The Silent Note

Rate this book
This cruel king won’t stop until he marries me.

Zane Cross is a rule breaker.
A monster with pretty blue eyes.
A beast who feeds on the forbidden.
And we absolutely cannot be together.
Even if his dad and my mom weren’t married…
Even if he wasn’t my student…
Even if someone didn’t want me dead…
But the more I try to push him away, the more he binds us together.
With a ring.
With a promise.
With a kiss.
Now, I’m tied to him in ways that can never be unravelled.
But with my career at stake and secrets bursting at the seams, pleasure and lust will be my poison.
And when more and more bodies are found inside the hollowed halls of Redwood, the world finding out that I married Zane Cross will only be the beginning of chaos.

What was that ending ? Omg

We didn’t even get a proper ending for Grey and Zane. I had to read the alternate ending 🙄 at least the next book is about Finn.

Disappointing.
Marriage between stepsiblings? Gross. Of all the available 'tropes' in the world, why would someone write romance between step/foster siblings? I understand they're not blood related but it's still disgusting. It's the same thing as stepfather x step daughter which is again, disgusting. And no, this isn't a taboo romance (which shouldn't even be a thing imo). Ik everyone reads for fun and all but someone has to draw the line somewhere. If ppl start reading/writing such stuff frequently, their brain is obviously gonna start to normalise things like that in reality too.

Coming to the book, I only picked it up bcs I wanted closure to Zane's story. This is not an interconnected standalone series but a series where the plot flows throughout the books. I read the first 4 books last year and lemme tell you that I'm not joking when I say I finished the first 3 books, which was Cadence and Dutch's story, in just one day. That's how hooked I WAS. But the author has been very inactive and I sort of made my peace with that and made up a happy ending for Zane in my head. I randomly stumbled upon this book and picked it up only to wish I never did in the first place. I lost interest in the plot and it seems very overdramatic for no specific reason. I'm going to pretend it's a trilogy bcs I absolutely loved Dutch and Cadence's story and I'm gonna act like Book 4 and 5 don't exist. I dunno if I want to read Finn's story either bcs I don't want to lose my love for the first 3 books.

What the hell did I expect but a cliffhanger.

I’m not reading the sixth book.

I’m so beyond fucking bored and annoyed that I’ve wasted my life on FIVE BOOKS.

This’s could have been two books. Do not recommend.

Absolutely weak as hell storyline, terrible dialogue and plots that end up going nowhere

What a waste

Spice is shit too

I didn't find this one as good the revelation with Finn was really left field. I feel like Sols story needs to be told soon as he is seeming like a crazy villain gut Grey and Zanes chemistry is there I just wish the age gap wasn't so focused on

I have no freaking idea how I missed this book while reading the series, I had no idea this was even out yet😭😭

anyway, this was a lot better than the first Zane book. I like this one's plot a lot more than the other's and omg, the plot twist at the end?? MISS ALARCON, YOU BETTER RELEASE FINN'S BOOK ASAP. I genuinely won't find peace until I know what's gonna happen next and who Jinx is.

I still don't agree with Zane and Grey's relationship but I feel like I didn't mind it as much as I did the first time. however, what her mom did was truly unforgivable, she must be craaaazy like, babe that Jarod guy fucked with your head so bad that you started to not believe your OWN DAUGHTER??? pfft, like she cares about her... GIRL TAKE A FUCKING LOOK AT YOURSELF! geez

again, I can't wait for Finn's book, he is literally so SO AHSHSJSHHSHSH😋

My heart is utterly shattered. Joy, anxiety, dizziness and excitement. All feelings all at once. How in the hell am i gonna wait for the next book after THAT CLIFFHANGER, OMGGGG! "The Silent Note" is the fifth instalment in the "Redwood Kings" series by Nelia Alarcon. The Redwood Kings are in mention the three brothers Cross who dominate the Elite Academy Redwood High. They are also famous rockstars.. We have Dutch Cross the coldblooded leader, Zane Cross the wild man-whore and Finn Cross the silent monster. All three of them are untamed, tortured and raging beasts about to be consumed by the darkness in their souls, well that is, until they find the love of their lives.

In "The Forbidden Note" we see Zane Cross finally submitting to his heart. The owner of his heart, his very stubborn step-sister and teacher Grey Jamieson. In "The Silent Note" he finally drags her to the altar and marries her, exactly as he promised/threatened he would do, (Ahhh these Cross brothers always going through with these crazy promises/threats,sooo hawtttt) Zane Cross for all his past man-whoring crazy and unstable antics from the past, was so steadfast when it came to his commitment to Grey. He was so smitten. So possessive. So protective. So seductive. So sweet. So darn devoted. And so much in love that it broke my heart to pieces every time Grey pushed him away. He would do EVERYTHING for her to be alive and safe, even if it meant shattering her heart. Grey Jamieson was the missing piece of their crew that consists of The Cross Brothers, Dutch wife Cadence and the fire-maniac Sol. She was the head of reason in their every scheme and plans together, she stopped at nothing in trying to solve the mysterious murder of her bestfriend from six years ago. Zane was her ally in every way, i was so glad when Grey finally realized that she can`t live without him, the scene where she told him out of nowhere that he is handsome, and Zane FREEKIN BLUSHED!!BLUSHED!!!!Our cocky sexy world famous drummer Zane Cross blushing, omg i can`ttttt!!!

