and that Vera could continue her botanical interests. Ultra-hot and steamy alien-human romance, exploring love, connection, survival, exploration, new beginnings, and belonging.
💙 “I would have you with me forever if I could.” ~~~ Vera is awesome! She’s kind, compassionate and understanding. Even more, Vera is smart, curious, adventurous and always ready to uncover nature’s beautiful mysteries. This lovely botanist is an amazing woman and I loved her very much!
And Cetius is a spectacular male! He’s rich, gorgeous, caring, loyal, considerate and fiercely protective. Even more, he’s a bit arrogant and quite the workaholic. And he’s willing to do everything in his power to make the people he loves happy. Cetius is incredible and I adored everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Vera and Cetius! After an unfortunate series of events, Vera decides to join the Starlight Lottery and is offered a job on Aquaria. That’s until she arrives there and discovers that it’s not a job that she signed up for, but a marriage. I loved Vera and Cetius together! Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start and I loved every moment they spent getting to know one another. Even more, I loved how supportive and understanding they were of each other. Vera and Cetius were truly kindred spirits. So, what started as an arrangement for a year, quickly became so much more. And I loved getting to explore Aquaria as Vera did! Even though not everyone was happy with their marriage, Vera and Cetius were absolutely perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of them.
Overall, the story is another fantastic addition to such wonderful series!
Alien Triton's Prize by Lynnea Lee is a standalone sci-fi romance, part of the Starlight Brides series.
For those that enjoy exploring galaxies and sexy aliens, and for those that like mythical creatures (i.e. mermaids/mermen/merpeople), this is a light and fun romance that has plenty of steam and heart. The main trope that this story launches from is a mail order bride type of set up, where a human female is unknowingly sold into marriage. So, in saying that, there is brief mention into trafficking humans, but nothing is really explored in terms of punishment of the agencies that trick the people signing up for a "job".
The story also uses the trope of rich business who needs a fake relationship and has no intention for romance, and so might intrigue some people. It's a fun and simple concept but it is effective. Also, this means that as a reader we get to explore the underwater world of the Thalassonians through Cetius on the planet Aquaria alongside human woman Vera. For a sci fi romance, there's a lot of romance and charm as these two learn to navigate being around each other, and Vera comes to terms with living underwater.
I really appreciated all the technological touches Lee added that made Vera's life easier and felt easier for me to accept the world that was being built as I read.

4.75 stars. Vera, the female human botanist lead, thought she’d signed up for a job. Unfortunately, Cetius, the male merman lead, knows he paid for a mail order bride. When Vera shows her contract and words change in front of their eyes, they know she was tricked, but Cetius needs to convince his aging grandfather that he’s settled, so they negotiate a year together.
Whilst the attraction is real, there are a few cultural/lifestyle differences interfering with their interactions, plus Cetius is establishing himself as head of his grandfather’s trading company instead of his slightly older, much less mentally stable twin. Can they build a relationship?
This novella is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, fantasy, mail order bride romance. I enjoyed Vera’s flexibility and willingness to work with her situation. I enjoyed the way the lead characters’ interests aligned. I enjoyed Cetius’ dawning awareness that he had options and that he could choose to engage with Vera in more than an intimate fashion. I enjoyed their intimate encounters and was amused by Cetius’ self-inflicted pain because he didn’t ask questions and made assumptions about Vera and her capacity. I enjoyed the secondary characters, and there’s a couple I would like to see stories for!
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I really liked this book. It’s part of Starlight Brides, which includes standalones by multiple authors. Lennea Lee’s writing style was engaging, the plot was flowing and the characters where interesting. I really liked Vera and Cetius. They were both good, honest, smart and brave and I loved their dynamic. Vera was tricked by Starlight Lottery. They promised her a good job as a botanist, on an alien planet, but in reality, Starlight Lottery is Starlight Brides. Their job is to pair and marry off women with compatible alien species. So, she finds herself on planet Aquaria and Cetius, her contracted brand-new husband, comes to meet her. He is a wealthy and, well, very good Thalassonian. He is to inherit a company by his grandsire and he wants a bride to make the latter happy. His passion is travelling and discovering new things, though. So, this is where their story starts. What will Vera do? Will she be willing to stay with Cetius as his bride? And under what conditions? How will Cetius react to his intriguing new bride? What is the role of his brother in all this? I couldn’t stop reading to find out! 5 stars.

this was a wonderful delightful story to read. vera is a human female who gets in trouble at work so gets fired, finds her bf cheating and ends up homeless. so she applies for a job off planet with starlight lottery but when she arrives on her new planet its to find out she's been tricked into being a bride to an alien. Cetius is a merman and doesn't want a bride but applied for one to make his dying grandfather happy and he's paid alot of money for a bride. so vera and cetius come to an agreement for a fake marriage for a term of time but after meeting Cetius the fake marriage starts to feel oh so real and both are realizing maybe this isn't so fake after all esp when they have marital relations. but someone doesn't want them to be happy and is out to harm. will vera want to leave when her time is up? will cetius realize he really does want a bride after all? and can they prevent the person after them from succeeding? This is a shorter read with a fun quirky plot, uniqe story line and great world building esp under the ocean. the descriptions are fantastic. my only complaint is it could have been a little more spicy where spice was happening esp for the epilogue.

