Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but having sex with someone else while you’re on a “break” sounds a whole lot like cheating to me. At the very least it’s very hurtful and inconsiderate especially if you were the one who instigated the break. If she wanted to sleep with someone, that’s her right, but she should have at least had the decency to break it off properly first.
The fact that her previous boyfriend had wanted to take things slow and get to know her before sharing physical intimacy made what she did feel even more wrong to me. He was clearly someone who placed value on sexual intimacy and I didn’t like the implication that that was in any way a negative or unexciting choice. If that’s not the kind of relationship she wants, that’s fine, but it’s nothing to sneer at. She should have been direct about what she wanted from the start and released him to find someone who will appreciate those things about him instead of stringing him along.
Safe to say this was never going to be a favorite for me. I have zero interest in a cheating trope and while I wouldn’t say that was 100% what this was, it was too close for my taste. Brody & Hayden’s relationship formed out of insta lust and the author had the audacity to throw in a third act breakup at the end to really seal this as a nope for me. If you live for hockey romances you might enjoy this, but it’s not a book I would recommend.

i love elle kennedy. like, i ride for her. she gave us the deal, the mistake, and an entire chokehold era of hockey romance. but body check? girl… what was going on 😭
this book genuinely felt like a wattpad draft that somehow got published. the plot is hanging on by a thread (like a literal dental floss string), and the rest is just nonstop smut that lacks chemistry or connection. and listen, i love some spice. i’m no stranger to a good steamy read. but this didn’t even feel like romance—it felt like she wrote all the sex scenes first and then tried to glue a story around them. and spoiler: the glue didn’t stick.
you can definitely tell this was written years ago because the writing feels dated, cringey at times, and wildly unrealistic. hayden and brody had all the emotional depth of a kiddie pool, and the forced drama made me roll my eyes so many times i probably sprained something.
that being said, i didn’t give it one star because… it’s elle kennedy. we all have to start somewhere, and this just proves how far she’s come. she went from this to building an entire hockey romance empire, so i’ll forgive her. but i won’t be rereading this mess anytime soon 💀

You can definitely tell this is like a first book vibe. It just goes to show how far Elle has come! I read it because I love her books. I didn’t mind it. Just wasn’t the best like the others I’ve read so far.

I was in the mood for a really short, hot sports romance, and this one filled the bill perfectly. I had forgotten how hot the Harlequin Blaze books can get, because at times this one bordered on the erotic. It was a pretty steamy read about an Art History professor (Hayden) looking for a 'fling' to spice up her stale love life before she settled down with Mr. Safe and Boring, and a sexy, formerly bad boy hockey star (Brody) who was tired of a life of 'flings' and was now looking for something more fulfilling. There were some tough times in the relationship, including the fact that Hayden's father (who just so happened to be the owner of the team that Brody played for) was implicated in a game fixing scandal, accused of having some players on his team 'throw' the games, and then betting on the outcomes. There were plenty of scorching moments between the H/H as Brody tried to convince Hayden that their relationship was more than a temporary thing based only on sex. I enjoyed seeing Hayden realize that what she thought she wanted in a relationship was not what she really needed, and I was glad when she finally decided to give Brody a real chance. Although for the life of me I don't know why she resisted so much! Not only was this guy hot with a capital 'H', intelligent and fun, he was also eager to settle down and one day start a family, all the things that Hayden claimed to want. The only thing that seemed to be standing in their way was his career, which Hayden seemed to have an unfair resentment of, based on growing up with a dad who was a hockey coach who didn't have much time for her. But once Hayden decided to compromise and open her eyes to what was right in front of her, it was pretty much smooth sailing.
So all in all, a pretty fast, easy read, perfect for the sports romance fan who likes the romance on the spicy side. As an added bonus, there was a pretty satisfying epilogue, which isn't always the case with romances these days. Nice little afternoon read--4 stars!

I love a hockey romance, and this one was enjoyable! It did bring up an interesting question… if you need ‘space’ or are on ‘a break’ is it okay to sleep with other people? I would say no so that part of the book really didn’t work for me. I liked Hayden and Brody together and by the end, I had a smile on my face.

I would have given this three stars for its completely adequate story, but it lost me at the beginning with the mention of Hayden being a "junior professor." First of all, what the hell is a "junior professor"? Did the author mean assistant professor? Also, UC Berkeley isn't going to hire a tenure-track professor who hasn't finished their PhD yet. /end pedantry

This book was interesting enough to keep me entertained on this lazy Sunday - and the eye candy at the cover didn't hurt... :) I didn't like the fact that Hayden's relationship with her "former boyfriend"(?) wasn't really over before she got envolved with Brody but, at least, she was honest about it with both men. That wasn't cheating, was it? Hmmm...

This book was soo cute. Brady was adorableee gah. It felt like I hadn’t read a sports romance in years and this one quenched my thirst so perfectly.
I finished this book in two days and I’ve not done that in what feels like ages bc recently no book has singularly gripped me to the point I won’t pick up my other books I’m also currently reading.

