Well, technically, I've been dead 470 of those years.
I'm bored as hell.
I never wanted this life. I was turned into a vampire against my will and forced to kill alongside the one who sired me. I've lived with my guilt for too long.
I'm ready to face the sun.
Then I meet a man, a human. He's sunshine and smiles. I hate it. It's annoying... but adorable.
Could he be my reason to continue living?
Teddy My life is over.
After receiving devastating news, I go out drinking with my friends to numb it all.
That's when I meet a woman. She's my complete dark, dangerous... beautiful.
I need her.
She takes me back to her place, and the sex is amazing, the best I've ever had. Then I find out she's a vampire.

My thoughts while reading: 🚨ALERT SPOILERS AHEAD🚨
“I don’t care if this woman is a cold-blooded killer; I’d gladly let her take me home and murder me.” Lol me
Black cat x golden retriever will alwayssssssss do it for me every time I love a snarky fem character and a sweet masc character bc it reminds me of me and my gf lol
“She fists my shirt and brings me flush against her body. She’s the one who kisses me.” Okaaaaay Millie yes!!!
“Don’t get me wrong, I love it rough. But sometimes I want to be held like I’m about to break. As if I’m not a cold-blooded killer who’s drained the life out of hundreds of people.” I mean hey don’t we all babes
Yes yes yes dominant cinnamon rollllllll
“Undress and crawl to me,” he orders.” Oh shiiiiittttt
“Um…” Teddy says, standing in the foyer near the penthouse entrance where he definitely heard what we were talking about. “Vampires? Blood lust?” “Shit,” I say. “Shit,” Layla echoes.” Shit
Fated mates 🥰🥰🥰🥰
“A vow for the vamp, offering my soul.” Title!! I always get excited when I see the title in the casual convo of the characters lol
“My vampy babe loves it rough.” Scream this made me giggle 🥰
Layla & Vara??? 👀👀👀👀
Oh shit Henry!!!
“That’s what I thought,” the shifter says. “The vampire queen has a blood mate.” !!!!!!
“I want you to turn me for you, not just for me. Because you deserve love too. You lived all these years thinking you’re a monster, but a monster wouldn’t feel remorse for the lives it’s taken. A monster wouldn’t feel compassion. And a monster wouldn’t put their life on the line to protect someone else. “But turn me because you want this too. Make me a vampire so you will no longer be alone. I don’t want you to ever feel as if you don’t deserve to be happy.” 😭😭😭😭😭
“Why wait that long when the gang’s all here?” I GASPED OUT LOUD
“It’s simple. You fuck. You come together. You drink from each other.” “Sounds similar to how the gargoyles accept their fated mate bond,” Layla snorts. - oh really nowww?
this was everything i hoped for and more! i absolutely adored teddy and millie.
first of all, millie is that BITCHHH. a plus sized vampy baddie who fully knows what she wants and takes it. she could be my queen too if she’d like.
teddy IS puppy. hes the most pure golden retriever mmc and i love every second of it. he is so goofy and happy despite his struggles.
this book is very instalust but that is to be expected from a novella so i don’t think much of it. that being said, we were feddddd the sexiest scenes. the spice was 10/10 out of this world. they were so sexually compatible and it was HOT. on top of that, the sexually fluid nature? i love them.
to top everything off, as someone who was raised on all music, the references in this book had me giggling. it was so much fun!
A Vow for the Vamp is a novella centering on a 500 year old female vampire living in the city. After 500 years in this world, she’s tired of what she is and living with what she’s done and she’s begun making plans to face the sun. This may be a heavy theme for some so definitely check the trigger warnings before you dive in. Millie meets Theodore by chance on the evening she’s making her preparations to depart and quickly realizes he’s not the typical one night stand. The short length makes the story move fast but it never felt rushed to me. Settle Myer has a wonderful, conversational flow to her writing and manages to flush out and develop these two characters so well in so few pages. The spice?! Insane. Honestly, really hot. The FMC is such a body positive plus sized rep and the FMC adores every part of her. Being there for the ride as these characters claim and truly save each other was so satisfying, I read this book in one day. Check this out if you want fated mates, plus size rep, Dom/sub, bisexual FMC and MMC and ultimately a sweet HEA.
Attended “Flirty in Tennessee” where I zoned on this book the second I walked into the vendor space.
The society of vampires in this book remind me a bit of True Blood, except still ‘in the coffin’. Thats fine though, because I clearly enjoy True Blood enough. Millie, our main vampire protagonist being the Vampire Queen of New York City, since the major cities are what have Kings/Queens in this society.
The lore in general was thought out and explained well, especially for a shorter novella. It didn’t feel info-dumped on the reader (which can sometimes happen in a shorter read) but instead just explained when relevant.
Millie’s background is covered a bit in the story, but I especially love the inclusion of having her be from a time where her weight wasn’t a big deal nor does it ever become a negative to her. It’s so refreshingly happy reading from the point of view of a fat character who knows she’s hot.
