This book was SUCH a sweet 30 day experience for me. My husband is a non believer, but he has one of the kindest & most caring souls. It’s always been a struggle for me given that I grew up Catholic, with two catholic parents, wanting him to be the exact same as me. But you know what? This book made me appreciate the fact that we ARE different. & even though he does not believe per se (I think he does he just does not know the Lord yet), he always accepts & participates in things that relate to my faith. From the beginning, getting married in the church, to now, going to church & baptizing / teaching our kids the faith, he has always been accepting of it. & maybe one day he will proclaim the faith, but this book gave ME faith that though I do not know the lords timeline, he is working in him daily. ❤️
I really enjoyed this resource. I love praying scripture and writing out scripture prayers but during this busy season of my life, I have found it hard to do that. Amanda’s book gave me the opportunity to pray specifically for my husband in the midst of this busy season. I am grateful for the biblically solid and specific prayers she shares.
I went into Pray for Him expecting a guided prayer challenge for wives—something that would help center my heart, strengthen my intercession, and support my husband spiritually. What I got instead felt more like a series of short devotionals, many of which read like deeply personal journal entries.
The title strikes through “change him” in favor of “pray for him,” but ironically, many of the prayers sound like requests for exactly that: “God, make him less this and more that.” They’re highly specific and often felt like a list of issues to fix in him rather than invitations for me to reflect on my own heart. More than once I found myself thinking, “Wait…shouldn’t I be praying this about myself?”
There’s a quote on page 94 that seems to sum up the author’s intent: “You can’t force him or will him to want to do anything. That’s God’s job. Your job is to pray fervently, support wholeheartedly, and encourage continuously. And while you’re doing that, trust that God is working.” It’s a beautiful idea—but it doesn’t quite land that way throughout the book.
Some of the prayers were insightful and heartfelt. Others gave me pause—either because they didn’t apply to my husband at all, or because they felt like I had wandered too deep into the author’s own marriage. At times, I honestly felt like a spiritual peeping tom.
Overall, I appreciate the heart behind the book. It clearly comes from someone who has walked through real struggles and wants to help other women pray with purpose. But for me, it lacked the balance I was hoping for. I wanted a space to pray with my husband in mind—not just about him—and to examine my own heart just as much as his.
I definitely felt this devotional was more for me than my spouse. I learned so much! I was feeling like I was in a prayer slump and this definitely taught me so much about elevating my prayers and making them so much more. I love the focus of surrendering everything to God.
I see the best in my man when I am praying for him. I believe in us most when I am praying for him. This book helped me find all the words I was looking for but couldn’t come up with on my own. I will be reading it cover to cover again and again because the prayers are just that good. It has encouraged and reminded me to give grace and strengthened my faith which is hard for me when just a single thing does not go my way. I downloaded this book with the sole purpose of praying for my man unknowing of the tremendous personal growth the words would provide me. Each passage before the prayer seemed to be right on time and resonated so well with me. This book is quite literally a blessing.
A Game Changer. This works on everbody, extended family too, everbody. I used to pray for God to change this person. After this book, I prayed for this person's goals to happen and dreams to come true, whateverever they may be. Now I don't feel the samme tension. Get this, then get The Empowered Wife by Laura Doyle. God led me to this book. It's secular, but it has hands on techniques to self-reflect and change your husband by changing your self. These work on everyone too. Rom 2:1 Prov 24:29 Eccl 7:16,20-22 Eccle
I really enjoyed this devotional and prayer challenge. I read through it twice and got a new perspective the second time through. This is a very easy, approachable book to help connect with God and guide your prayers. Highly recommend for any wife who wants to see the true power of prayer in their marriage! Yes, you’re praying for your husband but you are also praying for yourself. This book will change your attitude just as much as you will see a change in your husband.
This was the best devotional I have ever completed. Each day is beautifully crafted with a short verse, devotional, prayer and reflection on a specific topic which develops the habit of focusing on prayer instead of forcing change myself. I have developed habits from this that I will surely carry for many years and plan to start my own prayer journal and work through the book again soon. I also felt very encouraged knowing my partner was praying through ‘Pray for Her’ at the same time.
One of my high school students was reading this book, which made me curious to check out this book. I could see why someone that is very Christian would like this. I see the benefit of making this book more gender neutral for praying for your spouse instead. There were times the book felt overly gendered like men do this and women do this which are not fun stereotypes.
Absolutely encouraging and inspirational. Keeps you motivated and focused. I saw little things move in my love’s life that only I know, God was moving in his life.
Was a beautiful study, and I loved the daily prayers. I do wish that the Bible verses were not abbreviated. I appreciated the personal stories mixed with relatability, and supported by scripture. This is a great book for anyone looking to support their husband through prayer.
The month of prayers for a husband lined out in this book are really beautiful, thoughtful, and aligned well with scripture. This book really encouraged me and taught me better ways to pray for, support, and love my husband well. It also created some great moments of self reflection and awareness.
love the verses the author chose to correlate to the messages! I love the template to help get a kick start when you’re not exactly sure where to even begin in your journey and your talk with Christ! such a sweet message!
This is such a wonderful study for anyone who is in a relationship or married. This will help you to pray over all aspects of your partner’s life as well as yours. Definitely recommend!
This book helps you prioritize and improve your Prayers for your spouse and your family. As you concentrate on building up your husband thru prayer your heart is changing and seeking God too
Amazing book for praying for myself and my husband
I love everything about this book it made me laugh and cry. I devoted myself to pray for my husband for the full thirty days. This book opened my faith deeper then ever.
Took me 4 months to get through this 30 day devotional. Not the books fault, just my own. (Pregnancy, personal life, etc). But overall I enjoyed it and it gave me a lot of food for thought. ❤️ I’d recommend to anyone struggling in their marriage.
Great collection of fervent prayers for a spouse. I noted 5 of 30 for future reference that resonated with me. However, the book didn’t hold my attention consistently enough over the span of 30 days in the way other devotionals have.
Wow I loved this journaling book. It changed me so much, and I see God working in the life of my loved one too. Very powerful and eye opening. Also very humbling.
I enjoy a book that helps guide specific prayers. This was a good book. I think we need to see a 365 day book in the future. Maybe I need to write one myself.
I loved this book and highly reccommend it for any woman in need of guidance in their marriage. God has really changed me as a wife and these prayers have changed my hubby as well.
