Mated to the Viking Alpha #1

Thor's Unexpected Mate

Rate this book
He’s a hot redhead in distress and I’m a Viking Alpha werewolf with a pack in turmoil. Even though our romance is forbidden and he’s a man, no wolf can resist the call of his fated mate.

Thor

I’ve always trusted the visions of my brother and when he told me to run, I didn’t hesitate. The Skoll pack, led by the ruthless Alpha who killed our father, is out for blood. But when I shifted and took off into the woods, I never expected to find an injured human with red hair and a pair of green eyes that could seduce me with a glance.

Against my better judgment, I secretly took him back to the hot springs my pack operates. There I made the biggest mistake of my life by kissing him in a moment of weakness. And now I’m not sure I can ever let him go. But I’m still keeping secrets from him.

However, when the Skoll leader sets his sights on my new mate, I fear I might lose him forever.

Flynn

I moved to Fenris to take care of my grandmother and to get away from the uncertainty of the city. But the mountain she lives on holds its own dangers. When I accidentally end up off the path after dark, the last thing I expected was to take a bad step and break my leg. Then, when a hulking wolf with glowing yellow eyes finds me in the dark, I’m not sure I’ll survive the night.

The next morning I wake up in a resort, cared for by a hulking man who speaks little but cares for me day and night. I’m impatient to get home to my grandmother, but he won’t let me leave until I’m healed. When I try to run away, he rescues me again and kisses me, forging a bond between us that I can’t resist.

But, the closer I try to get, the more he pulls away. He’s hiding something and I’m going to find out what it is.

Bad reading day. Isn’t “gold star gay” offensive to trans people? And I cannot believe that he was also proud of being born by c-section. I didn’t even know that was a thing to include in the definition of that. Gives me the ick a bit.

Entertaining

This book was a quick and fun read. I enjoyed the couple and how ridiculous they both were at the beginning. The general plot was interesting enough but we’ll see if it has enough interest and potential to hold up all three books. The spice was fun but sometimes the descriptions were a bit cringe. (If I have to read the word “flop” one more time I might just have to dnf.)

I’m curious enough about the rest of the story that I’ll read the next.

Thor's Unexpected Mate is the first book in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series.

The book tells the story of Thor and Flynn.
Thor's pack is integrated into the human world, more or less, because they have a business, a resort, in the mountains, which is quite original. His younger brother's visions guide him one night to Flynn, who is out for a walk in the mountains and has had an accident.

Flynn lives with his grandmother in the foothills of the mountain on a farm. When he suffers the accident, Thor takes him to the resort to recover.

Thor is sooo sweet, it looks like he's going to have to choose between Flynn and the pack. Flynn is an artist who helps his grandma with the farm, is fed up with one-night stands and is looking for something lasting.

Their love seems forbidden, as pack laws prevent a human and werewolf from being a couple.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one because , from the looks of it , it will focus on one of Thor's brothers, Loki.

I like pnr and where there are werewolves , there I am.

2.5 rounded. This is one of those times when I worry that a 2-star rating gives the wrong impression. But I really did enjoy this as a quick light read. I really like the concept. I definitely could’ve used more action and more Norse mythology. For a book of this length, I was a bit disappointed whenever something was repeated. This didn’t happen with events but rather with thoughts. And there were times when the foreshadowing was heavy-handed. I also thought sometimes the language was too erotic, if there’s such a thing. It’s not bad, but just was always like this and I just thought it didn’t always fit with the tone of the rest of the book. But at the end of the day I was entertained. Which is exactly what I wanted and expected from this book. A quick, fun read.

I DNF this at 54% bc if by that point the MC didn't pull me in, there was no chance they ever will. I couldn't stand Flynn, from the 1st minute he was obnoxious, entitled, brat. Bc of this the main couple suffered a lot, I simply did not care what happened to them. Baldyr is the most interesting brother by far. The family dynamic was interesting but not enough to keep me engaged with such a MC. I ll try Loki to see if things improve

Here's Blake R Wolfe's "Thor's Unexpected Mate." It's the first novel in the Mated to the Viking Alpha series.

Oh. My. Gooooodess! This book was fabulous. It was partially crack, but it was also just...an awesome mishmash of secrets and folklore and shifters and Vikings and love and forbidden romance and fated mates and revenge.

Flynn was utterly perfect for Thor, and vice versa. They were both protective and possessive and obsessed. Flynn was funny and sassy; Thor needed some light in his life. Thor was serious and filed with direction; Flynn needed some (direction).