***

Fingertips grazing down to the waist of my pants and slipping inside, he whispers, “Don’t you get it yet? I exist for you, Grey. I breathe for you. Everything I am and everything I will be is yours.”

“I didn’t ask for that.”

“No, you didn’t. And still, I’ll give you everything.”

-Zane Cross & Grey

***

Finn Cross with his asian looks, deadly allure and badass ninja skills makes me go all gooey inside. HE IS SO DARK, MYSTERIOUS AND TORTURED AND A SECRET GETS REVEALED THAT BLEW MY MIND AWAY!I am saying this again!!!Jinx is Serena!!! Am i the only one thinking that, COME ON!!In author`s own words, next we will get Finn Cross epic romance story, and it better be with Jinx who is Serena!!!Pleaseeee let my theory be right!!!

This book was amazing and awesome like finishing this book was so sad for me bc I got so so attached to these characters and I know it’s not over yet bc we still have Finn’s story to read and explore next but I feel the same of what I felt when we changed from personally my favourite couple Candey and Dutch to Zane and Grey so it’s a weird feeling but this book wass so good because the found family was so good and especially amazing after getting into the grateful project investigation. With all the side plots we got in the book I really felt like this book was a little better the the 4th book. Plus we got to see and learn A LOT about Finn so I’m so excited for what’s next. But Dutch and Candey my loves forever the way they are with each other in this book was so cute like I’m so happy to see them in such a mature relationship and loving like they are so perfect for each other plus Dutch acting like a dad to Vi so so so cute. And of course if it wasn’t for him being the wise one for the group which is kinda funny to say after every thing in his books but yeah he really kept everyone alive at this pt. Like he’s SERIOUSLY REALLY SMART and talking about smart Finn is so smart like him and jinx teaming up to take down every one on that grateful project list was crazyyyy and Finn being the son of the big boss for the Japanese mafia like what that is crazy and him taking over the business with the crew to take down the grateful project. And let’s not forget before all this was revealed bc all that was the ending that Jarod cross was kinda helping them get into the nursing home to steal the grandma for the guy in prison to protect her in exchange for information but before they got to talk with him after the stealing a grandma, he got killed same thing with Harris the vice president for the school of something. AND LETS NOT FORGET Grey hallucinating her dead bestie the whole book after that car accident at the end of book 4 and like I love Sloane okay but something and most for the book I was scared of her and her intentions bc like she was kinda driving grey mad but anyways I’m happy she at peace know after chapter 54 like that chapter was so important. Now let’s talk Grey and Zane bc the book starts with them getting married at the hospital and of course the marriage is for the grateful project research but the more and more they grow to fall in love well Zane is loud and proud for loving Grey but Grey of course is not and is ignorant of her emotion for him bc she is his teacher and step sister but the more and more the time goes the more time goes the banter comes alive and they are so perfect for each other and this so bittersweet to finally have them together and gosh their spicy banter is soo sooo GOODD I love it so so much. Like they act like a marry couple I love it. And of course I need to talk about Grey and Finn friendship bc in this book we really got to see this and I’m so happy to see that Finn has someone he got to be more open to bc with his brothers he didn’t really say much this book but the scene were Jarod wanted to only see with bio kids and grey and Finn talk to each other in the corridor really was so comforting bc that is friendship at this finest bc being there for a friend when things are hard goes a long way and he did the same after she and Zane "broke up" after he broke the evidence to protect her. And of course all the things with Grey mother like that women was so manipulative bc this complicated. BUT LET GO BACK TO JAROD like when he was ready to quit being minister just bc he wanted that evidence to be destroyed to protect Finn and the boys was crazy bc that was the first time he gave up and was on their side and I was so shocked by that bc for 4 book and most for this book he was plotting against them and literally making their life hell but now he’s mad after was they did at his election debat so he’s coming for revenge or something for sure and let’s not forget my favourite friendship of course Zane and Candey bc hello I love them so much and in this book we got again moments with them. And my new favourite duo Grey and Candy bc hello they were always together in the book like queens hello and them being pregnant at the same time I’m going to crying 🥲 I love this series so much but the end like wtf dude them getting kidnapped together like come on their pregnant like u can’t put them through that wtfff
And last thing Sol it book like I was scared for him most for the book like he went psycho on us this book but I guess he’s kinda normal now but he’s still psycho

OH MY GOD
This book broke me in all the best ways and I LOVED it

Nelia Alarcon is insanely talented. This entire series has had me hooked from the start to the end and I can't even complain about it.

Believe me when I say I was NOT ready for the cliffhanger at the end. i thought it was all just a surprise planned by the girls but boy, was I wrong.

