Kenzie Hart is a beautiful curvy twenty-four year old young woman living in small town Flat Rock on the west coast. She's struggling to make ends meet and taking of her little teenager sister Ruby. Tate had inherited a handful of properties scattered up and California coast, and dotted in major cities across the states, and an apartment in Paris. He also had house Chicago where he grew before going to boarding school, but he auction that one off. The house in Flat Rock had been neglected for twenty years, a nice Victorian but he was going to fix it up. He was coming from he store one day, when a little boy skate in front of his truck wearing big baggy clothes. He thought he hit him so he got out to check. But when he came face-to-face with the kid he noticed that it was a girl with a very caustic mouth.
He tell her that he was going to her to the hospital because something could be broken but she didn't want to go because she was worried that someone name Kenzie will be mad. He told that they could call from the hospital. Tate call Kenzie from while they were waiting to be triage. Kenzie left her job even though her boss Will was a butt about the situation and didn't want her to leave. When Tate saw Kenzie walk in it was lust-at-first-sight. Kenzie was also attracted to him even though she has a no date rule. One look at the major and all the rules when out the window. Kenzie was thinking about how expensive this visit to hospital was going to be for their budget and that she didn't have the money. She accidentally say it out loud without being aware of it, money is not a problem for Tate so he decided to pay the bill in pull for her. One of Kenzie's dad friend Mac Campbell has been stalking and harassing her immediately after the death of her parents. He proposed to her, at first he acted like a dad who will be there for them. But he gave them bad investment advice because her dad didn't outright out the home. He's now harassing her daily at her job Burger Jeff and her boss will not do anything about. Whenever she talks to a customer in comes and inserts him. He even follows her to restroom and if he doesn't get his way he goes and complain to her boss who then yells at her that the customer is not happy.
Mac tells her in no uncertain terms that he wants to do something with her for Valentine's Day this year. He knows that it's really hard for both Kenzie and Ruby on that day because on the death. Kenzie was mad at Tate for not coming back and waiting with her while Ruby get her X-rays but the nurse told him family only, that when he decided to pay the bill. So when he walked into Burger Jeff she give a hug and he told Mac that they he was her Valentine's Day date. Mac was mad and asked him where he came from because he had been waiting for her for years so he was about to let some tourist get her. Kenzie was hurting and she wanted a different memory of Valentine's Day instead of sadness, so she invited Tate to come over for pizza and beer. One beer and the clothes were off and she were no longer a virgin. She liked how Tate made her that they kept doing. However, they forgot the condom and you what happens.
Mac his a sixty year foul, creepy, disgusting man. Tate had his friend Allan another soldier who was serving under him but lost his one leg came and stay with him at the house and he would help him fix it up and Tate would pay. Tate and Kenzie and Ruby relationship got good where he would pick up Ruby from school and she would go to his house and work and he would pay her. Allan had been become an intricate of the household. However, Mac and his foolish and him believing that he knows Kenzie happens when he saw her interacting with Allan and threw the the man food away. Because Allan was already tethering and then Mac behavior made his mind slip and he thought he was back in the war and he was going to take care of that crazy fool. The writer deals with soldiers coming back from war dealing with horrors of PTSD, and nightmares.
Poor Tate had forgotten what to do in the situation but he considered Kenzie, Ruby Allan as his family and he didn't want anyone to get hurt. Allan was his primary focus in his crisis and he do so he ended up hurting Ruby and Kenzie. He took to VA hospital to get care he needed four hours away and stayed with him three weeks. Although he wasn't responsible for him losing his leg somehow he feels like he did. Kenzie had got tired of Mac's antics and pour the drinks in his lap and toss the cup in his face. All the time Will care to step in always telling her to fight her own battle but he was quick to come out then and told her that she was fired. There was some misunderstanding, and miscommunication that tear Tate and Kenzie apart, and Kenzie was too independent and prideful to go to Tate for help, she would rather go to the creepy man who doesn't like her little sister. I love Ruby because she's team Tate all the way.

The is an age gap romance of former Army Major Tate and Kenzie. Kenzie has been taking care of her younger sister since her parents died when she was nineteen and Kenzie was eight years old. Now about 5 years later, Kenzie is doing the best she can to care for Ruby and working at a fast food restaurant and trying to explain life to a 13 year old Ruby. Complicating their situation, is the unwanted attention of a friend of her father’s named Mac who constantly harasses Kenzie while she is at work. Enter Major Tate… He is recently retired from the Army and ended up in Flat Rock. Tate is now pretty wealthy after being left an inheritance from his father than included a house in Flat Rock.
The meet cute between Kenzie and Tate happens when Ruby breaks her wrist skateboarding and falls in front of Tate’s truck. There is a cute “stranger danger” scene but ultimately Tate comes to the rescue taking Ruby to the hospital and contacting Kenzie.
The way this story unfolds is great. The side characters make this story even more compelling and how Kenzie and Tate navigate their feelings while staying true to themselves is really well written. I am giving this story a rare 5 stars and adding it to my reread list for sure!!.

