Rate this book
Read the thrilling conclusion to the Celestial Whispers duology.

The stars have fallen. With war on the horizon, the only way out is through death itself.

The stars’ conquest is in full force, and their leader, Rigil, will stop at nothing to subjugate all of humanity. In the midst of their grief, Iyana and her companions must turn to the gods for guidance, and they’re not all welcoming to mortals.

Only the first Aztia can teach Iyana how to banish the stars once again. But the only way to reach her is to send an emissary to the afterlife, and there’s no guarantee the gods won’t get to them first.

Meanwhile, Rigil’s reign of terror is only spreading, and he’s hells-bent on ending any chance of retribution. When Altair is tasked with hunting Iyana down, his loyalties are put to the ultimate test. As intense as ever, he’s no one’s slave. But what does that mean when he’s commanded to kill his former lover?

An unforeseen ally. A willing sacrifice. A voyage into the unknown.
Can destiny overcome deceit? Or will humanity fall next?

Can I rate a book more than 5 stars?
Huge thanks goes to Jeannin for allowing me to receive an ARC copy of this book. This book has been my most anticipated release and I can say it lived up to the hype I created for myself.

Jeannin has this way of evoking so much emotion just with the words she puts on the page. You can truly feel the pain and grief the characters go through. The book picks up right where we left off in Secrets and Stardust, and let me tell you what.. the first three chapters.. you better have your tissues ready. I laughed, cried, and yelled at the book so many times but the ending was all worth it.

I loved seeing the growth of Iyana throughout the whole book. Not just with her powers but with her relationships too. Emmeric also has some amazing growth in this book as well. Watching how he cares for Iyana and seeing how much he loves her is just *chefs kiss*. Kaz is still unhinged throughout the whole book and I am always here for it. These characters are a true definition of what "found family" looks like. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them at the end of the book but it was truly the perfect ending.

Deceit and Darkness is the second book in the Celestial Whispers Duology and honestly it's my favorite of the two. It is so hard to write a second book that outshines the first but Jeannin was able to do this hands down. I highly recommend reading Secrets and Stardust as well as Deceit and Darkness. I promise you will love these characters just as much as the rest of us. Don't worry there is some real good spice in this one too!

ARC Review—SPOILERS!!

AMAZING conclusion to this story!!! Loved this duology so much! I was instantly hooked in book 1 and book 2 did NOT disappoint. I loved seeing Iyana and Emmeric really come into their own when it came to their powers as the Aztia and Kanaliza the development and progression during each fight and battle just kept getting better and better. Even though there wasn’t a whole lot of description of how they necessarily worked on that or got better at it it was a more so implied idea that it’s a gut feeling instinct that they had to hone in on with more practice and trust between them. I was SO relieved that Iyana was able to save Talon and bring him back from the dead because that plot twist at the end of book 1 really was just as heartbreaking as Altair’s betrayal. With Iyana actually being his star mate I had no clue which way the love triangle was going to go, but I am very happy with the way things worked out. If Altair had made different decisions, then sure Iyana could’ve always been with him, but because of his decisions and how he wanted control of Iyana in certain aspects it just made more sense that Iyana and Emmeric were more of the perfect fit together and them dreaming of each other in book 1 really solidified that for me. I was always rooting for my man Emmeric so when Iyana FINALLY started to let him in and see that he really loved her and was always going to be there for her wholeheartedly and care for her and never hurt her I was giggling and kicking my feet!!! I really liked how Altair’s family didn’t let him get away with any of his bullshit and called him out for his actions. He single-handedly ruined his relationship and they made sure he realized that instead of babying him or catering to him. I was always suspicious that Altair killed Mata Imo, but that sucked so hard finding out that it was true. Character development wise, Altair did redeem himself by the time he was killed he proved he did love Iyana in his own was because he was willing to sacrifice himself for her and willing to walk away from his mate for her to be happy. His death stung because he was winning back some trust again. Watching Iyana fall in love again was so healing and seeing Zane and Talon heal each other after their painful traumas was so emotionally damaging in the best way! The plot twist of Kaz being a goddess (Gana) reborn was so crazy but makes so much sense because of her personality and her vibe and character! If there is a spin off series, which I would happily enjoy to dive in to, I hope it will have some more of Kaz and Yrza on adventures looking for Elena. Was Elena hiding inside Iyana’s mind this whole time or can she appear in anyone’s mind as a fire lady? Was Elena the owl that lead Emmeric to the book in book 1? Will we learn more about Khollo’s Downfall? I need answers! The artifacts were an interesting play at the big final battle and while it sucks that the Lurra took out Scuti I know he was happ to be reunited with his mate. I didn’t see Uther as a wailer being in the battle coming as a twist—that was unexpected, but it provided Zane that opportunity of redemption that he needed to overcome his guilt of not being able to beat Uther before. I wish there had been a way for a few of the “good” starss This duology and magic system was so unique and different to other romantasy books out there and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Emmeric is one of my favorite book boyfriends by far. I also LOVE that Jeannin takes the time to create Spotify playlists for both books that match the vibe!! New music along with a new book is always a win win! HIGHLY recommend this duology to everyone who is a romantasy fanatic!

