Bitten by a rogue in the Louisiana bayou, I only want one thing — freedom from the beast under my skin. The talisman that could break my curse lies in Alpha Anthony Holder’s penthouse.

I tried to steal it.
He caught me.

Now the most dangerous man I’ve ever met offers me protection, a place in his pride… and a heat I can’t resist. His touch burns. His voice commands. His body feels like fate itself.

But the rogue who cursed me is still killing, and every secret in the bayou could tear us apart.

I came for freedom.
I found an Alpha I can’t walk away from.

If you love sexy, feline shifters, action-packed battles between good and evil, and Alpha vibes that sizzle on the page, you’ll love this trilogy. Read the now completed Urban Jungle Shifters trilogyincluding Night Huntress, Night Runner, and Night Predator. Enjoy!

The book started out a little clunky with a couple obvious editing errors. I thought it might iron itself out, but nope ... It's gotten worse.

The dialogue is just cringe. It's basically monologuing through conversation. For instance, the MFC does something and then says to someone something like "it's probably a trauma response I'm having from being raised in the foster system with people being more concerned with money than raising me" . It's just not how normal people would talk.
There are other continuity errors that make the book feel like I'm reading a book and not experiencing a story.
This book needs more real connection, more real dialogue and perhaps some deeper character development.
There's more I could say, but I'll be done. This unfortunately isn't a book I'll be recommending.

The good
+ Maury's strength
+ Laura. She's a good friend to have
+ Anthony's clumsy attempts to court Maury
+ Anthony confirming Maury's consent to sexual intimacy
+ Kobie the cat shifter who's allergic to cats
+ Anthony choosing Maury and nobody else

The neutral
o The worldbuilding is a bit confusing. I hope it'll become clearer in the sequel

The bad
- They didn't use protection for penetrative sex. This is obviously irresponsible, but even more so when considering Maury's past and the fact that she was an accident herself
- Anthony came on really strong and intimidating often, which was the opposite of what Maury needed. He also never apologized for triggering a panic attack based on past trauma
- What was Anthony's job anyway? He didn't really work or manage anything. I also don't understand why he is the pack's alpha in the first place. Was he born into this?

This book was alright. I had an easy enough time reading it, even though I was confused at times. I hope the sequel will make things a bit more clear. I'll try the next book for sure, because I want to see Anthony's devotion to Maury develop more.

I wanted to love a book with cat shifters. There just aren't enough, and big cats in the wild have a lot of interesting traits, mating rituals, etc which could be brought to light in a shifter world.

But, this wasn't it. The story felll flat for me. There is a rogue in the bayou who is turning people without their consent. The alpha of the pride has been looking into this situation, when suddenly, a woman comes traipsing out of the bayou to steal a relic that can turn her human again. I think the premise is decent, I just need... more.

I did email the author about multiple editing errors also.

I enjoyed quite a lot about this book. The development of the world building was fantastic. Sympathetic and likable MFC. There’s quite a lot of action. Interesting ongoing mystery of a rogue biting and trying to create new shifters. Lots of friendly and supportive secondary characters. But while trying to retrieve an item from the alpha she in returns finds a new life and a pack that accepts her.

Yikes the beginning of this book is repetitive! The mmc kept repeating the same thoughts surrounding the fmc over several chapters. In fact on my kindle page 52 & page 83 have the exact same sentence written.

Certain things didn't add up or contradicted themselves. In one chapter mmc found out fmc had not consented to the bite of a shifter, then in the next chapter the mmc is wondering and musing that he had a hunch that the fmc did not willingly accept a bite.

The fmc somehow knows the doormans name even though they weren't introduced? Boom. Fmc gets introduced to the doorman 10 pages later!

Spelling and continuity errors all over the place. The world building is confusing and unclear.

A really fast read. It felt like everything moved almost too fast. But I liked it well enough and plan on continuing the series.

