A vow to never be claimed. A spark she never expected. And three warriors who could break her—or help her heal.
Vienne Carine has always put duty first. Haunted by the brutal murder of her parents and determined to protect her injured sister, she clings to independence as fiercely as she clings to her land. But when a clash draws her into the courting rituals of a primal warrior clan, everything begins to change.
To uncover the truth about her parents’ killer, she must walk a dangerous path—one that winds through the hearts of three very different men: one dominant and protective, one kind-hearted and steady, and one sensitive enough to see the pain she hides.
The dominant one challenges her. The kind-hearted one steadies her. The sensitive one sees through her.
She never asked for love. But as desire tangles with vengeance, and trust grows where suspicion once lived, she must decide: can she open her heart without losing herself?
The Clans of Yassir series contains steamy standalone Why Choose fantasy romance novels that can be read in any order. This was an enjoyable read. I didn’t love Vienne as a fmc mostly because I felt like she was often mis-naming her feelings and her behavior. She was selfish and if she would have stood in that instead of thinking of herself in a better light I would have personally enjoyed her more. But I guess it can be chalked up to what would vengeance look like from a person raised as a pacifist. I definitely enjoyed the Clan though and as in most things I would have liked it much better with multiple POVs. As a debut book I think it was solid with room for improvement. But I’m always going to be on the bandwagon for a Bipoc author writing Black and POC why choose romance!

Vienne's parents were brutally murdered, her farm was burned, and her sister suffered severe injuries. Vienne swears to avenge her parents by accepting the Reaper and going to another Clan to find the murderer. There, she forms a strong connection to Clan Mori and the three clan members.
I absolutely liked the world-building and Clan dynamics especially since they were a matriarchal Clan. It's refreshing to read a culture where women are unconditionally respected once in a while. This is reflected within the three men of the harem who show respect and understanding. With them, Vienne has to solve the mystery of her murdered parents with the addition of missing brides.
I loved the naming in this book. It is evidence that the author is well-read. There is a blend of many names from different countries and books; American, French, Arabic.
However, several things felt short
The most obvious fault was the one-sided POV. I have said it and say it again. In Romance, whatever the genre, a one-sided POV does not work anymore, let alone when it is a why-choose! The men felt as props; only there to enhance Vienne's story.
The conflict itself felt lacking and many plotholes were glaring (the thriller-reader in me kicked in). There was no explanation on why exactly the villain was doing what he was doing.
When you find the side character more interesting than the Main lead, you know that the character is lacking. I was more intrigued with Marie and Adeleise's stories. Even Lilly's arc was more interesting than Vienne. In a magical fantasy, Vienne is lacking. The men and her sister had all the magical powers... and she....was pretty!!!
I think, for a standalone, an addition of 200 pages,
LORDDDD if you loved black panther and are a sucker for a RH then read this baby.
Honestly I was sucked in from the start the journey Vi goes on being orphaned and the protective older sister, trying to bare the weight of it all and change her reality for the better. I really resonated a lot with what she did and why! This story had me cheering sobbing and fully in love with her and her clan!
This is 5⭐️ must read. with female lead and disability rep… I am here for it 👏
"Even in death, our hearts and blades are yours. You will never be without us."
Vienne is one independent woman and doesn’t take orders from any man, especially her 3 fated , unless it's in the bedroom 😉
The males have different personalities, and I loved the relationship with Vienne with the 3 boys. Each had a different role to take care of her, but together, they were on fire! And those tails (hot, hot)
I loved the tribal aspect of this story with the clans, their traditions, and gods/goddesses and everything else in between.
I can't wait to see what else Anne writes, I am hooked on her writing style. I'm still thinking about this book weeks after reading it.
This debut fantasy why choose romance by Anne Grove is about a young woman named Vienne who seeks revenge after her parents are brutally murdered in front of her. Vienne finds her quest for revenge being put to the test when she runs into the warrior Clan Mori.
I enjoyed this book for the most part, the story was really interesting. I enjoyed the mystery element a lot of trying to figure out who killed Vienne's parents along with other mysteries that popped up along the way such as who was responsible for the missing brides. The political intrigue in this story was very interesting.
I also loved how Vienne got to know the guys individually. It made the story more realistic seeing her making an effort to know them separately and as a trio. I loved all of the guys. They were great and written really well. Varro was the leader and more dominant one who also was incredibly loyal to his Clan, Arim was the sweet cinnamon roll, who's true passion was being a healer and Lorcan was the physically and emotionally wounded one who's dealt with more rejection than one should have to deal with and believing himself to be unworthy. Ugh! I loved them all. Again, they were fleshed out amazingly.