Vera, thinking she was heading to a new planet for a new botanist job, is tricked into signing with the Starlight Brides program. As a result, she’s unwittingly married to Cetius, a Thalassonian, which is a species she equates to mermaids. Once Vera expresses that she didn’t realize she was being married off, she and Cetius come to an agreement: if Vera can stay with Cetius for a year to appease Cetius’ grandfather’s dying wish, she is free to head back to the surface after that time. Figuring that a year isn’t too long of a gamble, Vera agrees. But will Cetius’ twin brother throw a wrench into their plans?
This book was so good! The spice was minimal but DELICIOUS, and it was so interesting to try to envision the world that Lynnea built. I was fascinated but a potential life under the sea!
Tropes in this story: ✨Merman x Human pairing ✨Arranged marriage ✨Male with a multi-pronged, er, appendage ✨Fated mates ✨”My wife” moment *swoon* ✨Wifenapping and attempted unaliving!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via the author, but my review is all my own.
Vera needs a fresh start after loosing her job and boyfriend all in one go! The Starlight Lottery is the best option to find a job on a distant planet as a marine botanist. This is the perfect solution! Well, that’s what she thought until she arrived on Aquaria and was told she would be marrying an alien merman!
Cetius needs a bride to help put his grandfather at ease about him settling down and starting a family. He contracts the Starlight Lottery for a bride and is happy with Vera. When he finds out she was tricked, he makes a deal with her to have a fake marriage for a year to appease his grandfather and then he will take her to the human colony on the planet. She agrees with every intention of going to the colony but the more time they spend together, Vera finds that having a merman husband may be exactly what she needs.
This was an adventurous short romance with great world building. A whole world under the ocean creates quite the scene for an epic adventure. A slow burn romance and interesting storyline round out a great first edition to this new series!

After losing her job when the owner’s nephew, her boss, tried to misbehave with her, Vera, a botanist specializing in marine plants, is fired and decides to get far away by signing up for the Starlight Lottery. A new start should definitely be easier on Aquaria where she is a total stranger! Instead she finds out that she and the Triton Cetius had been automatically married as soon as they both signed the initial Starlight contract that now dealt with providing brides to the aliens! Even then, her life is still in chaos since the merman-like Cetius doesn’t actually want to marry her. He instead hopes for a short-term pretend relationship to satisfy his dying grandsire. Later, she can choose where she wants to live, above in the human village or below the ocean’s surface. But as they get to know each other better, will the attraction they begin to feel bring them closer to wanting a real relationship? Will others try to interfere in their lives, especially since Cetius has become wealthy through his inheritance? Or will Vera choose to leave Cetius at the end of her promised one-year marriage commitment period?
This was a very interesting book and I do love a romance story and when you throw in a Planet underwater just did it for me and who wouldn’t want a sexy merman. Vera has had a bad day with her handsy boss who she complains about and soon gets fired and upon returning home she finds her boyfriend in bed witth the girl next door and she has had a enough and signs up for the Starlight Lottery hoping for a fresh new start bbut what she gets is her wedding to Cetius. Cetius is a Triton merman on an aquatic planet that has just agreed to a wife to keep his grandfather happy before he dies but he doeesn’t really want a wife and so they agree to a fake marriage and go there separate ways after 1yr but when he meets Vera and they start to get to know each other he realises she is more than he could of ever imagined and isn’t a gold digger like the other females. As there attraction grows not everyone is happy about a human being with him as they watch them fall in love. How does it all turn out in the end. Get this book to find out I loved it.

