Meh. I think I read the wrong blurb. This was a really typical paranormal RH.

The story is fine but the entire book is in desperate need of editing. A lot of editing. If there had been an ounce of editing, it would easily be a 3⭐️ book.

“you do not bow to the whims of man, when you have gods worshipping at your feet.”

★★★★★/5

Writing: The writing style of the author is so captivating that you won't even realise that you have read the whole book in one sitting. I feel like I've found my new favourite author, the way the author has described everything so well I could imagine everything and see it play it out in my mind and for me that's what makes a book enjoyable.

Amri : Gods I love amri so much, she is one my favourite characters ever, the way she is so understanding and supports everyone is nice. Watching her overcome her fears and trauma and fight back, to fight for herself was such an emotional moment, Amri has already suffered so much in her life and she deserves everything and more and knowing that she has 4 guys who would die and kill for her is satisfactory.

Vincent : I really don't know how I feel about him after the big reveal, while I understand his reasonings I still think Amri deserved to know them since his plans involved her. I also hope we get to see more of him and understand his character better the way we got to see the others, in the next book in the trilogy.

Zain : Our baby Zain deserves all the love in this world and so much more. Watching him from not wanting Amri in the mate group to being absolutely in love with her was so wholesome. Zain is the character that would sacrifice everything for the people he loves and not say a word about it.

Damion: Damion is the type of character we didn't know we needed until we get it. He has sacrificed so much for the people he loves still continues to do so. Watching him choose between the one person he has shared everything with and the person he loves was torture. Our boy keep making sacrifices and still keeps being the sweetest.

Callyx : Can I get a Callyx for myself? pretty please? He would literally burn the whole world down for the people he loves without any regret, I love the way he gives everyone a way to let go of their control and how everyone feels safe doing so. I am absolutely crazily in love with this character and no one can change my mind.

Overall : I loved this book so much and I'm already dying to know what happens next, JA Welch had done an outstanding job with this novel and I can definitely say that I'll be reading more from her.

I'm not okay. At all. I'm so invested in these characters that I can not stand myself right now!!!

First off, I am poly, and so poly representation in novels is a guilty pleasure of mine. Accurate? Nah, not really. If only it was this hot! But we can't all get railed by sexy nurses, mental patients, and grim reapers now, can we?!

I loved the setting and characters. The romance is impractical but hot, and that's enough for me. I'm a sucker for books set in aslyms, and the paranormal aspect of the romance is quite enjoyable. I haven't read too much paranormal romance, but this definitely has me wanting more from the trope!

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Look I’m trying to get back into my reverse harem era but I fear I’ve read all the good ones. This book was… different. Some parts I liked, some part I didn’t. I wanted to dnf it 60% of the way in but I dragged myself to finish it because I was so close to being done. It was a short book. So the reason why I was like I need to finish this book was because they said let’s have a girl who was SA by her father call another character daddy. Make it make sense. And what I hate even more is how rushed it felt. It took fast burn to a whole other level. I was like why we going so fucking fast. Suddenly damion was with the other people in the harem (don’t get me wrong I love when boyfriends are also boyfriends) but like a man who has never been with a man or shown interest in a man is suddenly a page later going for it without any development or thought process? Like the author has been doing changing povs I think we could’ve developed some more things here. Or like how suddenly callyx is being kept hidden behind a spell but like I thought Amri broke the spell? Also what was the point of having her ex fiancé Timothy show up and yell. Like I think there was other ways to have damion get thrown in jail. I was also uncomfortable throughout the whole thing with the power play between a nurse and a patient. It is not consensual no matter how much amri screams about this being her mate. Mans took advantage of you in a vulnerable state no matter how you frame it. Despite the throwing around Willy nilly I love yous, everyone constantly getting sexually assaulted, surprise daddy kink, and the spouts of unnecessary drama, I still want to know what the fuck is going on. Will I read book two? No. Will I look and see if it’s spoiled? Yes. —— ope book two is NOT out yet