When Kenzie becomes an adult and parent overnight after the passing of her parents and happily raising her younger sister, Ruby. Kenzie has become a pro on how to make their money work and have learned to live on bare minimum standards on their own. When a family after offers his help all he does is give her bad advice then tries to take advantage of her by forcing marriage. When Major Tate retires from the army he finds himself at one of his father’s home and slowly learns how to live as a civilian in a small town with good childhood memories. Ruby gets hurt while skateboarding and Tate avoiding hitting her in his truck only to feel responsible and getting her help in the ER. Tate has an unbelievable reaction to Kenzie and wants nothing but to help and be there for her and Ruby. They set off on their journey with those out to cause trouble, misunderstandings, incredible chemistry. It’s beautiful to see how Tate takes in a fellow soldier needing guidance and help with PTSD. Being wealthy and with a heart of gold Tate has a struggle to get Kenzie to see him as the man for her and all the good that can come to her and Ruby! The good, the bad and the ugly. Tate has just retired from the service. He has moved to a small town where he has inherited some land (house + barn + workshop). Tate no longer has to work because of his inheritance. On his way to the hardware store he almost hits someone on a skateboard. That’s his first introduction to Ruby. Ruby has a little sass to her, a little sarcasm but right now she has a broken wrist. Tate is a take charge kind of guy. He is taking her to the ER. At the ER Tate needs to call Ruby’s sister Kenzie. Kenzie is her guardian. When Tate meets Kenzie he feels something - tingles, a spark, a connection something he has never felt before. It’s going to get very interesting! Does Kenzie feel it? Does Ruby notice? This story is filled with emotions - caring, tenderness, sadness, playfulness, deception, passion, romance and the ultimate - love. A complete story filled with everything you would want. I really enjoyed this story there was so much happening with the characters you just want them to succeed! It’s good!.

I've read a few books by Ava Gray and they are always consistently good, this book is no exception. I loved both main characters. Kenzie is doing her best, looking after her little sister after their parents died and growing up way too fast. Life is a general struggle. On top of that one of her parent's friends, who they thought would look after the girls if anything happened to them, is harassing Kenzie and pressuring her into dating him. Tate, the "major," is retired from the army (there is an age gap, he's 40 and Kenzie is 25) and he arrives in town to refurbish a house that once belonged to his grandfather. Tate and Kenzie meet when he brings her sister to the hospital after a skateboarding accident. There are ups and downs, and Kenzie is unwilling to accept the help she desperately needs, especially with getting rid of Creepy McCreeperface. All gets sorted by the end though. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it, particularly if you like military romances. The smut is mid-level.

This was such a good story. Kenzie was struggling to work and raise her younger sister when their parents were killed in an auto accident. Her sister, Ruby, meets Tate when she rides her skate board across the street in front of him and crashes - breaking her wrist. He takes her to the ER and then calls Kenzie. He also pays for the bill, since he realized she didn't have the money for it. The story had a twist as a friend of her parents gave her bad financial advice and wanted to marry her. He was way older and creepy. He kept bothering her at work and finally got her fired. Tate had some issues when one of the soldier that had reported to him when he was in the Army came to stay with him and was spiralling out of control. There were many misunderstandings, some hot sex and a new baby. A good story that I enjoyed reading.

So, I had to sit on this for a few days. Basically concept was good but there were some ick moments that made it hard to trudge through. There was an odd sense of entitlement from the female characters towards the male mc when it came to financial aid. It was weird and just off putting. Scene where he's denied entry and leaves the skateboard with the front desk nurse and both females are acting like he was such a huge dick without all the information. Then he doesn't buy kid sister a phone right the second she wants it so both sisters once again acting like he did something horrible. I liked some aspects of it but the uncomfortable vibes I got was pretty cringe much of the time. Tate also had ick moments. Idk I would've liked it had the characters just been more chill about the majority of circumstances they would have full fledge issues with. And the I'm going to marry this old bitch was a big nah. It's an ok quick read but not without it's infuriating moments.

This contemporary romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building and characters that are realistic and captivating. Their journey is enthralling with being taken by the Major, an age-gap Valentine's Day romance, mature explicit romance that is engulfed by steamy sizzling passion, lust, desire, and spice with all the feelings to make readers hot and bothered, small-town romance, age-gap, ex-military, secret pregnancy, virgin, fake dating, billionaire alpha male, heartfelt emotions, drama, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with being take by the Major and explicit romance that is sure to take readers on an exhilarating roller coaster ride that is wild and unforgettable.

