Blogger Tanika Kohli’s book, The Full Circle is a masterpiece that de-scribes various circles of human emotions of the relationships as well as the journey of self-realization. The story of Kohli is therefore the articulation of passion, hope, despair and even revelation all interwoven into an account of one man’s convictions. The protagonists’ development is excellent, and the plot makes you think and transport you to another world. Some of the events may be easily predictable, but the meaning of the story related to a search for individual development and relationships is worth the ride. The strength of Kohli’s writing can be identified in its capacity to make people hear, understand, and feel emotions such as comfort and reminiscence.

Tanika Kohli's “The Full Circle” is a poignant exploration of the intertwining of personal history with the broader, often tumultuous, currents of societal change. The novel centers on Amarjit Singh Bassi, a veteran radio journalist working for a South-Asian radio network in Virginia, USA. As Amarjit approaches retirement, he envisions a peaceful life spent with his beloved grandson, Nirvair. However, his dreams of a quiet transition into retirement are abruptly disrupted by a series of dramatic events that force him to confront a past he had long tried to leave behind.

At its core, “The Full Circle” is a story about the inescapability of the past and the ways in which unresolved histories can ripple through generations. Amarjit’s life is deeply shaped by the events of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres in India, a traumatic period that forced him to flee his homeland, leaving behind everything he knew. Kohli deftly weaves together Amarjit’s personal narrative with the broader historical context, creating a rich tapestry of memory, loss, and the search for redemption.

The novel opens with Amarjit preparing to retire from his career as a radio journalist, a job that has been a source of both pride and pain for him. He plans to conclude his career with a final series of interviews that would serve as a capstone to his decades-long career. However, these plans are upended when a leading religious figure is assassinated, an event that sends shockwaves through the South-Asian community in Virginia. Shortly after, Nirvair, Amarjit’s grandson, suddenly disappears, setting off a frantic search that forces Amarjit to confront the ghosts of his past.

As Amarjit searches for Nirvair, the novel delves into his memories of his life in India, particularly the events leading up to and following the 1984 massacres. Kohli’s portrayal of this period is both sensitive and evocative, capturing the fear, confusion, and violence that defined the time. Amarjit’s childhood in Punjab is depicted as idyllic, filled with the warmth of family and the vibrancy of rural life. However, this happiness is shattered as he becomes entangled with Sikh revolutionaries, a decision that ultimately leads to his departure from India.

One of the novel’s strengths is its exploration of the psychological impact of trauma on both individuals and their families. Amarjit’s decision to leave India and never return is driven by a need to escape the memories of the violence he witnessed and the guilt he carries for his involvement with the revolutionaries. However, as the novel demonstrates, these memories cannot be easily escaped. They resurface in Amarjit’s nightmares, in his interactions with his family, and in the choices he makes in his career. His relationship with Nirvair is particularly affected, as Amarjit’s unresolved trauma seeps into their bond, creating a distance between them that neither fully understands until the events of the novel force them to confront it.

Kohli’s writing shines in her depiction of the relationship between Amarjit and Nirvair. Their bond is central to the novel, and it is through their interactions that the themes of memory, guilt, and redemption are most powerfully explored. Nirvair, though young, carries his own burdens, and it is only through their shared journey back to India that grandfather and grandson are able to begin the process of healing. The emotional depth of their relationship is portrayed with nuance and sensitivity, making their eventual reconciliation both moving and believable.

The journey back to India serves as the novel’s emotional climax, as Amarjit is forced to confront the life he left behind. The return to his homeland is fraught with tension, as memories of the past flood back with every step he takes. Kohli’s descriptions of India are vivid and evocative, capturing both the beauty and the pain of a land that has been deeply scarred by its history. As Amarjit revisits the places of his youth, he is confronted by the ghosts of those he lost, the friends and family who were taken by the violence of 1984. These scenes are some of the most powerful in the novel, as they force Amarjit to finally face the trauma he has long tried to bury.

The novel’s conclusion is both satisfying and bittersweet. Amarjit and Nirvair, having confronted their pasts, are able to find a measure of peace and closure. Their journey has strengthened their bond, allowing them to move forward with a deeper understanding of themselves and each other. However, the scars of the past remain, a reminder that some wounds, while healed, never fully disappear.

“The Full Circle” is a beautifully written novel that explores the complexities of memory, trauma, and redemption. Tanika Kohli has crafted a story that is both deeply personal and broadly resonant, capturing the ways in which history can shape and define our lives. Through the character of Amarjit Singh Bassi, Kohli offers a powerful exploration of the immigrant experience, the lingering effects of trauma, and the possibility of healing. The novel is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of love and family.