A book that left me feeling on-edge, elated, giddy, shocked, devasted, hopeful, and ultimately spent all in one.

This was such an epic conclusion to Iyana's story. The multi-POV story lived up to book 1 in the series, which isn't always the easiest to do.

There were many revelations throughout this story that were so fun and surprising, and some that made me cry (I don't really cry during books, but Jeannin got me twice).

This book kept the reader busy, even when our characters in one place we were never really standing still. Following the events of Secrets and Stardust, most of our characters had some STUFF to sift through.

Deceit and Darkness didn't shrink back from any of it, and our characters (and the reader) have to work through them.

There is so much more groundwork laid out for additional spin-offs from this world, which is so exciting. Additionally, not a fan of plot holes? Jeannin closes all of them. Even ones that you probably didn't even think of.

If you loved Secrets and Stardust, you'll love Deceit and Darkness.

Overall: highly recommend

This duology is just incredible!! Team Save Arinem feels like watching FRIeNDs in a dark romance setting! The friendship, relationships, and the fun banter and nicknames are everything. And the turmoils they face, they face together as a team, and stand with each other no matter what. You feel this kinship with them while you are reading.
Seriously, you’ll need to go read the duology to see for yourself.

I have to many favorite characters.
The character growth is amazingly done. And the love triangle! Omg the love triangle is the best I’ve read in a long while. If you are a why choose girlie, you would still appreciate this love triangle. Trust me!!

Don’t want to give too many spoilers but we get to see ALL the Daddy stars that have fallen. Yes, the stars are people/entities/gods! They are magical! We get to see into the magic of the realm and the stars. Team Arinem against the stars! It’s epic! Read it now!

4.5 ⭐️

What a fantastic conclusion to this duology! I really loved the Celestial Whispers books, and I think Deceit and Darkness might just beat Secrets and Stardust for the top spot. The first book was fantastic as well, but I loved the way book two builds upon that.

Though I wasn’t expecting to, I found myself choked up during parts of this book. Jeannin does a phenomenal job invoking the emotions of the characters within the reader. I was struggling right there with Iyana, Emmeric, Zane, and even Altair.

This duology really centers on found family, and I’m genuinely always a sucker for this trope. Seeing the growth amongst Team Save Arinem was really great. The love they all held for one another was just so touching and an absolute joy to read about.

I highly recommend the Celestial Whispers duology. It’ll have you on a rollercoaster of emotions, but I promise it is so worth it!

Thank you Jeannin Counts for the early copy of Deceit and Darkness. All opinions are my own!

Deceit and Darkness is a compelling sequel that delivers a satisfying conclusion to its story. Jeaninn Counts does a great job tying up loose ends, making this an enjoyable read for fans of the series.

One aspect that didn’t quite work for me was the heavy reliance on narration over dialogue. While the story itself is engaging, I found myself wishing for more interaction between the characters to bring certain moments to life.

That said, I would still recommend Deceit and Darkness to romantasy readers—especially those looking for something beyond the usual Fae-centered worlds. If you’re in the mood for a fresh take on fantasy romance, this book is worth picking up!

I cannot believe this is the author's debut series. It's truly so well written and I'm thrilled to have been able to get a review copy of this book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - after reading this one I can definitely say this series is re-readable. She did such a great job giving the characters depth. I feel like the plot flowed well and everything came to a close.

🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 - I think there's more plot than smut but this one has a good chunk of smut, especially compared to book 1. It's pretty vanilla and nothing I'd consider triggering.

✨ Gods and Stars
✨ Queer Rep
✨ Multiple Spicy Romances

What a stunning conclusion to this duology! I enjoyed watching every character continue their development that was started in the first book. The found family bonds strengthened and multiple characters discovered their sense of worth which was beautiful to read.

The depiction and variety of how the characters dealt with grief was stunning and devastating at the same time. They each processed in their own ways and I was able to empathize with each of them. Grief was a major theme in this book, but so was acceptance of circumstances and authentic love which added a welcome balance to the heaviness.

While I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters, I was glad to see that *most* of them got their happy endings. Others got what they deserved and it was satisfying.

I’m excited to read more by Jeannin in the future!

This book had me laughing- it had me crying. The characters that pulled you in during the first book of the series kept you turning page after page wondering just how this groups story would end. It was marvelous. Good spice and great story while just a touch long. Well done!!!

This was a really stellar second installment, which wrapped up this duology with a big beautiful bow on top. I loved getting to experience this story through so many well-written POVs. Everyone's grief, worries, and romantic feelings were all conveyed realistically. The big moments for each couple were beautifully written. I especially loved the epilogue. I'm a sucker for a happy ending after all the conflict is resolved. #TeamEmmericForever
I'm really looking forward to reading the prequel story from this author in the future!

4⭐️/🌶🌶🌶

Picking up right where book 1 ends. The way Jeannine writes is so amazing. I cannot believe this is her debut series! Everyone needs to read this!! But start with Secrets and Stardust because this is book 2.

I did not want to put this book down. The found family is so strong and the multiple POVs you get really help you feel connected to these characters. I went through so many emotions while reading. Endings are always bittersweet but the way this series wrapped up was perfect. It wasn't a good bye it was a "see ya later". I can tell that there will be more to come in this world and I am excited to see what's to come.

The specifics:

The plot was constantly moving. The pace was easy to follow and I never got bored. The magic system is unique and we continued to learn more about the gods and other kingdoms.

These characters are all my favorite. I was laughing out loud at Kaz but we start to get a different side of her which I loved to see but also missed her big personality on some of the missions. Zane and Tal. I can't. I love them so much! When they meet the parents 😭😭😭 The heartache, grief and healing journey they all went on was so tangible. Iyana grows so much emotionally and physically and Emmeric is PERFECT. No notes (he has more patience than I do 😂). I almost thought she was going to go back to someone...and i felt so bad for Em because even I wasnt sure how she felt at times. The Star additions to the team were great too and a certain someone (reluctantly) redeemed himself.

If I could give this book a million stars, I would. This is one of those duologies that I wish I could have more of while at the same time not being carried out for too long. It's very rare for me to like a sequel more than the first, especially when the first was an easy 5 star read as well, but this is probably my favorite book out of the two. Jeannin creates worlds so beautifully that I can easily picture them. Finishing the book, I had that same feeling I had finishing Harry Potter and Kingdom of Ash. Saying goodbye to these characters was like saying goodbye to friends.

The perfect ending to this duology!

We pick right at the ending of Secrets and Stardust, so I was instantly in tears at the beginning of this story. But we watch Iyana use her magic to slip into the afterlife to bring Talon back. Which, thank goodness, he was absolutely one of my favorites from S&S! But we see him broken after living a hard life, doing things he didn't believe in and trying to make it right at the end. Iyana also sees this, and while she wants him to come back for everyone, she also knows that he might just stay behind. He does come with her, and they struggle a little against the gods who don't want to let them leave.

After the betrayal from Altair at the end of S&S, I do admit I wanted him to make things right and get back with Iyana, especially after we got one chapter from his POV and we see that he truly loves her and she is truly his star-bound match. However, I do think it was good that Altair's brother Okab was able to get through to him that he probably lost her forever. Iyana also has an undeniable bond with Emmeric, and likely would never return to Altair. And while we do see him make things right, it is by sacrificing himself (which honestly, is probably the best way things could have gone).

Team Save Arinem is needed to save the world now from the fallen stars, and they embark on a new quest to get to the first Aztia so that Iyana can learn how to banish the stars back to the sky. Along the way, we get to see Zane and Talon work through Talon's depression and form a deeper love, along with Zane becoming the great leader that his father wasn't. And we see Iyana fully fall for Emmeric and get the happily ever after she deserves with him.