Also yes, I did read the trigger warnings. Where was the daddy kink mentioned??? Where was the multiple graphic displays of sexual assault mentioned??? Like yes they said SA but there was an excessive amount! Like come on.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This book was so good! I can’t get over how I fully DEVOURED this book! Start to finish was less then 24hours. This was a 5 star read book for me, if I could have given it a 6 star rating I would have. The storyline was great, such personal growth for the FMM and detail in the book it was so easy to imagine what everything looked like. The spice in this book was a solid 4 chilli pepper! The love, chaos and treachery in this book was the best combination and I fully recommend it. Please make sure you read the trigger warnings before reading though, it is a dark grim reaper romance…and it is dark, in all the best ways  ;)

The chokehold this book has on me is unreal. I just recently started getting into paranormal type books and this one was phenomenal. The building up of these characters and the plot was sooo good and I can’t wait to see more of them in the underworld. I fell in love with every single character in this book in no time at all. Amri became such a strong FMC and I was here for every bit of it. I also really liked how much Vincent, Callyx, Zain, and Damion all loved Amri so fiercely! Please check TW before reading , but if you love a good Grim reaper romance then I suggest you Run to read this!!!

Absolutely captivating! I couldn't put it down. This paranormal dark romance was fantastic. I loved the dynamic between Amri, Vincent, Zain, Callyx, and Damion—they made the perfect group. The story was incredibly engaging, and I'm eagerly anticipating the continuation. The magical and paranormal elements were well-executed. Waiting for the next book is going to be tough!

This is my first paranormal romance and it did not disappoint. From beginning to end, I was addicted to each character's perspective and spending time in their head. What an unforgiving place it was in both the best and worst ways. Submersing myself into Amri's battle with depression, Zain and Callyx's confidence and comfort with having multi-personality disorder, Damion's steadfast love for Amri fostering his acceptance for the things he doesn't understand, and Vincent's ability to adapt to all changes to build a union between all of them as mates full of love, loyalty, and protection had me in awe throughout the entire book. As if having an incredible plot wasn't enough, the sex scenes were mouthwatering regardless of if it was two, three, four or all five of them together. I am already desperately and impatiently waiting to find out where JA Welch will take us in the second book.
As a general rule, every species on Earth is afraid of death - in one way or another.

But what about those who aren't afraid? Those who lean over the edge of the cliff just to get a better view. Those who think about the blood spilling from their veins and instead of being frozen from fear, they smile in relief.

I'm not afraid of death. Instead, I welcome it. As I jump from this bridge into freezing cold, deep, black water - I am not afraid. I smile. I welcome the release that death will bring me. Release from all the pain and suffering that comes with a beating heart.

I'm no stranger to death, and I know he will welcome me with open arms.

"Because that's what you are. The moment I felt your soul, the first moment you thought of death all those months ago, I knew I would have you. I knew you were meant to be mine."

"Just so you know, if I had a heart, you would own it. I do have a soul, though, and it's already all yours. Every dark, black shard of it. It takes strength, though, to own a Reaper's soul. Find your strength, siren, and I'll be there to collect what is owed to me.

"Would you believe me if I told you the Grim Reaper saved me?"

Blood makes me happy. Causing pain makes me happy. What most people don't realize is that pain only heightens pleasure. When the two are combined, wonderous things happen.

My head snaps to the side, and my hand shoots up to rub my jaw in surprise. The fucker actually hit me. I laugh again. Perfect. He just made this fun.

"Going to kill me over a girl you just fucking met?" He screams. "Well, sorry for your luck, but she's mine." His words make me laugh, blood spurting out of my mouth and dripping down my chin.

"You do deserve love. You deserve to be loved and feel loved. We'll make sure you do, all of us."

He reaches out and runs his fingers over the scars on my wrist. "If you ever, ever do something to harm yourself ever again, you'll have me to answer to."

"Do you want me to kill your father for you?"

