Nora Bailey is a mess, on and off stage. A good kind of mess. The kind of mess that kisses the first person she sees after finding her ex cheating on her. Fake dating Wes, the boy who has been annoying her since they could speak, was not in the script that she’s been writing for her life. But she’s a romantic. And she knows there’s nothing better than a good plot twist.
Wes Mackenzie is just as much a mess as Nora, if not messier. Running has been his greatest strength since he was a kid, but that also means running away from his problems; one of them being a six-four man who coaches his football team and is also his dad. When he continues pressuring Wes to quit his playboy act and fix his attitude on and off the field, he knows just the person who can help. Being a theatre major has its perks, so Nora is sure she can put on the performance of a lifetime to save her dignity as a star at Drayton. Wes is not so good at acting, but for her, he’d do just about anything. Including ignoring the very real feelings that he has for her while trying to keep her as a friend.
When the final curtain closes, will either of them be able to put on their best faces or will their feelings for each other crash and burn right in front of the audience?
Dnf at 17% FMC was pathetic she was pissing me off also the pace is so slow and for what.Disappointing , everyone was yapping about it like it was good y’all are liars.
4/5 ⭐️ - The tension in this book omg!!! We need more books with tension because this book really hit the nail on the head. This author is truly one of the most underrated and I will literally read anything she writes. - Loved that this was a true friends to lovers story. Every single second felt so wholesome because they really loved and cared for each other before they shared their deeper feelings that they had. - The friendship group in this book is so good and now I can’t wait to read Elle & Archer’s story!
I really should have DNF’d this one to be honest. I love a good fake dating trope but this one just really bugged me, there also was like 0 spice lmao even at the end there was like one scene maybe? Also this book made Connor and Cat insufferable for me I actually think they are terrible friends lmao. Wes was treated like shit fr by most everyone tbh. The story also didn’t really have a solid foundation at the beginning in my opinion, I felt like there were too many things going on for the author to be able to properly juggle it all into a seamless and easy flow. I just didn’t enjoy it and I skimmed the last 40% truly. Blah.
i literally don’t know how to move on from wes and nora. their story was so perfect and sweet and hot and fun and im in shambles.
i relate to wes so hard with his inner battles and issues he goes through and the love between him and nora even as friends is so rare and special and i will protect them with my life 🥺
Thank you to Love Notes PR for an ARC copy of Our Secret Game in exchange for an honest review.
I haven’t read a friends to lovers plus fake dating before! At first i was sceptical on how it will work but ladies and gentlemen, it worked! It worked perfectly because Wes has always been in love with Nora. I will always love a story where the guy is so down bad for the girl.
The slow burn between these two gave me so much anxiety as I kept wondering if this was the moment they would admit they had feelings for each other, and when they didn't it would driving me crazy!
Jan always makes her characters relatable and i love that! Nora going through a really bad heart break & Wes having issues with his father and feeling lost. I loved them both so much, and i just want to give them both a hug.
This was just ok… idk I guess had high expectations. Knowing how Wes and Nora interacted in the previous book, I wanted more flirting not a slow burn. Love that they’re in love but it just felt like resistance until they gave in to how they’ve always felt. WHERES THE DRAMA.
"I'll do anything you want me to. I'll be anything you want me to be. Give me the word, and I'll get on my knees right now."
Tropes: 🌸 Cinnamon Roll MMC 🌸 Fake Dating . 🌸 Friends to Lovers 🌸 He falls first 🌸 One Bed 🌸 Mutual Pining 🌸 Brothers Best Friend
Wow! This one exceeded expectations and I had so much fun reading. There was banter, there was tension, there was will they won't they and there was a good slooow burn. <3 I found Nor to be pretty relatable and I loved both how the author voiced her character, and how rounded out all the characters were in general in this book.
“Nothing's ever a waste when it comes to you, you're exactly who I need.”
Can we talk about Wes, because SWOON. I don't read many friends to lovers books, but I loved this one. From page one he was unbelievably down bad and Nor was completely oblivious. I loved how they grew together and their banter in this book had me gigglin and kicking my feet ✧.*
"But when I walk into a room, and you're there, you are the only thing I can see. It's only you."
