Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Charlotte Katakuri makes his entrance into the arc, fashionably late - probably the latest of all final arc bosses - and immediately turns things belly-up for everyone. He's a lot more competent than anyone else in the crew and won't let the main characters fool around as they did before. Would've been so much smoother sailing without him around.
Speaking of smooth sailing (or lack thereof), Unspoken Plan Guarantee comes to play on both sides of the fence. We know how things should go, and so of course that's exactly how they won't. Sanji isn't shocked at all by the third eye. Big Mom can blast away missiles and shatter mirrors with the sheer power of her haki. And Luffy's cake surprise would turn out to be a bad, bad idea... although I guess Luffy never planned anything in the first place, so he gets a pass.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Morgans turned out to be a parody of overeager fans. Everything's a big deal. Which I guess means that no one is?

Oda Sensei’s version of an ASOIAF-style wedding with One Piece-style antics and complexity is here. And in standard One Piece style it is a lot to take in. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing always as there was the usual entertainment (the various fights breaking out as the assassination attempt(s) go awry) and emotional roller coasters (Pudding getting caught off guard by Sanji’s sincere compliment of her eye, Sanji rescuing Reiju and his dicks of brothers & a father despite everything, etc.). The fighting retreat from Big Mom’s tea party it seems is just getting warmed up in the next volume.
Speaking of Big Mom, what a hell of a childhood that’s providing a crap ton of conflicting emotions? I can’t really tell if Oda Sensei wants us to feel bad for Big Mom for the loss of Mother Caramel (who like Mother Teresa she seems to have been inspired from is more of an unsavory character). Clearly Big Mom is a victim of no one knowing how/willing to strike a good balance between loving her and controlling her. Still something had to be done and the implication that Big Mom ate Caramel and her friends in her feeding frenzy is pretty screwed up (provided that’s what happened). Otherwise it was great to briefly see Elbaph in the flashback after ~70 volumes of buildup and having all the Easter Eggs to its Giants spread throughout the flashback.
Other moments of note: - I get he’s a comedic character but I’m really getting tired of Caesar Clown and wish Oda Sensei would resolve his plot or at least take a break from him for a long time. - Lol of course Luffy would ruin the diversion by revealing which Luffy clone is him. Absolutely epic that Jinbei has no fear of Big Mom as he declares himself for Luffy the future King of the Pirates. - NGL Bege’s line about everyone having an equal right to change the future is deep.
The war begins and they make their plans for the scene to happen at the wedding and they crash it, fights happen, Big Mom's backstory is revealed through a flashback and its quite okay and then the thing with the fights happen and they thought the plan would go well until it backfires. And then the stuff with Pudding happens and Germa 66 power up. Good volume and has lots of weird stuff building up stakes for whats to come in future cleary.

2025 reread : my baby Katakuri is HEEEEEERE!!! Is there anything else to talk about? Yes. The alliance with Bege, the plan to take down Big Mom... But all I wanna talk about it my boy **
Katakuri is here!!!! (Traffy is looking very betrayed somewhere on the Grand Line. Don't worry dude, I still love you) When I started reading this arc I wanted to binge it all at once because that was the first ttime I could do so. I kinda failed at binging but I feel like this is not necessarily a bad thing because I feel like I still appreciate the arc. This volume felt slightly slower than the previous ones I would say. There are some flashbacks that slowed down the pace a little bit. But I know from now on it's only action until the end of this arc so I don't mind the breather. And the introduction of Katakuri makes me more willing to forgive stuffs. Because I love him? In case that wasn't clear. He's great.
I have to admire Oda's capacity to manage this many characters at the same time, especially in massive fight scenes that are as plot-heavy as the tea-party... I have personally lost track of the "who" and the "what" of most new characters from this ark (except Sanji's family, those are easy: crap-dad, three dickhead-brothers and cool-sis)... Big Mom has way too many kids (seriously though, how many times has she been pregnant?) with too many titles (ministers? commanders? whatever) so if he starts throwing some big mafia bosses now, I have no choice but to give up trying to remember everyone... Anyway, the only thing that really matters is that my babies make it out alive, anything else is just bonus at this point.
Sanji's wedding continues and the plan is set into motion. Everything begins to go according to plan but when one unanticipated event happens it turns everything on it's head.
Overall a highly anticipated continuation to Sanji's wedding and the events that will unfold will make for a great next volume.
I received this advanced copy from VIZ Media through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.
Volume 86: Chapter 859-869 Saga 9: Whole Cake Island Arc 29: Whole Cake Island
Straw Hat Pirates and Fire Tank Pirates plan to kill Big Mom during the wedding. Big Mom will become vunerable when they break Mother Caramel's picture. Many well-known person arrived at the wedding: - "Big News" Morgan, President of the World Economic Journal - "God of Fortune" Du Feld, loan shark king - Stussy, Queen of the Pleasure District - Drug Peclo, major undertaker - Giberson the Hider, warehouse kingpin - "Deep-Sea Currents" Umit, shipping king - Jigra, organ dealer
The two Sweet 3 Generals are there including Charlotte Katakuri with a bounty of 1 billion 57 million Berry. Pudding cannot kill Sanji. Katakuri who can see a future start to attack Sanji but it gives a signal for the assassination team to start their plan. Luffy comes out from the weddding cake along with his doppelgangers.
Jinbe faced Big Mom and asked to quit Big Mom Pirates without a bit of fear. Brook managed to break Mother Caramel's picture. The whole event was in chaos and Big Mom was in confused state. Perospero lead the team to assassinate Vinsmoke Family. Sanji comes to help.
63 years ago, Big Mom's parent sent her to Elbaf, the land of the giants. There, she met Mother Caramel and other orphans. One day, she destroyed the Elbaf village due to hunger and she even beat one of the giants. Mother Caramel brought her and her foster siblings into other orphanage. One day, they celebrated Big Mom's birthday and suddenly her friends and Mother Caramel simply vanished. There are two witnesses of the tragedy; a giant and Streusen. Streusen then took care of Big Mom and they formed Big Mom Pirates.
The KX Launcher that used to kill Big Mom exploded midair by Big Mom's Conqueror's Haki. Caesar who responsible to prepare an escape route for the team jumped in but his mirror was broken also due to Big Mom's Conqueror's Haki. Germa 66 joined the battle. The assassination team was in dire state. They were surrounded by Big Mom Pirates with no where to escape.
First Trafalgar and now Capone Bege! These Worst-Gen Alliances are so much fun! I might be wrong, but I can see in my mind's eye that the next alliance of Straw Hat Pirates would be with Eustass Kid. If I'm on point then it could be their strongest alliance yet!!🤞
Sanji! You’re a better person than me. To save your family even tho they are the literal WORSE people in the world. Ugh. If people don’t agree that your backstory is literally in the top 5 saddest one piece backstories then I’ll fight them. Poor baby
ok bege like ok PLAN (doesnt work but the thought was there). ONCE AGAIN. sanjis kindness saving the day. just normal things for the GOAT. but big mom's backstory is always SOOOO interesting to me. like whether she ate them or not... still really reflects who she is now.
The greatest pirate wedding in the world is about to marry Sanji into the family of Big Mom, so Luffy and the crew have no choice but to seek out help from some untrustworthy allies! Oda delivers more humour and heart in this entry to the "One Piece" series. What sort of dastardly plan does Big Mom have for Sanji and the Vinsmokes?!