This was a truly great read, the perfect mix of plot, angst, romance, and hot times, there is substance to this story and it deals really well with some sensitive topics.
I found the side characters such as Kenzie's Sister, Ruby and Tate's former soldier friend, Allen to be well developed and I think they play an important role in the overall story. I love Ruby, her humour and sass, though Kenzie and Tate do still take precedence.
While part of a series, the book does standalone, this is the first in this lengthy series that I have read (though I have read other great books in a different series by Ava Gray), it has me hooked, I will be going back to read the others.

I loved Taken by the Major: An Age Gap Valentine's Day Romance. Kenzie is barely getting by raising her sister after her parents died. Tate inherited a lot when his father died including the old Victorian he is restoring. It’s fate meeting Kenzie, her sister crashed in front of him breaking her wrist. Now he knows he never wants to let her go but he needs to be patient she has a stalker of sorts and he has a friend that he’s trying to help. Things get complicated and a misunderstanding threatens their future. I loved the storyline and the characters. A sweet story with a few tears. I would definitely recommend this book.

Kenzie is struggling. Her parents died, leaving her the sole carer of her little sister, Ruby. She works two jobs, neither of which are great and is being harassed by her parents friend, Mac. He gave her a year to grieve then tried to steamroll her into marrying him. She is at the end of her tether.
Tate has inherited wealth and property on the death of his father, whom he was estranged from. Not even sure if he wants to stay, that is until he meets Kenzie and Ruby, then it feels like home. Now he just has to persuade Kenzie.
A wonderful feel good romance. Perfect.

Tate has just retired from the military, he no longer has to work due the inheritance from his father, that has brought him to town. He meets Kenzie when he brings her little sister to the emergency room for a broken wrist. Kenzie has been guardian over her sister since their parents died when she was nineteen. They are struggling to make end meet and a trip to the hospital is not in the budget. Tate feels something for Kenzie, a protective feeling for both girls.
This is an entertaining read (due to Ruby) with plenty of drama.

This is a beautify written story

Give me Tate any day of the week. He sounds like the sexiest man alive. There is nothing HOTTER than an ex-military man who is built like a machine. Kenzie is so lovable and hardworking and what is sad is how she doesn't think she is good enough for Tate. This book feels like a HEAT WAVE is about to take you away and let me just say for the record I would let it. So, enjoy reading this astounding book because it is AWESOME.

Very good story, he has everything to give you an entertaining reading, after leaving his life as a soldier Tate is going to take care of the inheritance that his father left him, and there he meets Kenzie who is a girl who is having many complications in life raising her little sister. From there begins the attraction between them, but nothing is easy, there are many complications along the way. It is worth reading this book.

This was one of those feel good books❣📚
I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say how the book made me feel. I felt incredibly sad for Kenzie and Ruby. I know what its like when there is not enough hours in the day or money to go around. Kenzie was so strong through everything she dealt with. And Ruby was the perfect 13 yo. I know I wasn't great at that age, but she was still a tough cookie and a good kid. The Major was a great character and I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Its definitely worth reading ❣🥰

This is a story about an old man trying to take advantage of a younger woman, the young woman and her younger sister, a retired Army Major, and an injured military guy. And it all takes place right around Valentine's Day. It is one of those books that you don't want to end. Great storyline and even better characters.

I enjoyed this age gap story, I felt a connection to the characters, believed in their connection and chemistry, and enjoyed the side characters too. I liked that Tate had just as strong a relationship with Ruby than he did with Kenzie, and that they were both able to learn from their mistakes, self reflect and get to their HEA.

I was immediately pulled into Tate and Kenzie’s love journey and couldn’t put it down. Sweet story with wonderful characters, strong feisty FMC, challenges, Ex Military Knight in shining armor, a turn-your-stomach stalker, a sassy teen, depths of PTSD, steamy moments, humor, misunderstanding, tension, surprises, and love leading to a HEAT. Emotion evoking read.

This story's wonderful layers pulling you deeper into the story as you read. Tate is a hero with his own demons, but they don't stop him from moving forward or helping others. Kenzie is a relatable heroine who could use a hand up in life, but after trusting the wrong person finds it hard to accept the help she needs. I was thoroughly engrossed in this. Excellent story. Now tells about Allan's story.

Love Love Loved it!
Such a great book, I truly did not want it to end. Tate and Kenzie had some ups and downs but the love was there from the beginning. Ruby brought so much life to this story as well. One thing this book had was tones of PTSD of disabled veterans, and as a parent of one, my heart swelled with the attention to detail Ms. Gray provided (however minor) on that issue. I can not say enough good things about this story and highly highly recommend.

Kenzie is a 24 year old women who is struggling to keep a roof over her head along with her teenager sister Ruby. Kenzie took over guardian of Ruby when she was 19 after their parents death. Tate is a former military major who is very well off and is the totally opposite of Kenzie. Enjoyed their story.