Some favorite quotes:
"He is the one who betrayed us all, and you are not allowed to take the blame for him. I won't let you."
Kaz nodded. "So we go off of vibes then." (seriously, only Kaz would say this!)
"You are my soul, and I'm here for you always. In any capacity you'll have me. If you want to yell at me, have at it. If you want to shatter and fall apart, know I'll always be here to pick up the pieces. Or if you want to rage at the world and set it on fire, I'll light the match for you. Then I'll hold your hand as we watch it burn."
"Like I said before, astalle translates to star heart. But an astalle is a star-bound mate. You were made for me. The universe gifted you to me and you are mine." He growled the last word while glaring at Emmeric. "I gave you my heart, and you stomped on it."
"You can trust him," Altair said. "He's my cousin." "That makes me trust him less," Zane said.
Iyana, and Iyana alone, was the only one he was loyal to. The only queen he would bow to. The only goddess he would worship.
And loving somebody meant wanting them to be happy, even if it wasn't with him.
"You're with me?" "Always, my heart. Until the very end."
Come, little one, let us go wreak havoc across the realms. For there can be no beginnings without endings.

If you love a romantasy with lovers to enemies, angst, love triangle, gods and stars, found family, political intrigue, feminine rage, queer rep, and dealing with grief, definitely check out Deceit and Darkness! Be sure to check out Secrets and Stardust first!

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Deceit and Darkness immediately picks up right where Secrets and Stardust (Book 1) ends, and I couldn’t have been more thankful. I developed such an attachment to the characters in Secrets and Stardust that I couldn’t accept the ending – I needed book 2.

I could not put this book down – I needed to devour it like I did with Secrets and Stardust. I experienced a range of emotions, between crying in immediately in chapter 1, to giggling and being devasted all at the same time. The found family aspect was so touching, and you can’t help but love the mismatched questing crew. They were able to find one another and be there for each other when needed.

Deceit and Darkness has a LOT going on – between the multiple POVs, and the switching of settings. You are never sure where the next page is going to take it, and I struggled to put the book down long enough to cook food, or anything for that matter. Jeannin was able to bring all aspects of this novel to life, and I just wanted to be there with them.

Tropes:
• Found Family
• Slow Burn Romance
• Celestials / Gods
• Mates
• Quests and Adventures
• Touch Her and Die

Book Conclusion: While I am gutted to say goodbye to all of these amazing characters, and this realm, it warmed my heart knowing that a majority of them will live happily ever after. Deceit and Darkness was easily a 5 star read, and I strongly believe it was dependent on the development of the characters, and the amazing journey and struggles that they endured.

Author Conclusion: I am so thankful for Jeannin Counts for allowing me to read this story as an ARC, and I am so thrilled that is has been a 5 star series for me! I cannot believe that this duology was her debut series! I will definitely be reading all of her work in the future. Please write spin offs or prequels because I am not ready to give this world or these characters up just yet.

This book has thoroughly ruined me and put me back together. In fact, I'm still in shock. I'd like to say this book wasn't perfection in every way, but it is. I'd also like to gatekeep this duet, but I can't because it deserves every speck of light it gets. Speaking of which, if you haven't read Secrets and Stardust yet, what are you even doing with your life? Yes, this is indeed peer pressure. Go on. You grabbed it? Good.

If you haven't figured it out yet, this book is a definite 5 stars⭐️ I actually give it infinity, but hey, five is pretty damn good, too.

Anyway, I can't beging to describe how much Team Save Arinem means to me. Literally. I have no words. My heart hurts and cries. And yet, I'm filled with so much love and happiness that it's confusing. My emotions are all over the place, and Jeannin can attest to that. I flooded her inbox with messages and mainly voice notes of me screeching and crying.

So, thank you for being such a light in my dark skies and writing one of the best stories I've ever read. I can't wait to go on more adventures with you✨️🖤

Spoiler free summary: Deceit & Darkness is the continuation of Iyanna and Emmeric’s story from Book 1, Secrets & Stardust. Their search for answers on how to save the human race from an evil tyrant after Emmeric and Iyana find out that they were chosen by the gods to be the Aztia and Kanaliza resumes. Bonded the two must work together in order for Iyana to reach her magic’s full potential. With the help of their friends they all navigate through grief, trauma, love and attempt to find the answers needed in order to save the human race.