Plus who doesn’t love a Golden Retriever Boyfriend + Black Cat Girlfriend™️ combo?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Millie is tired. Five hundred years of learning, listening and not loving has wearied her. Leaving a bar after a quick feed and a quick f*** she hits a man in the face with the door, and from there things get stranger. A fun romance with a strong female primary protagonist. She and Teddy are perfect for each other and the sex is terrific. Really enjoyed it.
A Vow For the Vamp is such a great novella because the female main character is the vampire. It's nice for a change to have the vampire be a woman.
Millie is a strong and voluptuous woman who doesn't put up with crap. She was changed 500 years ago by a vampire named Henry. “How could anyone be afraid of a man named Henry?”
Teddy is the main male character who is a golden retriever, most of the time 😉.
Millie accidentally meets Teddy one night leaving a bar. (Such a great pickup situation).
Millie and Teddy find each other just when they needed a reason to keep going. Is it Fate?
So does a one night stand lead to anything more? You need to read this novella to see what develops.
There's definitely swoon moments, and several "oh no" moments. Some I wasn't expecting.
I admire Settle Myers' writing style for its authenticity, clarity, and conciseness. Settle provides just the right amount of detail to keep the reader engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
I love how Millie and Teddy’s story wasn’t rushed or lacking in substance.
I'm hoping this is not the end of their story because I feel like there's so much more.
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Please check the beginning of the book for TW)
My favorite quotes:
"This is what I get for wanting to get high tonight. Alcohol . . . don’t do . . .for me, but drinking the blood of someone who’s intoxicated or stoned does."
"If I let Ana remember tonight, she might go around bragging about her bathroom hookup with a plus- size vamp with the midnight hair and silver and black eyes."
" I’ve never smelled blood so delicious."
“Tell me your name.” His voice is rough, full of demand, . . . "
“Has anyone ever called you Milli Vanilli?”
I’m a vampire queen with a human lover, and they want to know what makes you special.”
"I don’t want you to ever feel as if you don’t deserve to be happy.”
This book fully delivers on the grumpy/sunshine, instalust, and other promised tropes. There are several heavy topics (read the author’s note), but they’re all handled fairly well, considering the limited length of novellas.
In such short stories, the sex scenes tend to feel gratuitous and included at the expense of the plot, but Myer succeeds in making them all extremely satisfying and feel important. She is able to create a fascinating paranormal world within a contemporary time period, and leaves the door open to numerous future stories with all the various monster breeds she includes.
Also loved the fat rep to pieces. A vampire who isn’t ashamed to have been immortalized with a fat body? Thrilling! A love interest who enjoys and appreciates her fat body? Spectacular! Not a single derogatory, fatphobic comment? Ecstatic!
Overall, a very fun and horny read, and I look forward to more from the series!
***Special thanks to the author for providing an ARC***
I really enjoyed this book. It is very fast moving with an instalove connection, which may not be for everyone, but I loved it! There is spice very early on and consistently - which I enjoyed immensely. Millie is my girl! I love that she is confident in herself but still develops throughout this story. Teddy is the perfect golden retriever love interest and brings lightness and joy to the tale. I want to hear more about Layla and this world. This is a short, sweet and spicy vampire story that I highly recommend!
Two lost souls who find each other when they needed something to help them to continue on living. So romantic ♥️
I don’t think I’ve read a book where the vampire was plus-size and we definitely need more of that!
Millie is a 500 year old vampire (not by choice) who is completely over life and then she literally slams into Teddy and the magic happens. Oh sweet Teddy, just a big ol slightly charred cinnamon roll. I loved everything about these two. I NEED more characters like them in books. And when they get together…HOT DAMN. I adored this book. I NEED more of their world.
A sweet and spicy paranormal romance. The FMC is a vampire queen that’s looking for a way out her immortal doom. The MMC is a sweet golden retriever of a guy that is trying to live everyday Iike it’s his last. These two together are HOT and will have you fanning yourself! You’ll be rooting for these two from the start… and hoping that they’re two pieces of the same puzzle!
Golden retriever boyfriend + black cat girlfriend is the perfect combo and you can’t convince me otherwise. I enjoyed this book so much! Millie’s a 500 year old vampire who’s ready to end her life until she meets Teddy, a 29 year old guy she meets at a bar and isnt able to compel. Although this was short, it still felt like a full length book! Settle Meyer had both plot and a lot of spice 🌶️ Some other things I loved was the plus size rep (she’s plus size, he’s described as having a dad bod) AND they’re both bisexual!!
I haven’t read a book all year but this one looked too good to not buy and read. I read it in a single sitting in one afternoon. It was so fun and spicy! Can’t wait to read more from this author.
A Vow for the Vamp was a fun and fast read! I love that the Vamp was a plus size female character. Looking forward to reading more Manhattan Monsters books.