"What does matter, little siren, is that you one day say those same words to me - and mean them. That even if he doesn't agree to be our mate, you realize you have three others who would rip their own hearts out, who would burn the world to the ground just to hear those three little words you spoke to a man who is rejecting you. So, hear this, little siren, you do not bow to the whims of man, when you have gods worshipping at your feet.

I lift my hand up with the knife in it and look down at Amri. Her eyes are wide as she watches me, but the hint of a smile graces her lips. That's my girl.

"This right here is what makes it so hard to love humanity. They're willingness to bypass what's right for greed."

"A closer look reveals what she used to take her life. A pen. A fucking pen. I can't help but chuckle. Of course, my wild, untamable mate, would use a fucking pen.

I was hooked right from the start. Amri is a broken yet relatable character.Lots of twists and turns in the plot. I loved the banter and how quickly they just claim Amri. Political intrigue, magic, instalove, compromise, learning and growing. Spicy!!

This is a medium burn but when all four of them get together. You’re gonna need to take a cold shower.

Damion is sweet and gentle, knowing he is crossing a line with his job and morals, but Amri is a force he cannot deny.

Zain/Callyx, two souls sharing one body. Zain is resourceful and quick witted.
Callyx is strong, domineering and violent.

Vincent/Grimm is powerful, bold, sexy and oozes control.

Who wouldn’t want to be called: siren, bunny, kitten and angel!

Amri has always had a rough life. Then she started seeing Vincent in her dreams, coming to her as a reaper. Of course she is completely drawn to him and decides thr only way she can be with him is to end her life.

But Vincent saves her and she ends up in Melford Mental Institution. Here she meets Zain/Callyx and Damion. Her and Vincent’s mates. Zain/Callyx already have a relationship with Vincent and Damion is a guard at MMI assigned them and Amri. They develop a beautiful yet complicated relationship between the four of them but they all love each other and just want to be together.

Forces are aligning g to ensure that Vincent doesn’t complete the bond and cause harm to his mates.

I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. We left on a cliffhanger and I need to know!!!!

This book!!! It was an absolute banger for me, I enjoyed it so much that I ended up rereading it, kind of hoping more words would appear as I did not want it to come to an end.

The author's ability and understanding of mental health and suicide made this story relatable, especially for persons like me who live with the daily reminders of doubt and uncertainty when it comes to depression.

The storyline does not lean towards society's stereotypical stigma of downplaying issues. Rather, it embraces it. Past trauma, abuse, and some of the triggers is something the majority of people drag around with them on a daily basis, but J.A. Welch made it light enough not to turn into a sombre story.

The love interests in this book, O MY WORD! a girl can only wish that she gets this lucky!

O my word, the banter is fantastic between the characters.

The plot twist is mind-numbing, I did not see that coming.

And then cliffhanger, o cliffhanger what did you do to my mind, how am I going to survive until I know what happens 😉

A dark paranormal why choose romance, this book has been an absolute rollercoaster but in the way that keeps you captivated. I couldn't put this story down, and devoured it within two days, the trigger warnings are definitely there to help protect your mental health so definitely take a moment to read them before stepping Into this story.

I don't want to give away a lot but I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from this book.

" But what about those who aren't afraid? those who lean over the edge of the cliff just to get a better view . Those who think about the blood spilling from their veins and instead of being frozen with fear , they smile in relief."

"You Do Not Bow To The Whims Of Man, When You Have Gods Worshipping At Your Feet"

I Absolutely Adored Callyx , Zain , Damion & my feelings for Vincent are a bit of a confusing mess after the big reveal .

I loved Amri as well ❤️‍🩹

This book is not easy for me to review.
So I will make an abit different review, then what I normaly do.
And i will give it 4 stars, but I am closer to a 3,5.
Its a new author to me. New series. New alot of things.
And i must say. I almost dnf'ed this book.
There were some issues for me in the beginning. Some not so nice qualitys with one of the H in the story, some sides of this guy that I really didnt like. But I just wasnt sure if its a culture thing, me thing, or a really bad side of some peoples personality. I still dont know for sure.
And it blinded me to the full story, because there is some good quality to the story. I really like the plot. I really like the buildup, and I really liked the cliffhanger at the end.
The crazy drama around the institution was fantastic. And I loved our Reaper. He made me keep reading. And I am happy i stayed till the end. Because I ended up loving the last part.

