As an Air Marshal, Case Younger is tasked with keeping people safe. Then the unthinkable happens. There is a hijacking on a plane he is on. Before he can subdue the hijacker, one of the flight attendants is killed. Even though he is called a hero, he doesn’t feel like one. To escape from the public eye, her decides to go back to his small home town. But even there, trouble follows him. A man from his past is slowly destroying the peace of the small town. Case can’t ignore the damage being done to the citizens, especially when it lands on his front step. He takes it upon himself to take on a group of men who will let nothing stand in their way. And in the process, Case will discover just how deep the allegiances of these men are imbedded in the town. The words ‘action packed’ and ‘intense’ aren’t nearly enough to describe this book. It is about a man who is driven to make things right. Case can’t do the easy thing and look the other way. It’s not in his DNA. Younger is a strong personality that proves the words right over might.
Homecoming quickly engages and sets the tone from the beginning. A relatable man searches for peace and resolution with his family when returning home. Gary brings his experience and creativity to life in an exciting thriller parallel to shows such as Justified or Reacher. Case Younger's history has been developed with thoughtful execution and leads credence to the life he desires and why he will go at whatever cost necessary to keep those he loves safe.
His writing style in the first book of the Case Younger series had me looking forward to each chapter as I grew to love the main characters, good and bad. His devotion and emotional changes with his family and those he will protect are justified by his steps. His brother Bobby, Mia, and others are thoughtfully laid out, and Gary ends each chapter with you wanting more.
Homecoming by Gary Quesenberry is a very good thriller. The storyline is about an Air Marshall who returns to his home town after stopping a terrorist attack on a flight. The publicity would not allow him to continue as an Air Marshall. With the return to his home town, he has to deal with a lot of the anger issues that caused him to leave after a confrontation with his father.
The town has undergone a number of changes over the years that have impacted small Appalachian towns recently. The primary one is drug trafficking. A biker gang is dealing drugs and kidnapping young women and girls for sex trafficking. The story line revolves around how this is impacting him, his family, and former girlfriend and how he deals with these issues.
Starts off action packed mixed with a bit of Hallmark movie for redemption with family on the outs. You get involved with the main character, Case, who has his demons just like his dad did. I really liked that the author brought up a remembered talk Case had with his dad about the difference between anger and rage several times. Anger can actually help you through a tough situation or struggle but rage is just destructive. As the story goes along and gets more complicated, it turns from Hallmark to Rambo to A Team. The end of one of the later chapters has a cliched ending but it fit. Very well written for a first book and can’t wait for the next book.
If you like Reacher, Spenser, or Bosch you will love this book.
The first in a series about Case Younger, a retired Federal Air Marshall who comes home to find All is not Right with the people and place he grew up. Lots of action. Lots of tension. Lots of bad guys getting the smack laid down mightily upon them...and an ethical undertone that's often missing from books in this genre.
Written by a man who loves the genre, and brings to his writing the kind of expertise you can only get from a seasoned professional. Absolutely worth your time.
This was a thrilling, action-packed novel. Case Younger deserves to be ranked up there with similar action heroes like Taylor Moore's Garrett Kohl and Ryan Steck's Matthew Redd. I will definitely read Dead to Rights (out now) and Head of the Snake when it is published next year!
HOMECOMING - A totally awesome read. I was totally immersed in this story with its intriguing story lines, interesting characters and non-stop pace. I love the triumph of Good vs. Evil, and fixing wrongs. Plenty of action, emotions, and cans being opened. Source: LibraryThing. 5*
Fast moving, well written, full of excitement. The author has created a character, Cole Younger, that is appealing and well thought out. It's an easy, fun read. Looking forward to the next book in what I hope is a series.