I absolutely LOVED this book, it was such a fun read⭐️ It had a good plot, amazing characters, some mystery, suspense and HOT spice, what else do you need in a book?? 😛 I have posted 5 stars but I would give it 4.5⭐️ but don’t have the option on here❣️
I would absolutely recommend this book, especially for anyone who has watched TVD/TO and enjoyed it🩸, it gave similar vibes especially surrounding some particular 'facts' about vampires/witches and other supernatural beings, and I loved the similarities.
The main characters were so amazing, we got a fierce FMC and a golden retriver MMC who also had a different side to him👀, and the side characters were so good too, I am really looking forward to reading the next book now having met some of the characters that will be featured in the next one❣️
I don’t usually pick up a book like this but as I am seeing this author next year amongst many others it’s worth giving everyone a shot, and I’m glad I have because this book was so fricking good😫, it’s literally the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a long time, and the fact that it gave everything it needed AND it was short? BRILLIANT!
I also have my favourite quotes highlighted if you want to check them out but it will contain spoilers so be careful!!
Some Side Notes If You Will:
OWD/OMD: None at all regarding MMC he’s obsessed with FMC, we do see the FMC hook up with a woman but that’s before she knows the MMC exists SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 PLOT: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 ❣️Plus size FMC ❣️Black Cat x Golden Retriever ❣️Touch Him &💀 ❣️HEA ❣️Age Gap (She’s older)
⬇️⬇️⚠️⚠️WARNING⚠️⚠️⬇️⬇️
⚠️‼️I am now going to go into a lot of detail about the book so the next part of my review will pretty much spoil the whole book so if you haven't read it and are planning to then please avoid reading the next bit!‼️⚠️
The story follows Millie, The Vampire Queen of New York, and Theo, the golden retriever of a man😛
The story actually begins with a spicy sapphic scene with Millie and another woman (Ana)🤭 this happens before Millie knows that Theo exists and we never see Ana mentioned in the story again but just a heads up it happens.
We are also made aware in the beginning that Millie plans to face the sun in the morning which will end her life, she plans on having one last night out and that's it, she has lived over 500 years and doesn’t want to carry on, she finds no enjoyment in being a vampire any longer, she explains how she was turned against her will and kept by her sire for years until she found a way to break free, you see her reasoning and understand why she may not want to carry on much longer.
Now a little bit about the sapphic scene which was HAWT btw🫣 Millie is mainly looking to feed on someone for her last night on earth but ends up unexpectedly hooking up with her last meal (Ana) in the toilets, she does decide to then feed on Ana as well (obviously) but it turns out that Ana is a 'fang chaser' and saught Millie out to be fed on, so Millie does so then makes her forget and goes on about her business, we don’t see Ana again so their little hook up ends here.
NOW we get to where she meets Theo🤭, and it's probably one of my favourite meet cutes ever! As Millie is walking out of the club she was at, she swings the door open stright into Theo's face... So he's now stood there with a bleeding nose and Millie just says "shit sorry" and wants to walk away, as one does. But Theo is having none of it and decides to grill Millie until she at least tells him her name😝She does actually try to compell him into leaving her alone and tells him to go back into the club, but shockingly it doesn't work, she can't compell him… She initially blames it on the fact that Ana’s blood that she drank was tainted with drugs and alcohol so doesn’t think much of it.
So anyway, obviously Millie does think Theo is hot and adorable, aaand his blood smells amazing so she decides yeah fuck it last night on earth let's go and take this man home, which she absolutely does🫢
They go to Millie's home in which we find out Theo is NOT a golden retriver in the bedroom and absolutely loves to dominate, so dominate he does😏, AND we get a crawl to me scene ARGHHH I honestly love Theo! Anyway they get hot and heavy which by the way I LOVE the spice! it wasn't repetitive or boring which I know some books sometimes get that way with spice.
Moving on though, this is where things get interesting. Millie eventually gets a phone call and her bestie Layla arrives at the door and Millie has to step out to speak to her. They end up discussing the supernatural world as Millie is the Vampire Queen🧛♀️ so she needs to know, they discuss recent murders committed by a vampire and so on, now obviously Theo is stood right there when they walk back in having heard absolutely everything...
So her and Layla are now shitting bricks because surprise! Theo cannot be compelled by either of them when they try to make him forget, so you Layla lightly suggest they just kill him🤷♀️Aaaand well let's just say Millie does not take that well when she slams Layla against a wall and says he is not to be touched, I love the possessiveness😫
But after that scene things get a little weird… Theo is obviously creeped the hell out and even though they agreed on this only being a one night stand, Millie does not want him to go and Theo stays. At this point we're not actually sure why Theo stays, he just says he has an idea and doesn't leave, but we don't find out til later why, so it sort of keeps you guessing as to what he actually has planned.
