Friday Apocalypse

Rate this book
Friday wasn't just the end of the week; it was the end of the world. Now all the cities of the world have been transformed, monsters and menaces are the norm, and Ash Wilkerson has to detangle his feelings about his complicated ( failing) relationship with a girl he doesn’t love. Add to this a massive game system involving cards and his desire to rescue the wizard who saved his life, and the apocalypse is a mess.

A pleasurable mess, though, because thanks to that wizard, Ash now has a card that gives him xps and bonus rewards for initiating relationships and having sex. Will it be enough to help him survive the new reality on earth? Will it be enough to help him deal with his bitchy girlfriend, who’s now an orc? And most importantly, will it be enough to help rescue this wizard from certain doom?

Ash Wilkerson is just trying to get through life. He has a dead end job and a relationship with Ashley (yes, they are both named that) that is rocky at best. Then, suddenly, some strange magical event happens, transforming the world. Ash finds himself in a world that is very similar to one of his favorite video games, and has to figure out how to live his life in this strange new place, sort things out with Ashley, and go rescue his best friend, his wife, and their kid.

Along the way, Ash makes a bitter enemy (which he entirely deserved) and starts, more or less accidentally at first, building a harem of women who offer different skills to the growing adventuring group. There's action, magic, and lots of sex along the way.

It's a fun concept with a few clever ideas. I'm not rating it higher because it really needed another pass at the editor level. There are typos (those happen, I get it), sentences that stop in mid-phrase, and some weird errors. If you're trying to be cute and name two of your major characters the same thing, you need to be damn sure you never mix up the names, and that happens. I think one of the most memorable weirdnesses was a word rendered as "stRanger." How do you typo in mid-word and no one catches it?

I may read book two. As I said, the writing wasn't bad, there were just some technical glitches along the way.

The relationship's and fmc’s are one dimensional. The MC is a douche that just wants to sleep with different women and finds themselves in conditions conducive to that. Not normally a fan of the literal video game/VR stories, especially with the threat of death removed, AND the system/charisma stat seems a bit to mind controlley for me. Twice the author seems to have missed writing out sections. We would suddenly jump in time from on paragraph to the next with people moving without showing it. The MC would just know other characters names without being introduced, very jarring. There is the odd spelling mistake.

There is a lot of stuff happening, so as long as the above doesn’t sound like nonstarters, there is a lot of story here to read. I did initially like the complexly of the system at first, but by the end it’s harder to suspend disbelief on the rules. Even the finding new cards part of the litrpg mechanic i liked the most become less compelling. First foray into card genre, going to try and not let this color my expectation of others

Gave the second one a go to see if anything improves...dropped after 13 chapters. Literal mind control and there is no humor.

This book is good but a lot....

On the one hand, I love the story, and characters, I prefer more lovey dovey relationships, and this book is basically all friends with benefits, but it's a refreshing take and works with the characters. Besides that, the main thing I want to say is that this book is A LOT.. there's so much going on it can get very confusing, and changing the system towards the end made it worse. And it feels like there's just to much going on with all the cards and stats. I'm not a stranger to litRPGs, but having a way different system than normal books and having it brought up constantly is hard haha

A truly new idea

Haven’t ready anything like it. Maybe that’s just me. Needs another proofing, but it’s totally readable. The author does likeably unlikeable character way better than we probably deserve. There’s a couple of pretty dumb moments, but these is actually some decent humor. Not trying to be funny, but actually funny. Read the first 5 chapters. You’ll know if it’s for you.

real lucky….

Usually when authors use board game mechanics to make an rpg world we usually don’t expect to get multiple genre type for different regions of the world. It became abit to rember everything has the story progressed I even fur got skills/cards at times every happens right after the last thing make the story way to fast for average readers the only breaks for readers where BDSM relationship-NSFW moments that’ll make you blush has it gets kinky real fast even there.

Really pretty good.

Sure it's another harem story but the storyline is different enough to make it interesting. I really want to continue to the next one. I finished the book and found myself smiling.

A good harem first book

We shall see if it stays as good but I enjoyed this first one. Ash is a good substitute for the male readers and female ones have some good choices among the various ladies in this universe.

Wonderful story line

Great story. Kept me interested until the end. Can't wait to read the others in the series.
Keep up the good work.

The main character was majorly annoying! They’re definitely other things. I didn’t like about it, but that was the big thing for me.