Their opposites in every way possible. Zain I sweet and so nice you can’t help but like him, Callyx is like the wild card, very unpredictable and violent, very brave and very fucking sassy. I love him to death.

I loved this book and devoured it so quickly. I have a few issues with the story though, like being in a mental institution and having a relationship with patients? I get it’s just a story but I doubt any patient in a psychiatric facility would get anywhere near the freedom that Amri and her mates do. Like training Amir in the courtyard? Doubt that would ever happen in real life. My only other issue is the spelling errors, small book or not whoever does the proofreading for these books sucks, if they do it at all. While this book isn’t loaded with spicy scenes we do get a juicy little fivesome, if it can be called that? It’s confusing having two souls in one body. That chapter right there is so fucking good, we get lots of MM and MMFMM. So yummy. Loved this book and can’t wait to read the second one in February.

🖤BOOK REVIEW🖤

book: Glass & Grim

author: J. A. Welch
rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
length: 304 pages
genre: Paranormal Romance, Dark Romance.

triggers: included but not limited to: s*xual situations, m*rder, SA (not by MC), misc@rriage, dub-con, patient/nurse, BD3M, bl00d pl@y, kn1fe play, self exit, self h@rm, attempted self exit, child SA, mental illness

tropes: MMFMM, nurse/patient, sword crossing, bi awakenings, shadow daddy, secret magic

summary: Amri Glass is crazy.
Right?
She has to be. She's in love with a man she's only ever seen in her dreams, who just so happen to be the Grim Reaper. Only, when she finally tries to go to him, he saves her. Sends her back.
Now, she's got a hottie nurse, a k1ller(or maybe two?), AND the Reaper after her affections.
If Amri thought her life was crazy before, it's nothing compared to her new reality at the Melford Mental Institution.
However, it seems D3ath isn't the only one out to get Amri.

overall: i hope my summary convinced you to dead this book because it's literally amazing. there are a few (small) grammatical errors. (if there were more than five i would tell you because i am incapable of reading books that clearly haven't been edited). the tension and world building is amazing. the story line has lots of twists, some i don't expect. it ends in a cliffhanger with the second book set to release February 25th, 2025. read. this. book.

have you read this book? if so, what were your thoughts?!

J.A. Welch’s Glass & Grim is book one of The Last Words Trilogy and my first by this author. As I mentioned in an earlier review this month, I am a huge fan of asylums, mental health reps, and treatment facilities. I was very excited to jump into this dark paranormal romance!

I was thoroughly impressed by this author’s writing style and the way she was about to reel me in. I was genuinely captivated by how she described the characters and the world they lived in in detail. The twists and turns had me tearing through the pages.

Although damaged and broken, Amri was relatable, and I was drawn to her. Having vivid dreams of someone, she realizes the only way they can be together is to end her life. This leads her to be placed in a mental institution, where she meets the other main characters and develops a relationship with all of them. It’s complicated and beautiful at the same time. I don’t want to give away the plot! It had me in a beautiful chokehold. The spice was fantastic without stealing the show. The book ended on a cliffhanger, leaving me greedily wanting book two NOW.

Thank you to J.A. Welch for gifting me an eARC of Glass & Grim. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am so very glad I persisted past my initial DNF thoughts about this book. Let me explain, I was always taught that if a book couldn't gab your attention by 50 pages in to try another 50 and if it couldn't pull you in after 100 to put it down and walk away, that's what happened here, but it wasn't 50 nor the 100, it was 25 and I was so distraught because the premise was amazing....and I am so glad I pushed, because it was INCREDIBLE!!!!
The depth of each character and nuance, the development of the story and the stories within the story was enchanting and the spice wasn't throughout, when it did happen it was intense and sexy and had me reaching for ice cold water more often than not.