Reduce dalla serie Campus pensavo di andare a colpo sicuro con questo libro, nonostante già il titolo non mi attraesse. Una delusione, una Elle Kennedy irriconoscibile. Andando poi a leggere le notizie in rete è venuto fuori che è un titolo molto vecchio dell' autrice, riproposto dalla casa editrice elit solo cambiando la cover. La zuppa riscaldata non mi è mai piaciuta, ma a parte questo, nel romanzo manca quel coinvolgimento e quell' emozione che sono tipici dell' autrice. Tranne la descrizione fisica dei personaggi che ho trovato comunque meritevole e capace di far immaginare i due protagonisti, dal punto di vista caratteriale e di carisma, il nulla! Personaggi senza spessore. Vogliamo parlare della trama? Inconsistente. Tanto fumo e niente arrosto. Se lo scopo era aggiungere un tocco di suspense che intrigasse il lettore non è riuscito. Dalla metà del libro in poi ho perso interesse, sono andata avanti perché non riesco a lasciare un libro. Altra cosa che non ho apprezzato è il non specificare, da parte della CE, che erano due romanzi in uno. La seconda autrice, povera, non viene proprio menzionata ed a dire il vero, forse merita più il suo racconto che quello della Kennedy. Comunque, se vi aspettate di trovare la Kennedy della Campus, perdete ogni speranza.

Quizás Elle Kennedy me tiene mal acostumbrada. Con sus anteriores libros he reído, me he enamorado, y he sentido cada palabra como si fuera mía. Sin embargo, este libro me ha dejado más bien fría.
La historia tiene una premisa atractiva y, aunque el estilo de la autora sigue siendo ágil y fácil de leer, sentí que en esta ocasión faltó algo más de profundidad en los personajes y en el desarrollo de ciertas situaciones clave. Me costó conectar emocionalmente con la trama, y eso hizo que el libro no me atrapara como otros de ella.
No descarto que haya sido cosa mía. A veces simplemente no es el momento adecuado para una historia, por eso os animo a leerlo y sacar vuestras propias conclusiones. Tal vez lo disfrutéis más que yo.

Elle Kennedy is no doubt the queen of hockey romances. This one was exactly what it said it was. It was labeled as a spicy romcom and it delivered on that. It was super cute and there lots of spicy moments as well. The characters were likable and had a lot of chemistry. This was really there type of book where you get a story, plot, and characters with a lot of depth so don’t go into it expecting that. But it was really good at what it was meant to be. A short, spicy, enjoyable read.

Så roligt att ha fått läsa den allra första hockeyromansen av min hockeyqueen, Elle Kennedy. Man ser verkligen basen och grunden till vad komma skall i form av Off Campus och Briar U. Det var en lättsam och het romcom i hockeyvärlden, med mycket spice, men också mycket story runt omkring. Precis som Kennedys övriga böcker så är det runda karaktärer, och en handling som får en engagerad. Gillade också att karaktärerna var äldre, vilket ju är en stor skillnad mot hennes övriga hockeyböcker som är i genre New Adult. Alltså i åldrarna 18-22. Sen kan jag väl tycka att det känns lite väl otroligt att som 26 åring vara professor vid prestigefyllda Berkeley, men aja 😂 Det är väl det som är det magiska med böcker, allt är möjligt ✨ Jag gillade iallafall verkligen denna boken, det var en härlig läsupplevelse och gav flertalet skratt och fjärilar i magen 🦋🏒♥️

i expected a bit more!! don't get me wrong, this was honestly enjoyable, i just think there could've been some tweaks. but i absolutely love love love the hookup trope, i think it's such a simple and great way to start off a book.

BUT DAMN. idk how the hell she didn't jump off a cliff. she is literally a rock. everyone was leaning on her and she somehow didn't break.

i expected a bit more!! don't get me wrong, this was honestly enjoyable, i just think there could've been some tweaks. but i absolutely love love love the hookup trope, i think it's such a simple and great way to start off a book.

hayden houston || IM A LOUD AND PROUD HAYDEN DEFENDER!! she was going THROUGH ITTT. she was involved in a sex scandal, her dad relapsed and became a criminal, and on top of all that bs, SHE AND BRODY BROKE UP, IDEK IF THIS IS IN ORDER. BUT DAMN. idk how the hell she didn't jump off a cliff. she is literally a rock. everyone was leaning on her and she somehow didn't break.
brody croft || RAHHHHHHHHH. I <3 HOCKEYYYYYYYY!!! HE IS SO SJSJSJDJDD!?@?@?@ THAT ONE SCENE WHERE HE WAS BEING INTERVIEWED AND HE ASKED HAYDEN OUT ON LIVE TELEVISION? HOT. HE BEEN DOWN BAD SINCE THEY MADE EYE CONTACT. HE WAS LITERALLY BEGGING HER TO GO ON A DATE W HIM 😭😭, but i feel so bad 😭😭 this guy was BETRAYED by his best friend, idk how he didn't beat his ass. beck or whatever did all that 💀💀.

Not my fave of hers, you can tell it was a first effort. 🫤 Give me the Briar U or Off Campus Series any day, but this one just didn’t do it for me. 🤷🏼♀️

Ho un debole per i libri di Elle Kennedy, ma “Body Check” non ha soddisfatto del tutto le mie aspettative.
Forse se lo avessi letto un anno fa lo avrei apprezzato di più, ma vediamo nel dettaglio.
Hayden è un personaggio particolare, una ragazza che sembra non avere le idee chiare sulla sua vita amorosa. Da una parte c’è il ragazzo perfetto, dall’altra il bad boy che la attrae irresistibilmente e la fa sentire speciale come nessuno prima d’ora. Brody, in particolare, è un giocatore di hockey affascinante e sicuro di sé, e appena posa gli occhi su di lei, la vuole a tutti i costi. La tensione tra i due cresce esponenzialmente, creando momenti di grande intensità.A metà libro c’è anche un piccolo colpo di scena che ho apprezzato.