Thank you to @janboswellauthor and @lovenotespr for the ARC in exchange for an honest review ♡
i LOVED this. i’ve been eagerly waiting for this release since i read our secret moments and this exceeded my expectations. ugh i just love them so much and wes has literally been in love with nora his whole life and they’re so perfect together and i need more. wes is literally top tier. he’s good with kids too. when i read any scene with him and kids it was just too cute. my heart can only handle so much…
"You're always going to be different from everybody else, Nora. "Different isn't always a good thing." "It is to me."
it 😭 is 😭 to 😭 him 😭 it’s giving wes she-isn’t-you bennett aka my other fav wes.
i always knew i was secretly a friends/best friends to lovers girl even though i always say i’m an enemies to lovers girl. this book cemented that. 4.8 stars.
this book is so special to me, it hold such a place in my heart 🤍
when i read our secret moments i knew for sure that wesnora would be my favorite. their banter. their relationship. the way they trust each other. the way they act around each other. i was so sure that they will hit and be so different from the first book. and… it did.
i couldn’t tell you my favourite scene so far (the bar scene *cough*) bc they just were so perfect. it was very slow in the relationship at the beginning but it made sense, bc how could they just jump from fake dating into dating for real when you’ve never confessed to yourself it was real in the first place?!?! it didn’t feel rushed or too slow, it was the perfect pace to me (even if i was kind of dying to have them together ahahah)
wes will probably be my favorite character from the series, the sarcastic boy that is hiding his struggles, him trying to find what his passion is, just him trying to figure everything out. i was so proud of him to see him evolve and finding his own path. and he never put himself first, it was always others (and nora ehehhe) :)
nora, my theatre kid, my baby, im genuinely in awe of her and i wish i could be her in some way, her confidence was one of her best traits, and her knowing what she wants to do in her life (in comparison to wes) made me so happy. the parallels between them and their personality, their future was so well pictured bc they were so different but yet, they always had something that made them closer to each other than ever. their attraction for one another and their chemistry was undeniable. i just loved them so much, and their whole journey was so fun to read and so cute
this is my favourite book from jan so far, and it will be difficult for me to top it bc they’re so special to me 🤍 but mostly jan thank you, you’re so special to me, and i couldn’t be more grateful to have my name somewhere in those pages. i hope to continue to be the first person to read your words on a silly little doc 🩷
jan, thank you SO much for this opportunity, i’m so grateful to have received this ARC and have an early look into the story of nora and wes. stargirl and loverboy. sunshine and wessy. ARGH I NEED A WES RIGHT NOW.
i loved them both so so much, and i just want to give them both a fat hug. the determination and humanity in nora’s personality was so relatable, while the pressure of always having to be okay shown in wes’ character just hit so hard. the minuscule challenges they each faced in waves was so similar to ones you’d find in real life, and as a girl who loves drama, i ate this UP.
friends to lovers isn’t usually my favourite but i swear, it worked so well in this book. when i say my baby wes was boy obsessed i mean he was boy OBSESSED. he’s everything i want in a man and more, and i can’t decide if i want to be with him or BE him because let’s face it, nora bailey can do whatever she wants to me. nora bailey, you gorgeous silly little human.
also can we talk about the tropes in this book? fake dating? check. brothers best friend? check. theatre major x athlete? check. cat dad? check. sunshine x sunshine (95% of the time when she’s not planning murder in her head)? check. single bed? check. loverboy with the DIRTIEST mouth? CHECK.
This was all over the place and giving very much wattpad. There were spelling mistakes and straight up words missing in some sentences. The writing felt lazy at times and I couldn’t really get into the scene but it was entertaining. This is what I would classify as a shitty romance book to read when you’re bored. So many plot lines are brought up only to disappear into the backline but who cares about that when Wes and Nora flirt for another 15 pages instead? The last few chapters felt unnecessary, it honestly could've ended at like chapter 30 or something.
I was expecting more tension but it was alright, mid to say the most. I would not recommend this but I don't hate that I read it.
Couldn’t finish the book because of how boring it was… and don’t say “ya it’s a slowburn so don’t read it if you don’t like the genre” but I do like slowburn!!!!! This one was just terrible. The writing was not interesting and the book was too damn long like it could’ve ended so much sooner
started: 30th january ‘24 finished: 14th april ‘24 thank you janisha for having me on your dhu reading team, it means everything to me to be apart of this community!
after reading a few incredible arcs from janisha (the author), i knew this was going to be a hit instantly as soon as i met these characters in our secret moments. childhood friends to lovers? mutual pining? sunshine characters? SIGN ME UP!
this entire series is janisha’s best work. the detail, the depth, the character growth, the teasers for future books, everything is so well thought out and planned and so creatively written that it has me immediately wanting more and more.
nora. sunshine star girl. in my head nora is similar to gracie abrams and that is everything to me because i love them both so much.
wes. who was going to warn me of how much i would relate to wes? i cried SO many times over his pov because it’s as though janisha stole my thoughts and feelings and wrote them in detail in this book. it was so personal and so human, it felt like these characters were real people because of how well janisha creates them.
i will most likely do a reread before the book release so i can give every single one of my thoughts here because in my opinion i’m gogglebox reaction worthy!
if you haven’t started this book series, what are you doing? available on kindle, amazon, and janisha’s website linked in her instagram bio: @ janboswellauthor

Wes is the sweetest with the golden retriever energy and is head-over-heels in love with Nora. He is amazing with kids and has an adorable fat cat. Nora is passionate about what she wants, funny, kind, understanding and a drama queen. Her overthinking and anxiety was highly relatable.