This story is beautiful and shows how multiple partners can enhance and bring so much more to a relationship. While non monogamy may not be for everyone, and much respect, this beautiful story gives you another view while still delving deep into the fantasy realm of the Grim Reaper and the Underworld hierarchy. Definitely a keeper.
Cannot wait till more, as I'll with be with bated breath for what happens next.

Amri, a resilient woman battling inner demons and dreamy encounters, embarks on a rollercoaster journey of love and self-discovery. Just when things get a bit weary, the mysterious dream man swoops in to save the day. As Amri's heart navigates through a whirlwind of emotions, she finds herself entangled in a web of affection with not one, not two, but three charming men. This gripping tale had me hooked, eagerly anticipating the next juicy twist. The character growth in Amri was truly remarkable, and the intense love from Vincent, Callyx, Zain, and Damion added a sprinkle of magic to the story. Love, drama, and secrets intertwined beautifully, making this a must-read!

Dark paranormal romance 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Spicy 🥵 🥵 🥵 🥵

Plot 4.5/5
Original, and definitely fresh ! I absolutely loved it. I would've liked to see one specific subplot I cannot go into more detail without spoilers and I don't do spoilers here lol

Writing quality& nonrepetitive 4/5
I found the writing quality AMAZING. I didn't find it to be immature - however the author's age did shine through a couple times but it was comforting because same generation as I am so I easily understood the context. However someone much younger or much older might have been a tad confused. In the end though I found the book very non repetitive.

Characters 5/5
We got a grim Reaper, a golden retriever, a dominant MAN, AND a masochistic DADDY. Like need I say more? The FMC is a sarcastic witty spitfire and I am PLEASED

Ending 5/5
THAT PLOT TWIST. No. THE MANY PLOT TWISTS. GAH. I need book 2 like yesterday. Loved the ending. However I am begging for more.

Backstory/world building 4.5/5
Only twice I didn't feel like I was picturing the space. Otherwise I felt like I was THERE. I am absolutely floored. My only regret was waiting so long to read this.

Kitten. Hellcat. Bunny. Siren. The words spoken most by Zain, Callyx, Damion, and Reaper. To them, Amri Glass is all of this and more of this. Coming from a harsh background for her character that struggles with mental illness, a cruel ex-fiancé, and a life that gave her a cruel hand in life. As her character develops further into this story, you feel the emotional up and down for not only her story, but that of the men who wish to put themselves into her life. This book does contain mm scenes, bleeding, mental illness triggers that should be taken into account, and mmmfm scenes along with abuse, BUT if you can get past those trigger warnings this story is genuinely alluring and compelling. I couldn’t stop reading and being shook by each chapter the further I dived in. It was spicy SPICY. Dark and Twisted, in the best way. And had a storyline that wouldn’t quit dragging me in. I can’t wait for the next one!

Sexy nurses man, mental patients, and grim reaper and a witch oh my what a hit explosive combo and in an asylum none the less.
Characters the plot building the imagery painted in your head all spot on. The ending oh the ending ugh a cliffhanger that leaves me dying for the next book

Armi: starts off broken, alone and ready to give up. She grows through out the book and takes back her power. She becomes strong and fierce a forced to be reckoned with.

Vincent aka the reaper: powerful, sexy, bold and a submissive in bed I didn’t see that coming…

Zain/Callyx: what a hot man they are two souls one body. Zane resourceful, reasonable, quick witted he deserves so much love. This man would sacrifice anything for the people he loved while
Callyx strong, violent, unhinged and domineering would burn the whole world down for them.

Damion: The normal one… he is sweet and gentle he will sacrifice anything and everything for love. But at what cost? Where do you draw the line?

Ok this was my first dark paranormal romance and WOW! Absolutely knocked it out of the park. I was instantly hooked! The details about characters and where they are, created such a vivid picture in my mind and it’s something I usually struggle with.

Welcome to Melfort Mental Institution where Amri meets three of her four fated mates and learns what it really means to love and be loved.