A rogue shiftwe has been biting the people of Port Orleans without their concent. More importantly, for many of the victims, that bite is fatal and bodies have been turning up regularly for the Alpha to deal with. When one of those bite victims turns up at the gallery owned by the Alpha, looking for a talisman that might be able to change her back to a human, everything changes in both their lives.
Night Huntress is the first story in a new series . It's action packed and full of twists and turns I didn't see coming and Anthony and Maury have a relationship that's alternately snarky, sweet and steamy hot ... oh, and even though they probably don't exist any more, there's a strong possibility they might be fated mates.
Night Huntress uncovers only the tip of the iceberg, covering Maury's introduction to Anthony and his pack, a bit of her training as a pack member and a couple of key reveals, but if you don't mind knowing you'll have to come back to get the rest of the story in future books, it's a pretty good read.

Great new series!

I really enjoyed this new shifter romance. Maury was bitten 2 years ago against her will and now is a cheetah shifter. She wants to be normal again and heard that the old, fat alpha in New Port Orleans had a mythical stone that would change her back. So she decides to steal it. Unfortunately, she was caught by the alpha, who was NOT an old, fat guy, lol.
Anthony, the alpha, was by far the hottest guy she's ever met and a jaguar shifter.

Instead of handing her over to the police, he decides ty have her join the pride. Maury decides to learn all she can about being a shifter and explore the Spark she has with Anthony. Anthony also feels connected to Maury, but he also wants to figure out who the rogue is that keeps biting and killing people in the bayou. Someone keeps trying to kill Maury, and it all comes to a head when the guy who bit her attacks her and Anthony.

Great, great story, and I'm excited to find out what happens next!

very good shifter book - not standalone

I enjoyed a lot about this book. Great world building. Sympathetic and likable MFC. Lots of action. Interesting ongoing mystery of a rogue biting and trying to create new shifters. Lots of friendly and supportive secondary characters. Strong MMC and alpha. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a standalone but I have KU so it’s not a big deal for me to continue the trilogy. I liked it well enough to continue (plenty of times I don’t bother so that tells you something). The only thing I don’t care for is the age gap. Maury is 19. I wish she had been at least 21 or the alpha had been younger. I know she’s legally an adult, but the Alpha is 100 and it’s not clear what age he appears to others. Anyway, the age gap here gives me the ick feeling. An older man with a teenager? Ick. I know some readers don’t mind a big age gap and I don’t mind a lesser one (my own hubby is 10 yrs older) but I’ve never been into the “old enough to be your father” type of gap.

Maury was brought up in the foster care system. Her mother died at childbirth and she had to idea who her father was. She had mostly bad foster homes and when she was seventeen she ran away. She lived in the bayou for two years during what she had to do to keep herself alive and shelter. One night she was bitten by a cat shifter and when she woke up she was a big cheetah. The one who bit her kept telling her about a person who could reverse the bite and where it was located. She broke into Alpha Anthony's apartment to retrieve the item, but gets caught. Laura, one of his enforcers, makes a deal with her. They will train her and teach her about the cat inside of her and then she could decide if she was to leave or not. Her and Anthony start to develop a relationship and the story is about them and the rogue who is after Maury. Just be warned this ending is a cliff hanger, but good.

I almost DNFd it but I thought I’d push through and give it a try. It was definitely not worth it. The story felt rushed but somehow slow at the same time. When I started the book I thought I’d accidentally picked up book 2 instead. It was that muddled and confusing. Like I walked into the middle of the conversation. The story felt clunky and I was so bored. Then there’s Maury, the silly inexperienced virgin. She’s 19 and boy does she act younger. For a girl who’s been on her own and thrown around foster care she sure seems sheltered. The fact that she’s the mate to a 100 year old alpha was disturbing. Mostly because of how she acted. I seriously could have mistaken her for a 15 year old. I didn’t like her. The pacing was also way off. Sometimes moving lightning fast and others creeping along wishing I had DNFd long ago.

more like 3.5

I’m not sure if I will continue the series. What got me the most was the constant repeating of things. Repeat of events as conversation and repeat of thoughts, to the point of annoyance because it’s like yes, I get it. Take out all the repetition and you would cut the story by nearly half. Another thing… the constant down talking Maury keeps doing. We get it. She was homeless in the bayou. She didn’t have a good childhood. Lived off the land at 18 for two years… never questioned morals to survive and I get it but she is so offhandedly and simultaneously so blasé about it… I’m not sure if there will be any real character development from her. Which is what makes me hesitant to continue.

