Self-bondage is dangerous! Alysia finally gets it, when her ingenious experiment in self-bondage, with her fancy, new, stainless shackles, backfires. It’s a near death experience, after which she finds herself questioning the core of her sexuality and her fantasy-driven love for BDSM.
Living in a world of ring gags, battery packs, silicone gel, cat-suits, cat’o nine tails, leg cuffs, seven-inch dildos – you get the picture – this girl’s got serious fantasies. But screw the fantasy, she wants it real. How to make it happen without killing herself, she’s not so sure.
The prospect seems hopeless. That is until she hatches a wild plan to recruit the man who prevented her sure demise to assist with her crazy obsession – Andre, the apartment building’s ex-cop custodian. Dominate her? Fulfill her savage and kinky wishes? The possibilities are endless with just the right, slightly kinky, a bit sadistic, clearly dominant guy.
Turns out, Andre is that guy, and the naughty, nasty, natural-born slut, Alysia may see her dreams come true.
Is that the end of the story? A happily ever after? Not hardly! Master and slut will be in for a whole lot of headaches and heart aches before this sexy, no-holds-barred BDSM tale finally comes to an end.
This is a fun book. I'll just copy the review I did for Amazon:
The heroine, after nearly dying due to a self-bondage accident, is rescued by her building super, who, it turns out, is a former policeman. She is able to draw him into her bondage/masochist fantasy life and make it physically real. So far, kind of routine, right? Well... What makes this book so entertaining is that it is written in first person POV, and the narrator has just the right amount of ironic distance from her situation. This allows her to make the narrator self-deprecating and humorous. Which makes the book fun to read...especially given the real drama and suspense seen throughout the story. Is her building super (whose name is Andre, BTW) a for real partner who is protecting her and collaborating with her? Or is he dangerous? I'm being careful to avoid spoilers, but suffice it to say that toward the end of the book there is a plot twist which brings the story out of the realm of erotic fantasy and shows us something about the real world.
My one criticism of the book is formatting - specifically that dialogue between two characters is often placed within a single paragraph, which confuses the reader about who is saying what. But that's a minor flaw, easily cure by better editing. Otherwise, this is a delightful book! Very well written - descriptive, snappy dialogue, and over the top metaphors and similes that pound home the underlying humor of the story. I don't know anything about DX (the author) but I'll be looking for his/her other books. Meanwhile, I recommend buying this one.
I surprisingly liked this book. The blurb is pretty well done. The story is long enough. I don't like short stories. I can't do anything with that.
This book reminds me of some of Ashley Zacharias' stories: The impulse to realize various masochistic fantasies comes from the submissive. Alysia is the instigator here and Andre is responsible for the execution. He proceeds in a very creative and consistent manner.
Alysia works for corparte america as a data flow analytical tech. "I write algorithms.“ She has a stressful but well-paying job that she hates. She has no friends and is lonely. The story is told from her perspective.
Her humor and sarcastic wordplay surprised me. What she conjures up in her head is delicious.
Andre is probably a lot older than Alysia. He is a widower and father of adult children. The age difference is not a big issue in their relationship. He has considerably more life experience than Alysia. He is a retired cop He works as a building superintendent of a apartment house and has impressive technical skills. He is also lonely and has to work in a job he doesn't like. At first he can't buy into Alysia's fantasies.
The scenarios he runs on Alysia for her are great. The "missions" were amazing.
The police and court show was unexpected and the time frame seemed a bit too long for me. The whole thing was sad, of course, but I still liked this part.
The inclusion of “Heartland” in the epilogue was a bit contrived. “What a coincidence!” Was a bit unexpected. That could also have been described with a new acquaintance.
Ultimately it's a love story with a happy ending and that was okay.
What I didn't understand: “Bavarian Motor Works” ? In Germany no one calls a BMW "Bayrische Motoren Werke”.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Shackled having read and thoroughly enjoyed DX’s other book, The Reluctant Master. This one doesn’t disappoint with a great storyline that keeps you turning the pages. Alysia is the girl of my dreams with a deep need for being held in prolonged bondage and Andre is the lucky guy she chooses to help her achieve her wildest fantasies. It turns out he also has a pretty good imagination on things to do with her whilst she is under his total control!
As always, DX has a delightfully different style of writing and I look forward to the next book.
