HELP! I'm being stalked by a "Not Deer"...

What else am I supposed to think when I get a flat tire on a dirt road and have to walk home? At night. In a part of the country where monsters and demons are more than just myths. But this Deer Demon is relentless, and manages to get me into his cave. Alone. Where it's clear he wants more from me than just friendship, if you know what I mean. At first, I'm horrified. But the more time I spend with him? The more my guard lowers. And that gets me thinking. Would it be so bad to tame this Deer Demon for myself?

Taming the Deer Demon is a spicy, dual viewpoint, monster romance novella for mature readers, and the first standalone in the novella series Demon Lords of the Forest. Please check the preview to view the Trigger Warnings.

Aww, ok, I really loved Deer Boy. (also, that nickname is just really cute) I liked how awkward and inexperienced he was in the beginning, but then it felt like midway through, he was just suddenly super confident and could do it all. I still loved him, and I was glad that he and Christine were able to figure it out. I would have loved to see more of them coming to terms with their relationship bc he went from kidnapping her to leaving her really fast lol. But Christine did fall fast and they worked really well together. He was so sweet in caring for her when her migraine came on!
I loved Cambrion the most; he is such a sweetheart, and I loved all the ear twitches and his little tail! 10/10. I would love to snuggle Deer Boy. I am super interested in this world!! I cannot wait for more books because I want to know about all the Forest Lords and why they were cursed and what needs to be done to break them.

A cozy romantasy novella with spice and magic galore! Fae curses, drama, ex's, deer demon and fated mates, you sold yet? The writing was paced beautifully and kept me hooked. The world building was awesome and you really felt like you were there in the woods with Cambion and Christine. The spice picks up early and grows throughout the story so you definitely won't be left yearning. I can't wait to see where Stephanie takes this series!

🌶🌶🌶/5

This is the first work I've read by this author, and she did not disappoint in the slightest! This super cute, quick, spicy read was such a lovely pallet cleanser. It's pacing fit with the overall length of the book, there was some excellent spice all throughout, and it left me wanting to read more. Which is great, because it sounds like this is book 1 of an interconnected novella series with more installations planned for the future. Don't stress though, because Cambion and Christine's story wraps up neatly at the end of this one - no cliffhangers, HEA granted, all tied up nice and neat.  Overall, I really enjoyed this quick novella and I recommend it to fans of Opal Reyne and to those who like their MMC to be a little dark, a little possessive, not entirely human, but overtly sweet, romantic, and protective. If you like the sound of that, then chances are, Cambion will be your next favorite book bf 🦌

Oh what a beautifully written - kinda cottage core - cozy romantasy.

I’ve loved the Assassins series by Stephanie and this book while having a completely different vibe and style is still just as perfect as that one! Can’t wait for the next books in this series.

This book has a perfect pacing, swoony romance, some really interesting and unique magic/demon system and really likeable characters!

The plot, even though it was simple, had some unpredictable moments that very pleasantly surprised me. I was rooting for the characters and at the end felt very fulfilled by their arcs.

Stephanie is an extremely talented author! And this book is perfection! I very much recommend this book - even if you haven’t read a monster romance before! And then check out other amazing books by her too!

Deer boy

So cute. I loved all the inner turmoil. It was nice to see a thought process just like mine with all the anxiety. I also get migraines and it was nice to see that too. I feel very represented. Like I deserve my own deer boy. Sigh. If only. It was such a good book though. I’m very excited for the next one.

I flippin LOVED this book. This story was surprising and delightful. I'd never read a monster romance before, but the quotes and excerpts from this were just so good I had to try it. And my gosh, I did not put it down from the first sentence all the way to the end. It was pure entertainment.

The story starts with Christine lost in the woods, late at night after her car broke down, with nothing but legends of the deadly Deer Demon to keep her company. Not far into her trek, Christine is stalked by this very demon, who kinda wants to eat her, but he is intrigued by her and quickly decides that he would rather eat her (wink). Some very sexy monster time ensues.

The characterization of MMC Deer Boy is actually pretty nuanced, and it's thoroughly enjoyable seeing him open up emotions he'd never had before. He is possessive, innocent, bashful, narcissistic, but overall just completely enamored with FMC Christine, who I ALSO loved because she was quirky, anxious, sweet, and so so funny. Together they were straight fire on the page. Loved them together. Adorable.

This story had great spice, fun lore, and tons of lines that made me cackle-laugh and wake up my husband. I will be reading anything this author writes!