A very interesting conversation happens between Layla and Millie in private where Layla suggests that Theo may be Millie's blood mate, which is very rare but can happen, and that would explain the possessiveness on Millie's side, him not being able to be compelled and also Millie being obsessed with his blood, and Layla being able to tell that his blood is also different… But at this point it’s not confirmed.
So now Millie and Theo are left alone, and Theo has a lot of questions which Millie answers most of them and they just sit and talk for a while.
She reveals to him how she got turned and about her past, which she explains that a man named Henry (that's what she calls him) his real name is Heinrich de la Nova, found her, turned her and made her kill her whole family which included her kids and husband. He made her kill with and for him for years which she became conditioned to do and eventually enjoy it, that’s until he got bored of her and she fund a way to break the sire bond and escape.
Theo then goes into some detail about his past and how his parents were really controlling, which Millie figures out is why he needs to be in control in the bedroom.
Then obviously they then get hot and heavy AGAIN which is even hotter now that he knows because he asks her to bite him😏, which she does agree to BUT she gives him a weapon to use on her in case she can't stop, and she takes control this time, she fully dominates him, ties him up and everything HAWT🌶️🌶️, she does stop in time but not quick enough for Theo as he does use the weapon just before he passes out, all is fine when he wakes up though she's healed and all is well.
Now in the scene that follows we find out why Theo decided to stay and what his idea was, obviously he stayed because he does feel a connection to Millie but he also stayed because he wants her to turn him🧛, so we find out that the same day they met, he was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour and given 4 months to live and he really does not want to die.
Millie initially does basically say no and says that it won't fix anything, as she wanted to end it all because she is one although she doesn’t tell him that just yet.
I’m going to talk about her reasoning for saying no now even though it’s explained further on but this makes more sense. Basically she reveals later on that she promised herself that she will never turn a human as she hated being turned herself, she doesn’t ever want to put another person through that. She also mentions how she was actually scared that in the end when she turns Theo he may just leave her and she will loose him like she lost her family before, and she doesn’t want to end up alone again🫤
In the end she actaully decides to just take him to a superantural being's club of sorts, in this club we actually meet Vera, who is a Sphinx, and we get a little insight to who the next book will be about as Vera mentions that she would like Millie to arrange a date bweteen her and Layla.
Anyway they go into the club where everyone stares at them because the queen has bought in a human and they can all tell that his blood is different. During these scenes we do get to see the rough side of Millie where she is not scared to rip someone's heart out just simply for threatening Theo's existence, WE LOVE THAT.
In the club since it's a neutral ground for all the supernatural beings, she decides to claim Theo publicly in a very hot way in the middle of the dance floor, after everyone sees and knows who Theo belongs to they go outside and have more hot sex🥳
NOW this is where it gets intereseting, out of nowhere Henry appears! And the prick reveals he has been the one killing all the people😤 He is much older and stronger so he is very feared and wouldn’t have been turned in even if he was caught🙄 Henry does actually end up grabbing Theo because of how quick he is and does stab him giving Millie a choice whether to chase him or save Theo, she obviously saves Theo and brings him back to her place where she gives him her blood.
Millie and Theo then stay put while he fully recovers and they discuss how Theo should be turned to be alongside Millie, it does cause a little argument as she questions if that's the only reason he's staying with her, but he breaks down and says he wants to live for her, how he believes they can fall in love.
Now a little side note, Millie explains what having a blood mate bond would mean to her, well both of them, they would both be able to withstand the sun to a certain point, she will cry real tears, which at the moment her tears turn to blood, they would have a beating heart, not much is known but that's how much insight she has.
So they have a heavy discussion, Millie reveals she was actually planning to end it all, which Thoe was having none of and decided to make her forget about it, in great ways😮💨. So Millie decides to have a meeting with COVE the Council of Vampire Elites to discuss her future plans in capturing Henry, turning Theo, and OHHH yeah making Layla the queen instead😨
Millie makes her way to the meeting, leaving Theo safe and sound with bodyguards in her apartment, she attends the meeting makes her ideas known apart from turning Theo, now she doesn't quite get to that as Henry appears with Theo in hand, a very weak and injured Theo. They obviously exchange words and and Henry blabs about world domination and whatever else, since he’s psychotic, Millie just demands he give her Theo back and so Henry does give Theo back ONLY AFTER HE SLITS HIS THROAT!!!
So obviosuly Millie turns into an absolute machine takes Henry down while Layla finishes him off and kills him by stabbing him in the heart with a wooden stake.
Now Theo cannot be saved as they figure out because his injuries are too severe, so Millie right there and then reveals to the council that she needs to turn him, which they need to give permission, she explains the whole blood mate thing and they agree so they begin Theo's transitioning process.
Theo then transitions and spends about 4 days fully asleep before he wakes up as a vampire, during this process Millie speaks to a vampire who has a blood mate and he explains some things, some of what she already knew, but also that she will not have any power over Theo like Henry had over her and it could be severed if desired so by Theo. Oh and they need to complete the bond, how you may ask, oh they just fuck, come together while feeding from each other and BAM bond.
