Conry

Rate this book
When Willow and her mother relocate from the arid landscapes of New Mexico to the dense forests of Conry, New York, they leave behind more than just their home—they step into a world teeming with secrets and supernatural beings. Conry isn't your typical small town; its population is dominated by werewolves, each with their own hidden stories and complex lives.

Willow's mother is an ordinary human, but her late father carried the werewolf gene, a legacy he passed down to her. Now, living under the same roof as her werewolf uncle, Willow grapples with the fear and uncertainty of her own dormant wolf gene while doing her best to ward off those who wish to activate it for her. As she navigates her new life, she forms a close bond with a local boy who is destined to embrace his own werewolf transformation.

Just when Willow begins to adapt to the extraordinary challenges of living among werewolves and resisting her own inner beast, a new terror descends upon Conry—a wendigo, an ancient and malevolent creature with a hunger for human flesh.

Willow's journey is one of self-discovery, friendship, and survival in a world where the line between humanity and monstrosity is dangerously thin. Can she keep her inner wolf at bay, or will she have to embrace her true nature to protect those she loves?

From Reader's Favorite 5-star ...Conry is packed with chills, thrills, and mystery. Fans of stories featuring werewolves, romance, and deep lore will immensely enjoy this absorbing novel. From the very first page onward, the plot hooks you in and keeps you engaged with a potent mix of drama and fantastical action until the last page. Eileen Sheehan is a master at crafting supernatural stories with a unique flavor, and this one is no different. Willow's determination not to lose herself to her inner beast makes her easy to like and root for. The dynamic between Willow, Colin, and Lucas is at the center of the narrative and will have supernatural romance lovers fully invested in the story. The ending is action-packed, featuring some thrilling sequences that make you truly feel the stakes. Recommended to fans of YA supernatural fiction!

From Reader's Favorite 5-star ... The storyline in Conry by Eileen Sheehan was captivating and intricate. It was an exhilarating journey filled with creatures, danger, and mystery. The story was fast-paced and was packed full of action. From the very beginning, I was engrossed and could not stop turning the pages. With all the unexpected twists and turns, I was always uncertain about what would happen next. The events were vividly described, making it easy to imagine what was unfolding. The characters felt authentic and relatable, even the creatures. The personalities of the creatures were akin to humans, and, for some, causing harm to others was of little concern. The writing was masterfully done and kept my interest the entire time. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, and it surpassed all my expectations .

Eileen Sheehan is an Award-Winning author of steamy romance thrillers for the mature adult. A professional psychic and holistic practitioner for over 30 years, the majority of her 60+ novels feature the paranormal, but some are novels about people in love and a very few are self-help. As the years progressed, so has her writing style. Although she still includes romance and strives for a happily ever after ending, her stories tend to have more mystery, thrills, and a touch of horror in them.
Eileen makes it a point to write a novel length that will allow the busy readers to be able to enjoy the read in one or two evenings.

Thank you to Goodreads for the free copy of this book, but I just couldn't do it. So many things that show the author didn't do research and so many inconsistencies that just made no sense.
- Cosmetology licenses don't transfer to NY. I know this from working in salons in NYS. It's a tedious process and typically requires going back to school. The mom couldn't have legally gotten a job as a hairstylist in any NYS salon with a New Mexico license
- I live in upstate NY just a little south of the Adirondack Mountains and have been to that area many times. September in the Adirondacks is NOT cold and frosty. It's still in the 70s or 80's. I mean, for sure cooler at night, but no where near frosty or cold.
- Who the fuck is Tammy? We've never heard of her and then she's just thrown in as someone the main character has become friends with.
- The main character's name... Her name is repeatedly established as I... and then suddenly it's Willow with no explanation??
-In the same paragraph "I couldn't break my promise to my uncle" ... "I decided to break my word to my uncle " Sure teenagers are wishy-washy but I found that ridiculous. It was like 2 sentences apart.
- Wolves in the Adirondacks were eliminated from the area in the 1800s due to hunting and loss of habitat. No one who lived in the area would just willingly believe wolves lived in the woods. I get that we immediately find out they're almost all werewolves. But it doesn't work as a cover story that there are already wolves in the woods.
- The guy's name was Conall and then suddenly it was Colin with no explanation

I am so sorry, I hate to rag on a book this way. But it was straight-up unreadable. Would give less than 1 star if possible.

I'm still reading...but I'm confused. In the first part of the book, she says her name is I. But then it's Willow. The mysterious boy is first called Conall, and now it's Colin. Typos and grammatical errors. Not holding out a lot of hope here...

Update: Okay, I just finished it. Wow, that was just.... not good writing. At all. I think AI could have done a better job. I didn't mind the concept for the characters and plot (obviously werewolves/supernaturals have been done to oblivion). But there was just so little depth to anything. No richness. The writing felt like a high schooler trying to use big words to sound fancy.
Use some spellcheck. Have someone do some proofreading. One of the characters names was misspelled at one point. Come on. Don't be formulaic with every chapter ending. It was so forced.
I feel bad being so harsh, but this just was not good writing at all.
I won this as a Giveaway, but I'll be deleting it from my Kindle.

Who are Paula and Willow? Where is Rambler? Who is Rory, and why has Paula reached out to him? Who are Sam, Tammy, Jamie, and Lily? What warnings does Willow get from Colin and Rory? What happens when Willow goes hiking with Sam and the others? Oh my, so many things that were happening in this story kept me from putting it down for long, especially fighting Covid-19. I could not stop reading this first book in this genre. Enjoy the story.

I’d give it 1.5 but I rounded up since I got the book for free. Cute story but so many holes, confusing name switches and the occasional sentence that didn’t make sense.
