美しい彼 [Utsukushī Kare] #4

My Beautiful Man: Interlude

Rate this book
Kazunari Hira is not what you'd call popular. In fact, he's basically on the lowest rung of the social ladder, due largely to his stutter that tends to flare up when he's anxious. And then there's Sou Kiyoi, leader of the pack and the most beautiful man Hira has ever seen. When Hira is made the popular group's gofer, he realizes that he doesn't mind his lowly position so much when the orders are coming from Kiyoi's lips. In fact, Hira treasures every order Kiyoi gives him and every bit of change he's handed to run errands. Could he actually be... in love?

A cute collection of stories.

I really liked the ones that focused on expanding Hira's character, because when we just get scenes from Hira's perspective, he's so in his head, negative, and focused on Kiyoi that we just don't really get to see what's going on in his life or around him. So I really enjoyed getting to see his interactions with the other Kiyoi fans and with his mom.

I ALSO really loved the scene we were given of Kiyoi's past -- his family background has been mentioned often in the past, but this was the first time we got to see it directly, and Nagira captured all of the intense emotions of a child so well and it perfectly fit with the person Kiyoi is today. Like, I really felt like I understood where he comes from and how he became the person he is, so that was really cool.

The bonus scenes from volume three were interesting -- I'm not sure if all of them were 'necessary,' meaning that I don't think they really needed to be written as the story of volume three was solid on it's own, but a lot of them ended up winning me over. The paranormal sections made me laugh out loud, and Kiyoi's growing friendship/mentorship of Tomoya was actually really cute.

Esto es una colección de historias cortas de momentos que ocurren a lo largo del tomo 1 y 3. Son cortos entretenidos y que dan más detalle de la vida de Kiyoi y Hira. Me encantó. Y estaré atenta a cuando salga ya el siguiento tomo de la historia.

Reading this manga really tests my patience. Watching the character development between the MC and ML progress so slowly makes me want to jump into the panels and explain what’s really going on between them.

Ugh, volume five is still a long way off. But since I’ve already watched the drama, I feel a bit more at ease.

Not everyone gets MBM like the author and I do and that is okay… I loved this. I was thinking of ignoring it cuz I thought it was just a compilation of what we had read before, but I was wrong.

Decided to buy it just because, and I don’t regret it.

Will probably buy all the volumes (including the interlude) once they’re all licensed to English.

I love Nagira Yuu’s writing so much.

This is for the deep-diving fans that are looking for more POVs to some favorite scenes. I didn't expect this to be as enjoyable as the main story, but I was wrong.

Gross Hira being gross:
Watching a Tv drama that Kiyou starred in with Kiyou himself. Sou Kiyou in front of him and Sou Kiyoi beside him. What should he do if he became choked with happiness and died? No, the bigger problem was that he didn't have enough eyes. Which Kiyou should he look at? The one in front of him? The one beside him? Humans can't make their eyes look in both directions, can they? If only he had multiple sets of eyes like an insect. (I love this weirdo.)

Kiyou talking to Anna after finding Hira at home in a meditation ceremony:
K: It seriously freaked me out. I thought I'd gotten used to his gross weirdness since we started living together, and now this... He always exceeds my expectations in the worst possible way.
A: What will you do? If he's a lunatic, maybe you should reconsider dating h─
K: I wonder it there's a way to do something about his creepiness. Even just a little bit...
A: What you're going to try to fix him instead of breaking up with him?
K: Huh? Why would I break up with him? (Kiyou & Hira belong together─a perfect couple of weirdos...)

I didn't realize this was a short story collection when I got it (I love the series so much, I didn't really check, LOL), and I am not the biggest fan of those. Overall, they were fine. There were a couple I enjoyed, especially Kiss Me and Regarding Love, which were both on the longer side and felt like they could've been part of the volumes they occur in (one and three, respectively). I do wish Naho would just divorce her scumbag husband... And dare I say it, it seems like we're heading toward the couple coming out to their families?? I hope we will see it in volume 4!

Side note, the side story "Where Can I Rest" was already included in volume 2 so I'm confused about its inclusion here.

This volume is a compilation of short stories about Hira and Kiyoi, their relationship and also how the story develops in the margins with different characters and their POVs. It was very interesting to see the outside world of Hira and Kiyoi.
