It's no secret that I love southern fiction, and this book was such a good one! I enjoyed it SO much! This was my 1st book by the author, but I will most definitely be reading more!

Lisa "LeeLee" Moretz is a Charleston divorce attorney whose marriage is on the rocks. When her first love, Peace Smith, shows up at her office, her emotions run wild. But he comes bearing bad news. They're long time friend, Ginny Blankenship is missing, and he's the prime suspect in her disappearance. He says he's innocent and needs LeeLee's help to clear his name. They've all been friends since high school since the day Ginny saw LeeLee and pulled her into the friend group consisting of her, Peace, Rollo, Palmer, Jesse, and Tommy. Ginny immediately felt a connection with LeeLee. It seems they both have the power to see the past, the future, and people's thoughts. Can LeeLee put aside her feelings and help Peace? Can the group of friends figure out what really happened to Ginny?

Told in the POV of LeeLee in the present and Ginny in the past, this was an enchanting read. I was completely drawn in by the characters and the mystery. It was suspenseful and covered some hard topics, like addiction. My heart truly went out to Ginny and Peace. The writing was great, and I loved the atomspheric setting. This book about friendship, love, loss, struggles, heartbreak, and reconciliation is definitely worth adding to your TBR.

Stephanie Alexander does it again! I couldn’t put this book down!! I love when an author takes a supporting character from one series and turns them into the main character of their own story. You are familiar with them and care about them. This was great!!
I was lucky enough to be given an early copy of this book and I’m just sad that I devoured it so quickly.
Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Thank you to Stephanie Alexander for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!

Ginny has gone missing, but to most, this is no surprise as her abuse of substances has led her down dark roads. However, when her ex-boyfriend, Peace, urges LeeLee to look for her, a mysterious email also happens to appear, blaming Peace for Ginny's murder. Past friendships and new doubts will arise as LeeLee, Peace, and their friends begin to investigate Ginny's disappearance.

Mean Low Water explores many concepts, one of which is how the choices we make in life can drastically change where we end up. LeeLee and Ginny may share the same abilities, but one chooses to suppress them while the other embraces them to the point of obsession. Ginny’s downward spiral is heartbreaking as it unfolds. Readers will witness the past through Ginny’s eyes, while LeeLee struggles in the present to find her and keep her own life together.

The investigation LeeLee embarks on will expose uneasy answers. Each chapter will keep readers guessing and changing opinions on what exactly happened and who is at fault. A childhood of friendship will only take people so far. Not all relationships are meant to last. But I’m sure the ending will be nothing the readers expect.

Stephanie Alexander does a brilliant job of painting the setting of a Southern ocean side escape in the reader's mind. From the adventures the friends share together growing up, to the daily interactions between townsfolk, there is no doubt readers will smell the ocean air and feel the customs/culture. And the characters are so well written, filled with life and layers of emotion. Fiction fans need to give Mean Low Water a try. And if you enjoy speculative fiction, even better!

Lisa Lightstone moves to a small town in South Carolina during high school.  She is immediately taken in by Ginny, who recognizes her own foresight in Lisa as well.  Lisa finds camaraderie in Ginny and her friend group, Palmer, Jesse, Rollo, Peace and Tommy and understanding of her gift with Ginny and her mom, Cheryl.  While Ginny embraces her abilities, Lisa, now called LeeLee, prefers to suppress her own. The group remains close throughout college, but as they navigate adulthood and family life, some drift apart. This is especially true for Peace and Ginny, who both succumb to addiction. Years later, LeeLee is working as an attorney when Peace unexpectedly arrives at her office with devastating news: Ginny is missing. LeeLee immediately springs into action, hiring a private investigator and trying to uncover the truth behind an ominous email suggesting Ginny's death. Peace's presence complicates matters, as LeeLee finds herself drawn back to old habits with her ex-boyfriend, especially as her marriage faces its own challenges.  As the group of friends reunites, they rekindle their bonds and rally together in a determined fight to bring Ginny home.