Vienne however....she frustrated me a lot in the book. Vienne was a hypocrite who had the nerve to be in her feelings when the guys were keeping secrets even though she also had secrets she was keeping. Even when they revealed those secrets to her she STILL didn't open her mouth about what she was hiding. It wasn't til page 343 that she finally told the truth only for the guys to the surprise of no one not be upset. Vienne got in her own way a lot and she was selfish a lot. On one hand I understood why. Her parents were murdered, her sister ended up badly burned and she was left to man the family farm by herself. I get that a lot of her bad decisions were trauma and PTSD responses but it didn't make it less annoying if in being honest. On the authors ig page, she says Vienne would be our newest badass FMC and respectfully I disagree. I didn't find Vienne badass at all. She wasn't weak but she damn well was not badass. Perhaps if she made different decisions and was written differently she could've been. That or the author and I have very opposite views on what makes a character badass.
I didn't hate Vienne but a favorite FMC of mine she is not. The only things I will give her is she felt like a real person. Fictional she might be, everybody knows somebody like her or might even be her. The way she reacted to things, her stubbornness, her being a hypocrite, her selfishness, her woe is me attitude, her fear of trusting. Her grief, ptsd and survivor's guilt all felt realistic the way it was written. Even when she got on your nerves(which was a lot) her feelings were still human. Also her and the guys had great chemistry with each other and she was a good sister. That's all I got for her though 🤷🏾♀️
The one con this book had that I really didn't like is it being single pov. As an avid why choose romance reader, most of the poly books I've read have been multiple pov. Which it should be since it's a story about multiple people in a relationship. In my opinion, Anne Grove making the decision to have the book only be in Vienne's pov was a bad one. It got boring at times only reading her pov. We needed the guys thoughts as well. Especially when important things were happening. I don't know why she thought it was a good idea but it wasn't. Single povs don't work in poly books. You need everybody's thoughts for the story to feel whole. I hope going forward, if she writes more poly books she gives multiple povs. Hell, I hope we can get a version of this book with the guys pov. It's very much needed.
As a whole, this was an enjoyable debut. I think Anne did a good job. Especially on the story telling part. The harem were great and they all meshed with each other well. I especially loved that this was a black poly fantasy why choose romance. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of poly books where everybody's black and we definitely don't have a lot of romantasy books with black people. Everytime we get a new contribution to the genre it makes me happy. This is an author I'll be keeping my eye on for future releases.
This is a standalone romantasy about a young woman determined to save her family’s farm (and her little sister) while also discovering who murdered her parents. Tropes and themes include why choose (mfmm), found family, disability representation, primal MMCs (with tails), and magical bonds. There are multiple spicy scenes (including group) and other possibly triggering content so please check the content warnings.
The Lovely: I loved finding a new why choose romantasy as they’re not very common, at least in the romantasy space. I loved how the FMC interacted with the Clan and her focus on getting to know each man individually, and the Clan as a whole. The connections she formed were unique to each man, even when she was with them as a group. I also appreciate how the FMC (and the author by extension) treated one main character’s disability in a social context and on a personal level. This was really important to me and it felt realistic but “right.”
Also Lovely: This book had top-notch world building in terms of social structure, customs and current events (war, commerce). It was an immersive experience and I found myself wanting to know more about the world (and to spend more time in the world).
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy, and am leaving this review voluntarily. This was a wonderful debut novel from the author. I’m impressed that this is a standalone and didn’t feel shortened or under-developed. Given this was a why choose in the romantasy space I was super excited for this book and it did not disappoint. It had it all - an engaging story, well-developed characters and an intriguing world. I will definitely read future books from this author (especially if they’re why choose).
I was so excited for this debut and Anne did not disappoint! I was immediately captivated by the world building, Vienne and the Yassir warriors. Anne’s writing was easy to follow for a complex world and I was invested in Delph, Yassir, and the warrior clans from the start. The burn was extremely slow and it was perfect watching Vienne build her relationships with her clan. Highly recommend if you enjoy a standalone, why choose romantasy. And what’s better than one Yassir warrior? Three of the best warriors from Clan Mori you don’t have to choose from because they’re all yours!
I especially loved seeing women in roles of leadership and as warriors in this world. Vienne was a strong and resilient FMC who was willing to sacrifice herself and happiness to protect her sister and other women in Delph. She deserves the world and she got that in quiet Lorcan, protective Varro, and sweet Arim. I loved all three of the MMCs and how much they cared and protected each other as well as Vienne. And the spice was indeed spicing!! Although I’d also choose all, Arim was my favorite.