Zane: He was amazing, so kind and gentle with Grey and he really truly loved her. I loved him even more in this book than the last one. Everything he did to support Grey, the way he helped her with Sloane's investigation, giving it his all. He was AMAZING

Grey: I have kind of mixed feelings about Grey. Mostly positive but I had some reservations. I loved her at the start and I really felt concerned about the way she dove so deep into the case that it became her entire world and the way she started seeing Sloane, and started neglecting everything except the investigation, it really made me scared every time her POV came on.

I really loved her for all her efforts for her friends, even years later. But I really didn't like how she neglected Zane. She herself said that if she had to choose between Sloane and Zane, it would always be Sloane and that really tore me up, because he loves her so much and will do anything for her, but for Grey, the investigation comes first and Zane comes second, even after all he's doing for her.

I just think that after all Zane's doing he deserves some more appreciation from her, that's all.

I hated how she continously pushed him away, like my baby Zane, I love you. You're loved. Please don't be sad.

That said, this book, this entire series really is a masterpiece and I loved every book and every character in this. Every single Dutch and Cadey interaction had me giggling and kicking my feet in the air. they're so cute. I love them. As Grey's mind Sloane once said, if those two weren't already together, I'd ship them.

I loved the entire crew, especially Finn because THAT MAN. I swear, he just keeps shocking me out of my socks, because every new little thing I learn about him, makes me wanna pick him up and squeeze all the organs out of him (in a good way ofc).
Atleast we're finally getting his book. Ngl, I'm kinda scared of the book, because the Finn in my mind is on such a high pedestal and I'm scared that he might not make it that high if that makes sense.
But knowing Nelia Alarcon, having read her books and loved every one of them, I'm fully trusting her. That woman is something else. How can she manage to deliver such greatness with every single one of her books.

I'm speculating about Finn's book. I'm like 100% sure he'll be matched up with Jinx, which just begs the question:

WHO THE HELL IS JINX???

I'm really leaning toward Serena, because come on, who else could it be? But at the same time, there was much less of Serena in this book than the previous ones, and the foreshadowing isn't foreshadowing yk. But she's still the most likely (and frankly, the ONLY) candidate.

I don't remember if we talked about Serena's grandmother in any of the previous books
I'm really sorry for Serena and I'm also so impressed and proud of her. If she really is Jinx, then that girl has more balls than she shows, and is clever enough to match Finn in all his scheming and brooding.

And if she's using her Jinx persona to earn some dollars for her mother, then Atta Girl. I'll cheer you through hell and back.

I'm really curious to see

I liked Sol too. I think we got a much closer look at him in this book and the way he's leaning towards dangerous tendencies. I really hope everything works out for him and he finds peace in something other than arson, and yk

Sol serves the crazy unhinged guy in the perfect balance with soeone who really loves and cares for his friends and I really want everything to turn out alrighht for him. Also,

I'm realy excited for his book as well, if he gets one, which I reallt think he will, because he is actually one of the redwood kings, but again, what do I know?

Overall, this entire series has been an amazing experience and I can't wait for more form Nelia Alarcon. I really, truly, physically Can't give any book in this series less than 4 stars, it's so good.

DID NOT FINISH

I started this book back on January 29 of this year. I normally especially a book of the size finish within a week to give me some time, for everything that is holy I cannot finish this book. I’ve only gotten into page 200 and I was pushing myself to continue to read.

The storylines from this whole series just drags and drags.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

I have read all the books in this series so far n i'll say while the twists in these books have the potential of being huge, it really wasn't. Except for The Kings' bond, there were no other memorable bond n still the bond among the King members is not really alot.
So if i was to give this series a overall rating, it will be 5 stars.

3.5 stars, the ending was insane jinx you better redeem yourself in your book. There was so much going on in the book I was confused for most of it. Some parts in the middle really dragged on but I’m glad that I have caught up, I am now ready for the next book!

Ok so it had been a while since I read the forbidden note, so I wasnt really sure what to expect in this book.

*********************** SPOILERS*********************************************

Best to say at the beginnin Grey's and Zane's wedding kinda pissed me off cuz it felt more like a marriage of conveniance (there was no need for them to rush being married). Whilst we are still mentioning the negatives, I also want to talk about how at some times some scenes were just being dragged for no reason like this book definately could have been shorter. Let's not forget about Grey's mom constantly blaming Zane for their relationship when Grey is 6 years older than him and his teacher. Like at times it really felt like it was the other way round especially the way Grey acted at times. And the pregnancy at the end??? So the whole time they werent using protection but then Grey she isnt ready and she wasnt expecting this????? Like wtf???? I really liked Zane's character though, definitely an upgrade from the previous books like he was actually trying and unlike Grey wasnt denying his feelings and acting childish the whole time. Also (grey bashing incoming) Gre, stopping her job and basically becoming jobless just to sit around and wait whilst 18 years olds is finishing high school and performing gigs to fee her??!!! Anyways the book in itself was good and interesting however some of the characters and actions are really weird. Also, Grey and Cadence going out without security when we all know they had ppl wanting to capture them and stuff. Also finn knew basically everything but kept it to himself cuz he had to carry on acting mysterious???!!! (be fcking fr).
It was a nice read but wasnt the best. And glad that their romance wasnt 100 books long