Mean Low Water is a contemporary mystery with a supernatural twist. Centered around reunions and rebirth, the author has developed each of the characters in Mean Low Water fully from teen to adult.  I was intrigued by Ginny and LeeLee's gift and enjoyed seeing their gift in action and the different ways that they dealt with their visions and hearing others' thoughts.  The dual timeline effectively highlights the characters' development and the lasting impact of their shared past.     Through Ginny and Peace's journey, the struggles of addiction and abuse are explored while LeeLee's journey explores family and marriage dynamics.   The author's skillful writing weaves together drama, mystery, and intrigue, creating an exciting and atmospheric Southern drama.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

Lisa Lightstone moves into the small southern town of Asheburg because her mother begins working as a shift supervisor at the local Walmart. Lisa is quickly befriended by Ginny, born and raised in the "burg". Ginny introduces Lisa to her other friends. The bond between Ginny and Lisa, LeeLee, is unique. Both share the ability to receive psychic messages about their friends and surroundings. LeeLee hates her ability and has worked hard to tamp down the psychic images. She has never confided in her mother; only Ginny and her mother know of LeeLee's ability.

As life often does, the friends go many different ways after high school. Ginny and LeeLee have a falling out, and Ginny moves away. LeeLee has a career and family that keep her busy. A familiar face comes to her office; everything changes. Ginny is missing. Can LeeLee use her psychic abilities to find her?

Stephanie Alexander loves the Low Country. Her descriptions of the area are crafted with a love that is evident in each word. Her characters are realistic. It is easy to envision these people hanging out, having fun by the water. Ginny's big and bold personality attracts everyone, and she keeps the group together. This story focuses on friendship and loyalty. What are you willing to do for that one friend who always understood you? In the end, this is a love story, not in the traditional sense, however. It is about love for a place, love for a friend, and love for yourself. Stephanie Alexander has the innate ability to paint pictures with words, and this one is a masterpiece.

Readers looking for a story of friendship and family will enjoy this wonderful book. I also encourage Southern fiction fans to check this out. If you've never heard of Southern fiction, Mean Low Water is the perfect book to start your journey into a rich and rewarding genre.

Thank you Stephanie Alexander for a wonderful book!

This is a story that has stayed with me and I find myself thinking about LeeLee and her friends and wondering what choices I would have made if I was in her situation. Set in the Low Country this is the story of LeeLee and Ginny and their psychic abilities. LeeLee finds a best friend in Ginny and confides in her about the psychic ability that she keeps secret. Ginny also has a psychic ability but is very loud about it. As they grow into adults things become strained between LeeLee and Ginny, especially when it comes to Peace and the way they handle their psychic abilities. Decades later LeeLee has created a life and a family for herself that is rocked when Peace reappears in her life and it is revealed that Ginny is missing. As LeeLee works to discover the truth about Ginny’s disappearance she has to confront her own past and the secret of her psychic abilities. Will she give up her life and love for the memory of the past? At the heart this is a story of friendship, found family, love, and acceptance. The characters are well written and I really liked that the friends had become family for LeeLee. I was so invested in LeeLee’s story that at times I found myself yelling at the book as she made some of her decisions. The changing point of views and time period kept me reading and I enjoyed seeing the different sides of the story. The mystery of what happened to Ginny added to the book. I recommend this book if you enjoy books about life and love mixed with a mystery and a little bit psychic ability.

I listened to the author’s cracked slipper series so I was excited to read this different type of book.

This is a little bit of cross genres and has a little something for everyone. There is a mystery and friendship drama throughout. And throw in a little coming of age and romance to round out the most represented genres.

Ginny and LeeLee were best of friends and are the narrators of this journey. Ginny tells their past while LeeLee tells the present. The mystery surrounds what happened to Ginny. She’s missing and someone sends an anonymous email implicating Ginny and LeeLees ex-boyfriend in her disappearance.

Usually I like one timeline over another in a dual narrative, but I found I was quite interested in both. I loved how even though there are years between each chapter, quite often there was a thread that loosely tied the two together.