I loved that this was a standalone fantasy book and that we got all our answers and HEA in one book. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing a bit more of the world and other Clans in the future. Thank you so much Anne for providing an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

What to expect: 🗡️Why choose 🗡️Magical bonds 🗡️Primal MMCs 🗡️Found family 🗡️Standalone
I absolutely adored this read. It was very well written, super descriptive and I was able to clearly picture everything that was happening. This is what I loved about the book:
World Building The world and all of its intricacies was something I had never read before. Very unique, 6 stars for this alone.
Characters I really enjoyed Vienne as I found her to be super relatable. Was she perfect? No. But is anyone? Also, no. She had human elements and was developed very well. Each of Vienne's clan members had distinct personalities and balanced one another out. I really enjoyed seeing how they all interacted with one another and worked as a team.
In terms of side characters, I was just as invested in their stories as I was the MC's. Very well done.
Banter The banter was great and, at points, it had me laughing out loud.
Tropes Why Choose, Found Family, Murder Mystery, Primal Warriors, Magical Bonds, Standalone.
Overall, a stunning debut novel from Anne Grover! She has created a very unique world that draws you in, keeping you invested and hungry for more.
Highly recommend The cover drew me in, and then I was totally absorbed. With a Vengeance is a romantasy, with a unique culture, customs, and enchanting creatures. On her mission to have vengeance for her parents' murder, Vienne becomes the reluctant bride to three primal warriors. Be warned, this story made me cry. You may want to keep a box of tissues handy. The plot was well thought out with conflict and growth. I loved the world building and all of the characters. There's mystery and spice, and it wraps up neatly with a beautiful ending.
I absolutely loved this book! The world building was really well done and I understood everything. It was not overwhelming and I followed along easily.
The characters are all well developed and I loved all of them. Vienne is a strong woman who will get what she wants whatever the consequences. The men are great and Lorcans disabilities are written tastefully and don't feel forced.
Vienne is a 26 year old woman whose world came crushing down after witnessing her parents’ murder at the hands of an unknown warrior, leaving her to care for her sister and their farm. Will Vienne follow the leads of clues that have her intrigued or will she surrender to her suitors?
I’ll let you find that out for yourself 😉
Absolutely LOVED the story and Anne’s writing style. I can not wait to see what else Anne comes up with in the future ❤️
I really loved Vienne's story. She starts out consumed by her duties and responsibilities and slowly embraces the need for love in her life. This is a standalone, high fantasy romance, and it absolutely delivers. The Yassiri clan warriors are each perfect for her in their own way, and the plot was intriguing and engaging. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Very well written and compelling tale. A strong FMC that isn't annoyingly overconfident. Deadly and possessive men with heart. A unique world and society that is described and shaped at a pace with the story. It's got everything you could want and seriously steamy scenes too.
So I almost DNF'd like I've done with 5 other books this week, but I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. I liked the overall story, but the fmc was a little insufferable at times. I would have liked this more if it were dual POV, I think Lorcans' perspective would have added some angsty oomph to the situation. Overall, it was a good, solid, easy read.
That escalated quickly!! I decided that since this was a new author for me, I would only read a chapter or two to see if I could get into the story and writing style.....and then I couldn't put it down. LOVE this story, character and world!! So of course I started stalking er I mean researching the author to see what else I could read. I am geeked about the next book in this series.
A very intense read. Anne has put together a fascinating world with amazing characters. Your heart will bleed for Vienne and all she goes through. You will fall in love with the three men that hunger for Vienne. There are many twists in the plot that will throw you for a loop. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This why choose set in a fictional land with magic and primal forms was engaging and satisfying to read. The primal imagery and world building was fresh, and the characters fiercely devoted to each other. If you enjoy romantasy, paranormal romance and why choose books, you’ll love this.
The beginning was just too slow and boring for me; I set this down and it's been months and I'm still interested in picking it back up again. I might be willing to try again at some point but for now its a DNF.
This would have been a 5 star read for me if not for the same annoying ending to every single chapter where Vienne almost practices healthy communication but ultimately decides not to. Every. Single. Chapter.
This was so well written and full of love. I’m not an instant gratification person (all the time 👀). I loved watching the characters come together and grow their relationships. For a first novel, the author knocked this out of the park!!
I loved this book! It was so sweet. Seeing Vienne grow and change because of her men was heartwarming, and the plot wrapped up super well. The second half was my favorite!
I enjoyed the plot for this book however I felt like certain words and phrases were a bit repetitive. Also I’m not hugest fan of the fmc. I found her to be selfish and hypocritical
I received an advanced copy, and this is my honest review.
I went into this blind and was pleasantly surprised. High fantasy, slow burn with lower spice, then I usually read, but a very interesting plot line. The beginning is very plot heavy with a lot of world building, but it all pulls together and joins all the dots in the end. It's nice to get a high fantasy that is concluded in one book! It's not something I come across often and found it very satisfying. Yay for no cliffhangers!