I loved Alien Triton's Prize! Probably because it gave me Little Mermaid vibes 😁 except Vera is a human sent to live underwater on planet Aquaria by the Starlight Lottery (or should I say Starlight Bride? Ha!).
Yes, Vera wasn't technically aware that the contract she signed was actually a marriage contract to Cetius, "an extremely sexy, and kind of scary, merman Ken doll" (her words, not mine).
Cetius, being a billionaire merman and all that, paid a hefty sum to get himself a bride to please his dear grandpa before his impending death. He convinced Vera to stay on as his bride for a year to sell the ruse, and then she could be free of him if she wished it so.
"Maybe this setup wasn’t so bad after all. A hot merman husband, a gorgeous home, and all the plants I could ever hope to study. What could possibly go wrong?"
I won't get into details as to what went wrong, but let's say it involves an entitled twin brother, and maybe poison. But all is well that ends well in the beautiful city of Coral's Deep 😉.
Once again we are enjoying another Starlight Brides novel by Lynnea Lee. The story is full of action and drama around Vera who is a human and has been contracted by the Starlight Lottery that has sent her to a new planet for a new job, but what they forgot to tell her was that she was part of a mail order of bride contract where she arrived at the new planet, already married to her husband Cetius. He is one of the Thalassonians who are almost extinct because of a war that happened on their planet, where most of the women died because of a toxic poison. Vera and Cetius come to an arrangement where they can dissolve the marriage after a year, but once she gets used to where she is and her husband, she finds herself in love with him and he realises that she is his true mate. A lot happens between these two before they reach this pinnacle moment in their lives and go onto to live happily ever after. I absolutely loved reading this story, and I highly recommend it to those who enjoy this kind of book.

Starlight Brides is a great new series that can be read as stand-alone stories. However, there is a little more back story about the Federation and Starlight Lottery in previous books. Each book so far is set on a different planet with aliens the "lottery winner" has not been in contact with before.
This story takes place on Aquaria which is predominantly water with ever shrinking land masses. Volatile weather ensues immediately after Vera arrives and finds out she is already married! Requiring her to put her life in the hands of a total stranger, errm new husband.
This sets up the story under the sea along with a near miss as her new hubby didn't read the instructions. A very imaginative world for a land dweller that is packed full of technology with a nautical twist. There is a happy ending after some missteps and plot twist. This book deserves to be added to your TBR list. Forget that, read it now a great new world and potential underwater series I hope.

Vera applies to work as a marine botanist on an alien planet called Aquaria. But the Starlight Lottery is a deception that provides brides for the Triton males. The female Triton population has died off after devastating wars on Aquaria. Upon arrival she meets a man that resembles a merman. Vera discovers that instead of the job she's been selected as a bride for the Triton Cetius Cetius is just trying to make his grandfather happy. He is his grandfather’s heir to run their business. His twin brother is not suitable to take charge. So Cetius wants to show his grandfather that he is happily married. However, Vera clearly wasn’t expecting to become a wife. Cetus makes a deal with Vera. Pretend to have a marriage for one year, and then she can leave to live on the human colony. Cetius and Vera begin their journey as a couple navigating each turn and twist. Good story that has surprises, adaptations, ocean world, adventures, chemistry, danger and evil twin.

📖 Summary: Alien Merman? Yes, please! This was such a fun and lighthearted novella. Very low stakes, just a dash of family drama. It’s a mail-order-bride program… except Vera thought she was just taking a new job 😅
📚 Bookish Moments: Vera and Cetius were a perfect match, and I loved how quickly they clicked. Cetius’s sister was such a girls’ girl — supportive, sweet, and immediately on Team Vera. Also: I’m still blushing about his triton 😳💦
🌌 Worldbuilding: Short and sweet, but surprisingly immersive for a novella!! I loved the underwater cities and all the fun tech — it totally made me want to live in Aquaria.
💭 Final Thoughts: This was pure joy from start to finish. Vera and Cetius forever 💕 I’m officially obsessed and diving into the rest of the series!

It wasn't long but the story was really well developed, I liked how the relationship started and even though there were some miscommunications because of their cultural differences both MCs still tried their best to talk things out... The underwater world the author presented was really interesting, I haven't read many books with water dwelling MCs but this one was an interesting take... I liked the differences in living underwater for our human FMC, and how she adapted... And MMC trying his best to learn more about humans was sweet. I also liked how they both found things to share and enjoy together, which brought them closer, and the ending was good. Overall it was a short and sweet read with just a tiny bit of action...
POV: dual (both MCs) Tropes: mail-order bride, marriage of convenience, alien MMC/human FMC. Spice: medium (two detailed scenes), alien peen. CW: kidnapping.
Vera and Cetius. Vera, human, thought she signed up for a job, but it turned out yo be a mail order bride contract. Those sneaky so-n-sos at Starlight Brides, they changed their name so she didn't know it was brides and not a job agency. Now she stuck on a wet planet with a merman like husband. A cute one at that. Cetius,Thalassonian, knew his wife was human and had her external gills ready. When he personally saw the contract change name and language infront of them both on her tablet, he knew she was tricked. He offer her a out if she posses as a fake bride for his grandfather for one year, then he'd send her to a dry land colony if she still wanted out. This is the start of their courtship and adventures towards try love. Wonderful story, lovable characters ( most of them), entertaining, action, adventure, danger, true mates, steamy, betrayal, dysfunctional family, and HEA all under the sea.