The series includes: fated mates, a love triangle, enemies to lovers, lovers to enemies, a queer love story, found family & some of our favorite tropes “you’re mine,” “fuck it,” “good girl,” he falls first and there’s only one bed/horse tropes.

Book 1: Secrets & Stardust ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 2: Deceit & Darkness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed the series as a whole. The side characters Talon and Zane are super likable and the main love triangle between Altair, Iyana and Emmeric is what really kept me reading. The banter and spice was great and the multiple POV’s was done really well. There were times the writing made it a little hard for me to keep reading, I did have to take breaks often because I found some scenes to be a bit long or overly descriptive, however; the writing also made the world building really vivid and didn’t overly complicated the story itself. I absolutely needed to know what would happen in the end for the characters. Book 1 reminded me a lot of when I read ACOTAR and saw all the red flags of the MMC but kept overlooking them. Book 2 continued that same feeling of when you read ACOMAF and just wanted the FMC to give in finally to her bond and end up with who she is supposed to be with. The world building wasn’t overly complicated and I found it fairly easy to get into the story & the quests and action scenes kept me engaged. I appreciated the map, family tree, trigger warnings and glossary as well. If you’re into fantasy series with magic & celestial beings I’d recommend this series to you.

Thank you for the ARC copy!

At the end of Secrets and Stardust, the stars had fallen. Humanity is once again at risk of subjugation and death at the hands of these powerful beings.

Iyana and her companions must deal with the aftermath of grief and betrayal that have come with the death of the Emperor and Altair’s actions which led to the stars falling. War is coming.

The stars’ conquest is in full swing with Rigil the Alpha Centauri at the head. They will stop at nothing until all of humanity serves them. This means hunting down the only being capable of banishing them back to the skies, Iyana.

Iyana and Team Save Arinem must search for allies and armies and even the help of the gods and the first Aztia if humanity has even a slim chance of surviving this onslaught. Especially when they have to contend with Altair reappearing on orders to hunt down the Aztia.

Can humanity and destiny overcome the darkness and deceit? Or will the world fall once again into slavery?

Wow this was a stunning sequel to Secrets and Stardust. So many different twists and turns and lots of spice sprinkled within the pages. The multi POV really helped connect with each of the characters and you really felt the emotions coming off the page. Brilliant book!

This story was beautiful from start to finish. Deceit and Darkness begins right where we left off from Secrets and Stardust.

I could barely put this down. Watching by the characters deal with grief, insecurities, and heart break, as well as love and happiness was palpable throughout the novel and I found myself crying more than once… okay, a lot.

From book one, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Emmeric but I sure know now. His character developed so strongly, as well as Iyana and their connection was beautiful to see. Iyana becoming the strongest version of herself made the story so rich that again, I cried.

Zane’s character was also crafted so beautifully and I loved reading from his perspective often. The stars we met along the way found their way into my heart, especially Scuti. Every character was created and written so well.

This story was excellent. An excellent conclusion of the Celestial Whispers series. I can’t wait for the prequel! I also request we get a side story for Kaz… I need more of her.

Get your hands on Secrets and Stardust so you can dive into Deceit and Darkness. You will not be disappointed.

Can I rate a book more than five stars?

I received a copy of this book from the author and am honored to share this completely honest review!

With an emotionally charged beginning, a found family you'll be jealous of, hilarious banter, and the most entertaining cast of fabulous side characters, Deceit and Darkness is one of my top reads!

The banter had me laughing out loud at parts which I greatly appreciated! But don't get me wrong, the stakes couldn't be higher in this book and there is plenty of tension between the fits of laughter.

Being a duology, I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters. I loved going on this journey with them. I'm feeling bittersweet, since the ending of each of their stories was absolutely beautiful.

If you love adventure, unique magic, found family, levity amongst the tension, and fantasy romances with spice, I highly recommend reading Deceit and Darkness! Just make sure that you read Secrets and Stardust, the first book in the Celestial Whispers Series, first!