I'm obsessed. OBsessed!

I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Trigger Warnings: violence, stalking, and more.

A great start to an amazing new series. The characters are fully developed and the storyline is intriguing and engaging. This book had me hooked from start to finish and left me craving more.

Thor is one of three brothers, he had to become Alpha of the Hati pack after his father was murdered by another pack Alpha, one who has become unhinged and is ruthless. The pack and one of his brothers are demanding retrubution, but Thor and his other brother know the time isn't right. Thor is a sweet guy trying to do right by his pack. He is thrown a curveball when he comes across his mate who is a human and therefore unaccepted due to pack laws. This creates a lot of internal struggles for Thor, but the pull of a fated mate cannot be denied, so Thor has to find a way to make it work.
Flynn is an artist, he is sassy, and he loves his Nana. Those two are a hoot! An accident leaves him in Thor's care and there is instantly a powerful pull towards the other man - as well as a heaping helping of lust. He knows something is going on, and when he finally learns the truth, he vows to keep Thor's secret.
In addition to trying to find a way to appease the pack and have them accept Flynn, there is an old enemy causing more trouble. It was great to see Flynn step up when needed, allowing him to see he is much braver than he thought.

This book has twists, danger, violence, action, a past where wolf shifters were hunted by humans, magic, MC's who connect fairly quickly and have intense passion, heartfelt moments, and deep, genuine love for Flynn and Thor who definitely deserve it.
While these two get their HEA, the overarching plot will continue in the next two books in this trilogy. Next up is Loki's story and I can't wait for this angry wolf's story.

I received an ARC from the author, this is my unbiased, honest opinion.

If you’re a fan of werewolves, magic, and action-packed adventures, you’re in for a treat with this book! Following the intriguing story of an alpha werewolf and a freshly graduated young human, this novel captures your attention from page one. Their accidental meeting in the woods leads to an unexpected bond, making them ‘fated mates.’ The chemistry between the main characters is palpable and sets the stage for an enthralling narrative.

The plot thickens as the alpha werewolf’s pack law strictly prohibits any form of mixing between humans and wolves. Humans are seen as untrustworthy, leading to intense internal conflict within the alpha’s pack and even sparking fights between rival packs. The struggles and challenges faced by the main characters are gripping, making it difficult to put the book down.

Beyond the central couple, the author has crafted well-developed supporting characters that enrich the story. The alpha’s two brothers add layers of depth and intrigue, while the young human’s grandmother brings wisdom and complexity to the plot. These characters have their compelling backstories, contributing significantly to the story’s development and making the book an even more enjoyable read.

Overall, this book is a delightful mix of romance, action, and supernatural elements. The engaging storytelling and well-rounded characters ensure that readers will be hooked from start to finish. It’s a fun read that offers a perfect escape into a world where magic is real and love knows no boundaries.

'Life was about experiences after all, so time to start experiencing them, I guess.'

While I enjoyed this book, there were aspects that were contradicted constantly and annoyed me. The forbidden aspect, not wanting to reveal as to protect - which considering reveals towards the end makes sense.

However Thor is very much a softie for Flynn from start to finish, the moment his pushed he gives in quickly and these two pretty much speed run to the end.

I adored their initial introductions, the set up with the rival packs - desire for revenge and the brothers dynamic was great, sadly nothing was given enough time to develop or explore enough.

The romance is rather insta with the fated mates aspect, but they're sweet together and plenty of steamy scenes. I do wish had been more time to see them fall outside of just the bond though, as felt lacking.

Anyway I do enjoy a well written villain and Tyr fits that role, his motives and based upon own upbringing & history with Flynn's family. The wanting to keep hidden from humans, keep the secrets even makes sense with the history of hunters in general and all wolves against reveal to humans - so event his killing of Thor's father made sense with his pov.

I mean it's all rather tragic and I'm interested in trying the rest of the series, see where the story ends up and the brothers finding their partners too.

Flynn & Thor get their happy ending for now, but the story still has plotline open and links onto Loki's goal in the next book.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This new series by Blake R Wolfe opens onto a new universe that is clearly on another level. We enter a universe where werewolves have a long and heavy history with humans.

I loved discovering this new universe through the eyes of Thor and Flynn, and their story. Art, humans, werewolves, wolf hunters, magic and a goddess who seals destinies! And obviously just the right amount of hot scenes!

The characters' characters are well-kept, the universe is approached step by step and the rhythm is gripping and intense.

