We broke the Laws of dragonkind, yet we live, bonded as one mind.
And now we rise from the ashes to burn the corruption from Akalla.
My sister threatens to bring down the eyries one by one, driven by a cruel goddess. Though the Houses have no reason to trust us, we’re their best hope—nothing will stand in my way when it comes to my sister’s destruction.
Together we will claim the throne, and put an end to the infection spreading across the land.
Laws will be shattered. Houses will fall. Alliances will be forged in the fires of war.
And to save my mate, I will make an irrevocable choice.
I will give the life I had, and be reborn in blood and flame.

I wish wish wish I loved this one as much as I did the first book in the duet, but I have to say that this was just not it for me. The main reason is due to it being too dragged out and also a bit too much at times. the plot itself was still very interesting and captivating but could have been done in a more round and clear way. One thing that I absolutely loved in book one and still do in this one is how badass the fmc is as well as any other female character. Incredibly hardheaded and strong and they just know what they want and how to get it and I’m here for it.
*spoilers* I’m disappointed to say I couldn’t finish this. I inhaled book 1, but book 2 was too drawn out, cheesy, and the FMC’s actions became so annoying it was unbearable. Honestly, her character was difficult to like overall. There were several instances that she felt so childish and immature in book 1 (which, I suppose was part of her character arc) which then evolved into her also being downright stupid.
The BIGGEST plot hole/thing that was brushed under the rug is how could the FMC not know the two mistresses were best friends? Like yea, she was in the training grounds, but HELLO, if her mother was that close to the other mistress for years, she’d know. ALSO, she was sent to a prison island because her man witnessed her mother cradling his bloody mother?? He didn’t think to critically assess that a murderer wouldn’t be sitting in a courtyard cradling her victim? Come on. Lastly, your sister is a cannibal and then we’re supposed to believe she stopped eating her the night of “the hunt.” Why wouldn’t Yura have just killed her sister then? Doesn’t make sense!

This was an amazing ending to this story. Sera and Rhylan and the rest of their friends and allies fight against the destruction Yura is making on the eyries as they battle to end the rot she is spreading through the land in her quest for domination. There are some particularly gruesome parts as the battles are fought. The love that has developed between Sera and Rhylan is wonderful as their mated bond continues to grow. Loved that this was wrapped up as a duology and not dragged out filled with endless fluff. Well written and highly recommended.
I’m actually surprised there was some horror in this book but it was done really well. I actually felt unnerved and creeped out by the descriptions of the evil in this book. I think Corvin should dabble in the horror genre, she has a good potential for it.
Overall good dragon series!
I wish we could have seen some flashbacks with Sera pining over Rhylan when they were younger instead of being told through scattered sentences over the two books. It would have had a better impact for the readers understanding of their relationship.
Also I felt Sera’s relationship with Mykah was a bit forced. She acted as if she was her younger sister instead of a young orphaned girl she just met and took in. Especially if Sera’s reasoning for making Mykah her ward was because she was a young Draga who should be treated as such instead of a lowly servant. I just didn’t see the love and urgency suggested to match Sera’s actions towards Mykah. Almost like she was Katniss and Mykah was Prim but without the sister relationship which made it hard to see why Sera cared so much about her. It didn’t seem like she knew her for long to make us understand why Sera was desperate to save Mykah (other than it being the right thing to do to save the young girl).
Cate Corvin finishes her tale in an amazing way. I love how she wove this story and kept me riveted until the end. Sera was an amazing character. She was definitely not a cartoonish 98 pound superwoman beating up on huge strapping hunky men. She was a very believable heroine who knew how to leverage her strength and rely on others stronger than herself for help when she needed it. Her internal and external struggles with her own insecurities while coming to terms with the strengths she already had or was developing lent more credibility to her heroic character. Her mate, Rhylan, (love that name) was also very believable. As a full grown mature male dragon he was every inch Sera’s compliment. He was her strength to her weakness yet gave her room to be herself and allowing her to lead when she could or was able. While this book and it’s prequel we’re told from Sera’s point of view the books made it very clear that she and Rhylan were definite partners in the best sense. Both books are well written and riveting in the storytelling. Well, well worth the read!
