A lowly scholarship girl at Baxter Academy, Keegan has no hope of going to the castle for the Laird’s birthday ball. Until a mysterious benefactor gifts her the perfect dress… Leonardo only agreed to host the ball to appease his mother – he never expected to find his fated mate. Or for her to flee at midnight, awakening his beast’s hunting instincts. The question is…who wants her more? The man, or the beast?
Keegan's King brings a fresh and creative twist to a familiar fairy tale, blending fantasy and romance in an intriguing way. The storyline has a lot of potential and introduces interesting dynamics, making it stand out in its genre. However, the book’s short length causes the pacing to feel rushed, and the narrative becomes choppy. It seems like too much information is squeezed into too little space, which affects the flow and development of the story. While the concept is strong and the characters are compelling, the execution falls a bit short. A longer, more developed version would have given it the depth it needed to truly shine.
I love fairy tale retellings, and I was searching for something Dutch on KU, so I ended up with this series. Yes, Duo prepared me with a handful of useful words to read this - who would have thought that this owl actually teaches you something ;) The story itself is cute, but insta-love/marriage/everything makes it not exactly good. But for my purpose, those 56 pages were just fine and entertaining, and I'll read the next books as well. As expected, Dutch spice is not exactly recommendable, but I think that's a known fact, that we cannot read smut in any other language than English, or it's getting super cringe!
Keegan's status has deminished after her Father's death. Once a student at Baxter's Finishing School, she now has to wash and clean around the School, under her fellow students's gazes, to be able to continue to attend. Her Stepmother won't give her anything, and her stepsisters treat her like she is nothing.
But tonight, she'll dance at the Ball. It's the Lairds birthday, and someone left a lovely dress for her to wear, and sent a carriage to take her to the Castle. Tonight she'll dance and have some fun. No one will notice her....
☁︎ This was a good spicy retelling. It had enough plot to make it interesting and enough spice to keep me there. For only 64 pages it condensed so much and was honestly quite impressive for it's length. I really enjoyed this quick and fun read!
A cute concept and story, but this book needs some serious proof reading and editing. The writing was difficult to understand, the story jumped between sentences, and tenses even changed at a few times. With a LOT of editing and a few extra pages worth of detail this could be a quick, pleasant read.
Keegan and aleonardo were perfect. Leonardo wanted a mate but forced to marry to hold his position, and Keegan demoted from her station in life to basically nothing due to her father dying.
This was the classic Cinderella story with a shape-shifting twist.
A short and steamy Cinderella story. Keegan is a student at a Ladies finishing school, but when her father dies she is left with the crumbs of her previous status and forced to work for her keep. Fortunately for her she receives a magical dress to attend the Lairds birthday party. And that dress changed her life.
3/5⭐️ This is like, if Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Twilight had a baby. The writing and dialogue could’ve been better, but not so bad that I can’t continue. The storyline was also okay, good for a novella. If it was a full novel and the characters were being that haste I’d have trouble finishing it.
This is the first book in a collection, and I’ll give the others a try (I think).
Not a bad read… Short and definitely hot and steamy… A very different version of a Cinderella type fairytale… If you like your stories hot and steamy then you should enjoy this book….
The only gap in the storyline is in the one part or so, it seems, and that is in the middle area. Proofreading or having someone read the story would help. I have seen worse. The storyline reminded me of Cinderella.
A Cinderella retelling! It follows the original story pretty closely just add a lil spice and Bibbidi Bobbidi boo you got the story! Kinda wish the lion ate the stepsisters though.
I was disappointed that this “book” was so short. There really was no storyline, no plot. Boy met girl. Then marriage. Then that’s it. Very disappointed.
It was ok. Nice idea. Didn’t realize how short it would be and the plot is very basic. They meet and get married and then the end. Seemed very surface level with the writing and very A to b to c. I’ve read novellas/short stories before that leave the person wanting more and satisfied. This was not one of those. It was just “oh, ok now it’s done what other books do I have.” As I said it was a cute idea but execution was just OK.