I loved this story and can't wait to learn more in the next volumes!

----

If your name is Thor, you have a lot to live up to and this character had pressure put on him from the start. We start this series with Thor, leader of the werewolf pack already having problems, after a rival werewolf pack's Alpha killed his dad. Add to that a feisty, sassy human redhead and you know he is in trouble.
This was a fun read that kept my interest from the first page. Thor was the serious type, his life was his pack, but after finally accepting that Flynn was his mate, he did sort of relax. Not by much though due to other issues. Flynn was such a kind soul with a nig heart, living and caring for his grandma and literally giving up finding love. A tiny complaint I would have loved to read more about Flynn's art and I hope snippets of this, is in the further books.
That being said this book was a good start to this series and has set the foundations for the others. You are introduced to all the brothers and I am so there for Loki's story and to be honest I was surprised reading the teaser for it.
If you want a new werewolf series to get your teeth in, you cannot go wrong with this

There's no doubt that Blake R Wolfe has a way with wolf shifters (Shifters Grove, Tellurian Pack). And a new series from him is always something to look forward to. I loved the bits of Norse Mythology sprinkled throughout.
Thor finds an injured human while on a run. Flynn, the human, is his fated mate. It's forbidden to let humans know about werewolves let alone mate them. Loki, Thor's brother, makes it clear that it's pack or mate. This makes Thor reluctant to claim Flynn. And it's the bold human who pursues the shifter, a twist to the 'normal' shifter story.
Their chemistry is steamy. And a bit sweet. Brothers, Loki and Baldur make for strong secondaries. Loki's a hothead; he and Thor have a contentious relationship. Baldur, a seer, is the peacemaker. Both are going to get books in this trilogy. I hope that they'll live up to this series start.
Good worldbuilding. A bit of angst. Action and danger with another twist.
A quick, fun read. Very much enjoyed this start. Looking forward to more.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

I simply cannot get enough of Thor and Flynn, so beautifully written, they both feel so deeply.

Flynn lives with his quirky grandmother on their farm at the bottom of the mountain, one day when he's out hiking he stays out too late and in the dark falls and badly injured himself, with no way of getting help he passes out from the pain just as he sees a giant white wolf approaching.
Thor stumbles upon his fated mate, who is injured and needs help, he's also a human and it's against their pack law for a wolf to mate with a human.
There are a few twists and turns along the way, Thor has always been interested in women so his fated mate being a man is a new thing for him, not that it stops him from enjoying their journey.
There are some brilliant moments between the main characters as well as Thor and his siblings that make this a great read, it pulls you in so you're ready for the next stories in the series so you can read about the rest of the characters you're introduced to.

Thor’s Unexpected Mate absolutely delivers when it comes to raw, carnal intensity. The chemistry is immediate, unapologetic, and honestly the strongest part of the book—those scenes are vivid, confident, and clearly where the author is most at home. If you’re reading purely for heat, you won’t be disappointed.

That said, the story around the spice feels thin. The plot exists mostly as a bridge between intimate moments, and what could have been a richer world or deeper emotional arc never quite materializes. Conflicts resolve too easily, side elements feel underdeveloped, and I was left wanting more substance to balance out the passion.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable read if you’re in the mood for high heat and low commitment, but it misses the chance to be something more memorable with stronger plotting and character growth.

This was such a good book! Thor and Flynn, though it seemed like they were gonna have to sacrifice their relationship as fated mates for the good of Thor’s pack, were so sweet. There was no wishy washy, back and forth, ‘do we, don’t we’ mess and no third quarter breakup which happens to be a pet peeve of mine.

I’ve said what it WASN’T but I don’t have the words to say what it was without going into too much detail and basically rehashing the whole story line. Suffice it to say, if you love sweet alpha shifters who live for their mates, human or otherwise, you need to read this book! I’m already looking forward to Thor’s brother Loki’s book to come out in October!!! In the meantime, Thor and Flynn deserve every one of these 5 stars!

Thor is the alpha of the Hati pack and when he brother tells him to run from the Skoll pack he does. Little did he know that his world was about to get a little more complicated.
Flynn lives with his grandmother, helping her on her farm.
Flynn is injured when he falls on the path he is running on and breaks his leg. Thor is the wolf that finds him.
Not only is Thor trying to be the alpha of his pack, he is also trying to keep the peace and a level head on seeking revenge on the Skoll Alpha for killing his father. On top of that he just found his very human mate.
Flynn and Thor are really sweet together. The secondary characters are likable and the drama with the Skoll pack gets intense.