Anyyyway Theo then wakes up as a vampire a HOT vampire may I add because my lord as soon as he wakes up he wants to ravish his woman!! So they ravish each other for a while and complete the bond.
And that basically concludes the whole story, the ending is just an Epilogue where they are getting ready to attend Layla's coronation and it's also explained how the council have decided that they want to start working together more with other superanturals, more than they ever have before. Which sets up the next book nicely as an FFM which I'm really excited for!
Overall it was an amazing read, it was fun and quick, I do wish some scenes were longer such as them defeating Henry as it happened withing a few sentences wheras he caused so much trouble and was made out to be so powerful and dangerous and they took him out so easily, that's the only thing that didnt really make sense but apart form that I loved it and hopefully the next one is just as good if not better!! Highly recommend❣️
Settle Myer writes excellent spice and this is no exception. I was so drawn in to the plot too. This was a fun journey with delightful characters and deliciously spicy scenes!
A quick and easy read with a great balance of plot and spice. I absolutely love the big body representation and how bad a$$ the MFC is. The main MMC had me giggling and wishing he was mine. He's the perfect amount of golden retriever energy with a kinky side that had me clutching my pearls. I really hope we get more of this world and stories of some of the side characters.
🩸 A Vow for the Vamp by Settle Myer 🩸 ✨eARC Review✨
A short and sexy novella about a vamp babe and her golden retriever human hunk? Yes. Please.
I devoured (intended word choice!) this read in one day. It’s short but compelling as hell. Even if this book was another few hundred pages, I probably would have read it so quickly. It’s consuming and engaging, and dare I say, easy to be obsessed with.
Millie is a bad ass vampy babe, and what we have with her is solid representation of a curvylicious woman who is in charge. Teddy is a burnt cinnamon roll and OMG his dominance — unbelievably hot.
What I loved about this story is the modern day setting and acceptance of all supernatural beings being among humanity. I love the idea of this being true, and the folk lore woven into reality with assembly and reason was such a nice, well thought touch on Settle’s part. I’m excited this is the first in an entire series, and I can’t wait to read more.
Would recommend for all my supernatural loving readers! Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 (it’s hot and heavy and well balanced!)
💕 Special thank you to Settle for allowing me the honor to eARC read this beauty for you! 💕
There is so much I want to say about this book, it was amazing, the plot? The meet-cute? The characters stories and the development and the SPICE it was amazing. The only reason it’s not a 5 star is only because I wish some parts of the book were better developed or written in more detail. Other than that this book was great, it hit all the right spots and it never felt repetitive or boring, I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
I love the characters and the plot was so good too, I definitely recommend this book for anyone wanting a good short story with badass characters and hot spice… I mean it was HOOOOOT! For all my TVD girlies, this is for you. The story delves into a lot of supernatural beings and honestly give the TVD vibes, I ate that shit up!!!
!!WARNING!! the rest of this review will contain in depth descriptions and basically a summary of the whole book including plot and ending so please don’t read this if you are planning to read the book!
Where do I start, the book begins with our FMC Millie, she is going out clubbing for her final night, once the sun comes up? She going to face it, she tired of living, life has no excitement for her anymore. We learn about Millie and how she was forced into this life 500 years ago by a man called Henry (his actual name is Heinrich de la Nova but for the sake of the review I will continue to refer to him as Henry), she had a family and a husband but was forced to turn to save them, only to have to kill them and leave with Henry. Our girl has been through some shit and she is ready to let go. Now while she’s at the club we also learn that she actually escaped Henry and his sire using powerful magic and coming to New York to start her life, only to wind up being the QUEEN of new York?!! Crazy but a queen she is, she is stunning, curvy and a baddie so it didn’t surprise me when she meets Ana, someone who was supposed to be her last feed before the end of it all. This is where the first spice scene comes in and damn is it spicy, Ana takes Millie to the bathroom and they have some hot sex before Ana asked Millie to feed from her. From the description in the book, our girl Ana is what is commonly known as a fang chaser, they seek out vampires to feed on them because they find it hot, so obviously after what just went down Millie feeds from Ana and compels her to forget this ever happened. Ana is on her way and we never see the girl again. Except, Ana was drunk and from what Millie is feeling she was also probably on drugs so Millie decided enough is enough and leaves the club.
This is where the story gets good, Millie swings the club door open and smacks our MMC Theo straight in the face, told you, adorable meet-cute right? Theo is a handsome guy, he’s smiling at Millie like she’s created the meaning of love while actively bleeding out. Millie is still fed up and tries to compel Theo to go into the club and forget he ever met her. PLOT TWIST Theo isn’t compelled which obviously confuses the fuck out of Millie because she JUST used her power on Ana and now? That’s right ana was drunk and high so the compulsion not working is blamed on that. Theo and Millie get to taking and eventually Millie just thinks fuck it, last night on this earth so I might as well sleep with this golden retriever cutie so she invites him to her place.