Readers may experience a desire to get lost in the Kentucky woods late at night with the intention of being stalked by a "Not Deer" Demon Lord of the forest. Maybe...

This book was so much fun to write! I've never completed a book more quickly because the ideas just flowed. Deer Boy will always hold a special place in my heart because he's my first monster MMC.

UPDATE 4/22/25 - Finished my re-read! I am ready to continue writing Fox Boy's story, which you can find a link for in the Kindle version of this book, as well as on my social media. I will also be updating the Author's Note since a lot has changed since I wrote this book. Thank you to all my readers who love Deer Boy's story!

“You listen to me, love.” I whisper against her lips. “No man should ever make you feel that you are less than the goddess you are. And no one should ever make you feel unwanted.”

I really enjoyed this book! Cambrion and Christine were so cute together. Cambrion was such a sweetheart. It was endearing that he was inexperienced but wanted to please Christine. I loved getting to read his POV as he grabbled with his growing feelings for his fated mate. Also, I loved the nicknames they had for each other. The spice was HOT, as was Cambrion with his possessiveness and "touch her and die" vibes. Besides the spice, there was also a lot of vulnerability as both Cambrion and Christine came to terms with their special connection. This monster romance is perfect as a quick read, especially if you enjoy some well deserved justice against a manipulative and controlling ex. Please read the TWs!

I was given a copy of this book, but all opinions are my own! This novela is a quick and spicy read but there were also so many aw ☺️ moments between the two main characters as well. Our FMC, Christine, finds herself stranded in the woods of Kentucky and happens into the territory of Cambion, the Deer Demon Lord of the Forest. Cambion definitely gives Cardan Greenbriar and Alastor from Hazbin Hotel vibes 👀

There’s a solid amount of drama packed into this novella too with the reveal of fae cursed and fated mates and Christine’s jealous ex.

For me, this read is a
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 on the spice scale.
Could be spicier, but maybe I’m a heathen.

This was such an amazing start to a series! Even though it was short, it was well paced and the every aspect of the plot was explained or taken care of by the end. I really loved both Christine and Cambion, she was honestly making the same choices I would’ve made when she encountered him. I could picture all the scenes in the forest so clearly and I loved every scene.

The spice was top tier and I LOVED seeing Cambion all nervous and eager to please when the first steamy scene happened. It was absolutely adorable and super hot, and he just grew more sure of himself as time went on! I really enjoyed the ending and I can’t wait to read more in this series, Fox Demon here I come!

Taming the Deer Demon is a cute and spicy monster novella. Christine and Cambion are such an adorable couple. Christine's car breaks down in the forest at night and that's how she meets Cambion. He is one of the forest's cursed demon lords. Christine is sweet, funny and is trying to deal with her anxieties. Cambion is arrogant, sweet, possessive and protective. I loved the chemistry between them. It was pouring out of the pages. The story is captivating and charming, sweet and very romantic. I am looking forward to reading more about the other forest demon lords and their ladies!

I enjoyed this book, loved Deer Boy, and really appreciated Christine's representation of severe anxiety. However, a choppy villain can really bring a story down, and that was the case for this. I really didn't care about Justin. The signs and red flags were few and far between, didn't make sense, and just felt thrown together for the sake of the plot. He wasn't a villain that I truly wanted to murder myself. It was closer to a 3 star for me, but I did finish it in only a few days, so that says that I enjoyed it enough not to put it down.

Disclaimer: I was given an arc copy of this book but all opinionsare my own.

This novella was so enjoyable. I don't typically love books in present tense but with this book, I completely forgot it was in present tense while reading. This book also isn't rushed which I find happens with a lot of stand alone novellas. Cambion is a sweetheart with so much love to give and you will easily fall in love with him. Christine has been through so much and absolutely deserves the love Cambion gives her.

I wasn't Cambion's fan in the beginning, but he grew on me, and I got to really like him. The heroine was okay. I didn't like the conflict with her ex. I really didn't like how it all turned out and how it was handled. But, overall, I did enjoy this book, and I'm probably going to read the next one in the series.

Thank you!

I adored this story. You did such a great job. The new learning curves and vulnerability for both characters were such an important role, and you did well creating that for us! I really, really hope to see this series continued! I loved it.

loved it!!

I love how sweet and caring the MMC is in this and I also like that both of them has anxieties and fears and it shows and it makes them feel more real on top of. I love that she isn’t a dumb FMC!!!!
