Ako hovoriť s deťmi o všetkom

Rate this book

Sex
Priateľstvo
Rozvod
Peniaze
A ďalšie!
Kniha Ako hovoriť s deťmi o všetkom vychádza z odporúčaní množstva odborníkov, z dlhoročnej práce doktorky Robyn s deťmi a tínedžermi i z jej osobných skúseností matky.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Just from the title alone, this sounded like a book I needed in my life. With two young kids I could sure use some advice with all the tough topics that have started coming up in our daily conversation.

There were lots of good topics covered, especially ones I hadn’t considered like allowance, money, and big feelings. These concepts were organized by chapter.

For myself, it would have been ideal if I could find the relevant parts to the age of my kids. I would have preferred a book broken down by age rather than topic, or have the topics broken into age groups more clearly.

There is overall some good advice, for both new and experienced parents

As a coach/teacher/instructor/mentor for the past 30 + years 🏆 (and business owner at Xtreme Gymnastics LLC for almost 25 years) continuing education and learning how I can continue to help kiddos and pour into them ❤️ is always at the forefront. Dr Robyn Silverman, an amazing child and teen development expert 📚, who also happens to be my friend, has simplified everything you could ever need to know about parenting or working with kids 👨‍👧‍👦. Hard conversations and difficult decisions become so much easier. Check out the pics of a couple of my fave pages so far—super simple scripts and tips to help parents, coaches, educators and ANYONE who works with children become the BEST we can be for kids 🤸‍♀️. If you haven’t grabbed your copy yet, order it on Amazon NOW. And RUN. It’s abso-freaking-lutely amazing. You’ll be a better parent, teacher, coach, mentor for reading this book. Thank you Dr R for investing so much of your time to better all of us who work with kids so we can help them become the absolute best versions of themselves! ❤️

Timely. Practical. Highly recommended. In today’s Internet-soaked culture, it has become not only important but imperative to be our children’s first source of information. In How to Talk to Kids About Anything, Dr. Robyn shows us how. This is one of those rare parenting books that should be on every nightstand. Dr. Robyn has provided every parent with the answers to how to have those tough and crucial conversations with their children.

Having specific language to use when certain topics arise is so helpful. I appreciate Dr. Silverman's support with the in the moment scripts that are often hard to locate when tricky conversations come up.

A good book full of tips, info, and sample conversation starters on lots of topics. Chapters cover talking about Anger, Sadness, & Other Big Feelings; Self-Esteem; Sex; Death; Diversity & Inclusion; Divorce & Nontraditional Family Structures; Mistakes & Failure; Friendship; and Money.
I appreciated the sample conversations and things to say/not say. My son is 8, and I found most of the advice to be potentially relevant to his age. I liked how the author consulted other experts relevant to each chapter, but I did notice that a lot of the quotes were from her own podcast, so if someone is a regular listener of that (which I am not), the advice might be very repetitive.
Overall, I thought it was helpful and it did give me ideas of conversations to have.

Will refer to this book over and over again whenever those tough questions pop up. This book teaches how to have honest conversations about many topics that will come up over the years. Thoughtful and well researched answers throughout. A wonderful addition in the home for parents and grandparents as well.

This research based treasure of a book is not only a a gem for parents, but the simply phenomenal advice for medical professionals, mental health therapists in the trenches, teachers, grandparents, educational specialists, and really ANYBODY who has children in their midst in this rapidly changing modern world. Jam-packed with exemplary, kind, human, respectful, and age appropriate straight talk and beautifully worded advice for talking to children of any age about even the stickiest of situations and awkward topics. As a child psychiatrist, I like to think that I had a decent gist of the best way to address the topics in this book when I raised my own (now grown) kids. I humbly offer that things might have been conveyed and gone a LOT smoother had I read many parts of HOW TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT ANYTHING back then... (for example, even the masterpiece of how Dr. Robyn conquers the topic in Chapter 3!) Several copies of this book are displayed in my office, this book is without question a MUST read for anyone with children in their lives. Bravo Dr. Robyn Silverman! The world needed this book!

Tipy, scenáre a príbehy.
• „Pokazila som to.

„Posledných tridsať rokov som čítala, písala, prednášala a rozprávala o deťoch.

Thank you, NetGalley, for a digital copy of this book! In return, I’ll grace you with this review.

I liked this book. As another reviewer said, it would be nice to be grouped by age so it is easier just to zoom on over to the section you wanted. I also think that this book is great for people that didn’t know what being a parent would be like, didn’t spend significant time with kids before becoming a parent, or really truly don’t know how to talk to children. The scripts were helpful, the stories were charming and real, and Silverman writes with a confidence and voice that is so refreshing to hear from a fellow parent.