Now despite how cute and fluffy we think Theo is, we soon learn that all changes I the bedroom, he is dominant and ruthless and we even get a hot crawl scene, we love a good crawl scene! While Millie is actively crawling she grills Theo with questions about why he has to be dominant in the bedroom. This is when we learn about how Theo grew up, forced to live his life in a bubble because his parents were so strict, now he has an issue, needing to take control in his own way. ANYWAY they have hot steamy sex and decide that if this is only for one night then they will only part at sunrise which works perfectly for Millie since she’s still set on facing the sun… despite how good Theo’s blood smells and how hard she’s finding it to control her urges around him.
Now along the line Millie ends up getting interrupted by her bestie Layla (who she also has a sexual history with BTW) and they start discussing a feral vamp that has been leaving bodies all over new York, now this conversation is happening just outside the door while Theo is inside, as the vamp queen Millie doesn’t have a choice until Layla decides she wants to meet whoever she can smell behind the door. Theo in the mean time is stood right there after having heard the whole conversation about the vamp and the supernatural council and completely loses it.
Millie and Layla are panicking at this point because neither of them can compel Theo to forget and honestly I did laugh at this because he was like “wtf are you guys on about” it was great until Layla proposes an idea… if Theo cannot be compelled to forget then he should just be killed right? WRONG Millie does NOT like that idea and they get into a scuffle which obviously freaks everyone in the room out, Theo is pacing, Millie is terrified and Layla? She is having the time of her life as she pulls Millie aside to tell her that Theo may not just be a one night stand like she planned but instead her blood mate.
Now a bit about blood mates, the story describes this as a very rare bond between vampires and their human, this is something that doesn’t happen often but it is common to what we all know as fated mates. Theo smells good and she can’t help to be defensive over him, all the stars line up and it makes sense.
After a while Millie and Theo are alone again and Theo is grilling her with questions because of course he is, all while his mind is battling between being terrified and horny as fuck. Which… same buddy, same. I mean come on he slept with a vampire! I’d be confused too lol.
Then again, they have some steamy hot sex and Theo asks Millie to bite him, of course he does… Millie doesn’t trust herself to stop and gives Theo a weapon that he is very reluctant to use until… Millie goes too far and he has to use the weapon on Millie before passing out. Once awake though Millie is healed and all is back to being well and good… until Theo reveals that he’s actually dying and wants Millie to turn him which Millie immediately shuts down. She hates the thought of having to put someone through the life she has, she has never turned someone and never will. They share stories about their past and Millie tells Theo all about Henry and what he forced her to do for years while Theo delves into his past struggles and how awful his life had been before his left for college and gained his control back.
Now after all this Millie decided to take Theo to a supernatural’s club, obviously everyone there is supernatural and a lot of them are rather intrigued by Theo, he smells good to them, his blood is different. Millie our protective queen keeps him safe and things get heated on the dance floor before they take it outside and get steamy outside the club.
PLOT TWIST Henry appears with a victim, Millie protects Theo as always while he’s freaking out over the dead girl Henry decided to bring with him. One thing leads to the other and Henry stabs Theo, he survives the whole thing but has to get a blood transfusion from Millie because his body rejects the blood that the supernatural doctor tires to give him.
Theo wakes up and Millie decided to go to the council to discuss what to do about Henry and possibly turn Theo, Millie hasn’t felt like this in a long time , she doesn’t want to face the sun anymore, she is happy and he wants Theo by her side, she leaves Theo in her penthouse and goes to the meeting where she also discusses stepping back from her role as the queen and instead giving that role to Layla. The meeting however is interrupted by Henry, who has taken Theo and hurt him. Now this is where I wish there was more to read because after this whole ordeal with henry being too strong to defeat and the defences down Layla and Millie manage to kill him? I really wish there was more elaboration on this but the main focal point in the story is that Theo is dying and Millie pleads and begs with the council, they allow her to turn him and so she does.
While Theo is out cold and recovering Millie has a guest, a man who has also met his blood mate and has come to see Millie about her questions, Millie gets her answers and the man leave only for Theo to appear and again, Hot, Steamy and mouth watering stuff happens. We get some scenes where Millie gets to control Theo in the bedroom and they complete the mating bond.
The story technically ends there as the epilogue is mainly set up to lead us nicely into the next book, Layla is having her coronation and is needing her bestie there, they discuss that the council want Layla to start working with more of the supernatural’s as this will strengthen their foundation in the future. The next book is an FFM about Layla, Vera (a sphynx who owns the supes club and a mystery man)
Overall I loved the book, it was the perfect balance between plot and spice and I never felt bored, I had a huge gap in my reading and honestly this was perfect, it wasn’t too long, it wasn’t boring and despite all the information you learn about the supes and the powers it didn’t feel overwhelming or too much. Anyway, enjoy your smut and stay safe out there xx
Millie has been alive for 500 years and, frankly, she's over it. She's guilt-ridden, bored, and exhausted with her prolonged existence. Teddy has just received life-altering (or ending) news and is looking to drink his cares away when Millie smashes his nose with the bar door on her way out. Deciding to patch him up and have one last night on Earth, Millie takes Teddy back to her place.
