Anders Nordic is a towering, Scandinavian-American hailing from the rugged expanses of Dakota Territory. Known for his solitary nature and unparalleled fighting and shooting skills, Nordic has always struggled to get along with others. As an adult, his preference for solitude has only intensified, leading him to a remote line shack where he lives in blissful isolation.
His uncompromising nature draws him into trouble when he ventures into the bustling, violent town of Cimarron in New Mexico Territory for supplies. When he intervenes to save a homeless collie dog, Finn, from a cruel boy—who happens to be the town banker’s son—the act of kindness triggers a deadly chain of events.
As the town deputy tries to have Nordic arrested, the attempt goes awry. A second, more forceful attempt results in a fatal showdown, with Nordic’s .44 ending the deputy’s life. This sets off a bloody conflict between Nordic and Finn against the forces of Reginald English and the father of the dead deputy.
But despite the escalating violence, Nordic never regrets saving Finn from heartless cruelty. With Finn by his side, he faces the oncoming hordes with steely resolve. Let them come, he thinks. Anders Nordic is ready for them all.

Fellow Western readers, Peter has been busy giving us a new series; here is book one.
Peter Brandvold, a prolific author in the Western genre, has graced the shelves once again with his latest offering, "Nordic & Finn." This novel marks the beginning of what promises to be an enthralling series steeped in the rugged traditions of the Old West. Brandvold, known for his fast-paced storytelling and authentic depictions of frontier life, does not disappoint with this new entry. "Nordic & Finn" introduces us to Anders Nordic, a solitary figure whose Scandinavian roots are as deep as the Dakota Territory he hails from. His life, a testament to the harsh and unforgiving nature of the land, is disrupted when a simple act of kindness—a defense of a homeless collie dog he named Finn—sparks a deadly sequence of events. The narrative weaves a tale of loyalty and survival as Nordic and Finn navigate the treacherous landscapes of both the wilderness and human deceit.
The story unfolds in the violent town of Cimarron in the New Mexico Territory, where Nordic's intervention on behalf of Finn pits him against the town's corrupt powerbrokers. Brandvold's writing shines as he portrays the escalating conflict, drawing readers into a world where justice is swift and mercy is scarce. The bond between man and dog is a central theme, highlighting the unwavering companionship that only a faithful canine can provide. Brandvold's "Nordic & Finn" is more than just a tale of the Wild West; it's a narrative that explores the depths of human character and the indomitable spirit of survival. The book promises to be a journey filled with danger, action, and the kind of heart-wrenching moments that leave a lasting impression. For fans of Westerns and newcomers alike, "Nordic & Finn" is a must-read that captures the essence of a genre that continues to captivate and thrill. As a fan of classic style Western novels and dogs, I immediately loved NORDIC & FINN. It’s the first novel in a new series by Peter Brandvold, a bestselling, award-winning author of Western novels who’s a regular writer for the popular Wolfpack Publishing imprint. I’ve enjoyed a number of Brandvold’s other books. But I especially enjoyed NORDIC & FINN. The central character is Anders Nordic, a loner who works for a female rancher. Nordic likes animals, but few people. He’s skilled with a gun and uses it without hesitation if threatened. When he sees a homeless collie dog being cruelly abused by some kids during a trip into town, he scares them away and, when confronted by a bigshot banker who’s the father of one of the kids, he punches the banker in the nose. Then he leaves town with the dog, who he names Finn. This leads to a bloody chain of events in which Nordic and Finn are forced to fight local lawmen and then a series of hired guns. They threaten not only him and Finn, but also the woman he works for and her beautiful young niece, Clara. During the course of the story, there’s lots of old-fashioned action and gunplay and a sweet romance between Nordic and Clara. But the real heart of the story is the bond between Nordic and Finn, who turns out to be a fearsome fighter himself. If you follow Brandvold on Facebook, as I do, you can’t help but notice how that bond seems to mirror Brandvold’s close relationship with his dog, Bud. As a fellow dog lover, that and Brandvold’s story about the relationship between Nordic and Finn, have made me an even bigger fan of his work. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next novel in this series.
My first experience with this author. A Western which is all action. You know there is no good ending here--just 34 (or more) deaths because some rich kid couldn't handle being told to quit tormenting a stray. Really shows how alliances and honor lead to a dark path.
Hero is superheroic in his abilities to travel for hours, deal with pain, and shoot in the dark. But really, Brandvold, how is Clara going to hold onto that ranch alone? Anders couldn't have gotten her some ranch hands before acting on his misanthropy / wanderlust?
Let's start with the "cowboy" vernacular, it is superior. I'm not an avid reader of westerns, but this book was filled with words even my Kindle dictionary didn't know. Now that's authentic! Story was fairly straightforward, but Mr. Brandvold writes in a way that not just holds your interest but has you excited to turn the page. He writes like Remington paints, with authenticity and action. I am excited to read the second book in this series. This book was truly a "classic."
Peter Brandvold is my favorite author, with that said I found this book different but very very enjoyable! Most of his books are fast passed and action packed I found this one different, yes there is action, but with the dog Finn it seemed to me a totally different kind of book than he normally writes and I absolutely loved it, I actually read it twice. Another great book by Peter Brandvold!!! Hoss
Brandvold writes with complexity that overcomes comprehension. An overabundance of run on sentences often still the reader's flow while attempts are made to figure out the author's intent. Good writing does not do that! This reader has the impression that Brandvold believes extensive description is the sign of mature writing. He should read writings by Dean Koontz and Stephen King to learn limits on extensive description and fractured sentence structure.
Brandvoid give us a great story of a Norwegian Mountain Man, Nordic, and his adopted dog, Finn. They patrol the cattle ranges for rustlers and reside in a rustic Shack far from civilization. But when trouble comes calling on the ranch’s widowed owner & her niece, Nordic protects the innocent and battles powerful cattlemen to a brutal end with vengeance. You’ll like the well developed characters, the pace and the ending.
I enjoyed the book a lot. Nordic is one really kick assed NASTY SOB. But, that is what happens when you cross him, try to hurt his dog, or mess with his girlfriend.
Not really sure what was missing, why I gave 4 stars and not 5. It will come to me eventually. Thank you for a good evening, I spent reading a very good story!
Brandvold outdid himself on this one. Maybe it is the dog, Finn. Nordic is a loner and always has been, so the job of being up in a line shack and keeping rustlers away from the cattle suits him just fine. He takes both the crookrd banker and the crooked rancher to the woodshed and the chase is on.
Mansion was a force of nature born and bred to overcome bad guys. He did not suffer fools or vicious criminals and served swift justice. I enjoyed these books and look forward to reading other books from Peter Brandvold.
I would recommend this book to anyone. You will enjoy this story if you're after a good Western yarn. It has all the makins. A good guy a lot of action with good reasons and plenty of bad guys. And a gitl.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to as many more in the series as possible. Very well written and great story. Lot's of action and meaning. I would seriously recommend this book to be read by anyone that likes a good Western.
Mr Brandvold, you have surpassed yourself. This was the "best" western I've read in my seventy six years. Keep up the great work. An avid fan from Salem Va.
I enjoyed reading this book, I enjoyed every Peter Brandvold Western I have read. He introduced me to a new character to read and I enjoyed reading it.