For readers interested in stories that delve into the intersections of personal and historical narratives, “The Full Circle” offers a compelling and emotionally resonant experience. It is a novel that lingers in the mind long after the final page is turned, a testament to Kohli’s skill as a storyteller and her deep understanding of the human condition.

🍀Book - Full Circle
🍀Author- Tanika Kohli

🍀Amarjeet Singh Bassi, a journalist by profession, plans to retire and spend his time with his grandson Nirvair. However, before that, he wants to complete his last series of interesting interviews. But God has other plans. Just before his series of interviews, he learns about the assassination of a religious leader, and the situation worsens when he is informed about the disappearance of his grandson. This news shocks Amarjeet, as he cannot understand the reason behind his grandson's disappearance.
With the search for Nirvair, Amarjeet’s past life in India also comes back to light. His involvement with revolutionaries in India and his decision to leave India with a promise to never return shocks everyone. Amarjeet starts blaming himself for his grandson’s disappearance.
Is it for ransom, or is it because of Amarjeet’s past?

🍀 Review- The book "Full Circle," as the name suggests, completes a full life circle. Amarjeet, who left India ,moves back to India with his grandson, completing the circle of life. The heart-touching story, which I personally feel many will relate to, is a perfect tale of love, courage, compassion, and honesty.

When you start reading the book, there are many instances where you can predict the next scene, but even then, the author maintains the pace and curiosity of the reader. Written in simple language and with a crisp storyline, it’s a must-pick for beginners.
The best part is the message given by the author: life completes the full circle here only.

It's worth investing time.. Grab ur copies

This elegant double helix of a novel entwines the stories of a fictional modern-day USA based Man and a real-life complex issues that arises sometimes. A more conventional book might have explored the ways the past and present mirror each other, but this novel is after something much more radical. It's a passionate, dialectical critique of the binaries that define and confine us. — sardar Amarjit Singh Bassi was happily settled with his wife Teji. Owning his own house, his successful career and job along with his loving grandson and family. The story starts beautifully detailing big small moments of our lead, slowly the intensity increases with a news of his life in the hitlist. All of a sudden he realises that his grandson ‘Nirvair is missing. Gradually the readers get to visualise the flashback of Amarjit's past. The title of the novel hints towards the content within. The story has more to offer, did they find Nirvair? Who was behind this act to further Amarjit's decisions in life. I loved the ending entirely, the beauty of the divine and sikh culture made me feel closer to my roots.

Started this book a few days ago and finished it within a day. The story is basically about Amarjeet Singh, a journalist who decided to retire to live the rest of his retirement life with Nirvair, his grandson but due to unknown circumstances his grandson goes missing while Amarjeet was working on his last project. From his grandson’s disappearance to his past life, the writer dives deep into the character of Amarjeet Singh.

Firstly, the cover, it's so pretty, basically the hand held by the grandfather and his grandson, the sea the sky, everything is related to this book.
Coming to the writing style, the writing style is something I loved about this book, the writer has written the book with all dedication and you could feel that while reading this book. The suspense was a bit predictable but engaging at the same time. Also the story wasn't too fast paced or slow, it felt like the story was happening in front of me, as if I was present there and that's definitely a win for the writer. I enjoyed every bit of this book and it's definitely a good read.

The writing is beautiful, but it's not just about the words on the page - it's about the way the story makes you feel. It's like a warm hug on a cold day, a comforting presence that stays with you long after you finish reading🍃

I loved how the author explored the complexities of identity, community, and family. It's a powerful reminder that our experiences shape us, but they don't define us. Amarjit's journey is a testament to the human spirit's ability to persevere, to heal, and to love.

It's a reminder that stories have the power to connect us, to heal us, and to make us feel seen and heard🤍

"Don't judge a book by its cover' - this line is so true for this book. I thought it would be a story about a child and family connections, maybe deep emotional bonding or some sort of traumatic event. But no, I was so wrong. This tale is about a man on the verge of retirement, planning to spend quality time with his grandson. However, a sudden mysterious event changes his life. An incident he never imagined would happen, but it seems like destiny had other plans. So, at the moment of wrapping up his work, he starts afresh to solve the mystery.

I want to thank the author for choosing such a unique story and narrating it with utmost efficiency. The emotional impact, love, bonding, uneasiness, and tension - everything was on point.

The demons of your past can be quite traumatising and when they try to strike you again, all you have to do is to set things straight.

This is the story of Amarjit Singh Bassi and his grandson Nirvair. Amarjit Singh is quite a talented journalist and has eagerly waited for his retirement to spend some time with his beloved grandson. But, an event in the past that he had long forgotten comes back encircling his grandson, his most beloved person. It's time to protect his grandson from the grave danger he is in and set things right which were destroyed in the past.

I found the narrative of this book quite riveting and it was such a great read. Would definitely recommend this to my fellow readers.