Wes and Nora’s relationship was so so good. Childhood friends who start fake dating which gradually turns into something bigger and better. The slow burn was incredible. I kept waiting for the moment when they will finally give in to their feelings and stop pretending that it is all just a fake relationship. And when it finally happened, I melted!
They are perfect for each other and just make so much sense together. They were always there for each other and understood each other. I also loved the connection between their entire group of friends.
This was my first book by Janisha and is the second book in an interconnected standalone series, but I will be reading the first book. This book had me laughing, smiling and sighing, and I would highly recommend this book if you love childhood friends, fake dating, friends to lovers romance.
Thank you so much Janisha Boswell and Love Notes PR for this ARC copy!
i loved it so much! i literally flew through it and abandoned my school work🫣 this book literally changed my perspective of the friend’s to lovers trope! from now on if jan writes it i’m there and hooked!!
okay so it’s an friends to lovers book, but he’s also her brothers best friend (the fmc has a twin brother, you meet him in our secret moments)!!! they start of fake dating cause her boyfriend cheated on her. they also both have some personal issues and don’t want to get into a real relationship. if you want to find out how it ends you need to read the book AH! it’s so good and i loved every page of it🫶🏻!
oh and this is one of the quotes of the book: “Fake dating Nora should be a piece of cake. She might act like she’s hard work, but i watch her like she’s my favourite movie. I’ve been watching her for years.”
I had the opportunity to read it early as an arc reader and i’m so honoured that i got this chance! as i mentioned earlier i truly loved it so much!💗 this is my favourite book of janisha ever!!!!
similar thing as the last book where i was enjoying the two characters and the dynamic but then they just decide to get together and then they just bang for like the last 20% and ignore their responsibilities. idk i really did fw wes and nora and the friendship fake dating. and him being in love with her forever was slay. but it took me like 3 days to get through the end bc there was nothing really happening.
Being childhood best friends, Wes Mackenzie, a football enthusiast, has always had a thing for Nora Bailey. Nora, having just broken up with her boyfriend of five years, is in shambles. They collectively decide to fake date in order to make her ex envious and put his life in order. Nora comes to the realisation that they’re a power couple and it has been Wes all along. “Looking at Wes now, i want to punch myself for not looking before”. ★ if i had known i needed a childhood friends to lovers before, i’d have have picked up this book sooner. top that up with fake dating and stargirl x loverboy. ★ Jan didn’t disappoint with her characters as they were both lovable and relatable. Seeing Wes having an existential crisis after his parents divorce and Nora going through all the stages of a breakup felt personal. ★ Wes, the man that you are. Loverboy at heart and all. the pure definition of golden retriever boyfriend. flirting with nora since they were kids got him nowhere but he was respectful about it and WAITED for her to break up with her skunk boyfriend. they could never make me hate you, wes. ★ Wesnora changed my perspective of the friends to lovers trope. the slow burn had me in shambles. live love laugh wesnora. give me book 3 now please and thanks 😋 ★ thank you @lovenotes.pr and @janboswellauthor for the opportunity to read this arc copy. it has been an honour giving an honest review in turn for an advanced reader copy.
i’ve been waiting for nora and wes’ story for so long and it did not disappoint !!! their story was cute, relatable and unique but mostly powerful ⭐️
nora was such a relatable character her up and downs really show how realistic she is and wes… well he was perfect, in some parts of the book i found myself in him and i was like “my male version” he was so real and made me feel seen in many ways :,)
their dynamic was truly special and unique, honestly they had me giggling and kicking my feet, the bond they created since they were kids it was only intensified during the story and that was so precious, they are truly a power couple 😭
one of the things i liked the most was the way their story was developed was so good not so rushed and not so slow it was perfect, it gives time to connect with them and fall in love with them <3
Janisha Boswell's Our Secret Game is a friends to lovers romance that centers on the relationship between Wesley Mackenzie and Nora Bailey.
Throughout the novel, Wes's nickname for Nora, "Stargirl," was one of the cutest things ever. Because the tropes were all so fantastic, they also served to bring together the book.
A third act breakup was the only thing I felt was lacking. I thought it was necessary between them, but it might just be a personal matter. There was also a moment when I began to doubt the validity of Wes and Nora's love.
To be honest, this book turned out to be enjoyable and wholesome.
*Thank you to and to the author, Janisha Boswell, for providing with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*
This book is now the reason why I LOVE the FRIENDS TO LOVERS trope!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the way Nora had no idea Wes has been in love with her since they were kids and when she found out she literally couldn’t believe it but the man had been flirting with her for YEARSSS!!!
Wes is the definition of “MY MAN MY MAN MY MAN”!! Literally so far gone for Nora that he can’t even think straight 😅 and he loves it BTW!!
Thank you Janisha and Lovenotes PR for the Arc!!
