Mojitos, music, and…murder?

FBI Special Agent Pepper Ryan takes an unofficial detour to Cuba after his buddy Angel Cavada’s romantic vacation turns to nightmare. Angel’s filmmaker girlfriend, Marisol, disappeared from a Havana street market, leaving only a broken high-heeled shoe. And a bizarre serial killer has been targeting Cuba's top artists—is Marisol the latest victim?

With a quick-fisted policeman dogging his path and the country’s hottest actress complicating his future, Pepper goes on a thrill ride of lies, love, and shattering revelations in Cuba's city of secrets.

As the body count rises and a hurricane looms, can Pepper outsmart the killer before time runs out? Or will he be the next victim in Havana’s deadly dance?

Is either Cuba or the FBI really worth it?

Pepper Ryan hastily races to Cuba to find a friend’s missing girl friend while putting his own career in the FBI on the line. While looking for the missing girlfriend, he becomes embroiled in a serial killer’s bloody deeds. Can he find the serial killer or the girl friend before a hurricane heading towards Cuba can cost him his career?

I enjoyed the book due to its exposure of Havana and its crumbling buildings and lifestyle. A very interesting and enlightening examination of the world of Communist Cuba vs capitalistic America. Cuba as a nation or as an island of great beauty does deserve to be the site of both romantic and mystery novels.

The plot is simple, well developed, and probably full of clues to readily identify the unknown killer but the twist is such that I missed it. I did not see that coming!

A grammatical error cost this book five stars. But for entertainment purposes it is well worth reading. Easily read in a few hours since both the characters and the plot kept my interest!

Minutes after landing in Cuba, Angel's girlfriend disappears without a trace. Angel calls his best friend, Pepper Ryan, an FBI agent in the US and asks for his help. Pepper has his own troubles but agrees to help him and flies to Cuba. Chaos ensues. Cuban thugs, Canadian thugs, police thugs, and a serial killer are all after Pepper, Angel, and a ragtag bunch of new friends, all trying to find Marisol. The US embassy and the police tell them to go home and leave it to the police, but Pepper can't leave it alone. His friend's girlfriend is in trouble and no one in authority is looking for her. It's a great read and has a real surprise ending.

I couldn’t put this new thriller from Timothy Fagan down! I felt like I was in Havana with Fagan’s descriptive writing style. Each character got more compelling the more I read and I didn’t see the twist until right when it happened. Any lover of underdog good-guy-put-in-bad-situation stories will love this quick, exciting and funny read. Do yourself a favour and read this book!

After the first two Pepper Ryan books, I was looking forward to this one - and it did not disappoint!

Fagan’s descriptive style made me feel like I was right in Havana along for the ride with Pepper. New characters added dynamic suspense and mystery.

Can’t wait for the next one “overseas”!

Language

Here is another person who is willing to profane that which many worship by using their names as vulgar exclamations. In addition, this person has no better grasp of language than to flip out f-bombs as common terms. There are better authors available elsewhere.

The story line is superb. There were a few editing errors of no consequence. The reason for docking the book a star was the convoluted side stories and somewhat unbelievable events. Having said that, I enjoyed reading Havana Fear

A good read. It starts out slow but the suspence builds through out the story until an unexpected ending. After the halfway point I had trouble putting it down. A five star read.

Havana Fear by Timothy Fagan is the latest in the Pepper Ryan series, twisting through Cuba’s dark alleys and vibrant streets. Pepper is dropped into this alien environment and is challenged to solve a mystery as well as survive the unknown realm of Havana, where he has to navigate a wholly different world while attempting to help a friend who has gotten themselves into real trouble. I enjoyed being immersed in a different place with a familiar character, along with the blend of suspense, humor, and cultural insights the story packed. If you enjoy a mix of mystery and adventure with a splash of humor, you'll enjoy this book.