I highly recommend this one as a gift or one to buy “just in case” because face it: we all have those “just in case” conversations coming.

ONE THING: the kindle galley was so hard to read. The words were everywhere, chapters misaligned and it took a lot of joy out of reading this book. Content is good, though, and the hard copy will be great!

How to Talk to Kids About Anything, provides a "how to" guide to prepare us for those conversations. I read this book cover to cover. I have so many takeaways from this informative book. I love the chapters! It's easy to find the area of needed help. It reminds me of the famous Dr. Spock book, Baby & Child Care. I used that book until the pages were worn.

This book gives physiological reasons why kids behave as they do. Knowing the function of the problem behavior is the key to changing it. I love the Feelings Wheel, the Mad Box, and the sections like Don't Say This, Say This Instead. My favorite chapter was Chapter 2, about Self-esteem and Body Image. I loved the Good Job Notes, Replace the Label, and Don't Do This, Do That! We're all human and make mistakes, but this book will help parents make them less often.

As a parent and an educator, this book has already proven to be an invaluable resource. It’s easy-to-read format, with pages filled with helpful science-driven charts, tables, quick tips, and more, makes reading this book a sheer delight! Read with a highlighter in your hand, because you’ll want to come back again…and again. I love the, “Say This, Not That” sections. No more guessing - Dr. Robyn literally gives me the words to say in difficult conversations. She’s managed to do all this while keeping the tone of her book light, engaging, and non-threatening. This book will not only educate the adult reader, but will impact the children in his/her lives. I am so grateful to have found, “How to Talk to Kids About Anything” by Dr. Robyn Silverman.

From an educator's perspective, this book is handy to cover the personal topics, such as talking to kids regarding divorce, the importance of diversity, and friendship struggles. There are many times when a student has come to me with a comment, problem, or question, and I have had to fly by the seat of my pants to find an appropriate response. There are a few chapters that will be helpful to parents that I feel were a bit redundant to those who have worked with kids such as the talking about money chapter, or the talking about emotions chapter; but I would recommend to both parents and educators to have to turn to when those tough conversations are nearing!

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a copy for review!

You know how so many parenting books or articles tell you what you "should" be doing, but don't tell you how to do it? I hate that! "Having a open conversation!" I want to know what does that open conversation look like? How do I start it? Silverman answers that question and gives many more tips and ideas across the full gamut of issues you and your kids are already talking about or, yeah, I'll use the "s" word, should be talking about. This book is a must-reach resource for parents to keep on hand. And, bonus for busy parents, it is broken up into bullets and concise chapters that make it easy to skim and dip in and out of depending on what topic you are looking for support around. Highly recommend!

I was fortunate to get to read an early copy of this incredible book. I said what I meant, and I meant what I said!

"It's hard to overstate how good this book is. If you've found yourself stuck or stammering in responding in the moment to those oh-so-important questions children seem to lob at you when your defenses are down… This. Is. The. Book. Imagine if Jiminy Cricket, Mr. Rogers, and ChatGPT got together to craft the truest words for the trickiest situations, all in one book. Yeah, How to Talk is that and more."

How to Talk to Kids About Anything is a book you need to read with a highlighter and pen. This isn't a book you'll read once and then file away on your shelf to get dusty. This is a parenting book you'll pull out over and over again as new and challenging moments in parenting arise. This book provided me with "aha" moments for both myself, as well as for my kids. Guiding open, honest, and educational communication with our kids now will hopefully help guide them in healthy communication going forward in life. Thank you for equipping parents to support and guide our kids as they learn and grow!

My 7 year old son is realizing that our dog, Hank, is getting up there in age. They are very close and he doesn't know the world without Hank by his side. He often talks about not wanting him to ever die, so I dove right into my preorder and jumped to the Death of a Pet section. Dr. Robyn gives great advice and I appreciate the balance between real-world, honest discussions and maintaining their innocence.

The index in the back is brilliant. It's like a Google keyword search, except you only get reputable results that are straight to the point.

I was sent an advance copy by the publisher and thoroughly enjoyed it! Robyns' book is a treasure trove of advice, encouragement and comforting phrases that helps parents know what to say when their kids need them the most. Dr. Robyn’s suggestions reflect her compassion, firsthand experiences, and mastery of the child psychology/development research to produce a handbook that will help guide parents and make the most difficult conversations easier to have.

This book does indeed help you talk to your kid about anything. I read a lot of parenting books. But this one really delivers. This book is easy to follow and offers tons of support to help parents talk to their child about anything. I will be sharing this with many parents I know who sit in the bleachers talking to me about how they just dont know how to talk about tough stuff with their kid. This is worth the read!