This was a good start to a new series with interesting new world building. Flynn (human spitfire) and Thor (Alpha wolfpack leader) make a cute couple. Flynn's grandma was quite the quirky character, and I'm looking forward to getting to know Thor's brothers better in upcoming books. Unfortunately, I didn't really have a grasp on Thor's personality. He was a reluctant Alpha, but I don't know what made that guy tick ( other than Flynn, lol). Also, I felt the story would have benefitted from less hand wringing from Thor over the whole "we just can't be together" issue. There was honestly an overabundance of that. All in all, though, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to shifter fans.

What a great book. It was a steamy MM of and page turner and the suspense was incredible intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. Thor and Flynn chemistry was sexual tension and physical tension was spicy hot. Thor wanted revenge for his father death but how can go about it in this moment. It was complicated and crazy but then who can he trust on this mission. Could Flynn be one who will change his mind with love and affection.
I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

[Stuff Your Kindle Day book]

I liked several things, including incorporating Norse mythology into werewolf lore.

But…this feels like it could have used another round of revision; the pacing was off, lots of repeated phrases, extraneous dialogue that goes on unnecessarily, and plot points would just sort of pop up.

Also, the dialogue, *especially* the dialogue during the smutty scenes, was just bad. Like, take you out of the story, Micheal-Scott-second-hand-embarrassment bad. I almost DNF’d at 77% because of this exchange:
- “Not to mention you probably blew out your entire b*tth*le.”
- “You mean you blew out my b*tth*le.”

New to me author that did not disappoint. I devoured this book in a little over a day. Pesky sleep got in the way of reading 😂 Thor is the alpha of the Hati pack and when he comes across human Flynn injured in the woods he can’t resist the draw to him. Turns out the moon goddess has blessed him with a fated mate but will his pack ever accept a human. Their love and bond is a bit of an insta love with some angst over acceptance and a war with a rival pack. Action packed, well written, steamy with a good HEA. Looking forward to Lokis story next!

Super fun and quick read! I immediately loved Flynn, he’s just so cute. Thor was sweet and the grandma is so fun! Because of the tropes and how quick of a read it is, it’s pretty much insta lust, not exactly insta love but it’s pretty quick. Really fun book though, I think it was well executed. Going to jump into Loki’s story asap!

• MM romance
• fated mates
• forbidden love
• fast paced
• werewolf x human
• norse mythology inspired (not heavy)
• size difference
• knotting + a sprinkle of breeding kink + biting
• strict roles
• 1st person pov
• dual pov

A very tropey, pretty smutty read. My second foray into werewolf/shifter fiction, and my first one in 10-ish years. The pace of this book is quick, but it works—it doesn’t have a ton of interest in getting to know the characters, which I understand for a smut novel, but it left many of them feeling samey. The smut was good, though I’d like some more variety in word choice (“breed” and “pucker” started to lose all meaning here). The book was a fun, light read and left enough going on that I’ll be reading the sequel. I do wish there was more actual Norse mythology/vikings.

Good series starter

This was a fun read. I was under the impression that the werewolves in the book were of the bipedal monster variety, so finding out that they spend most of the book looking human was a bit disappointing, but the story was good and the caretaking was top tier.

I didn’t love the time skip toward the end and would rather have seen how things played out after the climactic scene.

The writing is good, the characters were interesting, and overall, I had a good time.

I loved reading this book. As an arc reader I wad enthralled in the story. It is beautifully written. The characters relationships are ever evolving and it is very heartfelt. It is the forst book in the authors new trilogy and it is definately worth the read.

Thor and Flynns story has passion and action and intensity. I loved everything about this story and think it was one of Blake's best books I've read so far. If u like shifter romance with romance and plot and passion this is a good one.

An incredibly hot book. Thor is an alpha trough and trough, and when he first laid eyes on Finn, he knew he was is fated mate. A human, which is against pack laws. The well-crafted pack dynamics and werewolf-ish elements added richness to the story. I loved the plot and twists. The characters and story ideas from Bake are always unique and exciting, with just the right amount of action. Highly recommend!

Thor and Flynn

Brilliant book which I totally loved and would thoroughly recommend hoping that others enjoy it as well. In the paranormal world same sex mates are quite common but not really desired by the pack for the Alpha. What happens when on top of the person being male he’s also a human? Such is the predicament for Thor when he finds Flynn hurt from a fall on the mountain. Feature in an unstable Alpha from another pack and you have a recipe for a great tale.