While the first book was really big this one managed to fit all the action into a smaller package and leave nothing missing.
Sera and Rhylans story was bittersweet yet a lot of what happened needed to in order to get the final outcome.
Sera learned more about her parents and the reasonings why things were done in this book which I feel helped her grow immensely.
It was a well written action packed conclusion to the duology and hopefully there will be a book or series about a certain young Draga as she tries to find where she came from
Well done, I think this conclusion was wrapped up nicely, I enjoyed the bad guy in this one. They were well done. It felt like Yura was more frightening than other bad guys who do things for power or might or even revenge. *minor spoilers maybe* but the idea of her being this rotting thing because she was hungry, desperate to consume more and more, an empty void was frightening. She was nothing more than a base need that I think humans have felt before. And when left unchecked she consumed everything leaving nothing behind but rot and death. I really enjoyed that concept. Anyway this book and the series itself was at least 4.5 stars. Would highly recommend
I really enjoyed the continuation of this series. I must admit that I actually read the books back to back, and I am really glad that I did, because that cliffhanger of the first book would have made me crazy. Obviously, I have no patience, lol. The characters were great and the storyline was intriguing. I am hoping for more in this world. There is a certain young lady that I want to know more about. So yes, I would absolutely recommend😇
This is the final book in the series. Sera and Ryhlan face many challenges. One of which is Ryhlan being infected and Sera's need to get him back. Yura has been destroying eries and infecting so many. The final battle is upon us and we get most of the answers we have been waiting for. It does leave it open for something new in tge future if Cate chooses a spin off. Wink wink. Loved it
This book was epic! I loved it soooo much. Where the first book was all about Sera finding her way after being exiled, the relationship building along with some political intrigue this one was so mind blowingly different. But in a good way. Lots of horror and gore, so reader discretion advised, but so worth it. I wish there was more. I’d love a spin off but this story definitely had a satisfying end to it. I’ll be following this author.
I apologize that it took so long to review this, when I finish d in early Sept. My cat passed the day after I got my copy. Anyways. This was a great conclusion to the duet. Less sexy parts, but the fantasy and twists were so engrossing, I didn't even really miss it. This book was much darker than the first, and the ultimate battle was really empowering for the women, which I loved. C.C. never misses and this was no exception.
Phenomenal. Truly, utterly phenomenal. I love and adore this duet with my whole heart. The way this plot progressed was nail-biting in the extreme, but I was so here for it. R&S continued to be the latest loves of my life. And that certain plot twist re: ~body type~ (IYKYK) was positively delightful. Some of the descriptions were … descriptive and nearly got me BUT overall an incredible duet that I’m forever glad to have read.
For some reason it took me a bit to read this. I guess the whole I'm to stubborn for my own good was part of it. Was kinda annoying that it went from that to lovely dovey. Otherwise it got really good with the rest of the story. Kinda freaky at the end. Definitely not what I saw coming for sure!
I loved the world building in this book and the different dragon clans, I loved the learning about the Naga and the history of this world. I definitely want a novella with Mykah a few years in the future. Hopefully we can get one, I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters… except Ustrael
This book was phenomenal! I really enjoyed sinking into a new world of dragons that I haven't seen before. I also enjoyed the journey of Sera growing and moving on from the way she grew up and watching her climb over her hurdles. I liked how the journey wasn't perfect and she would stumble a few times. But she had Rhylan right there directing her. It was honestly a good book.
What a great read. This second book picks up right where book one ends and had me glued to the pages. I’m always looking for a unique story with dragons and this one checks all the boxes for me. Epic love, dragons, good triumph over evil and imperfect characters.
Things come to a head in Sera's and Rhylan's final book. Both of which having to contend with Yura and the rot thats been spreading through the dragon community. Great plot twists and turns as well as plenty of fast paced action. A brilliant ending to a great duet that I really enjoyed reading.
I loved this duet!! I would love to see more books based in this world. Cate Corvin is one of my favorites and I cannot wait for more of anything she puts out!
