Honestly W T H!!! The first part had me tearing up, the middle had me wondering again if we'd get a romance between the MMCs, and then it ends on an illegal cliffhanger!! Illegal I tell you!
This Black Market Auction arc is going to be intense.

this volume has the perfect mix of emotional gut punch and fluffy ridiculousness. reiji and natsuki are an incredibly complex and interesting duo, and all of their scenes are so layered and fun to read. i love seeing someone putting reiji in his place and getting to use him the way he uses everyone else. sho and akira are so clearly in love it’s crazy, they’re kind of the itafushi to reiji and natuski’s satosugu. i’m so excited that volume 9 is finally out so i can see what happens next cause that cliffhanger has been haunting me for months

(I talk about volume contents in this review, but not direct big reveals of spoilers.)

So this volume also had a lot of information in it, but it actually shocked me this time.

First of all, I love that we’re finally starting to get deeper into the series in what I mean by that is characters are starting to connect to things in the suspicions that other characters are having regarding certain cases and certain incidents are starting to align.

I do feel empathy for Hyogo and Chizu, even though I knew most likely what was going to happen.

Going along with that, we finally got to learn the backstory behind Hyogo and Amamiya, and I did not expect it to be what it was. I was like emotional and shocked. And I think that revealed so much of the layers because there’s a lot of hesitance and there is a lot of distain in certain parts but also, the feelings are overall complicated really. Because it takes past feelings and it combines them with the present, but also there’s a lot of manipulation… of course from Amamiya. Like let me just play a speculation game, but like how big of a piece is he to the puzzle? Like I said this back in volume two or volume three but I said he is really in everybody’s business and that stands true. Just like let me know what information I don’t have yet. I love that the darker realities of the AMO are coming up.

And then we had a lighter chapter featuring Akira and Sho and the guy who says he’s Akiras BFF from school, which I don’t even remember his name. For once, there was a funnier chapter that I didn’t hate. But then it got a little serious. I just wanna know like what was that???😭 It was funny, then it got serious, then it was heartfelt, then it felt intimate. What an interesting chapter contents. No, because I honestly don’t know what to say. It was funny lighthearted joking about dating then it really felt different at the end. But am I a hater? Absolutely not.

And then it ended on starting the new arc, which every time a new one starts I get excited because I know it’s gonna start to get darker and serious and we’re gonna start to see a lot of character development happen and certain things being revealed and connections happening and you know that that’s my favorite part.

I jak ja mam teraz wytrzymać do kolejnego tomu?!

Sprawa z Chizu dała mi trochę po pysku. Dziewczyna może i dopiero co się pojawiła, ale samo to jak bardzo zmienił się przy niej Natsuki – jak z poważnego formalisty (który w ramach odmiany krzyczy na Amamiyę i rzuca w niego co ma pod ręką…) naprawdę się rozluźnił i zaczął się szczerze uśmiechać. Do tego to nie był pierwszy raz, gdy ktoś mu bliski został zakażony pasożytniczym obcym…
I tym razem to on jest tym, który pociąga za spust.
Relacja Natsukiego i Reiji’ego jest… trudna. Teraz przyszło się dowiedzieć dlaczego. Takie hate-love relationship, do tego z ogromną dawką wykorzystywania – od teraz nawet z obu stron. Ale obaj się na to godzą i cóż, nie ułatwiają sobie też sprawy. Toksyczne w ciul.

Dlatego jak to dobrze, że jest przeciwwaga w postaci Akiry i Sho! Czyli dla odmiany zgrany duet nowego pokolenia agentów. Zgrany i przeuroczy, niewinny i trochę naiwny w tej przyjaźni. Dlatego chyba będę siedzieć jak na szpilkach, aż nie pojawi się kolejny tom! Kto to widział kończyć w takim momencie, gdy Gunji’ego porwano!
A ten ciołek Sho nawet nie zauważył! Ale jak już się dowie, to tam chyba zrobi jesień średniowiecza… Nie chciałabym być w skórze tych, którzy staną mu na drodze w uratowaniu Akiry.

Aaaaaa, agak tragis kisah Pak Hyogo dan Chizu ini. Dan sangat amat nyebelin ya, hubungan Pak Amamiya dan Pak Hyogo ini. Si Gie makin benci sama Pak Amamiya... (kebencian ini tidacc kututup-tutupi bwek).
Aku ingiiiin~ secepatnyaaaaa balik ke kisah duo bocil (???) Sho dan Akira.... Berikan aku yang manis-manis cute sweety honey uwuwu.... Sebsgai obat penawar(?) duo orang dewasa yang terlampau penuh intrik, konflik, dan rahasia yang nyebelin.........
Btw, aku kangen duo informan china itu juga, Yuen dan Meimei.....

i think tokyo aliens is a nice example of doing cliches/tropes well.... like its fun even though its been done over and over and over. anyway why did sho and akira have a scene talking about falling in love and sho just looked at him fondly and akira said We cant talk about it without ruining our relationship... but im happy w what we have now. Genuinely what did this mean

4.25 stars | Oh, we are so back. Angsty Natsuki/Amamiya backstory, Akira and Sho being awkward teenagers (love them), and that cliffhanger? Obsessed. I just find the character dynamics in this series really enjoyable, and the parasite alien concept in this volume was interesting. Also what in the LGBTQ is going on with these character pairings lol, Happy Pride!

We are taken back to when Natsuki and Amamiya met for the first half. Then the second half takes us back to Akira & Sho, setting up for a black market arch.

I love the characters interactions and personalities, they all bring something to the table and keeps it interesting. Still enjoy the art too!