You can’t help but want to help Amri. From the first moment you meet her you can tell that she has struggled with more than she ever should have. She starts out beaten down and not wanting to fight or live anymore. Only to be rescued and placed in a mental institution.

Enter her nurse Damion.

Knowing that the way he feels about Amri isn’t morally right, he can’t help but have feelings for her. Having a constant pull towards her, Damion will stop at nothing to protect Amri.

While dealing with her mental health “issues” Amri is convinced that someone tried to save her from her own demise but can’t figure out how her saviour was never seen by anyone else.

Her Reaper is her saviour who vows to be with her once she gains her strength. After explaining what her commitment will mean, he’s convinced that Amri will be able to overcome her demons and become who she truly meant to be.

Zain & Callyx are the dark brothers Amri didn’t know she needed and the perfect balance to each other. Not even Damion could predict how their relationship and lives would change once they all became committed to each other.

I had to live for me, so I could die for love.

Glass & Grim is the first instalment of the Last Words Trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. I cannot wait for book #2 and 3!!

2.5 ⭐️ There were bits and pieces of this I really liked and would have loved to see more thought out, like the multiple personality disorder or even the relationship progression among all the main characters. It felt sped up. There was really no good explanation of why training Amri was SO critical, it was kind of a one liner and we just had to be like ‘oh okay, that explains everything.’ While I love Damion, I don’t know that his character really added to the harem but it didn’t hurt either - twas just random. And are we to assume some connection to Royce and Vincent’s dad or is there truly an outside third party of rich individuals causing chaos in the institution for personal gain. And the entire institution was okay with a nurse having relations with two patients…until they weren’t? A little too convenient. I could break an ankle with all the holes in this plot.

Mind-blowing!! 🤯🤯🤯

This was such a gut wrenching and thought provoking read.
I've read this three times and each time I've found something different to love.
Amri is just everything. The guys are everything too. The relationships and how they're written is just fantastic. Everyone can relate to someone in this story.
The story is urgh!!!! So good! I'm finding it difficult to put my thoughts into words because there's so much goodness to talk about but I don't want to spoil anything.
As always, check the author's content warnings. This is a dark read and not for everyone.

Watch that cliffy, it's a doozy.

imo it's a bit much on the MM, it seems like nobody actually chooses the Fmc first. Like Damion rejected the fmc at first and then he realized he wanted to be with her yet goes and slept with Callyx . it left a bad taste in my mouth. I want a why choose to be centered around the woman, especially when the woman has previous trauma. I also think it's moving way too fast I don't sense any love whatsoever only lust, yet they've all said I love you already? that's way too fast and just rushed for no reason. I'm gonna read the next book and hopefully the male leads will actually choose her over each other for once

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers, and it is a pretty intense book! The triggers are on the last page and there is literally a full page of them. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. The idea of falling in love with the Grim Reaper and his other lovers was a unique twist. There are a lot of plot twists and J.A. Welch keeps you guessing about who's involved and for what reason. It was a very well written book that I stayed up way too late reading one night only to find out I have to wait for book two. Hopefully it comes out soon.

What an amazing book this was! Wonderfully written! Great storyline! I loved it from beginning to end. It was very intriguing and captivating and I was on the edge of my seat many times throughout reading it. The spice was spicing, & the mystery mysterious. I knew something was up and wasn't wrong! Amri, Reaper/Vincent, Zain/Callyx, & Damion are perfect for one another! Once things start picking up the chemistry flies!

This book had me strapped to my seat for a good two hours. Such a good why choose reverse haram romance. I love reading paranormal romances but this one really keeps you interested in what happens next. The characters are relatable and lovable in their own ways. Amri and zains relationship had me sweating in some scenes. But thoroughly enjoyed the diversity between all of the characters personalities.

This book was such a quick, fun, easy read. I read it in two sittings. The writing style was easy to follow and captivating. I’m invested in these characters and cannot wait to see what happens. I love how Amri came into herself and became strong independent woman. She stood up for herself and protected herself. I loved that. The paranormal aspect wasn’t too out of this world. It was easy to follow.