Wow! I just finished this ARC, I absolutely loved it. Just like the first book in the series Secrets and Stardust,it was action-pack! At the end of the first book, when Altair stole Iyana's magic and essentially left her for dead in the Dead Lands, I was so mad at the character that I wanted to scream. Iyana had fallen in love with the Star that when stole her magic, he not only broke her heart but also her trust in people. In the second book, after dealing with the betrayed feeling, Iyana was able to slowly start to trust people again. Once she had closure with Altair, and made the sacrifice of dying, she was able to open her heart to her Kanaliza, Emmeric, she was able to defeat the Stars and send them back into the sky again. She and her friends had become a family of sorts. If you read the first book, Secrets and Stardust, you need to read this book, the second book in the dualogy. Jam packed with action, intrigue, love, found family, good vrs bad, sacrifice, and a happy ending. Sign up to do the ARC for this book. You won't be disappointed. It reminds me of the last book in Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. MAAS, A Kingdom of Ash.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

After reading the first book in this duology I couldn’t wait to read the second book! In reference to my first review, the insta-love from the first book did indeed work and made for a perfect set up for this book.

The growth, the redemption, and the grief these characters went through is practically palpable. I gasped, I laughed, and I cried throughout this entire book. The emotions that you feel make it seem like you’re right there with the characters.

The story picks up right where the first one ended. Watching the natural progression of Iyana’s relationship develop with Em was frustrating in the best way. I wanted to scream, laugh, and cheer the entire time. And the growth of Team Save Arinem as a whole as they all fought their own personal battles and dealt with the reality of their situations to become stronger individuals made this book even better than the first one.

It seems like there’s a possibility for future spinoffs and let me tell you, I’m absolutely here for that. I hope there are because I can’t get enough of this world. I highly recommend this series to anyone wondering if they should pick it up.

Wow… wow … just Wow 🤩

I don’t actually think I can put into words. How incredible this duology is🤩 but I’ll try😂 I have never read a book/ books that have made me so happy, yet so heartbroken, so in love, so betrayed, literally all the emotions.

I was so lucky that I got introduced to this universe that Jeannin has created by being an Arc reader for Deceit and Darkness, Ofcourse that meant I had to read Secrets and Stardust and I’m honestly blown away by how much I love them both, I can hands down say these are both my FAVOURITE READS OF 2025 so far!!

The bonds that are created with these characters, the found family, the main love story, the side character love story, the friendships, the magic system with the stars and the gods, everything was perfect, they’re both so well written.

For those that have read both of these, you will understand when I say I cried happy tears at the beginning of this story, because a certain red head is my favourite character, and I was honestly numb after finishing the first book, so I was so happy how this started, but at the same time I was so sad for our characters, the mental health awareness is so powerful in these stories, especially this book! And as an anxiety/ depression sufferer it meant so much to see the characters struggles and how they worked through them! None of it was ever brushed over, it was always explained and past traumas came back to light, where in other books I’ve read similar storylines and it’s never spoke of again after the initial trauma, and I think it’s so important for these traumas/ triggers to be spoken about!! So that was so well handled⭐️

And don’t even get me started on the romance side, this book had the perfect amount of well written spice!! Honestly I had the biggest smile on my face everytime I got to an Emmeric chapter 😍 and Zane and Tal omg 😍 they have my whole heart!!

I loved this world, these characters, even a certain star, who I have to admit his ending made me cry too😭 I’m so sad my journey is over here!! I need more Kaz and even Tal and Zane in my life, I want to know what happens next!! I need spin offs like yesterday 😂

An Amazing, powerful, heartbreakingly perfect story!!
6 Star read from me, for both books in this duology!

3.5/5 !!

I was so grateful to have read this as an ARC! (It in no way emphasizes or changes my decision and my review! I’m always honest abt the vibes & how something made me feel).

I was really excited to see how the story was going to play out & finish the adventure & story between Iyana, Emmeric, Altair & their friends!

I CRIED. Not just teared up, but tears down the face. 🥹 which is always a good sign that I’m in it for the vibes!

It did unfortunately feel long? Like I’d read a few chapters and see only a little progress in % read. Which I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing!! Because I did enjoy the story!
It did take me a long time to just finish it, I was able to walk away and come back to it, thankfully without wondering where the heck I was in the book. It was easy to pick back up. But I do prefer books that take only a few days or a week to finish.