I had so many theories about whether Ginny was alive and what happened to her. As info slowly came to light in the present, I was constantly changing my thoughts on not only what happened, but what I thought of the characters.

But as engrossed as I was in the mystery, I was caught up in the girls’ friendship and how it ebbed and flowed. It had a real feel to it and brought memories back of that time in my life.

The book made me think and I enjoyed the read. I’d highly recommend it for those lovers of character driven mysteries.

Thank you @stephaniealexanderBooks @KateRockBookTours for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Being from South Carolina, I was excited to see that this intriguing story takes place in my back yard! The author does a great job capturing the essence of the Southern mindset and lifestyle. I was immediately drawn into this story which unfolds through the perspectives of Ginny and LeeLee and in alternating timelines.

When teenager Lisa Lightstone moves to Ginny’s small Southern town, she is immediately befriended by Ginny. Ginny, who gives Lisa the nickname LeeLee, brings her into her circle of friends. Ginny and LeeLee discover that they share a talent for seeing things in the future and the past that others cannot see. Ginny and LeeLee lose touch of each other when Ginny runs off with her boyfriend, Peace. Years later, LeeLee is a successful lawyer when Peace Smith comes back to town and tells her that Ginny has disappeared. LeeLee is suddenly drawn into a missing persons case.

I really appreciated the lifelong friendship dynamic between LeeLee and her friends. It was fascinating to see LeeLee at a pivotal moment in her life, embracing reflection and acceptance. If you’re looking for something deeper than just a light read, I think you will enjoy this one.

I found a hidden gem of a story in 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐰 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫.

I actually stayed up late reading this one. It is a moving and suspenseful tale of friendship, lovers, obsessions, addictions, and even psychic abilities. The plot twists and the depth of the characters kept me hooked until the last page.

It is a story about a tight-knit group of friends who live in the atmospheric Lowcountry. We follow them from their youth into adulthood. Some exchange lovers, some friends carry secrets, others hold onto unrequited love, but through the years, these friends will weather addictions and obsessions that will drive them to the brink.

The narrative skillfully jumps between different times and places, usually between the friends' adulthood and their younger years. Each friend, with their distinct personality, holds a unique place in the friend group. Two of the friends have psychic abilities, but they approach them very differently, adding a unique twist to the story.

While it's a compelling story of friendship and love, a missing person mystery adds another layer of depth, making it a truly unputdownable read. I was so engrossed in these characters' lives that I didn’t want to miss one single detail.

It took me longer than usual to read Stephanie Alexander's newest book, Mean Low Water, not because of her storytelling, which is masterful, but because of my own life experiences. Having grown up with an alcoholic in the household, I don't gravitate towards books with themes of alcohol and drug addiction. I received an ARC version of Mean Low Water, and despite my hesitation on some of the subject matter, Stephanie's storytelling sucked me in anyway! Stephanie's character development is one of my favorite things about her books. In Meal Low Water get a deep dive on a character we were introduced to in the Tipysy Collins series, Lee Lee Moretz. Lee Lee possesses her own flavor of supernatural talent that she has only shared with an estranged friend, Ginny, who has gone missing. The search to find Ginny makes Lee Lee travel down memory lane in more ways than one. It's hard to write about the book without feeling like I'm giving major spoilers. As usual, there is a twist near the end that I never saw coming. The reader feels like there is real resolution at the end. I feel like I really got to know these characters. I hope Stephanie keeps writing about this particular group. I personally want to know what happens with Palmer!

Mean Low Water is my first book by Stephanie, but it certainly won’t be my last. This is the exact kind of southern suspenseful fiction I love to read. After I finished this book, I headed to Stephanie’s website and discovered that LeeLee is a character from the Tipsy Collins Series, so I know what I’ll be adding to my kindle next!