These two have hot, kinky sex...repeatedly. And I'm here for it. I love a dirty talking golden retriever hero. She even nicknames him 'Puppy'. Teddy learns who Millie is and finds she might be the answer to all of his problems. Millie hesitates to turn Teddy because of her own traumatic past. She also fears the blood mate bond. That's right, these two are a mated pair!
Myer did SUCH a great job of world building without drowning us in details. She always writes such raw, compelling stories and the fact that she was able to do that here, while building a new world, all within the length of a novella is a feat! I'm hoping this world continues, particularly hoping Layla and the gargoyle she's forced to work with are next.
The ARC of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Loved how cute and sweet this book was. I feel like it was the perfect length and explained all the lore in such a succinct way with all the smutty parts there were lol. Would totally reread and can't wait for the next one that comes out next year.
A beautifully crafted story of two lost beings finding each other through fate and forging a path to their own version of a happy ever after.
Millie, a vampire burdened by centuries of guilt and a desire for an end to her eternal existence, finds herself reluctantly drawn to Teddy, a human in the throes of heartbreak and self-destruction. When their paths cross during a night of revelry, their intense connection leads to a passionate affair. As Teddy learns of Millie’s vampiric nature, he becomes determined to join her in immortality, hoping she might be the key to his salvation. Amidst their fast-burning romance and supernatural twists, they must navigate their own desires and dilemmas. This novella, the first in a series of interconnected supernatural standalones, promises fated mates, instant attraction, and a satisfying happily ever after.
At its heart, the story is a testament to the power of connection and self-acceptance. Millie, a character who embodies confidence and body positivity, is a refreshing portrayal of a curvy woman who is unapologetically herself. After all, history and art loved curvy women.
Millie and Teddy’s dynamic are totally opposites that blend together perfectly. He is the puppy to her dominating queen, until they hit the bedroom. This novella is one hundred percent open door spice, and there’s plenty of it. What was originally just a one-night stand, turns into hot, dominating, and bloody sex used to cope and deepen their connection, no matter who may be in the room. There’s a variety of smutty scenes, offering something for all readers.
Rather than the usual chaotic and often violent portrayal of supernatural beings, this novel presents a world where the supernatural are governed by local councils and rulers. This structure offers a fresh perspective, portraying supernatural beings as entities striving for peaceful coexistence and recognition from humans. The dynamic between supernatural and human relationships is depicted as a nuanced blend of friendship and limited resource, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
Overall, this is a captivating read that combines a unique supernatural world with a heartfelt romance. Millie’s body positivity, the fresh take on supernatural governance, and the intense, open-door spice all contribute to a memorable story.
Millie is a vampire who has walked the earth for five centuries, and this immortal life has become tiresome. She is also plagued by the guilt of having to commit atrocious acts because of the vampire who sired her. In a word, Millie is bored.
Teddy is a young man with the energy of a golden retriever puppy. Despite a difficult childhood, he has decided to see the glass as full and enjoy life. In other words, he's Millie's polar opposite.
And yet, when Millie accidentally slams a door in his face, it's a case of instalust between these two characters. They don't know how to define the attraction they feel, but the feeling is undeniable.
This novella was at once funny and spicy, but also dealt with serious and important issues. It's a mix that can be dangerous if done badly, but in A Vow for the Vamp, Settle Meyer has managed to make all the elements work together in harmony.
I really liked this story. The chemistry between the two main characters is just incredible. I also enjoyed the fact that Millie is a confident character who is comfortable in her own body. I also appreciated the fact that Teddy isn't a young man with abs impressive enough to be used as a washboard, but that he had a dad bod that made Millie's mouth water as much as that of an Apollo.
Now I really want to know more about Layla and the gargoyle with whom she'll have to work.
I highly recommend this story, but suggest you read the TWs list before you start.
Thanks to Settle Myer for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
⭐️ 3.75/5 🌶️ 3/5 📖 Settle Myer Release date 12th September
A vow for the vamp is a super fun novella, there were plenty of times I found my self laughing out loud whilst reading this book.
I loved Millie is a 500 year old, sexy bad ass who takes no sh!t plus sized vampire - bored and uninspired she is ready to face the sun when she bumps into (quite literally) Teddy a hot, witty, golden retriever to spark her interest. I LOVE a plus size FMC, what I love about Settle's portrayal of Millie is she is confident and secure in her body. Mille and Teddy have the best banter and chemistry together. Teddy balances out Millie and his sunny personality shows Millie that a life with him is worth living. We met Layla in this book and I was so glad to see that she will be getting her own story at some point. Can not wait to see where her story goes I really liked her interactions will Millie in this book.