This also was a local author, so I’m really excited to read other worlds & characters & more from this world that she may come up with & write! :)

A beautiful conclusion to the Celestial Whispers duology. Deceit and Darkness picks up right after the cliffhanger ending of Secret’s and Starlight. Ilayna, Emmeric, Zane, and Kaz are reeling after the betrayal caused by Ilayna’s lover Altair, and Talon paid the price with his life. However, Ilayna uses her Artiza powers for help coax him back from the Everlands. Our heroes then start the journey to gain allies in the war against the fallen stars. Along the way we meet new characters, and visit new locations.

I especially love how well Ilayna and Emmeric’s character development was continued within this book and the effect that grief can have on how people function. There relationship is beautifully written and Emmeric has solidified his place in my list of favorite MMC. Ilayna continues to be a strong independent FMC with human flaws that from time to time impedes her judgement in a realistic way.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5!

What an absolute whirlwind of pain, determination, love, redemption and adventure! I was so glad I could immediately begin book 2 after the stunning conclusion to book 1!
I really enjoyed book 1 but I loved Deceit and Darkness even more. It had all the best romantasy elements: ancient secrets, magical battles, spicy love stories, and a fierce FMC rising to the challenge of fulfilling her incredible destiny even while defying the natural order. Counts was so adept at weaving complex emotional responses to the events experienced by this diverse cast of characters! I was surprised to find myself crying quite a few times, even over characters I had sworn to loathe for all eternity!! I particularly enjoyed the conclusion and can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever see new stories about a few characters who seemed to have some unfinished business by the end.
Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book. This review is my own.

Stunning conclusion to the duology!

I love the found family and how much character growth happens. We have lots of trauma and grief in this one and it brings the characters to life so much. Everyone is healing from the ending of book 1 and yet they have to get up and get back at it if they want to save the world.

I loved all the POVs so we could see what was happening with everyone! I have lots of thoughts on a certain someone, but I think it turned out for the best.

Heartwarming & heartbreaking moments made this a book to remember. I just honestly enjoyed this one so much.

Read if you love:
-Love triangle
-Quests
-Grief & healing
-Queer rep
-Gods & stars
-Political intrigue

Thank you to the author for the eARC. My thoughts are entirely my own.
Finish date: 1/24/25, Release date: 3/13/25

WOW 4.5 ⭐️-🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I loved this book even more than the first. Thank you Jeannin for this eARC. So I knew that Emmeric was going to be one of my favorites and I’m glad I was right. Talon will never not be my favorite everything though. The growth of each of these characters and the additions of the stars made this book even better than the first for me. The depth that Jeannin shows in the emotions, trauma, growth, love and healing for all of her characters is nothing short of amazing. I love that so much is touched on as well as the queer representation that also includes touching on the feelings of shame, coming out, and acceptance.

I just can’t tell you how deeply I love this book and what an amazing way to bring this to a solid conclusion for the duology. I felt every single emotions in this book and it healed parts of me in such amazingly deep ways.

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT BELOW

I was so happy to finally get this book in my possession. The first book ended with a open mouth reaction and a heavy heart so I needed answers. The character development in Iyana (FMC) was inspiring and made you root for her till the end. Emmeric (MMC) was also developed in this book very well, it showed his growth, strength and vulnerability which made me swoon for him. Zane was a character I was rooting for in the first book and I loved seeing his growth as a character and as a leader in this second installment. His love story was so endearing and authentic. Honestly, all the characters had their own personal growths and realizations that made them stronger personally but also as friends.
It was sad to let all of them go but the tears at the end were tears of happiness for the whole story and each character.

Heavy on the found family, heavy on the love triangle. Love the celestial history fantasy energy and conflict. Very polite little spicy, long game read.

This is a book was for those who want to soak in a rom-fantasy. It's a lesson in the way we love. A reminder that the kind of love we have doesn't always equal the love we deserve. And above all it's healthy relations isn't it?

All I know really is Emmeric is a flipping saint and that this girl is drowning in responsibility. She does not want to save the world kicking and screaming like let her go home please! To be fair, every moment of this duology I was begging, screaming, please, let us just have a happy ending (it could be said I was on edge)...

Finishing this was that feeling of leaving afternoon tea with a long distance friend, because what.. I'm just supposed to go on with my life now?
