"High Value Target" by Michael T. Evanoff is an actual 'page turner.'
The author is an actual former diplomatic security officer with real world experience. His alter ego, Zach Turner, a State Department Regional Security Officer (RSO) is a very believable character. This realistic novel, set in Islamabad, literally starts off with a bang. In addition to the challenges tracking down and defeating the terrorist bombers outside the Embassy walls, the author describes - with great humor and insight - the inter-agency battles inside a US Embassy. He describes the CIA staff inside any US Embassy, who try to hide their true identity even from other Americans on the Embassy staff. But he (Evanoff/Turner) could tell "from the way they spoke to each other and others that they were CIA." This reviewer - as someone who has been posted to US Embassies in the past - found these insights to be authentic.

Mike has written an engaging and authentic story that keeps your attention to the end. His personal experience and relationships make it all the better. I am looking forward to reading the next Zach Turner novel.

This was a fantastic book by an author who has really been there and done that. Michael Evanoff is a decorated hero who gave his entire career to serving his country in the Diplomatic Security Service. This book is a fictionalized account of his time in the Global War on Terror. Very well done.