The spice spiced in this book we have a FF and FM scenes in this book they were definitely hot and steamy.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a spicy supernatural read, its a quite fun steamy story that you can gobble up. I would suggest you checking the Trigger warnings before reading this book 😉
Tropes ✨ Plus size FMC ✨ Black Cat ✨ Dad bod MMC ✨ Golden Retriever ✨ Age Gap ✨ Touch him and 💀 ✨ Fated mates
Thank you Settle for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Can I begin my appreciation for this book by mentioning the playlist?! Etta James and Otis Redding among others...🥰 I may not be a 500 yr old vampire but I too think about yeeting myself into traffic. Never imagined finding something relatable in a vampire 😅 I tell you wHat. Settle Myer has to be a personal favorite when it comes to plus-size characters. Relatable representation is freaking awesome! Teddy seems adorable and kinda awkward at first and I love this for Millie. I don't think I've ever heard the description "burnt cinnamon roll" before. Oh, I really like the "blood mates" theory where they can truly love ❤️ and experience so much more in their immortal life together. They have that insta lust, unmistakable attraction, and Millie's quickly kindled territorial urge. Oh, this has those foot kicking/giggling to full belly laugh-inducing moments! Ahh, and envisioning Otis Redding as a vampire singing in a club full of supernatural beings is wild.
I can honestly say that I haven't enjoyed any vampire romance as much as this! Thank goodness the author's posts on the socials had a chokehold on my feed!
WOW love it!! 🤌🏻👏🏻Settle Meyer did it again. This was amazingly written with great characters, background and detail and left me wanting more stories. 🙏🏻This was a novella but am hoping for more from this world Meyer created for us to read. 📖 this novella follows Millie a 500 year old vamp ready to end everything when she literally smacks into Teddy a human who turns out to be special … 🤫no spoilers but highly recommend joining them on this ride if the night! 🌃🔥🌶️🥵 you will not be able to stop reading and feeling everything that happened and happens to the characters. It was also cool that there were other supernatural beings mentioned 😍So Great reading something so different and refreshing with a new take on vampires and representation. Believe me I’ve read and even seen a lot of vampire books and movies but this right here, having a plus side female be the Vamp Babe and main character was Genius! 🫦🩸💃🔥 Settle Meyer you’re killing it with your new monster era!! 😈 and we’re here for it can’t wait to see and read what you have next for us
I quite enjoyed this story. It's not often that I read a book where the vampire main character is a female. Millie has had enough of her internal life...she's ready to end it all when a run-in with a sexy human changes her fate. Teddy is also in a tough spot but he doesn't let it get him down...he's simply a happy guy. I loved how both Millie and Teddy were not one-dimensional. They were complex and had multiple layers. Millie was a super strong woman but seemed to like being dominated a little by her "puppy". Teddy, on the other hand, was always positive and going with the flow...but boy did he have a dirty mouth and a hot dominant side. Great to see a plus size female character that totally enjoyed her body.
First off, I'm so happy to finally have a fat vampire. Twilight and so many vampire stories have been telling us vampires shift to "thin beauty perfection" and here we have perfectly sexy plus-size Millie with all her confidence bringing perfect beauty beyond standards. As for the story itself, omg it was addictive 😱. The spice starts quick and strong, the world is intriguing and the main plot got me not wanting to stop until the end. We have a classic black cat, golden retriever pairing that easily open up and shift within their dynamic. And omg the nicknames got me squealing 😍. I loved it so much and I can't wait to dive back into this world.
This was a quick, flirty, saucy, and kinda healing read!!
Our FMC Millie, who happens to be a fat vampire, struggles with depression. After centuries, it’s almost to be expected, especially after her tragic story.
When Millie meets Teddy, our golden retriever MMC, sparks fly (or should I say blood?)
I just loved their dynamic a lot! I loveee a grumpy/sunshine moment, and Millie really showed up and was the growly possessive, protective character we bookish girlies LOVE
This was faster paced, but to be expected with a novella! I’m just so sad I won’t have teddy content anymore, but excited to see what Layla brings in book two!
Ummm how dare this be so damn adorabkle?! I honestly wasn't sure if Settle Myer's writing style would translate to PNR, but OMG this is a delight! I love how 'over it' Millie was, been there, done that, got the t-shirt vibes... which is kinda rare for fmc's (espescially fat gals). I loved the story, it was a unique take on vampire love I think, and even though I usually don't like insta-love, but honestly it's kind of impossible not to immeditley adore Teddy. And can we talk about how this still manages to have heart along side the smexy stuff?! I was giddy reading this- loved it! Settle Myer proves she can do no wrong and is just criminally underrated <3