I liked this start of a series with cat shifters. I men, I'm already half sold right there... But except for the wonderful big felines, the story was interesting to read with all those murders, and kept you guessing. I'm looking forward the second book.
I could have use a smoother relationship between the two main characters, with a less pushy alpha male. It sometimes didn't feel healthy, but I was satisfied towards the end of the book where the relationship progressed. I'll be keeping an eye on that on the next book.

outstanding

I enjoyed this story. I fell into the characters and was shocked when the book ended. Did not like that it ended in a cliff-hanger. Fortunately book 2 has been published. First time I read anything from this author and it won’t be the last time. Unless all her books end in cliffhangers. I don’t like books that end just to get the reader to get the next book. If a book is good…entertaining.. it is a given that the reader will get the next book without any gimmicks like cliffhangers. I do recommend the story. I thoroughly enjoyed everything but the way it ended.

I like the back and forth in POV. I like that we are learning about the Shifter world along with one of the main characters. There are many mysteries to solve. What does it mean to be a Shifter? Who is Muary's father? Who is killing people trying to make more Shifters? The characters are realistic and likeable. This is a promising new series.

Maury is an interesting character. She was turned without her consent and really had it rough. I don’t blame her for not wanting to be a shifter at first. I loved Anthony from the very beginning. Their relationship was super cute. I was very curious to see who the rogue shifter was. I had some guesses and I was wayyyy wrong.

This is a great start to this urban fantasy / paranormal romance. It’s exciting, it’s entertaining and it’s full of murder, mystery and suspense and has characters who are strong, reliable and likeable. Action packed and full of adventure, twists and turns as Maury and Anthony try to uncover what is going on. There’s snark, there’s sass and there’s more than a little steam as the hunt for the rogue shifter continues. So looking forward to the next book.

💕💓💕 Anthony and Maury 💕💓💕 SK Prince wrote a different paranormal world! A very good paranormal story! Maury grew up as a orphan, Anthony is the alpha of the pride! They meet and something is different! Great story with a happily now with more to come. It doesn't really have a cliffhanger, just leads to other books! Good book!.

Trouble Connecting

I was unsure how to rate this one because I think I may have liked this more if I had read it at a different time. For some reason, I couldn't connect with the characters which is typically a must for me to enjoy a book. I definitely think others would enjoy this one though so I encourage giving it a try if the blurb intrigues you.

Quite a few spelling errors that had you re-reading the paragraph to try to figure out exactly what the author was trying to say. Need your proof reader to re-read the book to fix. Other than that the book was entertaining and fast paced. Wonderful characters. Can't wait for the next book.

This one hits the ground running. It instantly had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. I found Maury's tendency to bable when nervous very amusing. It does end in a cliffhanger so be prepared to want to continue on with the next book right away.

Maury gets bitten by a rogue shifter and she survives not like the other people whose bodies have been found badly mauled, Maury finds out about a talisman to turn her back to human so she goes to steal it from an alpha but what she finds isn’t what she expects. I enjoyed this story and I recommend this book.

DNF 14%. I have nothing good to say about this book. The beginning of a book should not be this muddled. Every on page character was unlikable and there are a fair amount of spelling and grammar errors. Based on other reviews this does not get better as the book goes and it ends in a cliff hanger so I'm done.

Super repetitive and clunky throughout the book. Characters and actions don't always make much sense. Maury is 19 but they're happy to bring her to bars and the 100 year old alpha is happy to have unprotected sex with her shortly after meeting even before talking about them being mates since he isn't sure himself. Definitely not continuing the series