This is a story of best friends from childhood and how bonds connect each other, even when each friend takes a very different path. Hearing the story told from Ginny and LeeLee and moving from past to present, made for powerful storytelling. While the story was page-turning, there are scenes dealing with addiction that are hard on the heart. Thankfully the author handled these with great care. I had to remind myself to slow down when I was reading, because I wanted to know the ending, but I also didn’t want to miss any details. The psychic abilities of both Ginny and LeeLee were fascinating, especially how differently each of them handled such powers. There is much here that would be wonderful to discuss, so book clubs should consider this as a selection.

Without giving any spoilers, I loved the ending. It was just what I wanted. I’d love to read more stories featuring some other characters from this friend group.

This is a powerful and atmospheric novel that pulls you into the deep, muddy waters of the South, where secrets and old loves never truly disappear. The story follows LeeLee Moretz, a divorce attorney in Charleston who seems to have the perfect life. But when her first love, Peace Smith, returns to town with news about their missing best friend, Ginny, LeeLee's carefully built world begins to crack.
The book's real strength is in its rich, Southern atmosphere. You can almost feel the humid air and hear the ghosts of the past whispering in the old streets. LeeLee isn't just trying to solve a mystery; she's forced to face the parts of her own life she tried to leave behind, especially her complicated bond with Ginny—a charismatic friend with psychic gifts and dark struggles. The question of what really happened to Ginny, and whether Peace is involved, creates a slow-burning tension that is hard to put down.
This is more than a simple mystery. It’s a thoughtful exploration of friendship, memory, and how the choices we make when we're young can shape our entire lives. The characters feel real and deeply human, and the story stays with you long after you finish reading.

I really enjoyed the storytelling in this book. I loved the friend group at the center of the story and how they reconnected after a decade to help find their old friend, Ginny. Ginny and LeeLee share a gift of being able to see past, present thoughts, and the future. While Ginny always embraced herself as a navigator, LeeLee always suppressed her gift and kept it to herself. Through her journey to find what happened to Ginny, LeeLee learns t embrace her gift and finds herself and what she wants in her future along the way.
I liked the secondary characters just as much as the two narrators. I’m happy with LeeLee’s ending in terms of who she chose to spend the rest of her life with. I think the author tackled issues of addiction very well with how dynamics between friends and family change over time. I would recommend this book to everyone and am so happy to have received a copy from Books Forward Friends.

This was an interesting book about two school girls who were friends, LeeLee and Ginny. The story flips from the late 90’s to the 2015’s and to the 2008’s and more. LeeLee is a highly successful lawyer in her 30’s now but has a floundering marriage to Clay her husband, along with 3 kids. She is unsure what to do about Clay, but then her childhood love Peace, shows up and she is even more confused! Throw in Clay who is giving LeeLee ultimatums, this makes for a super engaging read!

I found the psychic connection that LeeLee and Ginny her best friend from grade school share extremely interesting. I liked when both of them had their visions and could tell when things were going wrong in their lives or trying to figure out what to do next etc. I like the ending of the book where we find out more of what happens to Ginny and also to LeeLee. The author did a great job with the ending of this book, and it wraps up the entire story.

I love the setting of Charleston. The author describes the vicinity very well. I’ve been to Charleston twice in the last 2 years and I could picture several,of the places from the book, especially the Ravenel bridge that I’m slightly obsessed with.
Lee Lee and Ginny both possess the ability of second sight and become best friends. But they both love Peace too.
The love triangle was awkward and I kept thinking you don’t encroach where your best friend has been.
I thought LeeLee needed to get her head on and while I didn’t have much sympathy for Clay I thought she was exchanging one bad idea for another. She was in love with the idea of who she thought Peace could be rather than who he had been.
I didn’t have high regard for either Peace nor Ginny for most of the book.
It’s a book about choices and consequences and what we do with life and where we want to go.
Thanks to Books Forward for the advance copy.

A Perfect October Read

🎵Queue every Southern/Carolina/Shag song you've heard... it will totally fit!🎵
(For me, all I can hear is "Carolina Girls" by General Johnson and Chairmen of the Board.)

Atmospheric, lyrical, transportation-al (yep, I just came up with a new word), this Maryland transplant was transported back in time and place to the sights, smells, sounds, and feelings that only the Lowcountry of South Carolina can evoke (pluffmud, Vendue, saltmarsh, Westvaco, night-blooming jasmine, "can you say 'Legare'?", and oc, #scatteredsmotheredandcovered).

Stephanie Alexander didn't just write a book, she crafted a story.. the kind that makes you stay up way past your bedtime, and even though you might fight sleep, you keep asking the storyteller for more. A perfect October read.

What a journey friendship can take you on.
Lee Lee and Ginny are such full characters. They are so different but share something so unique and important. Their deep emotions and life complications were done in a way that was easy to understand where they were in life. Easy to understand why they felt certain ways. Life takes them in completely different directions. Definitely took the story in a direction and had quite the twist I didn’t see coming. The dual timeline worked so well to see how their relationship started and where it was. It hooked my curiosity right from the beginning. I needed to know how certain situations came to be. Absolutely an entertaining read.

great read

This was my first by this author. I love a good book with a little suspense. Some books are tough to go back and forth with past and present, but this one was written well. I couldn’t put it down as I learned what made Ginny and Lee Lee tick. It was tough reading the downward spiral, but that’s a current problem in life. Marriage issues and divorce are huge problems too especially with the laws in South Carolina. A year to get divorced and not be able to really move on makes life even more difficult. I could tell by reading the author was a lawyer. It was well written. Following the friends from school through life even with the twists and turns of life only to mostly wind back up together was wholesome to read. I’m Hoping for an audiobook.

“Reading Mean Low Water is like driving through the South in the month of May with your hair blowing in the wind and the scent of Honeysuckle tickling your nose until day turns to night and all hell breaks loose.

Ginny and Leelee have the gift of prophecy, seeing the past, the present, and the future. Reading the thoughts of those they love, who love them back, can be a hard pill to swallow. You can’t hide from someone who can see all of you. That’s what LeeLee thinks as she struggles with her gift while Ginny flaunts hers.

But then Ginny goes missing, and LeeLee stops at nothing to find out what happened to her.”

This. Book. I’ve read some really great books this year & this one ranks up there with the best of them. I’m usually intimidated by a very long read. But, I must say, award winning author, Stephanie Alexander, swept me up in her epic new novel.

I was completely immersed in the dual timeline, alternating between LeeLee’s & Ginny’s perspectives over two decades. I loved their connection from the moment they met, discovering they could both see into the past & the future. Through years of friendship, love, betrayal, hurt, & forgiveness, I felt emotions as they did. I’m ever so glad to give 5 ⭐️ to this southern women's fiction story.

"Mean Low Water" by Stephanie Alexander is the first book that I have read by this author. It certainly did not disappoint. The plot is interesting, the characters are powerful and realistic, and the setting is so well described that I felt I was actually there. Even though the chapters go back and forth between the various characters during different times in their lives, the reader is never left confused by the transitions. This well-written mystery will leave the reader guessing until close to the end of the novel. If you enjoy a good mystery thriller, I would definitely recommend "Mean Low Water".

I liked Mean Low Water. It a literally fiction which I am starting to learn isn't a genre I necessarily love.

There was a mystery part to Mean Low Water to figure out what happen to Ginny. I kept reading to figure out what happened to her and who was right. The plot was slow moving and at times didn't really move the story along.

Overall, this was a nice read.

This dual-timeline domestic suspense tale, with a bit of supernatural/paranormal thrown in, is a great fall read. I really liked how the supernatural elements weren’t necessarily “scary” and really added to the overall story instead of complicating it. Perfect for magical realism readers.

Slow start

I absolutely love the Tipsy Collins novels, with that said I felt like this was off to a slow start and 60% in I was leaning towards 3 stars. After a slow start it the story picked up and came together with a twist I did not see coming.

Very interesting read about high school friends and their future together. ‘As Peace said, shades of gray The tides goes in, and the tide goes out.’ This describes life completely. This is a must read for us southern South Carolinians.
